The L_\infty-deformation complex of diagrams of algebras

The deformation complex of an algebra over a colored PROP P is defined in terms of a minimal (or, more generally, cofibrant) model of P. It is shown that it carries the structure of an L_\infty-algebra which induces a graded Lie bracket on cohomology. As an example, the L_\infty-algebra structure on the deformation complex of an associative algebra morphism g, with the underlying cochain complex isomorphic to the Gerstenhaber-Schack complex of g, is constructed. Another example is the deformation complex of a Lie algebra morphism. The last example is the diagram describing two mutually inverse morphisms of vector spaces. Its L_\infty-deformation complex has a nontrivial constant term. Explicit formulas for the L_\infty-operations in the above examples are given. A typical deformation complex of a diagram of algebras is a fully-fledged L_\infty-algebra with nontrivial higher operations.

Module Hom-algebras

We study a twisted version of module algebras called module Hom-algebras. It is shown that module algebras deform into module Hom-algebras via endomorphisms. As an example, we construct certain q-deformations of the usual sl(2)-action on the affine plane.

Higher dimensional algebras via colored PROPs

Starting from any unital colored PROP $P$, we define a category $P(P)$ of shapes called $P$-propertopes. Presheaves on $P(P)$ are called $P$-propertopic sets. For $0 \leq n \leq \infty$ we define and study $n$-time categorified $P$-algebras as $P$-propertopic sets with some lifting properties. Taking appropriate PROPs $P$, we obtain higher categorical versions of polycategories, 2-fold monoidal categories, topological quantum field theories, and so on.

Deformation bicomplex of module-algebras

The deformation bicomplex of a module-algebra over a bialgebra is constructed. It is then applied to study algebraic deformations in which both the module structure and the algebra structure are deformed. The cases of module-coalgebras, comodule-(co)algebras, and (co)module-bialgebras are also considered.

Brace operations and Deligne's Conjecture for module-algebras

It is observed that Kaygun's Hopf-Hochschild cochain complex for a module-algebra is a brace algebra with multiplication. As a result, (i) an analogue of Deligne's Conjecture holds for module-algebras, and (ii) the Hopf-Hochschild cohomology of a module-algebra has a Gerstenhaber algebra structure.

Cohomology and deformation of module-algebras

An algebraic deformation theory of module-algebras over a bialgebra is constructed. The cases of module-coalgebras, comodule-algebras, and comodule-coalgebras are also considered.

Gerstenhaber structure and Deligne's conjecture for Loday algebras

A method for establishing a Gerstenhaber algebra structure on the cohomology of Loday-type algebras is presented. This method is then applied to dendriform dialgebras and three types of trialgebras introduced by Loday and Ronco. Along the way, our results are combined with a result of McClure-Smith to prove an analogue of Deligne's conjecture for Loday algebras.

Cohomology of lambda-rings

A cohomology theory for lambda-rings is developed. This is then applied to study deformations of lambda-rings.

Loop structures on the homotopy type of S^3 revisited

We observe that the Rector invariants classifying the genus of BS^3 show up in (orthogonal and unitary) K-theory. We then use this knowledge to show purely algebraically how the K-theory of the spaces in the genus of BS^3 differ. This provides new insights into a result of Notbohm in the case of BS^3.

Deformation theory of modules

Algebraic deformations of modules over a ring are considered. The resulting theory closely resembles Gerstenhaber's deformation theory of associative algebras.

On lambda-rings and topological realization

It is shown that most possibly truncated power series rings admit uncountably many filtered lambda-ring structures. The question of how many of these filtered lambda-ring structures are topologically realizable by the K-theory of torsionfree spaces is also considered for truncated polynomial rings.
