Incorporating Distributed DRL into Storage Resource Optimization of Space-Air-Ground Integrated Wireless Communication Network

Space-air-ground integrated network (SAGIN) is a new type of wireless network mode. The effective management of SAGIN resources is a prerequisite for high-reliability communication. However, the storage capacity of space-air network segment is extremely limited. The air servers also do not have sufficient storage resources to centrally accommodate the information uploaded by each edge server. So the problem of how to coordinate the storage resources of SAGIN has arisen. This paper proposes a SAGIN storage resource management algorithm based on distributed deep reinforcement learning (DRL). The resource management process is modeled as a Markov decision model. In each edge physical domain, we extract the network attributes represented by storage resources for the agent to build a training environment, so as to realize the distributed training. In addition, we propose a SAGIN resource management framework based on distributed DRL. Simulation results show that the agent has an ideal training effect. Compared with other algorithms, the resource allocation revenue and user request acceptance rate of the proposed algorithm are increased by about 18.15\% and 8.35\% respectively. Besides, the proposed algorithm has good flexibility in dealing with the changes of resource conditions.

Security-Aware Virtual Network Embedding Algorithm based on Reinforcement Learning

Virtual network embedding (VNE) algorithm is always the key problem in network virtualization (NV) technology. At present, the research in this field still has the following problems. The traditional way to solve VNE problem is to use heuristic algorithm. However, this method relies on manual embedding rules, which does not accord with the actual situation of VNE. In addition, as the use of intelligent learning algorithm to solve the problem of VNE has become a trend, this method is gradually outdated. At the same time, there are some security problems in VNE. However, there is no intelligent algorithm to solve the security problem of VNE. For this reason, this paper proposes a security-aware VNE algorithm based on reinforcement learning (RL). In the training phase, we use a policy network as a learning agent and take the extracted attributes of the substrate nodes to form a feature matrix as input. The learning agent is trained in this environment to get the mapping probability of each substrate node. In the test phase, we map nodes according to the mapping probability and use the breadth-first strategy (BFS) to map links. For the security problem, we add security requirements level constraint for each virtual node and security level constraint for each substrate node. Virtual nodes can only be embedded on substrate nodes that are not lower than the level of security requirements. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is superior to other typical algorithms in terms of long-term average return, long-term revenue consumption ratio and virtual network request (VNR) acceptance rate.

Deep Reinforcement Learning Assisted Federated Learning Algorithm for Data Management of IIoT

The continuous expanded scale of the industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) leads to IIoT equipments generating massive amounts of user data every moment. According to the different requirement of end users, these data usually have high heterogeneity and privacy, while most of users are reluctant to expose them to the public view. How to manage these time series data in an efficient and safe way in the field of IIoT is still an open issue, such that it has attracted extensive attention from academia and industry. As a new machine learning (ML) paradigm, federated learning (FL) has great advantages in training heterogeneous and private data. This paper studies the FL technology applications to manage IIoT equipment data in wireless network environments. In order to increase the model aggregation rate and reduce communication costs, we apply deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to IIoT equipment selection process, specifically to select those IIoT equipment nodes with accurate models. Therefore, we propose a FL algorithm assisted by DRL, which can take into account the privacy and efficiency of data training of IIoT equipment. By analyzing the data characteristics of IIoT equipments, we use MNIST, fashion MNIST and CIFAR-10 data sets to represent the data generated by IIoT. During the experiment, we employ the deep neural network (DNN) model to train the data, and experimental results show that the accuracy can reach more than 97\%, which corroborates the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Underwater Differential Game: Finite-Time Target Hunting Task with Communication Delay

This work considers designing an unmanned target hunting system for a swarm of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) to hunt a target with high maneuverability. Differential game theory is used to analyze combat policies of UUVs and the target within finite time. The challenge lies in UUVs must conduct their control policies in consideration of not only the consistency of the hunting team but also escaping behaviors of the target. To obtain stable feedback control policies satisfying Nash equilibrium, we construct the Hamiltonian function with Leibniz's formula. For further taken underwater disturbances and communication delay into consideration, modified deep reinforcement learning (DRL) is provided to investigate the underwater target hunting task in an unknown dynamic environment. Simulations show that underwater disturbances have a large impact on the system considering communication delay. Moreover, consistency tests show that UUVs perform better consistency with a relatively small range of disturbances.

