Back-to-back dijet production in DIS at arbitrary Bjorken-x: TMD quark distributions to twist-3 accuracy

We study the contributions of target quark background to quark-gluon and quark-antiquark dijet productions cross sections in deep inelastic scattering (DIS) at arbitrary Bjorken-$x$. Using the background-field method, we organize the leading-order dijet production cross section in terms of bilocal quark and trilocal quark--gluon--quark correlators. The former provides the contributions of the leading-twist as well as the kinematical and dynamical twist-three quark transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) distributions, while the latter encode contributions of the dynamical twist-three TMD distributions. {Together with the gluon distributions derived in Ref.~\cite{Mukherjee:2026cte}}, these results provide the complete leading-order cross section for back-to-back dijet production in DIS at arbitrary Bjorken-$x$ to twist-three accuracy. This theoretical framework extends the TMD description of the process beyond the small-$x$ eikonal regime and provides the necessary tools for analyzing data from the future Electron--Ion Collider.

Proton isovector helicity PDF at NNLO and the twist-3 moment $\tilde{d}_2$ from lattice QCD at physical quark masses

We present a lattice quantum chromodynamics calculation of the $x$-dependent isovector quark helicity parton distribution function (PDF) of the proton in the large momentum effective theory (LaMET) framework. Through operator product expansion (OPE) we also extract the $\tilde{d}_2$ moment of the twist-3 PDF $g_T(x)$ for the first time in the $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme, which is proportional to the average color Lorentz force experienced by the quark in the proton. This calculation is performed on a lattice of spacing $a$ = 0.076 fm at physical quark masses. The quasi-PDF matrix elements are measured in proton states boosted to momenta $P_z=\{0, 0.25, 1.02, 1.53\}$ GeV. We first extract the lowest few helicity PDF moments from the renormalization-group (RG) invariant ratios of the matrix elements with OPE. Combined with the matrix elements relevant for $g_T(x)$, we obtain $\tilde{d}_2^{u-d}(2\ {\rm GeV})=0.0024(46)$ at next-to-leading order in $\overline{\rm MS}$. Then, the helicity quasi-PDF matrix elements are renormalized in the hybrid scheme with linear renormalon resummation and Fourier transformed to the $x$-space after an asymptotic extrapolation. The quasi-PDF is perturbatively matched to the $\overline{\rm MS}$ PDF with RG and threshold resummations at next-to-leading power and next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracies. After resummations, we determine the PDF in the region $x\in[0.25,0.75]$ with controlled systematic uncertainties. The end-point regions are then parameterized, combined with the LaMET prediction at moderate $x$, and fitted to the short-distance matrix elements in coordinate space.

Back-to-back dijet production in DIS at arbitrary Bjorken-x: TMD gluon distributions to twist-3 accuracy

We derive the gluon transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) operator structure of back-to-back quark-antiquark dijet production in deep inelastic scattering at arbitrary Bjorken-x to twist-3 accuracy. Working at leading order in the strong coupling and in the kinematic regime where the transverse momentum imbalance of the jets is much smaller than their individual transverse momenta, we perform a systematic gradient expansion of the quark propagator in a background gluon field. This expansion organizes multiple interactions with the target in terms of longitudinal Wilson lines and gauge-invariant field-strength insertions, yielding a TMD description valid beyond the strict high-energy eikonal (x -> 0) approximation. We obtain explicit cross sections for longitudinally and transversely polarized virtual photons, identifying all contributing gluon TMD operators up to twist-3, including structures involving F_+-, F_ij, and three-gluon correlators. The full longitudinal phase associated with Bjorken-x is retained throughout. In the small-x limit, our results reproduce the known sub-eikonal expressions obtained in the Color Glass Condensate framework, establishing a direct connection between the general-x TMD expansion and high-energy factorization. We further reduce the operator basis using equations of motion, minimizing the number of independent nonperturbative matrix elements entering the cross section. This work provides a systematic foundation for extending TMD analyses of dijet production beyond leading twist, establishing a unified operator framework valid at arbitrary Bjorken x that smoothly interpolates between moderate- and small-x descriptions of gluon TMDs.

