Exceptional points and unitary evolution of the physical solutions

An example of exceptional points in the continuous spectrum of a real, pseudo-Hermitian Hamiltonian of von Neumann-Wigner type is presented and discussed. Remarkably, these exceptional points are associated with a double pole in the normalization factor of the Jost eigenfunctions normalized to unit flux at infinity. At the exceptional points, the two unnormalized Jost eigenfunctions are no longer linearly independent but coalesce to give rise to two Jordan cycles of generalized bound state eigenfunctions embedded in the continuum and a Jordan block representation of the Hamiltonian. The regular scattering eigenfunction vanishes at the exceptional point and the irregular scattering eigenfunction has a double pole at that point. In consequence, the time evolution of the regular scattering eigenfunction is unitary, while the time evolution of the irregular scattering eigenfunction is pseudounitary. The scattering matrix is a regular analytical function of the wave number $k$ for all $k$ including the exceptional points.

Weak Quasielastic Production of Hyperons and Threshold Production of Two Pions

We have studied quasielastic charged current hyperon production induced by $\barν_μ$ on free nucleon and the nucleons bound inside the nucleus and the results are presented for several nuclear targets like $^{40}Ar$, $^{56}Fe$ and $^{208}Pb$. The hyperon-nucleon transition form factors are determined from neutrino-nucleon scattering and semileptonic decays of neutron and hyperons using SU(3) symmetry. The nuclear medium effects(NME) due to Fermi motion and final state interaction(FSI) effect due to hyperon-nucleon scattering have been taken into account. Also we have studied two pion production at threshold induced by neutrinos off nucleon targets. The contribution of nucleon, pion, and contact terms are calculated using Lagrangian given by nonlinear $σ$ model. The contribution of the Roper resonance has also been taken into account. The numerical results for the cross sections are presented and compared with the experimental results from ANL and BNL.

$B\to ρ$ semileptonic decays and $|V_{ub}|$

We reevaluate the $B\toρ\,l^+ν_l$ decay width as a full $B\toππ\,l^+ν_l$ four-particle decay, in which the two final pions are produced via an intermediate $ρ$ meson. The decay width can be written as a convolution of the $B\toρ\,l^+ν_l$ decay width, for an off-shell $ρ$, with the $ρ\toππ$ line shape. This allows to fully incorporate the effects of the finite $ρ$ meson width. As shown, consideration of the $ρ$ meson width effects increase the $|V_{ub}|$ value by some 8%, rendering it in better agreement with the determination based in the $B\toπ$ decay. We take the $q^2$ dependence of the $B\to ρ$ semileptonic form factors from a dispersive Omnès representation. The Omnès subtraction constants and the overall normalization parameter $|V_{ub}|$ are fitted to light cone sum rules and lattice QCD theoretical form-factor calculations, in the low and high $q^2$ regions respectively, together to the CLEO, BaBar and Belle experimental partial branching fraction distributions. The extracted value from this global fit is $|V_{ub}|=(3.12\pm 0.13)\times 10^{-3}$, in agreement with the average $B\to π$ exclusive value $|V_{ub}|=(3.23\pm 0.31)\times 10^{-3}$ quoted by the Particle Data Group. The extracted value increases to $|V_{ub}|=(3.51\pm 0.16)\times 10^{-3}$ if only the most recent Belle Collaboration data is used. This latter value is in agreement with different theoretical determinations based in the $B\toπ$ semileptonic decay and the values obtained by the CKMfitter and UTfit groups. In any case a clear tension with the $|V_{ub}|$ value extracted from inclusive semileptonic $b\to u$ decays still persists.

$\bar B_s\to K$ semileptonic decay from an Omnès improved nonrelativistic quark model

We study the $f^+$ form factor for the $\bar B_s\to K^+\ell^-\barν_\ell$ semileptonic decay in a nonrelativistic quark model. The valence quark contribution is supplemented with a $\bar B^*$-pole term that dominates the high $q^2$ region. To extend the quark model predictions from its region of applicability near $q^2_{\rm max}=(M_{B_s}-M_K)^2$, we use a multiply-subtracted Omnès dispersion relation. We fit the subtraction constants to a combined input from previous light cone sum rule results in the low $q^2$ region and the quark model results (valence plus $\bar B^*$-pole) in the high $q^2$ region. From this analysis, we obtain $Γ(\bar B_s\to K^+\ell^-\barν_\ell)=(5.47^{+0.54}_{-0.46})|V_{ub}|^2\times 10^{-9}\,{\rm MeV}$, which is about 10% and 20% higher than predictions based on Lattice QCD and QCD light cone sum rules respectively.

