Concavity principles for weighted marginals

We develop a general framework to study concavity properties of weighted marginals of $β$-concave functions on $\mathbb{R}^n$ via local methods. As a concrete implementation of our approach, we obtain a functional version of the dimensional Brunn-Minkowski inequality for rotationally invariant log-concave measures. Moreover, we derive a Prékopa-type concavity principle with rotationally invariant weights for even log-concave functions which encompasses the B-inequality.

Duality and Heat flow

We reveal the relation between the Legendre transform of convex functions and heat flow evolution, and how it applies to the functional Blaschke-Santalo inequality. We also describe local maximizers in this inequality.

On a Santaló point for Nakamura-Tsuji's Laplace transform inequality

Nakamura and Tsuji recently obtained an integral inequality involving a Laplace transform of even functions that implies, at the limit, the Blaschke-Santaló inequality in its functional form. Inspired by their method, based on the Fokker-Planck semi-group, we extend the inequality to non-even functions. We consider a well-chosen centering procedure by studying the infimum over translations in a double Laplace transform. This requires a new look on the existing methods and leads to several observations of independent interest on the geometry of the Laplace transform. Application to reverse hypercontractivity is also given.

Talagrand's influence inequality revisited

Let $\mathscr{C}_n=\{-1,1\}^n$ be the discrete hypercube equipped with the uniform probability measure $σ_n$. Talagrand's influence inequality (1994) asserts that there exists $C\in(0,\infty)$ such that for every $n\in\mathbb{N}$, every function $f:\mathscr{C}_n\to\mathbb{C}$ satisfies $$\mathrm{Var}_{σ_n}(f) \leq C \sum_{i=1}^n \frac{\|\partial_if\|_{L_2(σ_n)}^2}{1+\log\big(\|\partial_if\|_{L_2(σ_n)}/\|\partial_i f\|_{L_1(σ_n)}\big)}.$$ In this work, we undertake a systematic investigation of this and related inequalities via harmonic analytic and stochastic techniques and derive applications to metric embeddings. We prove that Talagrand's inequality extends, up to an additional doubly logarithmic factor, to Banach space-valued functions under the necessary assumption that the target space has Rademacher type 2 and that this doubly logarithmic term can be omitted if the target space admits an equivalent 2-uniformly smooth norm. These are the first vector-valued extensions of Talagrand's influence inequality. We also obtain a joint strengthening of results of Bakry-Meyer (1982) and Naor-Schechtman (2002) on the action of negative powers of the hypercube Laplacian on functions $f:\mathscr{C}_n\to E$, whose target space $E$ has nontrivial Rademacher type via a new vector-valued version of Meyer's multiplier theorem (1984). Inspired by Talagrand's influence inequality, we introduce a new metric invariant called Talagrand type and estimate it for Banach spaces with prescribed Rademacher or martingale type, Gromov hyperbolic groups and simply connected Riemannian manifolds of pinched negative curvature. Finally, we prove that Talagrand type is an obstruction to the bi-Lipschitz embeddability of nonlinear quotients of the hypercube $\mathscr{C}_n$, thus deriving new nonembeddability results for these finite metrics.

Discrete logarithmic Sobolev inequalities in Banach spaces

Let $\mathscr{C}_n=\{-1,1\}^n$ be the discrete hypercube equipped with the uniform probability measure $σ_n$. We prove that if $(E,\|\cdot\|_E)$ is a Banach space of finite cotype and $p\in[1,\infty)$, then every function $f:\mathscr{C}_n\to E$ satisfies the dimension-free vector-valued $L_p$ logarithmic Sobolev inequality $$\|f-\mathbb{E} f\|_{L_p(\log L)^{p/2}(E)} \leq \mathsf{K}_p(E) \left( \int_{\mathscr{C}_n} \Big\| \sum_{i=1}^n δ_i \partial_i f\Big\|_{L_p(E)}^p \, dσ_n(δ)\right)^{1/p}.$$ The finite cotype assumption is necessary for the conclusion to hold. This estimate is the hypercube counterpart of a result of Ledoux (1988) in Gauss space and the optimal vector-valued version of a deep inequality of Talagrand (1994). As an application, we use such vector-valued $L_p$ logarithmic Sobolev inequalities to derive new lower bounds for the bi-Lipschitz distortion of nonlinear quotients of the Hamming cube into Banach spaces with prescribed Rademacher type.

