Interior and boundary regularity results for strongly nonhomogeneous $p,q$-fractional problems

In this article, we deal with the global regularity of weak solutions to a class of problems involving the fractional $(p,q)$-Laplacian, denoted by $(-Δ)^{s_1}_{p}+(-Δ)^{s_2}_{q}$, for $s_2, s_1\in (0,1)$ and $1<p,q<\infty$. We establish completely new Hölder continuity results, up to the boundary, for the weak solutions to fractional $(p,q)$-problems involving singular as well as regular nonlinearities. Moreover, as applications to boundary estimates, we establish new Hopf type maximum principle and strong comparison principle in both situations.

Dynamics of QCD Matter -- current status

In this article, there are 18 sections discussing various current topics in the field of relativistic heavy-ion collisions and related phenomena, which will serve as a snapshot of the current state of the art. Section 1 reviews experimental results of some recent light-flavored particle production data from ALICE collaboration. Other sections are mostly theoretical in nature. Very strong but transient magnetic field created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions could have important observational consequences. This has generated a lot of theoretical activity in the last decade. Sections 2, 7, 9, 10 and 11 deal with the effects of the magnetic field on the properties of the QCD matter. There are several unanswered questions about the QCD phase diagram. Sections 3, 11 and 18 discuss various aspects of the QCD phase diagram and phase transitions. Recent years have witnessed interesting developments in foundational aspects of hydrodynamics and their application to heavy-ion collisions. Sections 12, 15, 16 and 17 of this article probe some aspects of this exciting field. Transport coefficients together with their temperature- and density-dependence, are essential inputs in hydrodynamical calculations. Sections 5, 8 and 14 deal with calculation/estimation of various transport coefficients (shear and bulk viscosity, thermal conductivity, relaxation times, etc.) of quark matter and hadronic matter. Sections 4, 6 and 13 deals with interesting new developments in the field. Section 4 discusses color dipole gluon distribution function at small transverse momentum in the form of a series of Bells polynomials. Section 6 discusses the properties of Higgs boson in the quark gluon plasma using Higgs-quark interaction. Section 13 discusses modification of coalescence model to incorporate viscous corrections and application of this model.

QUARC: Quaternion Multi-Modal Fusion Architecture For Hate Speech Classification

Hate speech, quite common in the age of social media, at times harmless but can also cause mental trauma to someone or even riots in communities. Image of a religious symbol with derogatory comment or video of a man abusing a particular community, all become hate speech with its every modality (such as text, image, and audio) contributing towards it. Models based on a particular modality of hate speech post on social media are not useful, rather, we need models like multi-modal fusion models that consider both image and text while classifying hate speech. Text-image fusion models are heavily parameterized, hence we propose a quaternion neural network-based model having additional fusion components for each pair of modalities. The model is tested on the MMHS150K twitter dataset for hate speech classification. The model shows an almost 75% reduction in parameters and also benefits us in terms of storage space and training time while being at par in terms of performance as compared to its real counterpart.

Unbalanced fractional elliptic problems with exponential nonlinearity: subcritical and critical cases

This paper deals with the qualitative analysis of solutions to the following $(p,q)$-fractional equation: \begin{equation*} \begin{array}{rllll} (-Δ)^{s_1}_{p}u+(-Δ)^{s_2}_{q}u+V(x) \big(|u|^{p-2}u+|u|^{q-2}u\big) = K(x)\frac{f(u)}{|x|^\ba} \; \text{ in } \mb R^N, \end{array} \end{equation*} \noi where $1< q< p$, $0<s_2\leq s_1<1$, $ps_1=N$, $\ba\in[0,N)$, and $V,K:\mb R^N\to\mb R$, $f:\mb R\to \mb R$ are continuous functions satisfying some natural hypotheses. We are concerned both with the case when $f$ has a subcritical growth and with the critical framework with respect to the exponential nonlinearity. By combining a Moser-Trudinger type inequality for fractional Sobolev spaces with Schwarz symmetrization techniques and related variational methods, we prove the existence of nonnegative solutions.

Relaxation dynamics of the three-dimensional Coulomb Glass model

In this paper, we analyze the dynamics of the Coulomb Glass lattice model in three dimensions near a local equilibrium state by using mean-field approximations. We specifically focus on understanding the role of localization length ($ξ$) and the temperature ($T$) in the regime where the system is not far from equilibrium. We use the eigenvalue distribution of the dynamical matrix to characterize relaxation laws as a function of localization length at low temperatures. The variation of the minimum eigenvalue of the dynamical matrix with temperature and localization length is discussed numerically and analytically. Our results demonstrate the dominant role played by the localization length on the relaxation laws. For very small localization lengths we find a crossover from exponential relaxation at long times to a logarithmic decay at intermediate times. No logarithmic decay at the intermediate times is observed for large localization lengths.

