Skewed quark distribution of the pion in the light-front quark model

We calculate the skewed quark distributions(SQDs) of the pion in the light-front quark model, and discuss the calculation of the nonvalence contribution to the SQDs in this model. The frame-independence of our model calculation is guaranteed by the constraint of the sum rule between the SQDs and form factor. Our numerical results show large nonvalence contributions to the SQDs at small momentum transfer region as the skewedness increases.

Exploring timelike exclusive processes in the light-front approach

We discuss a necessary nonvalence contribution in timelike exclusive processes. Utilizing a Schwinger-Dyson type of approach, we relate the nonvalence contribution to an ordinary light-front wave function that has been extensively tested in the spacelike exclusive processes. An application to $K_{\ell3}$ decays provides encouraging results.

Poincare Invariant Algebra From Instant to Light-Front Quantization

We present the Poincare algebra interpolating between instant and light-front time quantizations. The angular momentum operators satisfying SU(2) algebra are constructed in an arbitrary interpolation angle and shown to be identical to the ordinary angular momentum and Leutwyler-Stern angular momentum in the instant and light-front quantization limits, respectively. The exchange of the dynamical role between the transverse angular mometum and the boost operators is manifest in our newly constructed algebra.

Nonperturbative Vacuum Effect in the Quantum Field Theory of Meson Mixing

Replacing the perturbative vacuum by the nonperturbative vacuum, we extend a recent development of a quantum field theoretic framework for scalar and pseudoscalar meson mixing. The unitary inequivalence of the Fock space of base (unmixed) eigenstates and the physical mixed eigenstates is investigated and the flavor vacuum state structure is explicitly found. This is exploited to develop formulas for two flavor boson oscillations in systems of arbitrary boson occupation number. We apply these formulas to analyze the mixing of eta with eta' and comment on the other meson-mixing systems. In addition, we consider the mixing of boson coherent states, which may have future applications in the construction of meson lasers.

K_{l3} transition form factors

The rainbow truncation of the quark Dyson-Schwinger equation is combined with the ladder Bethe-Salpeter equation for the meson bound state amplitudes and the dressed quark-W vertex in a manifestly covariant calculation of the K_{l3} transition form factors and decay width in impulse approximation. With model gluon parameters previously fixed by the chiral condensate, the pion mass and decay constant, and the kaon mass, our results for the K_{l3} form factors and the kaon semileptonic decay width are in good agreement with the experimental data.

New effective treatment of the light-front nonvalence contribution in timelike exclusive processes

We discuss a necessary nonvalence contribution in timelike exclusive processes. Following a Schwinger-Dyson type of approach, we relate the nonvalence contribution to an ordinary light-front wave function that has been extensively tested in the spacelike exclusive processes. A complicate four-body energy denominator is exactly cancelled in summing the light-front time-ordered amplitudes. Applying our method to $K_{\ell3}$ and $D^0\to K^- \ell^+ ν_l$ where a rather substantial nonvalence contribution is expected, we find not only an improvement in comparing with the experimental data but also a covariance(i.e. frame-independence) of existing light-front constituent quark model.

Pion Form Factor and Quark Mass Evolution in a Light-Front Bethe-Salpeter Model

We discuss the soft contribution to the elastic pion form factor with the mass evolution from current to constituent quark being taken into account using a light-front Bethe-Salpeter (LFBS) model, which is a light-front quark model (LFQM) with a running mass. It is shown that partial conservation of the axial-vector current (PCAC) is satisfied with a running quark mass. We examine the sensitivity of the pion form factor using two different functional forms of the quark propagator. The Ball-Chiu ansatz is used to maintain local gauge invariance of the quark-photon vertex. The extension of our model to the hard contribution is also discussed.

Regularizing the Divergent Structure of the Light-Front Currents

The divergences appearing in the 3+1 dimensional fermion-loop calculations are often regulated by smearing the vertices in a covariant manner. Performing a parallel light-front calculation, we corroborate the similarity between the vertex-smearing-technique and the Pauli-Villars regularization. In the light-front calculation of the electromagnetic meson current, we find that the persistent end-point singularity that appears in the case of point vertices is removed even if the smeared-vertex is taken to the limit of the point-vertex. Recapitulating the current conservation, we substantiate the finiteness of both valence and non-valence contributions in all components of the current with the regularized bound-state vertex. However, we stress that each contribution, valence or non-valence, depends on the reference-frame even though the sum is always frame-independent. The numerical taxonomy of each contribution including the instantaneous contribution and the zero-mode contribution is presented in the $π$, $K$, and $D$-meson form factors.

Higher-Fock States and the Covariance of the Light-Front Quark Model

The light-front quark model has been successful in describing various meson properties. We apply the model to the meson weak decays and discuss the covariance of the model. We find that the inclusion of the higher-Fock state(i.e. nonvalence or so called Z-graph) contributions is necessary to recover the covariance of the light-front quark model. We present the possibility of the effective calculation of the higher-Fock state contributions to restore the covarince in the light-front model.