Improved log-concavity for rotationally invariant measures of symmetric convex sets

We prove that the (B) conjecture and the Gardner-Zvavitch conjecture are true for all log-concave measures that are rotationally invariant, extending previous results known for Gaussian measures. Actually, our result apply beyond the case of log-concave measures, for instance to Cauchy measures as well. For the proof, new sharp weighted Poincaré inequalities are obtained for even probability measures that are log-concave with respect to a rotationally invariant measure.

A Gaussian correlation inequality for plurisubharmonic functions

A positive correlation inequality is established for circular-invariant plurisubharmonic functions, with respect to complex Gaussian measures. The main ingredients of the proofs are the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup, and another natural semigroup associated to the Gaussian $\partial$-Laplacian.

Complex interpolation of $\mathbb{R}$-norms, duality and foliations

The complex method of interpolation, going back to Calderón and Coifman et al., on the one hand, and the Alexander-Wermer-Slodkowski theorem on polynomial hulls with convex fibers, on the other hand, are generalized to a method of interpolation of real (finite-dimensional) Banach spaces and of convex functions. The underlying duality in this method is given by the Legendre transform. Our results can also be interpreted as new properties of solutions of the homogeneous complex Monge-Ampère equation.

Plurisubharmonic geodesics and interpolating sets

We apply a notion of geodesics of plurisubharmonic functions to interpolation of compact subsets of $C^n$. Namely, two non-pluripolar, polynomially closed, compact subsets of $C^n$ are interpolated as level sets $L_t=\{z: u_t(z)=-1\}$ for the geodesic $u_t$ between their relative extremal functions with respect to any ambient bounded domain. The sets $L_t$ are described in terms of certain holomorphic hulls. In the toric case, it is shown that the relative Monge-Ampère capacities of $L_t$ satisfy a dual Brunn-Minkowski inequality.

Regularity of monotone transport maps between unbounded domains

The regularity of monotone transport maps plays an important role in several applications to PDE and geometry. Unfortunately, the classical statements on this subject are restricted to the case when the measures are compactly supported. In this note we show that, in several situations of interest, one can to ensure the regularity of monotone maps even if the measures may have unbounded supports.

New sharp Gagliardo-Nirenberg-Sobolev inequalities and an improved Borell-Brascamp-Lieb inequality

We propose a new Borell-Brascamp-Lieb inequality which leads to novel sharp Euclidean inequalities such as Gagliardo-Nirenberg-Sobolev inequalities in R^n and in the half-space R^n\_+. This gives a new bridge between the geometric pont of view of the Brunn-Minkowski inequality and the functional point of view of the Sobolev type inequalities. In this way we unify, simplify and results by S. Bobkov-M. Ledoux, M. del Pino-J. Dolbeault and B. Nazaret.

Complex Legendre duality

We introduce complex generalizations of the classical Legendre transform, operating on Kähler metrics on a compact complex manifold. These Legendre transforms give explicit local isometric symmetries for the Mabuchi metric on the space of Kähler metrics around any real analytic Kähler metric, answering a question originating in Semmes' work.

Transport proofs of weighted Poincaré inequalities for log-concave distributions

We prove, using optimal transport tools, weighted Poincar'e inequalities for log-concave random vectors satisfying some centering conditions. We recover by this way similar results by Klartag and Barthe-Cordero-Erausquin for log-concave random vectors with symmetries. In addition, we prove that the variance conjecture is true for increments of log-concave martingales.

Volume of the polar of random sets and shadow systems

We obtain optimal inequalities for the volume of the polar of random sets, generated for instance by the convex hull of independent random vectors in Euclidean space. Extremizers are given by random vectors uniformly distributed in Euclidean balls. This provides a random extension of the Blaschke-Santalo inequality which, in turn, can be derived by the law of large numbers. The method involves generalized shadow systems, their connection to Busemann type inequalities, and how they interact with functional rearrangement inequalities.
