General condition of quantum teleportation by one-dimensional quantum walks

We extend the scheme of quantum teleportation by quantum walks introduced by Wang et al. (2017). First, we introduce the mathematical definition of the accomplishment of quantum teleportation by this extended scheme. Secondly, we show a useful necessary and sufficient condition that the quantum teleportation is accomplished rigorously. Our result classifies the parameters of the setting for the accomplishment of the quantum teleportation.

A discontinuity of the energy of quantum walk in impurities

We consider the discrete-time quantum walk whose local dynamics is denoted by $C$ at the perturbed region $\{0,1,\dots,M-1\}$ and free at the other positions. We obtain the stationary state with a bounded initial state. The initial state is set so that the perturbed region receives the inflow $ω^n$ at time $n$ $(|ω|=1)$. From this expression, we compute the scattering on the surface of $-1$ and $M$ and also compute the quantity how quantum walker accumulates in the perturbed region; namely the energy of the quantum walk, in the long time limit. We find a discontinuity of the energy with respect to the frequency of the inflow.

Relation between quantum walks with tails and quantum walks with sinks on finite graphs

We connect the Grover walk with sinks to the Grover walk with tails. The survival probability of the Grover walk with sinks in the long time limit is characterized by the centered generalized eigenspace of the Grover walk with tails. The centered eigenspace of the Grover walk is the attractor eigenspace of the Grover walk with sinks. It is described by the persistent eigenspace of the underlying random walk whose support has no overlap to the boundaries of the graph and combinatorial flow in the graph theory.

Dispersive estimates for quantum walks on 1D lattice

We consider quantum walks with position dependent coin on 1D lattice $\mathbb{Z}$. The dispersive estimate $\|U^tP_c u_0\|_{l^\infty}\lesssim (1+|t|)^{-1/3} \|u_0\|_{l^1}$ is shown under $l^{1,1}$ perturbation for the generic case and $l^{1,2}$ perturbation for the exceptional case, where $U$ is the evolution operator of a quantum walk and $P_c$ is the projection to the continuous spectrum. This is an analogous result for Schrödinger operators and discrete Schrödinger operators. The proof is based on the estimate of oscillatory integrals expressed by Jost solutions.

Generalized eigenfunctions for quantum walks via path counting approach

We consider the time-independent scattering theory for time evolution operators of one-dimensional two-state quantum walks. The scattering matrix associated with the position-dependent quantum walk naturally appears in the asymptotic behavior at spatial infinity of generalized eigenfunctions. The asymptotic behavior of generalized eigenfunctions is a consequence of an explicit expression of the Green function associated with the free quantum walk. When the position-dependent quantum walk is a finite rank perturbation of the free quantum walk, we derive a kind of combinatorial constructions of the scattering matrix by counting paths of quantum walkers. We also mention some remarks on the tunneling effect.

Quantum walks defined by digraphs and generalized Hermitian adjacency matrices

We propose a quantum walk defined by digraphs (mixed graphs). This is like Grover walk that is perturbed by a certain complex-valued function defined by digraphs. The discriminant of this quantum walk is a matrix that is a certain normalization of generalized Hermitian adjacency matrices. Furthermore, we give definitions of the positive and negative supports of the transfer matrix, and clarify explicit formulas of their supports of the square. In addition, we give tables by computer on the identification of digraphs by their eigenvalues.

Quantum search of matching on signed graphs

We construct a quantum searching model of a signed edge driven by a quantum walk. The time evolution operator of this quantum walk provides a weighted adjacency matrix induced by the assignment of sign to each edge. This sign can be regarded as so called the edge coloring. Then as an application, under an arbitrary edge coloring which gives a matching on a complete graph, we consider a quantum search of a colored edge from the edge set of a complete graph. We show that this quantum walk finds a colored edge within the time complexity of $O(n^{\frac{2-α}{2}})$ with probability $1-o(1)$ while the corresponding random walk on the line graph finds them within the time complexity of $O(n^{2-α})$ if we set the number of the edges of the matching by $O(n^α)$ for $0 \le α\le 1$.