Systematic Study of the Self-Renormalized Nucleon Gluon PDF in Large-Momentum Effective Theory

We present a systematic study of the nucleon gluon parton distribution function (PDF) using the self-renormalized large-momentum effective theory (LaMET) approach in lattice QCD. This work extends previous gluon-PDF extractions by performing a detailed analysis of key systematic effects, including gauge-link smearing, lattice spacing, pion mass, and nucleon boost momentum. The self-renormalization framework mitigates ultraviolet divergences associated with Wilson-line self-energy and renormalon contributions by combining lattice matrix elements with perturbative short-distance information, thereby preserving the correct infrared structure. Calculations are performed on $N_f=2+1+1$ HISQ ensembles generated by the MILC Collaboration at three lattice spacings and two pion masses, with boosted nucleon states reaching momenta up to 2.2~GeV. We determine renormalization factors from zero-momentum matrix elements and apply hybrid renormalization to suppress discretization artifacts. After extrapolating large-separation behavior and performing Fourier transforms, we reconstruct quasi-PDFs and match them to lightcone PDFs using next-to-leading order Wilson coefficients. Our results demonstrate that smearing and lattice-spacing effects are under control, and pion-mass and lattice-spacing dependence is mild relative to the current $O(10^6)$ statistics; however, momentum dependence remains a significant source of uncertainty. Future work including even larger boost momenta will be essential to reduce systematics in lattice determinations of the gluon PDF and to advance toward precision QCD phenomenology at the LHC and the future Electron-Ion Collider.

Skewness-dependent moments of the pion GPD from nonlocal quark-bilinear correlators

We present lattice QCD calculations of the odd Mellin moments of pion valence-quark generalized parton distribution (GPD) up to fifth order, $\langle x^4\rangle$, and for the skewness range $[-0.33, 0]$ using operator product expansion of bilocal quark-bilinear operators. The calculations are performed on an ensemble with lattice spacing $a=0.04~\mathrm{fm}$ and valence pion mass $300$ $\mathrm{MeV}$, employing boosted pion states with momenta up to 2.428 GeV and momentum transfers reaching 2.748 GeV$^2$. We employ ratio-scheme renormalization and next-to-leading-logarithmic resummed perturbative matching. At zero skewness, our results are consistent with previous lattice studies. By combining matrix elements at multiple values of skewness and momentum transfer, skewness-dependent moments are obtained through simultaneous polynomiality-constrained fits.

Unpolarized gluon PDF of the nucleon from lattice QCD at physical point in the continuum limit

We report a state-of-the-art lattice QCD calculation of the nucleon unpolarized gluon parton distribution function employing large-momentum effective theory. The calculation is carried out on the 2+1 flavor CLQCD ensembles with five lattice spacings a={0.105,0.0897,0.0775, 0.0688, 0.0519} fm and various pion masses ranging from 136 MeV to 317 MeV, covering nulceon momenta up to 3 GeV. Distillation technique is applied to improve the signal of two-point correlators. We then apply the state-of-the-art hybrid renormalization and one-loop perturbative matching, and extrapolate the result to the continuum limit, infinite momentum limit and physical pion mass.

First Self-Renormalized Gluon PDF of Nucleon from Large-Momentum Effective Theory in the Continuum Limit

We present the first lattice-QCD determination of the nucleon gluon parton distribution function (PDF) within the large-momentum effective theory (LaMET) framework, employing the hybrid scheme with self renormalization, in the continuum limit. High statistics calculations with boost momentum $P_z \approx 2.0$-$2.2$~GeV are performed at lattice spacings of $a \approx \{ 0.15, 0.12, 0.09 \}$~fm, a pion mass of $M_\pi \approx 310$~MeV, with $N_f=2+1+1$ quark flavors. We apply gradient flow smearing with $\mathcal{T}_\text{W} = 3a^2$, finding that self-renormalization remains stable. The renormalized gluon matrix elements and PDFs show consistent behavior across lattice spacings, with the $a \approx 0.09$~fm results statistically compatible with the continuum limit. Our final LaMET gluon PDF compares reasonably with select global-fit determinations, specifically preferring analyses which have near-zero gluonic density in the $x \gtrsim 0.6$ region.

