Chern-Simons line bundle on Teichmüller space

Let $X$ be a non-compact geometrically finite hyperbolic 3-manifold without cusps of rank 1. The deformation space $\mc{H}$ of $X$ can be identified with the Teichmüller space $\mc{T}$ of the conformal boundary of $X$ as the graph of a section in $T^*\mc{T}$. We construct a Hermitian holomorphic line bundle $\mc{L}$ on $\mc{T}$, with curvature equal to a multiple of the Weil-Petersson symplectic form. This bundle has a canonical holomorphic section defined by $e^{\frac{1}π{\rm Vol}_R(X)+2πi\CS(X)}$ where ${\rm Vol}_R(X)$ is the renormalized volume of $X$ and $\CS(X)$ is the Chern-Simons invariant of $X$. This section is parallel on $\mc{H}$ for the Hermitian connection modified by the $(1,0)$ component of the Liouville form on $T^*\mc{T}$. As applications, we deduce that $\mc{H}$ is Lagrangian in $T^*\mc{T}$, and that ${\rm Vol}_R(X)$ is a Kähler potential for the Weil-Petersson metric on $\mc{T}$ and on its quotient by a certain subgroup of the mapping class group. For the Schottky uniformisation, we use a formula of Zograf to construct an explicit isomorphism of holomorphic Hermitian line bundles between $\mc{L}^{-1}$ and the sixth power of the determinant line bundle.

Equidistribution of Eisenstein series on convex co-compact hyperbolic manifolds

For convex co-compact hyperbolic manifolds $Γ\backslash \mathbb{H}^{n+1}$ for which the dimension of the limit set satisfies $δ_Γ< n/2$, we show that the high-frequency Eisenstein series associated to a point $ξ$ "at infinity" concentrate microlocally on a measure supported by (the closure of) the set of points in the unit cotangent bundle corresponding to geodesics ending at $ξ$. The average in $ξ$ of these limit measures equidistributes towards the Liouville measure.

Inverse Boundary Problems for Systems in Two Dimensions

We prove identification of coefficients up to gauge by Cauchy data at the boundary for elliptic systems on oriented compact surfaces with boundary or domains of $\mathbb{C}$. In the geometric setting, we fix a Riemann surface with boundary, and consider both a Dirac-type operator plus potential acting on sections of a Clifford bundle and a connection Laplacian plus potential (i.e. Schrödinger Laplacian with external Yang-Mills field) acting on sections of a Hermitian bundle. In either case we show that the Cauchy data determines both the connection and the potential up to a natural gauge transformation: conjugation by an endomorphism of the bundle which is the identity at the boundary. For domains of $\mathbb{C}$, we recover zeroth order terms up to gauge from Cauchy data at the boundary in first order elliptic systems.

Strichartz estimates without loss on manifolds with hyperbolic trapped geodesics

Doi proved that the $L^2_t H^{1/2}_x$ local smoothing effect for Schrödinger equation on a Riemannian manifold does not hold if the geodesic flow has one trapped trajectory. We show in contrast that Strichartz estimates and $L^1\to L^\infty$ dispersive estimates still hold without loss for $e^{itΔ}$ in various situations where the trapped set is hyperbolic and of sufficiently small fractal dimension.

Bergman and Calderón projectors for Dirac operators

For a Dirac operator $D_{\bar{g}}$ over a spin compact Riemannian manifold with boundary $(\bar{X},\bar{g})$, we give a natural construction of the Calderón projector and of the associated Bergman projector on the space of harmonic spinors on $\bar{X}$, and we analyze their Schwartz kernels. Our approach is based on the conformal covariance of $D_{\bar{g}}$ and the scattering theory for the Dirac operator associated to the complete conformal metric $g=\bar{g}/ρ^2$ where $ρ$ is a smooth function on $\bar{X}$ which equals the distance to the boundary near $\partial\bar{X}$. We show that $({\rm Id}+\tilde{S}(0))/2$ is the orthogonal Calderón projector, where $\tilde{S}(λ)$ is the holomorphic family in $\{\Re(λ)\geq 0\}$ of normalized scattering operators constructed in our previous work, which are classical pseudo-differential of order $2λ$. Finally we construct natural conformally covariant odd powers of the Dirac operator on any spin manifold.

