The theorem of Maehara-Severi for maps of general type

We prove a finiteness result for dominant rational maps whose orbifold base is of general type. Our finiteness result generalizes Maehara's theorem that a given variety dominates only finitely many projective varieties of general type up to birational equivalence, and also answers a question of Campana on the finiteness of Bogomolov sheaves. We give several further applications, including finiteness results for maps to curves, abelian varieties, and K3 surfaces.

Irregularities of special C-pairs

This paper studies irregularity-type invariants of special C-pairs, or "geometric orbifolds" in the sense of Campana. Under mild assumptions on the singularities, we show that the augmented irregularity of a C-pair (X,D) is bounded by its dimension. This generalizes earlier results of Campana, and strengthens known results even in the classic case where X is a projective manifold and D = 0. The proof builds on new extension results for adapted forms, analysis of foliations on Albanese varieties, and constructions of Bogomolov sheaves using strict wedge subspaces of adapted forms.

Entire curves in C-pairs with large irregularity

This paper extends the fundamental theorem of Bloch-Ochiai to the context of C-pairs: If (X, D) is a C-pair with large irregularity, then no entire C-curve in X is ever dense. In its most general form, the paper's main theorem applies to normal K\"ahler pairs with arbitrary singularities. However, it also strengthens known results for compact K\"ahler manifolds without boundary, as it applies to some settings that the classic Bloch-Ochiai theorem does not address. The proof builds on the work of Kawamata, Ueno, and Noguchi, recasting parabolic Nevanlinna theory as a "Nevanlinna theory for C-pairs". We hope the approach might be of independent interest.

The Albanese of a C-pair

Written with a view toward applications in hyperbolicity, rational points, and entire curves, this paper addresses the problem of constructing Albanese maps within Campana's theory of C-pairs (or "geometric orbifolds"). It introduces C-semitoric pairs as analogs of the (semi)tori used in the classic Albanese theory and follows Serre by defining the Albanese of a C-pair as the universal map to a C-semitoric pairs. The paper shows that the Albanese exists in relevant cases, gives sharp existence criteria, and conjectures that a "weak Albanese" exists unconditionally.

C-pairs and their morphisms

This paper surveys Campana's theory of C-pairs (or "geometric orbifolds") in the complex-analytic setting, to serve as a reference for future work. Written with a view towards applications in hyperbolicity, rational points, and entire curves, it introduces the fundamental definitions of C-pair-theory systematically. In particular, it establishes an appropriate notion of "morphism", which agrees with notions from the literature in the smooth case, but is better behaved in the singular setting and has functorial properties that relate it to minimal model theory.

Weakly-special threefolds and non-density of rational points

We verify part of a conjecture of Campana predicting that rational points on the weakly-special non-special simply-connected smooth projective threefolds constructed by Bogomolov-Tschinkel are not dense. To prove our result, we establish fundamental properties of moduli spaces of orbifold maps, and prove a dimension bound for such moduli spaces by using the recent extension of Kobayashi-Ochiai's finiteness theorem for Campana's orbifold pairs.

Simply connectedness and hyperbolicity

We generalize to arbitrary dimension our previous construction of simply connected weakly-special but not special varieties. We show that they satisfy the function field and complex analytic part of Campana's conjecture. Moreover, we give the first examples, in any dimension, of smooth simply connected nonisotrivial projective varieties of general type that satisfy the function field Lang's conjecture.

Orbifold Chern classes inequalities and applications

In this paper we prove that given a pair $(X,D)$ of a threefold $X$ and a boundary divisor $D$ with mild singularities, if $(K_X+D)$ is movable, then the orbifold second Chern class $c_2$ of $(X,D)$ is pseudo-effective. This generalizes the classical result of Miyaoka on the pseudo-effectivity of $c_2$ for minimal models. As an application we give a simple solution to Kawamata's effective non-vanishing conjecture in dimension $3$, where we prove that $H^0(X, K_X+H)\neq 0$, whenever $K_X+H$ is nef and $H$ is an ample, effective, reduced Cartier divisor. Furthermore, we study Lang-Vojta's conjecture for codimension one subvarieties and prove that minimal varieties of general type have only finitely many Fano, Calabi-Yau or Abelian subvarieties of codimension one, mildly singular, whose classes belong to the movable cone.

