Multilinear fractional maximal and integral operators with homogeneous kernels, Hardy--Littlewood--Sobolev and Olsen-type inequalities

Let $m\in \mathbb{N}$ and $0<α<mn$.In this paper, we will use the idea of Hedberg to reprove that the multilinear operators $\mathcal{T}_{Ω,α;m}$ and $\mathcal{M}_{Ω,α;m}$ are bounded from $L^{p_1}(\mathbb R^n)\times L^{p_2}(\mathbb R^n)\times\cdots\times L^{p_m}(\mathbb R^n)$ into $L^q(\mathbb R^n)$ provided that $\vecΩ=(Ω_1,Ω_2,\dots,Ω_m)\in L^s(\mathbf{S}^{n-1})$, $s'<p_1,p_2,\dots,p_m<n/α$, \begin{equation*} \frac{\,1\,}{p}=\frac{1}{p_1}+\frac{1}{p_2}+\cdots+\frac{1}{p_m} \quad \mbox{and} \quad \frac{\,1\,}{q}=\frac{\,1\,}{p}-\fracα{n}. \qquad (*) \end{equation*} We also prove that under the assumptions that $\vecΩ=(Ω_1,Ω_2,\dots,Ω_m)\in L^s(\mathbf{S}^{n-1})$, $s'\leq p_1,p_2,\dots,p_m<n/α$ and $(*)$, the multilinear operators $\mathcal{T}_{Ω,α;m}$ and $\mathcal{M}_{Ω,α;m}$ are bounded from $L^{p_1}(\mathbb R^n)\times L^{p_2}(\mathbb R^n)\times \cdots\times L^{p_m}(\mathbb R^n)$ into $L^{q,\infty}(\mathbb R^n)$, which are completely new. Moreover, we will use the idea of Adams to show that $\mathcal{T}_{Ω,α;m}$ and $\mathcal{M}_{Ω,α;m}$ are bounded from $L^{p_1,κ}(\mathbb R^n)\times L^{p_2,κ}(\mathbb R^n)\times \cdots\times L^{p_m,κ}(\mathbb R^n)$ into $L^{q,κ}(\mathbb R^n)$ whenever $s'<p_1,p_2,\dots,p_m<n/α$, $0<κ<1$, \begin{equation*} \frac{\,1\,}{p}=\frac{1}{p_1}+\frac{1}{p_2}+\cdots+\frac{1}{p_m} \quad \mbox{and} \quad \frac{\,1\,}{q}=\frac{\,1\,}{p}-\fracα{n(1-κ)},\qquad (**) \end{equation*} and also bounded from $L^{p_1,κ}(\mathbb R^n)\times L^{p_2,κ}(\mathbb R^n)\times \cdots\times L^{p_m,κ}(\mathbb R^n)$ into $WL^{q,κ}(\mathbb R^n)$ whenever $s'\leq p_1,p_2,\dots,p_m<n/α$, $0<κ<1$ and $(**)$.

Some new characterizations of BLO and Campanato spaces in the Schrödinger setting

Let us consider the Schrödinger operator $\mathcal{L}=-Δ+V$ on $\mathbb R^d$ with $d\geq3$, where $Δ$ is the Laplacian operator on $\mathbb R^d$ and the nonnegative potential $V$ belongs to certain reverse Hölder class $RH_s$ with $s\geq d/2$. In this paper, the authors first introduce two kinds of function spaces related to the Schrödinger operator $\mathcal{L}$. A real-valued function $f\in L^1_{\mathrm{loc}}(\mathbb R^d)$ belongs to the (BLO) space $\mathrm{BLO}_{ρ,θ}(\mathbb R^d)$ with $0\leqθ<\infty$ if \begin{equation*} \|f\|_{\mathrm{BLO}_{ρ,θ}} :=\sup_{\mathcal{Q}}\bigg(1+\frac{r}{ρ(x_0)}\bigg)^{-θ}\bigg(\frac{1}{|Q(x_0,r)|} \int_{Q(x_0,r)}\Big[f(x)-\underset{y\in\mathcal{Q}}{\mathrm{ess\,inf}}\,f(y)\Big]\,dx\bigg), \end{equation*} where the supremum is taken over all cubes $\mathcal{Q}=Q(x_0,r)$ in $\mathbb R^d$, $ρ(\cdot)$ is the critical radius function in the Schrödinger context. For $0<β<1$, a real-valued function $f\in L^1_{\mathrm{loc}}(\mathbb R^d)$ belongs to the (Campanato) space $\mathcal{C}^{β,\ast}_{ρ,θ}(\mathbb R^d)$ with $0\leqθ<\infty$ if \begin{equation*} \|f\|_{\mathcal{C}^{β,\ast}_{ρ,θ}} :=\sup_{\mathcal{B}}\bigg(1+\frac{r}{ρ(x_0)}\bigg)^{-θ} \bigg(\frac{1}{|B(x_0,r)|^{1+β/d}}\int_{B(x_0,r)}\Big[f(x)-\underset{y\in\mathcal{B}}{\mathrm{ess\,inf}}\,f(y)\Big]\,dx\bigg), \end{equation*} where the supremum is taken over all balls $\mathcal{B}=B(x_0,r)$ in $\mathbb R^d$. Then we establish the corresponding John--Nirenberg inequality suitable for the space $\mathrm{BLO}_{ρ,θ}(\mathbb R^d)$ with $0\leqθ<\infty$ and $d\geq3$. Moreover, we give some new characterizations of the BLO and Campanato spaces related to $\mathcal{L}$ on weighted Lebesgue spaces, which is the extension of some earlier results.

