Weak localization correction to the FS interface resistance

The classical resistance of a contact between a ferromagnet (F) and a superconductor (S) acquires an additional contact term as compared to the contact between a ferromagnet and a normal metal. The necessity to match spin-polarized current in a ferromagnet to spin-less current in the superconductor results in the accumulation of non-equilibrium polarization near the F/S interface. In the present work, we show that the weak localization correction to the classical diffusion coefficient, $δD$, is dependent on the degree of polarization, with majority spins more likely to be reflected from the interface than minority spins. Taking into account the change in the spin polarized particle distribution in the F wire arising from $δD$, we calculate the weak localization correction to the F/S contact resistance.

The magnetic susceptibility of disordered non-diffusive mesoscopic systems

Disorder-induced spectral correlations of mesoscopic quantum systems in the non-diffusive regime and their effect on the magnetic susceptibility are studied. We perform impurity averaging for non-translational invariant systems by combining a diagrammatic perturbative approach with semiclassical techniques. This allows us to study the entire range from clean to diffusive systems. As an application we consider the magnetic response of non-interacting electrons in microstructures in the presence of weak disorder. We show that in the ballistic case (elastic mean free path $\ell$ larger than the system size) there exist two distinct regimes of behaviour depending on the relative magnitudes of $\ell$ and an inelastic scattering length $L_ϕ$. We present numerical results for square billiards and derive approximate analytical results for generic chaotic geometries. The magnetic field dependence and $L_ϕ$ dependence of the disorder-induced susceptibility is qualitatively similar in both types of geometry.

From clean to diffusive mesoscopic systems: A semiclassical approach to the magnetic susceptibility

We study disorder-induced spectral correlations and their effect on the magnetic susceptibility of mesoscopic quantum systems in the non-diffusive regime. By combining a diagrammatic perturbative approach with semiclassical techniques we perform impurity averaging for non-translational invariant systems. This allows us to study the crossover from clean to diffusive systems. As an application we consider the susceptibility of non-interacting electrons in a ballistic microstructure in the presence of weak disorder. We present numerical results for a square billiard and approximate analytic results for generic chaotic geometries. We show that for the elastic mean free path $\ell$ larger than the system size, there are two distinct regimes of behaviour depending on the relative magnitudes of $\ell$ and an inelastic scattering length.

Effect of dephasing on mesoscopic conductance fluctuations in quantum dots with single channel leads

We consider the distribution of conductance fluctuations in disordered quantum dots with single channel leads. Using a perturbative diagrammatic approach, valid for continuous level spectra, we describe dephasing due to processes within the dot by considering two different contributions to the level broadening, thus satisfying particle number conservation. Instead of a completely non-Gaussian distribution, which occurs for zero dephasing, we find for strong dephasing that the distribution is mainly Gaussian with non-universal variance and non-Gaussian tails.

Mesoscopic conductance fluctuations in dirty quantum dots with single channel leads

We consider a distribution of conductance fluctuations in quantum dots with single channel leads and continuous level spectra and we demonstrate that it has a distinctly non-Gaussian shape and strong dependence on time-reversal symmetry, in contrast to an almost Gaussian distribution of conductances in a disordered metallic sample connected to a reservoir by broad multi-channel leads. In the absence of time-reversal symmetry, our results obtained within the diagrammatic approach coincide with those derived within non-perturbative techniques. In addition, we show that the distribution has lognormal tails for weak disorder, similar to the case of broad leads, and that it becomes almost lognormal as the amount of disorder is increased towards the Anderson transition.
