On generators of $C_0$-semigroups of composition operators

Avicou, Chalendar and Partington proved that an (unbounded) operator $(Af)=G\cdot f'$ on the classical Hardy space generates a $C_0$ semigroup of composition operators if and only if it generates a quasicontractive semigroup. Here we prove that if such an operator $A$ generates a $C_0$ semigroup, then it is automatically a semigroup of composition operators, so that the condition of quasicontractivity of the semigroup in the cited result is not necessary. Our result applies to a rather general class of Banach spaces of analytic functions in the unit disc.

Orbits of non-elliptic disc automorphisms

Motivated by the Invariant Subspace Problem, we describe explicitly the closed subspace $H^2$ generated by the limit points in the $H^2$ norm of the orbit of a thin Blaschke product $B$ under composition operators $C_ϕ$ induced by non-elliptic automorphisms. This description exhibits a surprising connection to model spaces. Finally, we give a constructive characterization of the $C_ϕ$-eigenfunctions in $H^p$ for $1\le p\le \infty$.

Boundedness, compactness and Schatten-class membership of weighted composition operators

The boundedness and compactness of weighted composition operators on the Hardy space ${\mathcal H}^2$ of the unit disc is analysed. Particular reference is made to the case when the self-map of the disc is an inner function. Schatten-class membership is also considered; as a result, stronger forms of the two main results of a recent paper of Gunatillake are derived. Finally, weighted composition operators on weighted Bergman spaces $\mathcal{A}^2 α(\mathbb{D})$ are considered, and the results of Harper and Smith, linking their properties to those of Carleson embeddings, are extended to this situation.

On the connected component of compact composition operators on the Hardy space

We show that there exist non-compact composition operators in the connected component of the compact ones on the classical Hardy space $H^2$ on the unit disc. This answers a question posed by Shapiro and Sundberg in 1990. We also establish an improved version of a theorem of MacCluer, giving a lower bound for the essential norm of a difference of composition operators in terms of the angular derivatives of their symbols. As a main tool we use Aleksandrov-Clark measures.