Capturing Opportunity Costs of Batteries with a Staircase Supply-Demand Function

In the global pursuit of carbon neutrality, the role of batteries is indispensable. They provide pivotal flexibilities to counter uncertainties from renewables, preferably by participating in electricity markets. Unlike thermal generators, however, the dominant type of cost for batteries is opportunity cost, which is more vague and challenging to represent through bids in stipulated formats. This article shows the opposite yet surprising results: The demand-supply function of an ideal battery, considering its opportunity cost, is a staircase function with no more than five segments, which is a perfect match with existing rules in many real electricity markets. The demand-supply function shifts horizontally with price forecasts and vertically with the initial SOC. These results can be generalized to imperfect batteries and numerous battery-like resources, including battery clusters, air-conditioners, and electric vehicle charging stations, although the number of segments may vary. These results pave the way for batteries to participate in electricity markets.

Multi-Interval Energy-Reserve Co-Optimization with SoC-Dependent Bids from Battery Storage

We consider the problem of co-optimized energy-reserve market clearing with state-of-charge (SoC) dependent bids from battery storage participants. While SoC-dependent bids capture storage's degradation and opportunity costs, such bids result in a non-convex optimization in the market clearing process. More challenging is the regulation reserve capacity clearing, where the SoC-dependent cost is uncertain as it depends on the unknown regulation trajectories ex-post of the market clearing. Addressing the nonconvexity and uncertainty in a multi-interval co-optimized real-time energy-reserve market, we introduce a simple restriction on the SoC-dependent bids along with a robust optimization formulation, transforming the non-convex market clearing under uncertainty into a standard convex piece-wise linear program and making it possible for large-scale storage integration. Under reasonable assumptions, we show that SoC-dependent bids yield higher profit for storage participants than that from SoC-independent bids. Numerical simulations demonstrate a 28%-150% profit increase of the proposed SoC-dependent bids compared with the SoC-independent counterpart.

The Music Maestro or The Musically Challenged, A Massive Music Evaluation Benchmark for Large Language Models

Benchmark plays a pivotal role in assessing the advancements of large language models (LLMs). While numerous benchmarks have been proposed to evaluate LLMs' capabilities, there is a notable absence of a dedicated benchmark for assessing their musical abilities. To address this gap, we present ZIQI-Eval, a comprehensive and large-scale music benchmark specifically designed to evaluate the music-related capabilities of LLMs. ZIQI-Eval encompasses a wide range of questions, covering 10 major categories and 56 subcategories, resulting in over 14,000 meticulously curated data entries. By leveraging ZIQI-Eval, we conduct a comprehensive evaluation over 16 LLMs to evaluate and analyze LLMs' performance in the domain of music. Results indicate that all LLMs perform poorly on the ZIQI-Eval benchmark, suggesting significant room for improvement in their musical capabilities. With ZIQI-Eval, we aim to provide a standardized and robust evaluation framework that facilitates a comprehensive assessment of LLMs' music-related abilities. The dataset is available at GitHub\footnote{https://github.com/zcli-charlie/ZIQI-Eval} and HuggingFace\footnote{https://huggingface.co/datasets/MYTH-Lab/ZIQI-Eval}.