Electric circuit induced by quantum walk

We consider the Szegedy walk on graphs adding infinite length tails to a finite internal graph. We assume that on these tails, the dynamics is given by the free quantum walk. We set the $\ell^\infty$-category initial state so that the internal graph receives time independent input from the tails, say $\boldsymbolα_{in}$, at every time step. We show that the response of the Szegedy walk to the input, which is the output, say $\boldsymbolβ_{out}$, from the internal graph to the tails in the long time limit, is drastically changed depending on the reversibility of the underlying random walk. If the underlying random walk is reversible, we have $\boldsymbolβ_{out}=\mathrm{Sz}(\boldsymbol{m}_{δE})\boldsymbolα_{in}$, where the unitary matrix $\mathrm{Sz}(\boldsymbol{m}_{δE})$ is the reflection matrix to the unit vector $\boldsymbol{m}_{δE}$ which is determined by the boundary of the internal graph $δE$. Then the global dynamics so that the internal graph is regarded as one vertex recovers the local dynamics of the Szegedy walk in the long time limit. Moreover if the underlying random walk of the Szegedy walk is reversible, then we obtain that the stationary state is expressed by a linear combination of the reversible measure and the electric current on the electric circuit determined by the internal graph and the random walk's reversible measure. On the other hand, if the underlying random walk is not reversible, then the unitary matrix is just a phase flip; that is, $\boldsymbolβ_{out}=-\boldsymbolα_{in}$, and the stationary state is similar to the current flow but satisfies a different type of the Kirchhoff laws.

Eigenvalues of quantum walk induced by recurrence properties of the underlying birth and death process: application to computation of an edge state

In this paper, we consider an extended coined Szegedy model and discuss the existence of the point spectrum of induced quantum walks in terms of recurrence properties of the underlying birth and death process. We obtain that if the underlying random walk is not null recurrent, then the point spectrum exists in the induced quantum walks. As an application, we provide a simple computational way of the dispersion relation of the edge state part for the topological phase model driven by quantum walk using the recurrence properties of underlying birth and death process.

A crossover between open quantum random walks to quantum walks

We propose an intermediate walk continuously connecting an open quantum random walk and a quantum walk with parameters $M\in \mathbb{N}$ controlling a decoherence effect; if $M=1$, the walk coincides with an open quantum random walk, while $M=\infty$, the walk coincides with a quantum walk. We define a measure which recovers usual probability measures on $\mathbb{Z}$ for $M=\infty$ and $M=1$ and we observe intermediate behavior through numerical simulations for varied positive values $M$. In the case for $M=2$, we analytically show that a typical behavior of quantum walks appears even in a small gap of the parameter from the open quantum random walk. More precisely, we observe both the ballistically moving towards left and right sides and localization of this walker simultaneously. The analysis is based on Kato's perturbation theory for linear operator. We futher analyze this limit theorem in more detail and show that the above three modes are described by Gaussian distributions.

Explicit expression of scattering operator of some quantum walks on impurities

In this paper, we consider the scattering theory for a one-dimensional quantum walk with impurities which make reflections and transmissions. We focus on an explicit expression of the scattering operator. Our construction of the formula is based on the counting paths of quantum walkers. The Fourier transform of the scattering operator gives an explicit formula of the scattering matrix which is deeply related with the resonant-tunneling for quantum walks.

A zeta function related to the transition matrix of the discrete-time quantum walk on a graph

We present the structure theorem for the positive support of the cube of the Grover transition matrix of the discrete-time quantum walk (the Grover walk) on a general graph $G$ under same condition. Thus, we introduce a zeta function on the positive support of the cube of the Grover transition matrix of $G$, and present its Euler product and its determinant expression. As a corollary, we give the characteristic polynomial for the positive support of the cube of the Grover transition matrix of a regular graph, and so obtain its spectra. Finally, we present the poles and the radius of the convergence of this zeta function.

