Resolvent at low energy and Riesz transform for Schroedinger operators on asymptotically conic manifolds. II

Let $(M^\circ, g)$ be an asymptotically conic manifold, in the sense that $M^\circ$ compactifies to a manifold with boundary $M$ in such a way that $g$ becomes a scattering metric on $M$. A special case of particular interest is that of asymptotically Euclidean manifolds, where $\partial M = S^{n-1}$ and the induced metric at infinity is equal to the standard metric. We study the resolvent kernel $(P + k^2)^{-1}$ and Riesz transform of the operator $P = Δ_g + V$, where $Δ_g$ is the positive Laplacian associated to $g$ and $V$ is a real potential function $V$ that is smooth on $M$ and vanishes to some finite order at the boundary. In the first paper in this series we made the assumption that $n \geq 3$ and that $P$ has neither zero modes nor a zero-resonance and showed (i) that the resolvent kernel is conormal to the lifted diagonal and polyhomogeneous at the boundary on a blown up version of $M^2 \times [0, k_0]$, and (ii) the Riesz transform of $P$ is bounded on $L^p(M^\circ)$ for $1 < p < n$, and that this range is optimal unless $V \equiv 0$ and $M^\circ$ has only one end. In the present paper, we perform a similar analysis assuming again $n \geq 3$ but allowing zero modes and zero-resonances. We find the precise range of $p$ for which the Riesz transform (suitably defined) of $P$ is bounded on $L^p(M)$ when zero modes (but not resonances, which make the Riesz transform undefined) are present. Generically the Riesz transform is bounded for $p$ precisely in the range $(n/(n-2), n/3)$, with a bigger range possible if the zero modes have extra decay at infinity.

Resolvent at low energy and Riesz transform for Schrodinger operators on asymptotically conic manifolds, I

We analyze the resolvent $R(k)=(P+k^2)^{-1}$ of Schrödinger operators $P=Δ+V$ with short range potential $V$ on asymptotically conic manifolds $(M,g)$ (this setting includes asymptotically Euclidean manifolds) near $k=0$. We make the assumption that the dimension is greater or equal to 3 and that $P$ has no $L^2$ null space and no resonance at 0. In particular, we show that the Schwartz kernel of $R(k)$ is a conormal polyhomogeneous distribution on a desingularized version of $M\times M\times [0,1]$. Using this, we show that the Riesz transform of $P$ is bounded on $L^p$ for $1<p<n$ and that this range is optimal if $V$ is not identically zero or if $M$ has more than one end. We also analyze the case V=0 with one end. In a follow-up paper, we shall deal with the same problem in the presence of zero modes and zero-resonances.

Scattering and Inverse Scattering on ACH Manifolds

We study scattering and inverse scattering theories for asymptotically complex hyperbolic manifolds. We show the existence of the scattering operator as a meromorphic family of operators in the Heisenberg calculus on the boundary, which is a contact manifold with a pseudohermitian structure. Then we define the radiation fields as in the real asymptotically hyperbolic case, and reconstruct the scattering operator from those fields. As an application we show that the manifold, including its topology and the metric, are determined up to invariants by the scattering matrix at all energies.

Absence of resonance near the critical line on asymptotically hyperbolic spaces

As a consequence of a result of Cardoso and Vodev, we show that the resolvent of the Laplacian on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds is analytic in an exponential neighbourhood of the critical line. The case of non-trapping metrics with constant curvature near infinity is also considered: there exists a strip with at most a finite number of resonances.

Resonances on some geometrically finite hyperbolic manifolds

We prove the meromorphic extension to C for the resolvent of the Laplacian on a class of geometrically finite hyperbolic manifolds with infinite volume and we give a polynomial bound on the number of resonances. This class notably contains the geometrically finite quotients with rational non-maximal rank cusps previously studied by Froese-Hislop-Perry.

Resonances and scattering poles on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds

On an asymptotically hyperbolic manifold (X,g), we show that the resolvent resonances coincide, with multiplicities, with the poles of the renormalized scattering operator, except for the special points n/2-k (with k>0 integer) where an additional term appears: this is the dimension of the kernel of the k-conformal Laplacian on the boundary when (X,g) is Einstein.

Meromorphic properties of the resolvent on asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds

We show that the resolvent of the Laplacian on asymptotically hyperbolic spaces extends meromorphically with finite rank poles to the complex plane if and only if the metric is `even' (in a sense). If it is not even, there exist some cases where the resolvent has an essential singularity in the non-physical sheet.