Crossed Nonlinear Dynamical Hall Effect in Twisted Bilayers

We propose a novel nonlinear dynamical Hall effect characteristic of layered materials with chiral symmetry, which is driven by the joint action of in-plane and time variation of out-of-plane ac fields $\boldsymbol{j}_{\text{H}}\sim\boldsymbol{\dot{E}_{\perp}}\times\boldsymbol{E}_{\parallel}$. A new band geometric quantity -- interlayer Berry connection polarizability, which probes a mixed quantum metric characteristic of layer hybridized electrons by twisted interlayer coupling, underlies this effect. When the two orthogonal fields have common frequency, their phase difference controls the on/off, direction and magnitude of the rectified Hall current. We show sizable effects in twisted homobilayer transition metal dichalcogenides and twisted bilayer graphene over broad range of twist angles. Our work opens the door to discovering mixed quantum metric responses unique to van der Waals stacking and concomitant applications under the nonlinear spotlight.

Wholesale Market Participation of DERA: DSO-DERA-ISO Coordination

Distributed energy resource aggregators (DERAs) must share the distribution network together with the distribution utility in order to participate in the wholesale electricity markets that are operated by independent system operators (ISOs). We propose a forward auction that a distribution system operator (DSO) can utilize to allocate distribution network access limits to DERAs. As long as the DERAs operate within their acquired limits, these limits define operating envelopes that guarantee distribution network security, thus defining a mechanism that requires no real-time intervention from the DSOs for DERAs to participate in the wholesale markets. Our auctions take the form of robust and risk-sensitive markets with bids/offers from DERAs and utility's operational costs. Properties of the proposed auction, e.g., resulting surpluses of DSO and the DERAs, and the auction prices, along with empirical performance studies, are presented.

Enhancing Microgrid Resilience with Green Hydrogen Storage

We consider the problem of hydrogen storage integration in microgrids to improve the electricity supply resilience. Nonlinear effects from electrochemical models of electrolyzers and fuel cells for hydrogen storage are considered, making scheduling under the nonlinear model intractable and the conventional linear approximation infeasible. A piecewise linear model approximation with feasibility projection is proposed, resulting in a computationally efficient model predictive control for hydrogen storage operation. Several resilience performance measures, such as loss-of-load, duration-of-outage, and system cost, are used in performance evaluation. Simulations for the proposed optimization demonstrated a 13%-48% reduction in duration-of-outage, a 6.4%-21.7% reduction in system cost, and a 95% reduction in loss-of-load for critical loads compared to the scheduling algorithm involving linear model approximation. The performance gap of the proposed optimization to the benchmark involving the accurate nonlinear electrochemical model is less than 1% in most metrics.

Convexifying Regulation Market Clearing of State-of-Charge Dependent Bid

We consider the problem of merchant storage participating in the regulation market with state-of-charge (SoC) dependent bids. Because storage can simultaneously provide regulation up and regulation down capacities, the market-clearing engine faces the computation challenge of evaluating storage costs under different regulation scenarios. One approach is to employ a bilevel optimization that minimizes the worst-case storage cost among all potential regulation events. However, subproblems of such a bilevel optimization are nonconvex, resulting in prohibitive computation challenges for the real-time clearing of the regulation market. We show that the complex nonconvex market clearing problem can be convexified by a simple restriction on the SoC-dependent bid, rendering the intractable market clearing computation to standard linear programs. Numerical simulations demonstrate that SoC-dependent bids satisfying the convexification conditions increase the profits of merchant storage owners by 12.32-77.38% compared with SoC-independent bids.