Bremsstrahlung emission and plasma characterization driven by moderately relativistic laser-plasma interactions

Relativistic electrons generated by the interaction of petawatt-class short laser pulses with solid targets can be used to generate bright X-rays via bremsstrahlung. The efficiency of laser energy transfer into these electrons depends on multiple parameters including the focused intensity and pre-plasma level. This paper reports experimental results from the interaction of a high intensity petawatt-class glass laser pulses with solid targets at a maximum intensity of $10^{19}$ W/cm$^2$. In-situ measurements of specularly reflected light are used to provide an upper bound of laser absorption and to characterize focused laser intensity, the pre-plasma level and the generation mechanism of second harmonic light. The measured spectrum of electrons and bremsstrahlung radiation provide information about the efficiency of laser energy transfer.

A qualitative study of (p,q) Singular parabolic equations: local existence, Sobolev regularity and asymptotic behaviour

The purpose of the article is to study the existence, regularity, stabilization and blow up results of weak solution to the following parabolic $(p,q)$-singular equation: \begin{equation*} (P_t)\; \left\{\begin{array}{rllll} u_t-Δ_{p}u -Δ_{q}u & = \vth \; u^{-\de}+ f(x,u), \; u>0 \text{ in } \Om\times (0,T), \\ u&=0 \quad \text{ on } \pa\Om\times (0,T), u(x,0)&= u_0(x) \; \text{ in }\Om, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $\Om$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$ with $C^2$ boundary $\pa\Om$, $1 0$, $N\ge 2$ and $\vth>0$ is a parameter. Moreover, we assume that $f:\Om\times [0,\infty) \to \mb R$ is a bounded below Carathéodory function, locally Lipschitz with respect to the second variable uniformly in $x\in\Om$ and $u_0\in L^\infty(\Om)\cap W^{1,p}_0(\Om)$. We distinguish the cases as $q$-subhomogeneous and $q$-superhomogeneous depending on the growth of $f$ (hereafter we will drop the term $q$). In the subhomogeneous case, we prove the existence and uniqueness of the weak solution to problem $(P_t)$ for $\de<2+1/(p-1)$. For this, we first study the stationary problems corresponding to $(P_t)$ by using the method of sub and super solutions and subsequently employing implicit Euler method, we obtain the existence of a solution to $(P_t)$. Furthermore, in this case, we prove the stabilization result, that is, the solution $u(t)$ of $(P_t)$ converges to $u_\infty$, the unique solution to the stationary problem, in $L^\infty(\Om)$ as $t\ra\infty$. For the superhomogeneous case, we prove the local existence theorem by taking help of nonlinear semigroup theory. Subsequently, we prove finite time blow up of solution to problem $(P_t)$ for small parameter $\vartheta>0$ in the case $\de\leq 1$ and for all $\vth>0$ in the case $\de>1$.

Thermoelectric transport coefficients of quark matter

A thermal gradient and/or a chemical potential gradient in a conducting medium can lead to an electric field, an effect known as thermoelectric effect or Seebeck effect. In the context of heavy-ion collisions, we estimate the thermoelectric transport coefficients for quark matter within the ambit of the Nambu-Jona Lasinio (NJL) model. We estimate the thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and the Seebeck coefficient of hot and dense quark matter. These coefficients are calculated using the relativistic Boltzmann transport equation within relaxation time approximation. The relaxation times for the quarks are estimated from the quark-quark and quark-antiquark scattering through in-medium meson exchange within the NJL model.

Singular elliptic problems with unbalanced growth and critical exponent

In this article, we study the existence and multiplicity of solutions of the following $(p,q)$-Laplace equation with singular nonlinearity: \begin{equation*} \left\{\begin{array}{rllll} -Δ_{p}u-\baΔ_{q}u & = \la u^{-\de}+ u^{r-1}, \ u>0, \ \text{ in } \Om \\ u&=0 \quad \text{ on } \pa\Om, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $\Om$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with smooth boundary, $1< q< p p$ and $\la,\, \ba>0$ are parameters. We prove existence, multiplicity and regularity of weak solutions of $(P_\la)$ for suitable range of $\la$. We also prove the global existence result for problem $(P_\la)$.