Regularization Prescription for the Mixing Between Nonlocal Gluon and Quark Operators

It is well-known that in the study of mixing between nonlocal gluon and quark bilinear operators there exists an ambiguity when relating coordinate space and momentum space results, which can be conveniently resolved through Mellin moments matching in both spaces. In this work, we show that this ambiguity is due to the lack of a proper regularization prescription of the singularity that arises when the separation between the gluon/quark fields approaches zero. We then demonstrate that dimensional regularization resolves this issue and yields consistent results in both coordinate and momentum space. This prescription is also compatible with lattice extractions of parton distributions from nonlocal operators.

First Nucleon Gluon PDF from Large Momentum Effective Theory

We report the first nucleon gluon parton distribution function (PDF) using Large-Momentum Effective Theory (LaMET). We focus on the gluon operator which was demonstrated to have the best signal-to-noise in the previous attempt [1] in computing gluon PDFs using LaMET. We compute the corresponding Wilson coefficients needed for the hybrid-renormalized matrix elements and the matching kernel to convert the quasi-PDF to the lightcone one at the one-loop level. We demonstrate that with the proper Wilson coefficients in place, the counterterms for the renormalization are independent of the hadron and mass within statistical error. Using the resulting renormalization, we then compute the nucleon PDF using a HISQ ensemble generated by the MILC collaboration with $N_f=2+1+1$, $a \approx 0.12$ fm, with valence pion masses of 310 and 690 MeV and two gauge link smearing techniques. Despite the physics effects of the heavier than physical pion masses and gauge link smearing, this calculation provides excellent proof of principle and compares reasonably with selected global fit results.

Extracting Meson Distribution Amplitudes from Nonlocal Euclidean Correlations at Next-to-Next-to-Leading Order

We present the first complete result for the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) hard matching kernel indispensable for a precision extraction of light meson distribution amplitudes from lattice calculations of equal-time nonlocal Euclidean correlation functions. The results are given in both coordinate and momentum space, with the renormalization and matching accomplished in a state-of-the-art scheme. Our results can be used in both large-momentum effective theory and short-distance factorization approaches. Notably, our coordinate space kernel is directly applicable to nonsinglet quark unpolarized and helicity generalized parton distributions as well. We also illustrate the numerical impact of the NNLO matching, using the pion distribution amplitude as an example.

Parton Distribution Function of a Deuteron-like Dibaryon System from Lattice QCD

We report a lattice QCD calculation of the parton distribution function (PDF) of a deuteron-like dibaryon system using large-momentum effective theory. The calculation is done on three Wilson Clover ensembles with a fixed lattice spacing a=0.105 fm and two pion masses. The lattice matrix elements are computed at proton momenta up to 2.46 GeV with the signal of high momentum modes being improved by applying the momentum smearing technique. The state-of-the-art renormalization, matching and extrapolation are then applied to obtain the final result of the light-cone PDF. A comparison between the result of the dibaryon system and the sum of the proton and neutron PDFs is also given.

Total Gluon Helicity from Lattice without Effective Theory Matching

We propose two approaches for extracting the total gluon helicity contribution to proton spin from lattice QCD, one from local operator matrix elements in a fixed gauge accessible on lattice with feasible renormalization, and the other from gauge-invariant nonlocal gluon correlators. Neither of these approaches requires a matching procedure when converted to the MS scheme. Our proposal resolves a long-standing inconsistency in the literature regarding lattice calculations of the total gluon helicity, and has the potential to greatly facilitate these calculations.

Majorana stellar representation for mixed-spin $(s,\frac{1}{2})$ systems

By describing the evolution of a quantum state with the trajectories of the Majorana stars on a Bloch sphere, Majorana's stellar representation provides an intuitive geometric perspective to comprehend a quantum system with high-dimensional Hilbert space. However, the problem of the representation of a two-spin coupling system on a Bloch sphere has not been solved satisfactorily yet. Here, we present a practical method to resolve the problem for the mixed-spin $(s, 1/2)$ system. The system can be decomposed into two spins: spin-$(s+1/2)$ and spin-$(s-1/2)$ at the coupling bases, which can be regarded as independent spins. Besides, we may write any pure state as a superposition of two orthonormal states with one spin-$(s+1/2)$ state and the other spin-$(s-1/2)$ state. Thus, the whole state can be regarded as a state of a pseudo spin-$1/2$. In this way, the mixed spin decomposes into three spins. Therefore, we can represent the state by $(2s+1)+(2s-1)+1=4s+1$ sets of stars on a Bloch sphere. Finally, to demonstrate our theory, we give some examples that indeed show laconic and symmetric patterns on the Bloch sphere, and unveil the properties of the high-spin system by analyzing the trajectories of the Majorana stars on a Bloch sphere.