Identification of a connection from Cauchy data on a Riemann surface with boundary

We consider a connection $\nabla^X$ on a complex line bundle over a Riemann surface with boundary $M_0$, with connection 1-form $X$. We show that the Cauchy data space of the connection Laplacian (also called magnetic Laplacian) $L:={\nabla^X}^*\nabla^X + q$, with $q$ a complex valued potential, uniquely determines the connection up to gauge isomorphism, and the potential $q$.

Spectral analysis of random walk operators on euclidian space

We study the operator associated to a random walk on $\R^d$ endowed with a probability measure. We give a precise description of the spectrum of the operator near $1$ and use it to estimate the total variation distance between the iterated kernel and its stationary measure. Our study contains the case of Gaussian densities on $\R^d$.

Random walk on surfaces with hyperbolic cusps

We consider the operator associated to a random walk on finite volume surfaces with hyperbolic cusps. We study the spectral gap (upper and lower bound) associated to this operator and deduce some rate of convergence of the iterated kernel towards its stationary distribution.

Inverse scattering at fixed energy on surfaces with Euclidean ends

On a fixed Riemann surface $(M_0,g_0)$ with $N$ Euclidean ends and genus $g$, we show that, under a topological condition, the scattering matrix $S_V(\la)$ at frequency $\la > 0$ for the operator $Δ+V$ determines the potential $V$ if $V\in C^{1,α}(M_0)\cap e^{-γd(\cdot,z_0)^j}L^\infty(M_0)$ for all $γ>0$ and for some $j\in\{1,2\}$, where $d(z,z_0)$ denotes the distance from $z$ to a fixed point $z_0\in M_0$. The topological condition is given by $N\geq\max(2g+1,2)$ for $j=1$ and by $N\geq g+1$ if $j=2$. In $\rr^2$ this implies that the operator $S_V(\la)$ determines any $C^{1,α}$ potential $V$ such that $V(z)=O(e^{-γ|z|^2})$ for all $γ>0$.

Spectral characterization of Poincaré-Einstein manifolds with infinity of positive Yamabe type

In this paper, we give a sharp spectral characterization of conformally compact Einstein manifolds with conformal infinity of positive Yamabe type in dimension $n+1>3$. More precisely, we prove that the largest real scattering pole of a conformally compact Einstein manifold $(X,g)$ is less than $\ndemi -1$ if and only if the conformal infinity of $(X,g)$ is of positive Yamabe type. If this positivity is satisfied, we also show that the Green function of the fractional conformal Laplacian $P(α)$ on the conformal infinity is non-negative for all $α\in [0, 2]$.

Calderon inverse Problem with partial data on Riemann Surfaces

On a fixed smooth compact Riemann surface with boundary $(M_0,g)$, we show that for the Schrödinger operator $Δ+V$ with potential $V\in C^{1,α}(M_0)$ for some $α>0$, the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map $N|_Γ$ measured on an open set $Γ\subset \partial M_0$ determines uniquely the potential $V$. We also discuss briefly the corresponding consequences for potential scattering at 0 frequency on Riemann surfaces with asymptotically Euclidean or asymptotically hyperbolic ends.

Calderon inverse Problem for the Schrodinger Operator on Riemann Surfaces

On a fixed smooth compact Riemann surface with boundary $(M_0,g)$, we show that the Cauchy data space (or Dirichlet-to-Neumann map $\mc{N}$) of the Schrödinger operator $Δ+V$ with $V\in C^2(M_0)$ determines uniquely the potential $V$. We also discuss briefly the corresponding consequences for potential scattering at 0 frequency on Riemann surfaces with asymptotically Euclidean or asymptotically hyperbolic ends.