An exact analytical scheme using a new potential to solve one-dimensional quantum systems

We propose an exact method for solving a one-dimensional Schrödinger equation. An arbitrary potential is represented by the collection of short-width potentials. For building the collection scheme, a new solvable potential is introduced. It is based on the simple expansion of the wavefunction of the introduced potential. The illustration of the scheme is done by reproducing the results of the rectangular potential. The scheme has computational advantages and the transmission properties, eigenenergies can be calculated efficiently. The presented scheme is compared with the other similar schemes in terms of computational complexity, analytical solubility, etc.. A \textit{Mathematica} code is provided in the supplementary file that solves the Schrödinger equation with arbitrary potential function $V(x)$ and effective mass $m(x)$.

Additivity of Reverse Derivable Maps

Let $R$ be any ring containing a non-tivial idempotent element $e$. Let $\Im: R\rightarrow R$ be a mapping such that $\Im(ab)=\Im(b)a+b\Im(a)$ for all $a,b\in R$. In this note, our aim is to show that under some suitable restrictions imposed on $R,$ $\Im$ is additive.

Unbalanced $(p,2)$-fractional problems with critical growth

We study the existence, multiplicity and regularity results of non-negative solutions of following doubly nonlocal problem: $$ (P_\la) \left\{ \begin{array}{lr}\ds \quad (-Δ)^{s_1}u+\ba (-Δ)^{s_2}_{p}u = \la a(x)|u|^{q-2}u+ \left(\int_{\Om}\frac{|u(y)|^r}{|x-y|^μ}~dy\right)|u|^{r-2} u \quad \text{in}\; \Om, \quad \quad\quad \quad u =0\quad \text{in} \quad \mb R^n\setminus \Om, \end{array} \right. $$ where $\Om\subset\mb R^n$ is a bounded domain with $C^2$ boundary $\pa\Om$, $0 2 s_1$, $1< q 0$ and $a\in L^{\frac{d}{d-q}}(\Om)$, for some $q<d<2^{*}_{s_1}:=\frac{2n}{n-2s_1}$, is a sign changing function. We prove that each nonnegative weak solution of $(P_\la)$ is bounded. Furthermore, we obtain some existence and multiplicity results using Nehari manifold method.

Investigation of the phase separation property in La$_{0.2}$Pr$_{0.4}$Ca$_{0.4}$MnO$_3$ manganite

We report a comprehensive investigation of La0.2Pr0.4Ca0.4MnO3 to clarify the micrometre scale phase separation phenomenon in the mixed valent manganite (La,Pr,Ca)MnO3. The compound shows multiple magnetic transitions, in which the charge-ordered state is converted into a ferromagnetic state in steps with the application of a magnetic field. The ac susceptibility measurements show that the glassy transition at low temperatures does not depend on the frequency, thus indicating the absence of any spin glass behaviour. Magnetization as well as heat capacity measurements indicate that this low temperature transition is magnetic field dependent. The field dependent resistivity at 2K shows a sharp drop indicating that the sample behaviour changes from a high resistive state to a low resistive state, corroborating the conversion of charge-ordered insulating (COI) phase to a ferromagnetic metallic (FMM) phase. Our results point towards the existence of phase separation, rigidity of the low temperature glassy-like phase as well as the conversion of COI phase to FMM phase by the application of magnetic fields.

Chiral susceptibility in Nambu Jona Lasinio model: a Wigner function approach

We estimate here chiral susceptibility at finite temperature within the framework of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model (NJL) using the Wigner function approach. We also estimate it in the presence of chiral chemical potential ($μ_5$) as well as a non vanishing magnetic field ($B$). We use medium separation regularization scheme (MSS) to calculate the chiral condensate and corresponding susceptibility. It is observed that for a fixed value of chiral chemical potential ($μ_5$), transition temperature increases with the magnetic field. While for the fixed value of the magnetic field, transition temperature decreases with chiral chemical potential. For a strong magnetic field, we observe non degeneracy in susceptibility for up and down type quarks.

Magnetism tailored by mechanical strain engineering in PrVO$_3$ thin films

Transition-metal oxides with an ABO$_3$ perovskite structure exhibit strongly entangled structural and electronic degrees of freedom and thus, one expects to unveil exotic phases and properties by acting on the lattice through various external stimuli. Using the Jahn-Teller active praseodymium vanadate Pr$^{3+}$V$^{3+}$O$_3$ compound as a model system, we show that PrVO$_3$ Néel temperature T$_N$ can be raised by 40 K with respect to the bulk when grown as thin films. Using advanced experimental techniques, this enhancement is unambiguously ascribed to a tetragonality resulting from the epitaxial compressive strain experienced by the films. First-principles simulations not only confirm experimental results, but they also reveal that the strain promotes an unprecedented orbital-ordering of the V$^{3+}$ d electrons, strongly favouring antiferromagnetic interactions. These results show that an accurate control of structural aspects is the key for unveiling unexpected phases in oxides.