Asymptotic Average Mutual Information Over Finite Input Mixture Gamma Distributed Channels

This letter establishes a unified analytical framework to study the asymptotic average mutual information (AMI) of mixture gamma (MG) distributed fading channels driven by finite input signals in the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime. It is found that the AMI converges to some constant as the average SNR increases and its rate of convergence (ROC) is determined by the coding gain and diversity order. Moreover, the derived results are used to investigate the asymptotic optimal power allocation policy of a bank of parallel fading channels having finite inputs. It is suggested that in the high SNR region, the sub-channel with a lower coding gain or diversity order should be allocated with more power. Finally, numerical results are provided to collaborate the theoretical analyses.

SDN-based Resource Allocation in Edge and Cloud Computing Systems: An Evolutionary Stackelberg Differential Game Approach

Recently, the boosting growth of computation-heavy applications raises great challenges for the Fifth Generation (5G) and future wireless networks. As responding, the hybrid edge and cloud computing (ECC) system has been expected as a promising solution to handle the increasing computational applications with low-latency and on-demand services of computation offloading, which requires new computing resource sharing and access control technology paradigms. This work establishes a software-defined networking (SDN) based architecture for edge/cloud computing services in 5G heterogeneous networks (HetNets), which can support efficient and on-demand computing resource management to optimize resource utilization and satisfy the time-varying computational tasks uploaded by user devices. In addition, resulting from the information incompleteness, we design an evolutionary game based service selection for users, which can model the replicator dynamics of service subscription. Based on this dynamic access model, a Stackelberg differential game based cloud computing resource sharing mechanism is proposed to facilitate the resource trading between the cloud computing service provider (CCP) and different edge computing service providers (ECPs). Then we derive the optimal pricing and allocation strategies of cloud computing resource based on the replicator dynamics of users' service selection. These strategies can promise the maximum integral utilities to all computing service providers (CPs), meanwhile the user distribution can reach the evolutionary stable state at this Stackelberg equilibrium. Furthermore, simulation results validate the performance of the designed resource sharing mechanism, and reveal the convergence and equilibrium states of user selection, and computing resource pricing and allocation.

Physical Layer Security Over Mixture Gamma Distributed Fading Channels With Discrete Inputs: A Unified and General Analytical Framework

Physical layer security is investigated over mixture Gamma (MG) distributed fading channels with discrete inputs. By the Gaussian quadrature rules, closed-form expressions are derived to characterize the average secrecy rate (ASR) and secrecy outage probability (SOP), whose accuracy is validated by numerical simulations. To show more properties of the finite-alphabet signaling, we perform an asymptotic analysis on the secrecy metrics in the large limit of the average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the main channel. Leveraging the Mellin transform, we find that the ASR and SOP converge to some constants as the average SNR increases and we derive novel expressions to characterize the rates of convergence. This work establishes a unified and general analytical framework for the secrecy performance achieved by discrete inputs.

Scalable and Communication-efficient Decentralized Federated Edge Learning with Multi-blockchain Framework

The emerging Federated Edge Learning (FEL) technique has drawn considerable attention, which not only ensures good machine learning performance but also solves "data island" problems caused by data privacy concerns. However, large-scale FEL still faces following crucial challenges: (i) there lacks a secure and communication-efficient model training scheme for FEL; (2) there is no scalable and flexible FEL framework for updating local models and global model sharing (trading) management. To bridge the gaps, we first propose a blockchain-empowered secure FEL system with a hierarchical blockchain framework consisting of a main chain and subchains. This framework can achieve scalable and flexible decentralized FEL by individually manage local model updates or model sharing records for performance isolation. A Proof-of-Verifying consensus scheme is then designed to remove low-quality model updates and manage qualified model updates in a decentralized and secure manner, thereby achieving secure FEL. To improve communication efficiency of the blockchain-empowered FEL, a gradient compression scheme is designed to generate sparse but important gradients to reduce communication overhead without compromising accuracy, and also further strengthen privacy preservation of training data. The security analysis and numerical results indicate that the proposed schemes can achieve secure, scalable, and communication-efficient decentralized FEL.