On the existence of logarithmic and orbifold jet differentials

We introduce the concept of directed orbifold, namely triples (X, V, D) formed by a directed algebraic or analytic variety (X, V), and a ramification divisor D, where V is a coherent subsheaf of the tangent bundle TX. In this context, we introduce an algebra of orbifold jet differentials and their sections. These jet sections can be seen as algebraic differential operators acting on germs of curves, with meromorphic coefficients, whose poles are supported by D and multiplicities are bounded by the ramification indices of the components of D. We estimate precisely the curvature tensor of the corresponding directed structure V[D] in the general orbifold case-with a special attention to the compact case D = 0 and to the logarithmic situation where the ramification indices are infinite. Using holomorphic Morse inequalities on the tautological line bundle of the projectivized orbifold Green-Griffiths bundle, we finally obtain effective sufficient conditions for the existence of global orbifold jet differentials.

Numerically nonspecial varieties

Campana introduced the class of special varieties as the varieties admitting no Bogomolov sheaves i.e. rank one coherent subsheaves of maximal Kodaira dimension in some exterior power of the cotangent bundle. Campana raised the question if one can replace the Kodaira dimension by the numerical dimension in this characterization. We answer partially this question showing that a projective manifold admitting a rank one coherent subsheaf of the cotangent bundle with numerical dimension 1 is not special. We also establish the analytic characterization with the non-existence of Zariski dense entire curve and the arithmetic version with non-potential density in the (split) function field setting. Finally, we conclude with a few comments for higher codimensional foliations which may provide some evidence towards a generalization of the aforementioned results.

Divisibility of polynomials and degeneracy of integral points

We prove several statements about arithmetic hyperbolicity of certain blow-up varieties. As a corollary we obtain multiple examples of simply connected quasi-projective varieties that are pseudo-arithmetically hyperbolic. This generalizes results of Corvaja and Zannier obtained in dimension 2 to arbitrary dimension. The key input is an application of the Ru-Vojta's strategy. We also obtain the analogue results for function fields and Nevanlinna theory with the goal to apply them in a future paper in the context of Campana's conjectures.

Algebraic intermediate hyperbolicities

We extend Lang's conjectures to the setting of intermediate hyperbolicity and prove two new results motivated by these conjectures. More precisely, we first extend the notion of algebraic hyperbolicity (originally introduced by Demailly) to the setting of intermediate hyperbolicity and show that this property holds if the appropriate exterior power of the cotangent bundle is ample. Then, we prove that this intermediate algebraic hyperbolicity implies the finiteness of the group of birational automorphisms and of the set of surjective maps from a given projective variety. Our work answers the algebraic analogue of a question of Kobayashi on analytic hyperbolicity.

Nonspecial varieties and Generalized Lang-Vojta conjectures

We construct a family of fibered threefolds $X_m \to (S , Δ)$ such that $X_m$ has no étale cover that dominates a variety of general type but it dominates the orbifold $(S,Δ)$ of general type. Following Campana, the threefolds $X_m$ are called \emph{weakly special} but not \emph{special}. The Weak Specialness Conjecture predicts that a weakly special variety defined over a number field has a potentially dense set of rational points. We prove that if $m$ is big enough the threefolds $X_m$ present behaviours that contradict the function field and analytic analogue of the Weak Specialness Conjecture. We prove our results by adapting the recent method of Ru and Vojta. We also formulate some generalizations of known conjectures on exceptional loci that fit into Campana's program and prove some cases over function fields.

Quasi-positive orbifold cotangent bundles ; Pushing further an example by Junjiro Noguchi

In this work, we investigate the positivity of logarithmic and orbifold cotangent bundles along hyperplane arrangements in projective spaces. We show that a very interesting example given by Noguchi (as early as in 1986) can be pushed further to a very great extent. Key ingredients of our approach are the use of Fermat covers and the production of explicit global symmetric differentials. This allows us to obtain some new results in the vein of several classical results of the literature on hyperplane arrangements. These seem very natural using the modern point of view of augmented base loci, and working in Campana's orbifold category. As an application of our results, we derive two new orbifold hyperbolicity results, going beyond some classical results of value distribution theory.

Hyperbolicity and Specialness of Symmetric Powers

Inspired by the computation of the Kodaira dimension of symmetric powers Xm of a complex projective variety X of dimension n $\ge$ 2 by Arapura and Archava, we study their analytic and algebraic hyperbolic properties. First we show that Xm is special if and only if X is special (except when the core of X is a curve). Then we construct dense entire curves in (suf-ficiently hig) symmetric powers of K3 surfaces and product of curves. We also give a criterion based on the positivity of jet differentials bundles that implies pseudo-hyperbolicity of symmetric powers. As an application, we obtain the Kobayashi hyperbolicity of symmetric powers of generic projective hypersur-faces of sufficiently high degree. On the algebraic side, we give a criterion implying that subvarieties of codimension $\le$ n -- 2 of symmetric powers are of general type. This applies in particular to varieties with ample cotangent bundles. Finally, based on a metric approach we study symmetric powers of ball quotients.