$\bar B_s\to K$ semileptonic decay from an Omnès improved constituent quark model

We study the $f^+$ form factor for the semileptonic $\bar B_s\to K^+\ell^-\barν_\ell$ decay in a constituent quark model. The valence quark estimate is supplemented with the contribution from the $\bar B^*$ pole that dominates the high $q^2$ region. We use a multiply-subtracted Omnès dispersion relation to extend the quark model predictions from its region of applicability near $q^2_{\rm max}=(M_{B_s}-M_K)^2\sim 23.75$ GeV$^2$ to all $q^2$ values accessible in the physical decay. To better constrain the dependence of $f^+$ on $q^2$, we fit the subtraction constants to a combined input from previous light cone sum rule [Phys. Rev. D 78 (2008) 054015] and the present quark model results. From this analysis, we obtain $Γ(\bar B_s\to K^+\ell^-\barν_\ell)=(5.45^{+0.83}_{-0.80})|V_{ub}|^2\times 10^{-9}\,{\rm MeV}$, which is about 20\% higher than the prediction based only on QCD light cone sum rule estimates. Differences are much larger for the $f^+$ form factor in the region above $q^2=15$ GeV$^2$.

Pion production in neutrino-nucleus collisions

We compare our pion production results with recent MiniBooNE data measured in mineral oil. Our total cross sections lie below experimental data for neutrino energies above 1 GeV. Differential cross sections show our model produces too few high energy pions in the forward direction as compared to data. The agreement with experiment improves by artificially removing pion final state interaction.

B decays into radially excited charmed mesons

It has been recently argued that some longstanding problems in semileptonic B decays can be solved provided the branching ratio for the $B\to D^{\prime(\ast)}$ semileptonic decays are large enough. We have studied these decays in a constituent quark model which has been successful in describing semileptonic and non-leptonic B decays into orbitally excited charmed mesons. Our results do not confirm the hypothesis of large branching ratios for the $B\to D^{\prime(\ast)}$ semileptonic decays. In addition, we calculate the non-leptonic $B\to D'π$ decays which can provide an independent test of the form factors involved in the $B\to D^{\prime(\ast)}$ reactions.

Single pion production in neutrino nucleus scattering

We study one pion production in both charged and neutral current neutrino nucleus scattering for neutrino energies below 2 GeV. We use a theoretical model for one pion production at the nucleon level that we correct for medium effects. The results are incorporated into a cascade program that apart from production also includes the pion final state interaction inside the nucleus. Besides, in some specific channels coherent pion production is also possible and we evaluate its contribution as well. Our results for total and differential cross sections are compared with recent data from the MiniBooNE Collaboration. The model provides an overall acceptable description of data, better for NC than for CC channels, although theory is systematically below data. Differential cross sections, folded with the full neutrino flux, show that most of the missing pions lie on the forward direction and at high energies.

One-pion production in neutrino-nucleus collisions

We use our model for neutrino pion production on the nucleon to study pion production on a nucleus. The model is conveniently modified to include in-medium corrections and its validity is extended up to 2 GeV neutrino energies by the inclusion of new resonant contributions in the production process. Our results are compared with recent MiniBooNE data measured in mineral oil. Our total cross sections are below data for neutrino energies above 1 GeV. As with other theoretical calculations, the agreement with data improves if we neglect pion final state interaction. This is also the case for differential cross sections convoluted over the neutrino flux.

A nonrelativistic quark model evaluation of exclusive $b\to c$ semileptonic decay of triply heavy baryons and $c\to s,d$ semileptonic decay of $cb$ baryons

We present results for exclusive $b\to c$ semileptonic decays of ground state triply-heavy baryons and for semileptonic $c\to s,d$ decays of doubly heavy ground state $cb$ baryons. In both cases, we have derived for the first time heavy quark spin symmetry relations for the hadronic amplitudes near zero recoil. Though strictly valid in the limit of very large heavy quark masses and near zero recoil, they turn out to be reasonable accurate for the whole available phase space in these decays and for the actual heavy quark masses we use. With these relations we have made approximate, but model independent, predictions for ratios of decay widths. In the case of spin-1/2 $cb$ baryons, we find that hyperfine mixing in the wave function has a great impact on their $c\to s,d$ decay widths.

Exclusive $c\to s,d$ semileptonic decays of ground-state spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 doubly heavy $cb$ baryons

We evaluate exclusive semileptonic decays of ground-state spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 doubly heavy $cb$ baryons driven by a $c\to s,d$ transition at the quark level. We check our results for the form factors against heavy quark spin symmetry constraints obtained in the limit of very large heavy quark masses and near zero recoil. Based on those constraints we make model independent, though approximate, predictions for ratios of decay widths.