Regularity and multiplicity results for fractional $(p,q)$-Laplacian equations

This article deals with the study of the following nonlinear doubly nonlocal equation: \begin{equation*} (-Δ)^{s_1}_{p}u+\ba(-Δ)^{s_2}_{q}u = \la a(x)|u|^{δ-2}u+ b(x)|u|^{r-2} u,\; \text{ in }\; \Om, \; u=0 \text{ on } \mathbb{R}^n\setminus \Om, \end{equation*} where $\Om$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^n$ with smooth boundary, $1< \de \le q\leq p p s_1$ and $\la, \ba>0$ are parameters. Here $a\in L^{\frac{r}{r-\de}}(\Om)$ and $b\in L^{\infty}(\Om)$ are sign changing functions. We prove the $L^\infty$ estimates, weak Harnack inequality and Interior Hölder regularity of the weak solutions of the above problem in the subcritical case $(r<p_{s_1}^*).$ Also, by analyzing the fibering maps and minimizing the energy functional over suitable subsets of the Nehari manifold, we prove existence and multiplicity of weak solutions to above convex-concave problem. In case of $\de=q$, we show the existence of solution.

The Capacity of Private Information Retrieval from Uncoded Storage Constrained Databases

Private information retrieval (PIR) allows a user to retrieve a desired message from a set of databases without revealing the identity of the desired message. The replicated databases scenario was considered by Sun and Jafar, 2016, where $N$ databases can store the same $K$ messages completely. A PIR scheme was developed to achieve the optimal download cost given by $\left(1+ \frac{1}{N}+ \frac{1}{N^{2}}+ \cdots + \frac{1}{N^{K-1}}\right)$. In this work, we consider the problem of PIR from storage constrained databases. Each database has a storage capacity of $μKL$ bits, where $L$ is the size of each message in bits, and $μ\in [1/N, 1]$ is the normalized storage. On one extreme, $μ=1$ is the replicated databases case. On the other hand, when $μ= 1/N$, then in order to retrieve a message privately, the user has to download all the messages from the databases achieving a download cost of $1/K$. We aim to characterize the optimal download cost versus storage trade-off for any storage capacity in the range $μ\in [1/N, 1]$. For any $(N,K)$, we show that the optimal trade-off between storage, $μ$, and the download cost, $D(μ)$, is given by the lower convex hull of the $N$ pairs $\left(μ= \frac{t}{N},D(μ) = \left(1+ \frac{1}{t}+ \frac{1}{t^{2}}+ \cdots + \frac{1}{t^{K-1}}\right)\right)$ for $t=1,2,\ldots, N$. To prove this result, we first present the storage constrained PIR scheme for any $(N,K)$. We next obtain a general lower bound on the download cost for PIR, which is valid for the following storage scenarios: replicated or storage constrained, coded or uncoded, and fixed or optimized. We then specialize this bound using the uncoded storage assumption to obtain lower bounds matching the achievable download cost of the storage constrained PIR scheme for any value of the available storage.

Effect of B-site bismuth doping on magnetic and transport properties of La0.5Ca0.5Mn1-xBixO3 thin films

The magnetic properties in manganite have been found to be highly sensitive to the doping and structural manipulations. Here, we report the effect of B-site bismuth doping on the magnetic and transport properties in La0.5Ca0.5Mn1-xBixO3 (LCMBO) thin films (for x = 0, 0.02 and 0.05) for high-efficiency spintronics devices. For thin film of LCMBO (with x = 0.02), a significant increase in the magnetization and ferromagnetic ordering temperature (TC) are observed. Also, about 98% magnetoresistance (MR) and unusually large (~ 42%) anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) is observed at 50 K in the same LCMBO (for x = 0.02) thin film. This observed improvement in TC, MR and AMR in LCMBO (with x = 0.02) thin film may be attributed to the modulation of the trapped electrons through JT-distortions due to the replacement of Mn+3 ions by larger Bi+3 ions. With further increase in bismuth doping (for x = 0.05) at the B-site, a significant decrease in magnetization and TC have been observed.
