Surpassing the Classical Limit in Magic Square Game with Distant Quantum Dots Coupled to Optical Cavities

The emergence of quantum technologies is heating up the debate on quantum supremacy, usually focusing on the feasibility of looking good on paper algorithms in realistic settings, due to the vulnerability of quantum systems to myriad sources of noise. In this vein, an interesting example of quantum pseudo-telepathy games that quantum mechanical resources can theoretically outperform classical resources is the Magic Square game (MSG), in which two players play against a referee. Due to noise, however, the unit winning probability of the players can drop well below the classical limit. Here, we propose a timely and unprecedented experimental setup for quantum computation with quantum dots inside optical cavities, along with ancillary photons for realizing interactions between distant dots to implement the MSG. Considering various physical imperfections of our setup, we first show that the MSG can be implemented with the current technology, outperforming the classical resources under realistic conditions. Next, we show that our work gives rise to a new version of the game. That is, if the referee has information on the physical realization and strategy of the players, he can bias the game through filtered randomness and increase his winning probability. We believe our work contributes to not only quantum game theory, but also quantum computing with quantum dots.

Self-localized Solitons of a q-Deformed Quantum System

Beyond a pure mathematical interest, q-deformation is promising for the modeling and interpretation of various physical phenomena. In this paper, we numerically investigate the existence and properties of the self-localized soliton solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) with a q-deformed Rosen-Morse potential. By implementing a Petviashvili method (PM), we obtain the self-localized one and two soliton solutions of the NLSE with a q-deformed Rosen-Morse potential. In order to investigate the temporal behavior and stabilities of these solitons, we implement a Fourier spectral method with a $4^{th}$ order Runge-Kutta time integrator. We observe that the self-localized one and two solitons are stable and remain bounded with a pulsating behavior and minor changes in the sidelobes of the soliton waveform. Additionally, we investigate the stability and robustness of these solitons under noisy perturbations. A sinusoidal monochromatic wave field modeled within the frame of the NLSE with a q-deformed Rosen-Morse potential turns into a chaotic wavefield and exhibits rogue oscillations due to modulation instability triggered by noise, however, the self-localized solitons of the NLSE with a q-deformed Rosen-Morse potential are stable and robust under the effect of noise. We also show that soliton profiles can be reconstructed after a denoising process performed using a Savitzky-Golay filter.

Temperature control in dissipative cavities by entangled dimers

We show that the temperature of a cavity field can be drastically varied by its interaction with suitably-entangled atom pairs (dimers) traversing the cavity under realistic atomic decoherence. To this end we resort to the hitherto untapped resource of naturally entangled dimers whose state can be simply controlled via molecular dissociation, collisions forming the dimer, or unstable dimers such as positronium. Depending on the chosen state of the dimer, the cavity-field mode can be driven to a steady-state temperature that is either much lower or much higher than the ambient temperature, despite adverse effects of cavity loss and atomic decoherence. Entangled dimers enable much broader range of cavity temperature control than single `phaseonium' atoms with coherently-superposed levels. Such dimers are shown to constitute highly caloric fuel that can ensure high efficiency or power in photonic thermal engines. Alternatively, they can serve as controllable thermal baths for quantum simulation of energy exchange in photosynthesis or quantum annealing.

Freezing Optical Rogue Waves by Zeno Dynamics

We investigate the Zeno dynamics of the optical rogue waves. Considering their usage in modeling rogue wave dynamics, we analyze the Zeno dynamics of the Akhmediev breathers, Peregrine and Akhmediev-Peregrine soliton solutions of the nonlinear Schrodinger equation. We show that frequent measurements of the wave inhibits its movement in the observation domain for each of these solutions. We analyze the spectra of the rogue waves under Zeno dynamics. We also analyze the effect of observation frequency on the rogue wave profile and on the probability of lingering of the wave in the observation domain. Our results can find potential applications in optics including nonlinear phenomena.

