Extraction of Neutron-Skin Parameters in Zr+Zr and Ru+Ru Collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\text{NN}}}$ = 200 GeV

The initial nuclear geometry of colliding nuclei, manifested in proton and neutron density profiles, plays a key role in determining final-state effects in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. We study ${^{96}\text{Ru}}+{^{96}\text{Ru}}$ and ${^{96}\text{Zr}}+{^{96}\text{Zr}}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\text{NN}}}=200$ GeV incorporating an isospin-dependent Woods-Saxon distribution to account for neutron-skin effects in the UrQMD model. By systematically scanning the proton surface diffuseness parameter $a_{\text{p,Zr}}$ of the $^{96}\text{Zr}$ nucleus and performing a $\chi^2$ analysis by comparing with STAR experimental data, we extract the relative neutron-skin thickness difference $0.278 \pm 0.018$ fm between the two isobaric systems using the net-charge yield difference $\Delta Q$. We further show that the neutron-skin effect evidently modifies the baryon-to-charge transport ratio $R_{B/Q}=\langle B \rangle/\Delta Q \times \Delta Z/A$, and substantially influences the observed $R_{B/Q}>1$ behavior in central collisions. This work indicates that nuclear structure effects contribute non-negligibly to baryon transport observables without a baryon junction hypothesis, and underscores the importance of precise initial-state geometry constraints for exploring novel QCD phenomena in relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Statistical uncertainty estimation of higher-order cumulants with finite efficiency and its application in heavy-ion collisions

We derive the general analytical expressions for the statistical uncertainties of cumulants up to fourth order including an efficiency correction. The analytical expressions have been tested with a toy Monte Carlo model analysis. An application to the study of particle multiplicity fluctuations in heavy-ion collisions is investigated. In this derivation, a mathematical proof is given that the validity of an averaged efficiency correction and the fluctuations induced by the non-uniformity of efficiency can be eliminated. The estimation of statistical uncertainties using the analytical formulas is found to be significantly faster than the commonly used bootstrap method. The simplicity and efficiency of using the analytical formulas may be useful for massive data analysis in many fields.

Charm and beauty isolation from heavy flavor decay electrons in p+p and Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV at LHC

We present an analysis on the heavy flavor hadron decay electrons with charm and beauty contributions decomposed via a data driven method in p+p and Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV at LHC. The transverse momentum $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ spectra, nuclear modification factor $R_{\mathrm{AA}}$ and azimuthal anisotropic flow $v_2$ distributions of electrons from charm and beauty decays are obtained. We find that the electron $R_{\mathrm{AA}}$ from charm ($R_{\mathrm{AA}}^{\mathrm{c\rightarrow e}}$) and beauty ($R_{\mathrm{AA}}^{\mathrm{b\rightarrow e}}$) decays are suppressed at $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ $>$ 2.0 and $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ $>$ 3.0 GeV/$c$ in Pb+Pb collisions, respectively, which indicates that charm and beauty interact with and lose their energy in the hot-dense medium. A less suppression of electron $R_{\mathrm{AA}}$ from beauty decays than that from charm decays at 2.0 $<$ $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ $<$ 8.0 GeV/$c$ is observed, which is consistent with the mass-dependent partonic energy loss scenario. A non-zero electron $v_2$ from beauty decays ($v_{2}^{\mathrm{b\rightarrow e}}$) is observed and in good agreement with ALICE measurement. At low $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ region from 1.0 to 3.0 GeV/$c$, a discrepancy between RHIC and LHC results is observed with 68\% confidence level, which suggests different degree of thermalization of beauty quark under different temperatures of the medium. At 3.0 GeV/$c$ $<$ $p_{\mathrm{T}}$ $<$ 7.0 GeV/$c$, $v_{2}^{\mathrm{b\rightarrow e}}$ deviates from a number-of-constituent-quark (NCQ) scaling hypothesis, which favors that beauty quark is unlikely thermalized in heavy-ion collisions at LHC energy.

Effect of non-uniform efficiency on higher-order cumulants in heavy-ion collisions

We perform a systematic study on the effect of non-uniform track efficiency correction in higher-order cumulant analysis in heavy-ion collisions. Through analytical derivation, we find that the true values of cumulants can be successfully reproduced by the efficiency correction with an average of the realistic detector efficiency for particles with the same charges within each single phase space. The theoretical conclusions are supported by a toy model simulation by tuning the non-uniformity of the efficiency employed in the track-by-track efficiency correction method. The valid averaged efficiency is found to suppress the statistical uncertainties of the reproduced cumulants dramatically. Thus, usage of the averaged efficiency requires a careful study of phase space dependence. This study is important for carrying out precision measurements of higher-order cumulants in heavy-ion collision experiments at present and in future.

Charm and beauty isolation from heavy flavor decay electrons in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 200 GeV at RHIC

We present a study of charm and beauty isolation based on a data-driven method with recent measurements on heavy flavor hadrons and their decay electrons in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 200 GeV at RHIC. The individual electron $p_{\rm T}$ spectra, $R_{\rm AA}$ and $v_2$ distributions from charmed and beauty hadron decays are obtained. We find that the electron $R_{\rm AA}$ from beauty hadron decays ($R_{\rm AA}^{\rm b\rightarrow e}$) is suppressed in minimum bias Au+Au collisions but less suppressed compared with that from charmed hadron decays at $p_{\rm T}$ $>$ 3.5 GeV/$c$, which indicates that beauty quark interacts with the hot-dense medium with depositing its energy and is consistent with the mass-dependent energy loss scenario. For the first time, the non-zero electron $v_2$ from beauty hadron decays ($v_2^{\rm b\rightarrow e}$) at $p_{\rm T}$ $>$ 3.0 GeV/$c$ is observed and shows smaller elliptic flow compared with that from charmed hadron decays at $p_{\rm T}$ $<$ 4.0 GeV/$c$. At 2.5 GeV/$c$ $<$ $p_{\rm T}$ $<$ 4.5 GeV/$c$, $v_2^{\rm b\rightarrow e}$ is smaller than a number-of-constituent-quark (NCQ) scaling hypothesis. This suggests that beauty quark is unlikely thermalized and too heavy to be moved in a partonic collectivity in heavy-ion collisions at the RHIC energy.