Some characterizations of BMO and Lipschitz spaces in the Schrödinger setting

We consider the Schrödinger operator $\mathcal{L}=-Δ+V$ on $\mathbb R^d$, $d\geq3$, where the nonnegative potential $V$ belongs to the reverse Hölder class $RH_s$ for some $s\geq d/2$. A real-valued function $f\in L^1_{\mathrm{loc}}(\mathbb R^d)$ belongs to the (BMO) space $\mathrm{BMO}_{ρ,θ}(\mathbb R^d)$ with $0<θ<\infty$ if \begin{equation*} \|f\|_{\mathrm{BMO}_{ρ,θ}} :=\sup_{B(x_0,r)}\bigg(1+\frac{r}{ρ(x_0)}\bigg)^{-θ}\bigg(\frac{1}{|B(x_0,r)|}\int_{B(x_0,r)}\big|f(x)-f_{B}\big|\,dx\bigg), \end{equation*} where the supremum is taken over all balls $B(x_0,r)\subset\mathbb R^d$, $ρ(\cdot)$ is the critical radius function in the Schrödinger context and \begin{equation*} f_{B}:=\frac{1}{|B(x_0,r)|}\int_{B(x_0,r)}f(y)\,dy. \end{equation*} A real-valued function $f\in L^1_{\mathrm{loc}}(\mathbb R^d)$ belongs to the (Lipschitz) space $\mathrm{Lip}_β^{ρ,θ}(\mathbb R^d)$ with $0<β<1$ and $0<θ<\infty$ if \begin{equation*} \|f\|_{\mathrm{Lip}_β^{ρ,θ}} :=\sup_{B(x_0,r)}\bigg(1+\frac{r}{ρ(x_0)}\bigg)^{-θ} \bigg(\frac{1}{|B(x_0,r)|^{1+β/d}}\int_{B(x_0,r)}\big|f(x)-f_{B}\big|\,dx\bigg). \end{equation*} It can be easily seen that $\mathrm{BMO}_{ρ,θ}(\mathbb R^d)$ (or $\mathrm{Lip}_β^{ρ,θ}(\mathbb R^d)$) is a function space which is larger than the classical BMO (or Lipschitz) space. In this paper, we give some new characterizations of BMO and Lipschitz spaces associated with the Schrödinger operator $\mathcal{L}$. We extend some previous works of Bongioanni--Harboure--Salinas and Liu--Sheng to the weighted case. The classes of weights considered here are larger than the classical Muckenhoupt classes.

The STOIC2021 COVID-19 AI challenge: applying reusable training methodologies to private data

Challenges drive the state-of-the-art of automated medical image analysis. The quantity of public training data that they provide can limit the performance of their solutions. Public access to the training methodology for these solutions remains absent. This study implements the Type Three (T3) challenge format, which allows for training solutions on private data and guarantees reusable training methodologies. With T3, challenge organizers train a codebase provided by the participants on sequestered training data. T3 was implemented in the STOIC2021 challenge, with the goal of predicting from a computed tomography (CT) scan whether subjects had a severe COVID-19 infection, defined as intubation or death within one month. STOIC2021 consisted of a Qualification phase, where participants developed challenge solutions using 2000 publicly available CT scans, and a Final phase, where participants submitted their training methodologies with which solutions were trained on CT scans of 9724 subjects. The organizers successfully trained six of the eight Final phase submissions. The submitted codebases for training and running inference were released publicly. The winning solution obtained an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for discerning between severe and non-severe COVID-19 of 0.815. The Final phase solutions of all finalists improved upon their Qualification phase solutions.HSUXJM-TNZF9CHSUXJM-TNZF9C

LEMaRT: Label-Efficient Masked Region Transform for Image Harmonization

We present a simple yet effective self-supervised pre-training method for image harmonization which can leverage large-scale unannotated image datasets. To achieve this goal, we first generate pre-training data online with our Label-Efficient Masked Region Transform (LEMaRT) pipeline. Given an image, LEMaRT generates a foreground mask and then applies a set of transformations to perturb various visual attributes, e.g., defocus blur, contrast, saturation, of the region specified by the generated mask. We then pre-train image harmonization models by recovering the original image from the perturbed image. Secondly, we introduce an image harmonization model, namely SwinIH, by retrofitting the Swin Transformer [27] with a combination of local and global self-attention mechanisms. Pre-training SwinIH with LEMaRT results in a new state of the art for image harmonization, while being label-efficient, i.e., consuming less annotated data for fine-tuning than existing methods. Notably, on iHarmony4 dataset [8], SwinIH outperforms the state of the art, i.e., SCS-Co [16] by a margin of 0.4 dB when it is fine-tuned on only 50% of the training data, and by 1.0 dB when it is trained on the full training dataset.

Magnetic Real Chern Insulator in 2D Metal-Organic Frameworks

Real Chern insulators have attracted great interest, but so far, their material realization is limited to nonmagnetic crystals and to systems without spin-orbit coupling. Here, we reveal magnetic real Chern insulator (MRCI) state in a recently synthesized metal-organic framework material Co3(HITP)2. Its ground state with in-plane ferromagnetic ordering hosts a nontrivial real Chern number, enabled by the C2zT symmetry and robust against spin-orbit coupling. Distinct from previous nonmagnetic examples, the topological corner zero-modes of MRCI are spin-polarized. Furthermore, under small tensile strains, the material undergoes a topological phase transition from MRCI to a magnetic double-Weyl semimetal phase, via a pseudospin-1 critical state. Similar physics can also be found in closely related materials Mn3(HITP)2 and Fe3(HITP)2, which are also existing. Possible experimental detections and implications of an emerging magnetic flat band in the system are discussed.