Quantum Pseudo-Telepathy in Spin Systems: Magic Square Game Under Magnetic Fields and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction

Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction has been proven to excite entanglement of spin systems, enhancing the capability of realizing various quantum tasks such as teleportation. In this work, we consider the DM interaction -to the best of our knowledge, for the first time in quantum game theory. We study the winning probability of magic square game played with the thermal entangled state of spin models under external magnetic fields and DM interaction. We analytically show that although DM interaction excites the entanglement of the system as expected, it surprizingly reduces the winning probability of the game, acting like temperature or magnetic fields, and also show that the effects of DM interaction and inhomogeneous magnetic field on the winning probability are identical. In addition, we show that XXZ model is considerably more robust than XX model against destructive effects. Our results can open new insights for quantum information processing with spin systems.

Deterministic generation of large scale atomic W states

We present a deterministic scheme for generating large-scale atomic W states in cavity QED system via a simple expansion mechanism, which is realized only by a detuned interaction between two identical atoms and a vacuum cavity mode. With the presented scheme, a W-type Bell pair can be created and an n-atom W state can be expanded to a 2n-atom W state with a unit probability of success in principle. No multi-atom gates, quantum memories or quantum non-demolition measurements are required, greatly simplifying the experimental realization of the scheme. The feasibility analysis shows that our expansion scheme can be implemented with state-of-the-art technologies. Our scheme enables advances not only in quantum information and communication but also in quantum thermodynamics, where atomic W states plays a crucial role.

Generating multi-atom entangled W states via light-matter interface based fusion mechanism

W state is a key resource in quantum communication. Fusion technology has been proven to be a good candidate for preparing a large-size W state from two or more small-size W states in linear optical system. It is of great importance to study how to fuse W states via light-matter interface. Here we show that it is possible to prepare large-size W-state networks using a fusion mechanism in cavity QED system. The detuned interaction between three atoms and a vacuum cavity mode constitute the main fusion mechanism, based on which two or three small-size atomic W states can be fused into a larger-size W state. If no excitation is detected from those three atoms, the remaining atoms are still in the product of two or three new W states, which can be re-fused. The complicated Fredkin gate used in the previous fusion schemes is avoided here. W states of size 2 can be fused as well. The feasibility analysis shows that our fusion processes maybe implementable with the current technology. Our results demonstrate how the light-matter interaction based fusion mechanism can be realized, and may become the starting point for the fusion of multipartite entanglement in cavity QED system.

Generating multi-photon W-like states for perfect quantum teleportation and superdense coding

An interesting aspect of multipartite entanglement is that for perfect teleportation and superdense coding, not the maximally entangled W states but a special class of non-maximally entangled W-like states are required. Therefore, efficient preparation of such W-like states is of great importance in quantum communications, which has not been studied as much as the preparation of W states. In this letter, we propose a simple optical scheme for efficient preparation of large-scale polarization based entangled W-like states by fusing two W-like states or expanding a W-like state with an ancilla photon. Our scheme can also generate large-scale W states by fusing or expanding W or even W-like states. The cost analysis show that in generating large scale W states, the fusion mechanism achieves a higher efficiency with non-maximally entangled W-like states than maximally entangled W states. Our scheme can also start fusion or expansion with Bell states, and it is composed of a polarization dependent beam splitter, two polarizing beam splitters and photon detectors. Requiring no ancilla photons or controlled gates to operate, our scheme can be realized with the current photonics technology and we believe it enables advances in quantum teleportation and superdense coding in multipartite settings.

Parameter Estimation with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interaction under External Magnetic Fields

We study the effects of external magnetic fields on the precision of parameter estimation with thermal entanglement of two spins in XX model, in the presence of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction. Calculating the quantum Fisher information, we show that homogeneous magnetic field B, inhomogeneous magnetic field b or DM interaction D increases the precision of parameter estimation, overwhelming the destructive effects of thermalization. We also show that for the model in consideration, the effects of b and D are the same. However, the existence of both b and B (or both D and B) decreases the precision. We find that in order to increase the precision in parameter estimation tasks, applying b in the ferromagnetic case and B in the antiferromagnetic case should be preferred.