Device-to-Device (D2D) communication is offering smart phone users a choice to share files with each other without communicating with the cellular network. In this paper, we discuss the behaviors of two characters in the D2D data transaction model from an economic point of view: the data buyers who wish to buy a certain quantity of data, as well as the data sellers who wish to sell data through the D2D network. The optimal price and purchasing strategies are analyzed and deduced based on game theory.

Aggressive Congestion Control Mechanism for Space Systems

How to implement an impeccable space system-of-systems (SoS) internetworking architecture has been a significant issue in system engineering for years. Reliable data transmission is considered one of the most important technologies of space SoS internetworking systems. Due to the high bit error rate (BER), long time delay and asymmetrical channel in the space communication environment, the congestion control mechanism of classic transport control protocols (TCP) shows unsatisfying performances. With the help of existing TCP modifications, this paper contributes an aggressive congestion control mechanism. The proposed mechanism is characterized with a fast start procedure, as well as the feedback information to analyze network traffic and with a link terminating processing mechanism, which can help to reveal the real reason of packet loss, and maintain the size of congestion window at a high level. Simulation results are shown in the end to verify the proposed scheme.

Complex Network Theoretical Analysis on Information Dissemination over Vehicular Networks

How to enhance the communication efficiency and quality on vehicular networks is one critical important issue. While with the larger and larger scale of vehicular networks in dense cities, the real-world datasets show that the vehicular networks essentially belong to the complex network model. Meanwhile, the extensive research on complex networks has shown that the complex network theory can both provide an accurate network illustration model and further make great contributions to the network design, optimization and management. In this paper, we start with analyzing characteristics of a taxi GPS dataset and then establishing the vehicular-to-infrastructure, vehicle-to-vehicle and the hybrid communication model, respectively. Moreover, we propose a clustering algorithm for station selection, a traffic allocation optimization model and an information source selection model based on the communication performances and complex network theory.

Access Strategy in Super WiFi Network Powered by Solar Energy Harvesting: A POMDP Method

The recently announced Super Wi-Fi Network proposal in United States is aiming to enable Internet access in a nation-wide area. As traditional cable-connected power supply system becomes impractical or costly for a wide range wireless network, new infrastructure deployment for Super Wi-Fi is required. The fast developing Energy Harvesting (EH) techniques receive global attentions for their potential of solving the above power supply problem. It is a critical issue, from the user's perspective, how to make efficient network selection and access strategies. Unlike traditional wireless networks, the battery charge state and tendency in EH based networks have to be taken into account when making network selection and access, which has not been well investigated. In this paper, we propose a practical and efficient framework for multiple base stations access strategy in an EH powered Super Wi-Fi network. We consider the access strategy from the user's perspective, who exploits downlink transmission opportunities from one base station. To formulate the problem, we used Partially Observable Markov Decision Process (POMDP) to model users' observations on the base stations' battery situation and decisions on the base station selection and access. Simulation results show that our methods are efficacious and significantly outperform the traditional widely used CSMA method.

Decentralized Blockchain for Privacy-Preserving Large-Scale Contact Tracing

Activity-tracking applications and location-based services using short-range communication (SRC) techniques have been abruptly demanded in the COVID-19 pandemic, especially for automated contact tracing. The attention from both public and policy keeps raising on related practical problems, including \textit{1) how to protect data security and location privacy? 2) how to efficiently and dynamically deploy SRC Internet of Thing (IoT) witnesses to monitor large areas?} To answer these questions, in this paper, we propose a decentralized and permissionless blockchain protocol, named \textit{Bychain}. Specifically, 1) a privacy-preserving SRC protocol for activity-tracking and corresponding generalized block structure is developed, by connecting an interactive zero-knowledge proof protocol and the key escrow mechanism. As a result, connections between personal identity and the ownership of on-chain location information are decoupled. Meanwhile, the owner of the on-chain location data can still claim its ownership without revealing the private key to anyone else. 2) An artificial potential field-based incentive allocation mechanism is proposed to incentivize IoT witnesses to pursue the maximum monitoring coverage deployment. We implemented and evaluated the proposed blockchain protocol in the real-world using the Bluetooth 5.0. The storage, CPU utilization, power consumption, time delay, and security of each procedure and performance of activities are analyzed. The experiment and security analysis is shown to provide a real-world performance evaluation.