Flow equations for quark-gluon interactions in light-front QCD

The flow-equation method of continuous unitary transformations is used to eliminate the minimal quark-gluon interaction in the light-front quantized QCD Hamiltonian. The coupled differential equations in the two lowest Fock sectors correspond to the renormalization of the light-front gluon mass and the generation of an effective quark-antiquark (as well as gluon-gluon) interaction. The original gauge field coupling is completely eliminated, even in the presence of degenerate states connected by this interaction. Further, a more singular $1/q^4$ behavior for the quark and gluon effective interactions at small gluon momenta is obtained, due to the asymptotic behavior of the effective gluon mass for small cutoff. We discuss the consequences of this asymptotic behavior and possible confinement implications.

Exploring the timelike region for the elastic form factor in the light-front quantization

Even though the Drell-Yan-West formulation is the most rigorous and well-established framework to compute the exclusive processes, its utility has been limited only to the spacelike region because of the intrinsic kinematic constraint $q^+=0$. We present an explicit example demonstrating how one may obtain the necessary information (i.e. nonvalence or so called Z-graph contribution) in the timelike region of exclusive process without encountering a formidable task of direct calculation that has hindered so far the progress in this area. In the analysis of $q\bar{Q}$ bound state form factors using an exactly solvable model of $(3+1)$ dimensional scalar field theory interacting with gauge fields, the results analytically continued from the spacelike region coincide exactly with the direct results in the timelike region. This example verifies that the method of analytic continuation is capable of yielding the effect of complicate nonvalence contributions. The meson peaks analogous to the vector meson dominance(VMD) phenomena are also generated at the usual VMD positions.

Flow Equations for Gluodynamics in the Coulomb Gauge

A systematic procedure to consistently formulate a field theoretical, QCD bound state problem with a fixed number of constituents is outlined. The approach entails applying the Hamiltonian flow equations, which are a set of continuous unitary transformations, to a QCD motivated Hamiltonian with a confining interaction. The method is developed in detail for gluodynamics in the Coulomb gauge to obtain an effective block-diagonal Hamiltonian appropriate to a reduced Fock space with fixed number of dynamical gluons. Standard many-body techniques are used to numerically diagonalize this Hamiltonian in a constituent two gluon Fock space. The calculated gluon condensates and glueball masses are in good agreement with QCD sum rule and lattice results.

Disentangling Intertwined Embedded States and Spin Effects in Light-Front Quantization

Naive light-front quantization, carried out by a light-front energy integration of covariant amplitudes, is not guaranteed to generate the corresponding Feynman amplitudes. In an explicit example we show that the nonvalence contribution to the minus-component of the EM current of a meson with fermion constituents has a persistent end-point singularity. Only after this term is subtracted, the result is covariant and satisfies current conservation. If the spin-1/2 constituents are replaced by spin zero ones, the singularity does not occur and the result is, without any adjustment, identical to the Feynman amplitude. Numerical estimates of valence and nonvalence contributions are presented for the cases of fermion and boson constituents.

Renormalization-Scale-Invariant PQCD Predictions for R_e+e- and the Bjorken Sum Rule at Next-to-Leading Order

We discuss application of the physical QCD effective charge $α_V$, defined via the heavy-quark potential, in perturbative calculations at next-to-leading order. When coupled with the Brodsky-Lepage-Mackenzie prescription for fixing the renormalization scales, the resulting series are automatically and naturally scale and scheme independent, and represent unambiguous predictions of perturbative QCD. We consider in detail such commensurate scale relations for the $e^+e^-$ annihilation ratio $R_{e^+e^-}$ and the Bjorken sum rule. In both cases the improved predictions are in excellent agreement with experiment.

Hamiltonian renormalization for bound state problem in gluodynamics

The systematic approach to study bound states in gluodynamics is presented. The method utilizes flow equations together with low-energy phenomenology, that provides the perturbative renormalization scaling in conjuction with the change of the basis to constituent gluon states. The renormalized effective Hamiltonian of gluodynamics up to the second order is obtained at low energies, which provides a kind of constituent gluon model for glueball bound states. The approach allows to include perturbative QCD corrections into nonperturbative calculations of many-body techniques. The performed numerical calculations support the constituent picture of hadronic observables.

Solving the QCD Hamiltonian for bound states

The systematic approach to study bound states in quantum chromodynamics is presented. The method utilizes nonperturbative flow equations in the confining background, that makes possible to perform perturbative renormalization and to bring the QCD Hamiltonian to a block-diagonal form with the number of quasiparticles conserving in each block. The effective block-diagonal Hamiltonian provides constituent description for hadron observables. The renormalized to the second order effective Hamiltonian of gluodynamics in the Coulomb gauge is obtained at low energies. The masses for scalar and pseudoscalar glueballs are predicted.
