Moment Measures

With any convex function F on a finite-dimensional linear space X such that F goes to infinity at infinity, we associate a Borel measure on the dual space X*. This measure is obtained by pushing forward the measure exp(-F(x))dx under the differential of F. We propose a class of convex functions - the essentially-continuous, convex functions - for which the above correspondence is in fact a bijection onto the class of finite Borel measures whose barycenter is at the origin and whose support linearly spans the entire space X*. The construction is related to toric Kahler-Einstein metrics in complex geometry, to Prékopa's inequality, and to the Minkowski problem in convex geometry.

Asymmetric Covariance Estimates of Brascamp-Lieb Type and Related Inequalities for Log-concave Measures

An inequality of Brascamp and Lieb provides a bound on the covariance of two functions with respect to log-concave measures. The bound estimates the covariance by the product of the $L^2$ norms of the gradients of the functions, where the magnitude of the gradient is computed using an inner product given by the inverse Hessian matrix of the potential of the log-concave measure. Menz and Otto \cite{OM} proved a variant of this with the two $L^2$ norms replaced by $L^1$ and $L^\infty$ norms, but only for $\R^1$. We prove a generalization of both by extending these inequalities to $L^p$ and $L^q$ norms and on $\R^n$, for any $n\geq 1$. We also prove an inequality for integrals of divided differences of functions in terms of integrals of their gradients.

Interpolations, convexity and geometric inequalities

We survey some interplays between spectral estimates of Hörmander-type, degenerate Monge-Ampère equations and geometric inequalities related to log-concavity such as Brunn-Minkowski, Santaló or Busemann inequalities.

The geometry of Euclidean convolution inequalities and entropy

The goal of this note is to show that some convolution type inequalities from Harmonic Analysis and Information Theory, such as Young's convolution inequality (with sharp constant), Nelson's hypercontractivity of the Hermite semi-group or Shannon's inequality, can be reduced to a simple geometric study of frames of $\R^2$. We shall derive directly entropic inequalities, which were recently proved to be dual to the Brascamp-Lieb convolution type inequalities.

Subadditivity of the entropy and its relation to Brascamp-Lieb type inequalities

We prove a general duality result showing that a Brascamp--Lieb type inequality is equivalent to an inequality expressing subadditivity of the entropy, with a complete correspondence of best constants and cases of equality. This open a new approach to the proof of Brascamp--Lieb type inequalities, via subadditivity of the entropy. We illustrate the utility of this approach by proving a general inequality expressing the subadditivity property of the entropy on $\R^n$, and fully determining the cases of equality. As a consequence of the duality mentioned above, we obtain a simple new proof of the classical Brascamp--Lieb inequality, and also a fully explicit determination of all of the cases of equality. We also deduce several other consequences of the general subadditivity inequality, including a generalization of Hadamard's inequality for determinants. Finally, we also prove a second duality theorem relating superadditivity of the Fisher information and a sharp convolution type inequality for the fundamental eigenvalues of Schrödinger operators. Though we focus mainly on the case of random variables in $\R^n$ in this paper, we discuss extensions to other settings as well.