Triply Heavy Baryons and Heavy Quark Spin Symmetry

We study the semileptonic $b\to c$ decays of the lowest-lying triply-heavy baryons made from $b$ and $c$ quarks in the limit $m_b, m_c \gg Λ_\mathrm{QCD}$ and close to the zero recoil point. The separate heavy quark spin symmetries strongly constrain the matrix elements, leading to single form factors for $ccb\to ccc$, $bbc\to ccb$, and $bbb\to bbc$ baryon decays. We also study the effects on these systems of using a $Y$-shaped confinement potential, as suggested by lattice QCD results for the interaction between three static quarks.

Semileptonic $B$ and $B_{s}$ decays into orbitally excited charmed mesons

The BaBar Collaboration has recently reported products of branching fractions that include $B$ meson semileptonic decays into final states with charged and neutral $D_{1}(2420)$ and $D_{2}^{\ast}(2460)$, two narrow orbitally excited charmed mesons. We evaluate these branching fractions, together with those concerning $D_{0}^{\ast}(2400)$ and $D_{1}'(2430)$ mesons, within the framework of a constituent quark model. The calculation is performed in two steps, one of which involves a semileptonic decay and the other is mediated by a strong process. Our results are in agreement with the experimental data. We also extend the study to semileptonic decays of $B_{s}$ into orbitally excited charmed-strange mesons, providing predictions to the possible measurements to be carried out at LHC.

Exclusive $c\to s,d$ semileptonic decays of ground-state spin-1/2 doubly charmed baryons

We evaluate exclusive semileptonic decays of ground-state spin-1/2 doubly heavy charmed baryons driven by a $c\to s,d$ transition at the quark level. Our results for the form factors are consistent with heavy quark spin symmetry constraints which are valid in the limit of an infinitely massive charm quark and near zero recoil. Only a few exclusive semileptonic decay channels have been theoretically analyzed before. For those cases we find that our results are in a reasonable agreement with previous calculations.

Study of the strong $Σ_b\to Λ_b\, π$ and $Σ_b^{*}\to Λ_b\, π$ in a non-relativistic quark model

We present results for the strong widths corresponding to the $Σ_b\to Λ_b\, π$ and $Σ_b^{*}\to Λ_b\, π$ decays. We apply our model in Ref. Phys. Rev. D 72, 094022 (2005) where we previously studied the corresponding transitions in the charmed sector. Our non-relativistic constituent quark model uses wave functions that take advantage of the constraints imposed by heavy quark symmetry. Partial conservation of axial current hypothesis allows us to determine the strong vertices from an analysis of the axial current matrix elements.

New determination of the $N$-$Δ(1232)$ axial form factors from weak pion production and coherent pion production off nuclei at T2K and MiniBooNE energies revisited

We re-evaluate our model predictions in Phys. Rev. D 79, 013002 (2009) for different observables in neutrino induced coherent pion production. This comes as a result of the new improved fit to old bubble chamber data of the dominant axial C_5^A nucleon-to-Delta form factor. We find an increase of 20%-30% in the values for the total cross sections. Uncertainties induced by the errors in the determination of C_5^A are computed. Our new results turn out to be compatible within about $1σ$ with the former ones. We also stress the existing tension between the recent experimental determination of the σ(CC coh π^+)}/σ(NC coh π^0)} $ ratio by the SciBooNE Collaboration and the theoretical predictions.

Coherent pion production off nuclei at T2K and MiniBooNE energies revisited

As a result of a new improved fit to old bubble chamber data of the dominant axial C_5^A nucleon-to-Delta form factor, and due to the relevance of this form factor for neutrino induced coherent pion production, we re-evaluate our model predictions in Phys. Rev. D79, 013002 (2009) for different observables of the latter reaction. Central values for the total cross sections increase by 20% to 30%, while differential cross sections do not change their shape appreciably. Furthermore, we also compute the uncertainties on total, differential and flux averaged cross sections induced by the errors in the determination of C_5^A. Our new results turn out to be compatible within about 1 sigma with the former ones. Finally, we stress the existing tension between the recent experimental determination of the sigma(CC coh π^+)/sigma(NC coh π^0) ratio by the SciBooNE Collaboration and the theoretical predictions.

Hyperfine mixing in electromagnetic decay of doubly heavy $bc$ baryons

We investigate the role of hyperfine mixing in the electromagnetic decay of ground state doubly heavy $bc$ baryons. As in the case of a previous calculation on $b\to c$ semileptonic decays of doubly heavy baryons, we find large corrections to the electromagnetic decay widths due to this mixing. Contrary to the weak case just mentioned, we find here that one can not use electromagnetic width relations obtained in the infinite heavy quark mass limit to experimentally extract information on the admixtures in a model independent way.