Eta invariant and Selberg Zeta function of odd type over convex co-compact hyperbolic manifolds

We show meromorphic extension and analyze the divisors of a Selberg zeta function of odd type $Z_{Γ,Σ}^{\rm o}(λ)$ associated to the spinor bundle $Σ$ on odd dimensional convex co-compact hyperbolic manifolds $X:=Γ\backslash\hh^{2n+1}$. We define a natural eta invariant $η(D)$ associated to the Dirac operator $D$ on $X$ and prove that $η(D)=\frac{1}{πi}\log Z_{Γ,Σ}^{\rm o}(0)$, thus extending Millson's formula to this setting. As a byproduct, we do a full analysis of the spectral and scattering theory of the Dirac operator on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. We also define an eta invariant for the odd signature operator and, under some conditions, we describe it on the Schottky space of 3-dimensional Schottky hyperbolic manifolds and relate it to Zograf factorization formula.

Inverse problems for Einstein manifolds

We show that the Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator of the Laplacian on an open subset of the boundary of a connected compact Einstein manifold with boundary determines the manifold up to isometries. Similarly, for connected conformally compact Einstein manifolds of even dimension $n+1$, we prove that the scattering matrix at energy $n$ on an open subset of its boundary determines the manifold up to isometries.

Conformal harmonic forms, Branson-Gover operators and Dirichlet problem at infinity

For odd dimensional Poincaré-Einstein manifolds $(X^{n+1},g)$, we study the set of harmonic $k$-forms (for $k<\ndemi$) which are $C^m$ (with $m\in\nn$) on the conformal compactification $\bar{X}$ of $X$. This is infinite dimensional for small $m$ but it becomes finite dimensional if $m$ is large enough, and in one-to-one correspondence with the direct sum of the relative cohomology $H^k(\bar{X},\pl\bar{X})$ and the kernel of the Branson-Gover \cite{BG} differential operators $(L_k,G_k)$ on the conformal infinity $(\pl\bar{X},[h_0])$. In a second time we relate the set of $C^{n-2k+1}(Λ^k(\bar{X}))$ forms in the kernel of $d+δ_g$ to the conformal harmonics on the boundary in the sense of \cite{BG}, providing some sort of long exact sequence adapted to this setting. This study also provides another construction of Branson-Gover differential operators, including a parallel construction of the generalization of $Q$ curvature for forms.

Wave decay on convex co-compact hyperbolic manifolds

For convex co-compact hyperbolic quotients $X=Γ\backslash\hh^{n+1}$, we analyze the long-time asymptotic of the solution of the wave equation $u(t)$ with smooth compactly supported initial data $f=(f_0,f_1)$. We show that, if the Hausdorff dimension $δ$ of the limit set is less than $n/2$, then $u(t) = C_δ(f) e^{(δ-\ndemi)t} / Γ(δ-n/2+1) + e^{(δ-\ndemi)t} R(t)$ where $C_δ(f)\in C^\infty(X)$ and $||R(t)||=\mc{O}(t^{-\infty})$. We explain, in terms of conformal theory of the conformal infinity of $X$, the special cases $δ\in n/2-\nn$ where the leading asymptotic term vanishes. In a second part, we show for all $\eps>0$ the existence of an infinite number of resonances (and thus zeros of Selberg zeta function) in the strip $\{-nδ-\eps<\Re(\la)<δ\}$. As a byproduct we obtain a lower bound on the remainder $R(t)$ for generic initial data $f$.

Generalized Krein formula and determinants for even dimensional Poincare-Einstein manifolds

For a class of even dimensional conformally compact manifolds (X,g), we define a generalized Krein spectral function by applying a renormalized trace functional to the spectral measure of the Laplacian. We then show that this is the phase of the Kontsevich-Vishik determinant det S(s) of the scattering operator S(s) of (the Laplacian of) g and we analyze the divisors of det(S(s)). As an application for convex co-compact hyperbolic quotients, we obtain a functional equation for Selberg's Zeta function Z(s), we express the determinant of the GJMS conformal Laplacians of the conformal infinity of (X,g) in term of particular values of Z(s), and we show a sharp Weyl type asymptotic for the Krein function.

The determinant of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map for surfaces with boundary

For any orientable compact surface with boundary, we compute the regularized determinant of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann (DN) map in terms of particular values of dynamical zeta functions by using natural uniformizations, one due to Mazzeo-Taylor, the other to Osgood-Phillips-Sarnak. We also relate in any dimension the DN map for the Yamabe operator to the scattering operator for a conformally compact related problem by using uniformization.