A walk on max-plus algebra

Max-plus algebra is a kind of idempotent semiring over $\mathbb{R}_{\max}:=\mathbb{R}\cup\{-\infty\}$ with two operations $\oplus := \max$ and $\otimes := +$.In this paper, we introduce a new model of a walk on one dimensional lattice on $\mathbb{Z}$, as an analogue of the quantum walk, over the max-plus algebra and we call it max-plus walk. In the conventional quantum walk, the summation of the $\ell^2$-norm of the states over all the positions is a conserved quantity. In contrast, the summation of eigenvalues of state decision matrices is a conserved quantity in the max-plus walk. Moreover, spectral analysis on the total time evolution operator is also given.

Detection of edge defects by embedded eigenvalues of quantum walks

We consider a position-dependent quantum walk on ${\bf Z}$. In particular, we derive a detection method for edge defects by embedded eigenvalues of its time evolution operator. In the present paper, the set of edge defects is that of points in ${\bf Z}$ on which the coin operator is an anti-diagonal matrix. In fact, under some suitable assumptions, the existence of a finite number of edge defects is equivalent to the existence of embedded eigenvalues of the time evolution operator.

Dynamical system induced by quantum walk

We consider the Grover walk model on a connected finite graph with two infinite length tails and we set an $\ell^\infty$-infinite external source from one of the tails as the initial state. We show that for any connected internal graph, a stationary state exists, moreover a perfect transmission to the opposite tail always occurs in the long time limit. We also show that the lower bound of the norm of the stationary measure restricted to the internal graph is proportion to the number of edges of this graph. Furthermore when we add more tails (e.g., $r$-tails) to the internal graph, then we find that from the temporal and spatial global view point, the scattering to each tail in the long time limit coincides with the local one-step scattering manner of the Grover walk at a vertex whose degree is $(r+1)$.

Dynamics of solitons for nonlinear quantum walks

We present some numerical results for nonlinear quantum walks (NLQWs) studied by the authors analytically \cite{MSSSS18DCDS, MSSSS18QIP}. It was shown that if the nonlinearity is weak, then the long time behavior of NLQWs are approximated by linear quantum walks. In this paper, we observe the linear decay of NLQWs for range of nonlinearity wider than studied in \cite{MSSSS18DCDS}. In addition, we treat the strong nonlinear regime and show that the solitonic behavior of solutions appears. There are several kinds of soliton solutions and the dynamics becomes complicated. However, we see that there are some special cases so that we can calculate explicit form of solutions. In order to understand the nonlinear dynamics, we systematically study the collision between soliton solutions. We can find a relationship between our model and a nonlinear differential equation.

Phase measurement of quantum walks: application to structure theorem of the positive support of the Grover walk

We obtain a structure theorem of the positive support of the $n$-th power of the Grover walk on $k$-regular graph whose girth is greater than $2(n-1)$. This structure theorem is provided by the parity of the amplitude of another quantum walk on the line which depends only on $k$. The phase pattern of this quantum walk has a curious regularity. We also exactly show how the spectrum of the $n$-th power of the Grover walk is obtained by lifting up that of the adjacency matrix to the complex plain.

Eigenbasis of the Evolution Operator of 2-Tessellable Quantum Walks

Staggered quantum walks on graphs are based on the concept of graph tessellation and generalize some well-known discrete-time quantum walk models. In this work, we address the class of 2-tessellable quantum walks with the goal of obtaining an eigenbasis of the evolution operator. By interpreting the evolution operator as a quantum Markov chain on an underlying multigraph, we define the concept of quantum detailed balance, which helps to obtain the eigenbasis. A subset of the eigenvectors is obtained from the eigenvectors of the double discriminant matrix of the quantum Markov chain. To obtain the remaining eigenvectors, we have to use the quantum detailed balance conditions. If the quantum Markov chain has a quantum detailed balance, there is an eigenvector for each fundamental cycle of the underlying multigraph. If the quantum Markov chain does not have a quantum detailed balance, we have to use two fundamental cycles linked by a path in order to find the remaining eigenvectors. We exemplify the process of obtaining the eigenbasis of the evolution operator using the kagome lattice (the line graph of the hexagonal lattice), which has symmetry properties that help in the calculation process.