Secrecy Performance for Finite-Alphabet Inputs Over Fluctuating Two-Ray Channels in FDA Communications

To provide system design insights for practical communication systems equipped with the frequency diverse array (FDA), this paper investigates the secrecy performance of FDA systems exploiting finite-alphabet inputs over fluctuating two-ray (FTR) fading channels. More specifically, closed-form expressions for the average secrecy rate (ASR) and the secrecy outage probability (SOP) are derived, while their correctness is confirmed by numerical simulations. In addition, we perform asymptotic analysis to quantify the secrecy performance gap between Gaussian and finite-alphabet inputs, for a sufficiently large average signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the main channel. Compared with Gaussian inputs-based research, this letter focuses on practical scenarios which sheds lights on properties of FDA systems.

Self-Organization in Disaster Resilient Heterogeneous Small Cell Networks

Heterogeneous small cell networks with overlay femtocells and macrocell is a promising solution for future heterogeneous wireless cellular communications. However, great resilience is needed in heterogeneous small cells in case of accidents, attacks and natural disasters. In this article, we first describe the network architecture of disaster resilient heterogeneous small cell networks (DRHSCNs), where several self-organization inspired approaches are applied. Based on the proposed resilient heterogeneous small cell network architecture, self-configuring (power, physical cell ID and neighbor cell list self-configuration) and self-optimizing (coverage and capacity optimization and mobility robustness optimization) techniques are investigated in the DRHSCN. Simulation results show that self-configuration and self-optimization can effectively improve the performance of the deployment and operation of the small cell networks in disaster scenarios.

Cooperative Interference Mitigation and Handover Management for Heterogeneous Cloud Small Cell Networks

Heterogeneous small cell network has attracted much attention to satisfy users' explosive data traffic requirements. Heterogeneous cloud small cell network (HCSNet), which combines cloud computing and heterogeneous small cell network, will likely play an important role in 5G mobile communication networks. However, with massive deployment of small cells, co-channel interference and handover management are two important problems in HCSNet, especially for cell edge users. In this article, we examine the problems of cooperative interference mitigation and handover management in HCSNet. A network architecture is described to combine cloud radio access network with small cells. An effective coordinated multi-point (CoMP) clustering scheme using affinity propagation is adopted to mitigate cell edge users' interference. A low complexity handover management scheme is presented, and its signaling procedure is analyzed in HCSNet. Numerical results show that the proposed network architecture, CoMP clustering scheme and handover management scheme can significantly increase the capacity of HCSNet while maintaining users' quality of service.

Evolutionary Dynamics of Information Diffusion over Social Networks

Current social networks are of extremely large-scale generating tremendous information flows at every moment. How information diffuse over social networks has attracted much attention from both industry and academics. Most of the existing works on information diffusion analysis are based on machine learning methods focusing on social network structure analysis and empirical data mining. However, the dynamics of information diffusion, which are heavily influenced by network users' decisions, actions and their socio-economic interactions, is generally ignored by most of existing works. In this paper, we propose an evolutionary game theoretic framework to model the dynamic information diffusion process in social networks. Specifically, we derive the information diffusion dynamics in complete networks, uniform degree and non-uniform degree networks, with the highlight of two special networks, Erdős-Rényi random network and the Barabási-Albert scale-free network. We find that the dynamics of information diffusion over these three kinds of networks are scale-free and the same with each other when the network scale is sufficiently large. To verify our theoretical analysis, we perform simulations for the information diffusion over synthetic networks and real-world Facebook networks. Moreover, we also conduct experiment on Twitter hashtags dataset, which shows that the proposed game theoretic model can well fit and predict the information diffusion over real social networks.