Deterministic Local Expansion of W States

In large quantum systems multipartite entanglement can be found in many inequivalent classes under local operations and classical communication. Preparing states of arbitrary size in different classes is important for performing a wide range of quantum protocols. W states, in particular, constitute a class with a variety of quantum networking protocols. However, all known schemes for preparing W states are probabilistic, with resource requirements increasing at least sub-exponentially. We propose a deterministic scheme for preparing W states that requires no prior entanglement and can be performed locally. We introduce an all-optical setup that can efficiently prepare W states of arbitrary size. Our scheme advances the use of W states in real-world quantum networks and could be extended to other physical systems.

Analysis of Entanglement Measures and LOCC Maximized Quantum Fisher Information of General Two Qubit Systems

Entanglement has been studied extensively for unveiling the mysteries of non-classical correlations between quantum systems. In the bipartite case, there are well known measures for quantifying entanglement such as concurrence, relative entropy of entanglement (REE) and negativity, which cannot be increased via local operations. It was found that for sets of non-maximally entangled states of two qubits, comparing these entanglement measures may lead to different entanglement orderings of the states. On the other hand, although it is not an entanglement measure and not monotonic under local operations, due to its ability of detecting multipartite entanglement, quantum Fisher information (QFI) has recently received an intense attraction generally with entanglement in the focus. In this work, we revisit the state ordering problem of general two qubit states. Generating a thousand random quantum states and performing an optimization based on local general rotations of each qubit, we calculate the maximal QFI for each state. We analyze the maximized QFI in comparison with concurrence, REE and negativity and obtain new state orderings. We show that there are pairs of states having equal maximized QFI but different values for concurrence, REE and negativity and vice versa.

Quantum Fisher Information of W States in Decoherence Channels

We study the quantum Fisher information (QFI) of W states analytically with respect to SU(2) rotations in the basic decoherence channels i.e. depolarizing (DPC), amplitude damping (ADC) and phase damping (PDC), and present the interesting behavior of QFI of W states, especially when compared to that of GHZ states [Ma et al., Phys. Rev. A, 84, 022302 (2011)]. We find that when initially pure W states are under decoherence, i) DPC: as decoherence starts and increases, QFI smoothly decays; ii) ADC: just as decoherence starts, QFI exhibits a sudden drop to the shot noise level and as decoherence increases, QFI continues to decrease to zero and then increases back to the shot noise level; iii) PDC: just as decoherence starts, a sudden death of QFI occurs and QFI remains zero for any rate of decoherence, therefore W states in phase damping channel do not provide phase sensitivity. We also find that, on the contrary to GHZ states, pure or decohered W states are not sensitive with respect to rotations in z direction and the sensitivities with respect to rotations in x and y directions are equal to each other, implying no sudden change points of QFI due to competition between directions.

Fusing multiple W states simultaneously with a Fredkin gate

We propose an optical scheme to prepare large-scale entangled networks of W states. The scheme works by simultaneously fusing three polarization-encoded W states of arbitrary size via accessing only one qubit of each W state. It is composed of a Fredkin gate (controlled-swap gate), two fusion gates [as proposed in New J. Phys. 13, 103003 (2011)] and an H-polarized ancilla photon. Starting with three $n$-qubit W states, the scheme prepares a new W state with $3(n-1)$-qubits after postselection if both fusion gates operate successfully, i.e. a four-fold coincidence at the detectors. The proposed scheme reduces the cost of creating arbitrarily large W states considerably when compared to previously reported schemes.

Enhancing the W State Quantum Network Fusion Process with A Single Fredkin Gate

Integrating a single Fredkin (controlled swap) gate to the previously introduced W state fusion mechanism (Ozdemir et al, N. J. Phys. 13, 103003, 2011) and using an ancillary photon, we increase the size of the fused W states and essentially, we improve the success probability of the fusion process in a promising way for a possible deterministic W state fusion mechanism. Besides fusing arbitrary size W states, our setup can also fuse Bell states to create W states with a success probability 3/4 which is much higher than the previous works. Therefore using only this setup, it is now possible to start with Bell pairs to create and expand arbitrary size W states. Since higher probability of success implies a lower cost of resource in terms of the number of the states spent to achieve a target size, our setup gives rise to more cost-efficient scenarios.