Time-Reversal Even Charge Hall Effect from Twisted Interface Coupling

Under time-reversal symmetry, a linear charge Hall response is usually deemed to be forbidden by the Onsager relation. In this work, we discover a scenario for realizing a time-reversal even linear charge Hall effect in a non-isolated two-dimensional crystal allowed by time reversal symmetry. The restriction by Onsager relation is lifted by interfacial coupling with an adjacent layer, where the overall chiral symmetry requirement is fulfilled by a twisted stacking. We reveal the underlying band geometric quantity as the momentum-space vorticity of layer current. The effect is demonstrated in twisted bilayer graphene and twisted homobilayer transition metal dichalcogenides with a wide range of twist angles, which exhibit giant Hall ratios under experimentally practical conditions, with gate voltage controlled on-off switch. This work reveals intriguing Hall physics in chiral structures, and opens up a research direction of layertronics that exploits the quantum nature of layer degree of freedom to uncover exciting effects.

Convexifying Market Clearing of SoC-Dependent Bids from Merchant Storage Participants

State-of-charge (SoC) dependent bidding allows merchant storage participants to incorporate SoC-dependent operation and opportunity costs in a bid-based market clearing process. However, such a bid results in a non-convex cost function in the multi-interval economic dispatch and market clearing, limiting its implementation in practice. We show that a simple restriction on the bidding format removes the non-convexity, making the multi-interval dispatch of SoC-dependent bids a standard convex piece-wise linear program.

DSO-DERA Coordination for the Wholesale Market Participation of Distributed Energy Resources

We design a coordination mechanism between a distribution system operator (DSO) and distributed energy resource aggregators (DERAs) participating directly in the wholesale electricity market. Aimed at ensuring system reliability while providing open access to DERAs, the coordination mechanism includes a forward auction that allocates access limits to aggregators based on aggregators' bids that represent their benefits of aggregation. The proposed coordination mechanism results in decoupled DSO and DERAs operations that satisfy the network constraints, independent of the stochasticity of the renewables, wholesale real-time locational marginal prices, and individual DERA's aggregation policy. Optimal bidding strategies by competitive aggregators are also derived. The efficiency of the coordination mechanism and the locational price distribution at buses of a radial distribution grid are demonstrated for a 141-bus radial network.

V2X Misbehavior in Maneuver Sharing and Coordination Service: Considerations for Standardization

Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV) use sensors and wireless communication to improve road safety and efficiency. However, attackers may target Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication. Indeed, an attacker may send authenticated-but-wrong data to send false location information, alert incorrect events, or report a bogus object endangering safety of other CAVs. Standardization Development Organizations (SDO) are currently working on developing security standards against such attacks. Unfortunately, current standardization efforts do not include misbehavior specifications for advanced V2X services such as Maneuver Sharing and Coordination Service (MSCS). This work assesses the security of MSC Messages (MSCM) and proposes inputs for consideration in existing standards.

Revealing the role of tin fluoride additive in narrow bandgap Pb-Sn perovskites for highly efficient flexible all-perovskite tandem cells

Tin fluoride (SnF2) is an indispensable additive for high-efficiency Pb-Sn perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, the spatial distribution of SnF2 in the perovskite absorber is seldom investigated while essential for a comprehensive understanding of the exact role of the SnF2 additive. Herein, we revealed the spatial distribution of SnF2 additive and made structure-optoelectronic properties-flexible photovoltaic performance correlation. We observed the chemical transformation of SnF2 to a fluorinated oxy-phase on the Pb-Sn perovskite film surface, due to its rapid oxidation. In addition, at the buried perovskite interface, we detected and visualized the accumulation of F- ions. We found that the photoluminescence quantum yield of Pb-Sn perovskite reached the highest value with 10 mol% SnF2 in the precursor solution. When integrating the optimized absorber in flexible devices, we obtained the flexible Pb-Sn perovskite narrow bandgap (1.24 eV) solar cells with an efficiency of 18.5% and demonstrated 23.1%-efficient flexible 4-terminal all-perovskite tandem cells.