Connecting Euclidean to light-cone correlations: From flavor nonsinglet in forward kinematics to flavor singlet in non-forward kinematics

We present a unified framework for the perturbative factorization connecting Euclidean correlations to light-cone correlations. Starting from nonlocal quark and gluon bilinear correlators, we derive the relevant hard-matching kernel up to the next-to-leading-order, both for the flavor singlet and non-singlet combinations, in non-forward and forward kinematics, and in coordinate and momentum space. The results for the generalized distribution functions (GPDs), parton distribution functions (PDFs), and distribution amplitudes (DAs) are obtained by choosing appropriate kinematics. The renormalization and matching are done in a state-of-the-art scheme. We also clarify some issues raised on the perturbative matching of GPDs in the literature. Our results provide a complete manual for extracting all leading-twist GPDs, PDFs as well as DAs from lattice simulations of Euclidean correlations in a state-of-the-art strategy, either in coordinate or in momentum space factorization approach.

Resumming Quark's Longitudinal Momentum Logarithms in LaMET Expansion of Lattice PDFs

In the large-momentum expansion for parton distribution functions (PDFs), the natural physics scale is the longitudinal momentum ($p_z$) of the quarks (or gluons) in a large-momentum hadron. We show how to expose this scale dependence through resumming logarithms of the type $\ln^n p_z/μ$ in the matching coefficient, where $μ$ is a fixed renormalization scale. The result enhances the accuracy of the expansion at moderate $p_z>1$ GeV, and at the same time, clearly shows that the partons cannot be approximated from quarks with $p_z\sim Λ_{\rm QCD}$ which are not predominantly collinear with the parent hadron momentum, consistent with power counting of the large-momentum effective theory. The same physics mechanism constrains the coordinate space expansion at large distances $z$, the conjugate of $p_z$, as illustrated in the example of fitting the moments of the PDFs.

Nucleon Transversity Distribution in the Continuum and Physical Mass Limit from Lattice QCD

We report a state-of-the-art lattice QCD calculation of the isovector quark transversity distribution of the proton in the continuum and physical mass limit using large-momentum effective theory. The calculation is done at four lattice spacings $a=\{0.098,0.085,0.064,0.049\}$~fm and various pion masses ranging between $220$ and $350$ MeV, with proton momenta up to $2.8$ GeV. The result is non-perturbatively renormalized in the hybrid scheme with self renormalization which treats the infrared physics at large correlation distance properly, and extrapolated to the continuum, physical mass and infinite momentum limit. We also compare with recent global analyses for the nucleon isovector quark transversity distribution.

Renormalization of transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution on the lattice

To calculate the transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDPDFs) from lattice QCD, an important goal yet to be realized, it is crucial to establish a viable non-perturbative renormalization approach for linear divergences in the corresponding Euclidean quasi-TMDPDF correlators in large-momentum effective theory. We perform a first systematic study of the renormalization property of the quasi-TMDPDFs by calculating the relevant matrix elements in a pion state at 5 lattice spacings ranging from 0.03 fm to 0.12 fm. We demonstrate that the square root of the Wilson loop combined with the short distance hadron matrix element provides a successful method to remove all ultraviolet divergences of the quasi-TMD operator, and thus provide the necessary justification to perform a continuum limit calculation of TMDPDFs. In contrast, the popular RI/MOM renormalization scheme fails to eliminate all linear divergences.

Dative epitaxy of commensurate monocrystalline covalent-van der Waals moiré supercrystal

Realizing van der Waals (vdW) epitaxy in the 80s represents a breakthrough that circumvents the stringent lattice matching and processing compatibility requirements in conventional covalent heteroepitaxy. However, due to the weak vdW interactions, there is little control over film qualities by the substrate. Typically, discrete domains with a spread of misorientation angles are formed, limiting the applicability of vdW epitaxy. Here we report the epitaxial growth of monocrystalline, covalent Cr5Te8 2D crystals on monolayer vdW WSe2 by chemical vapor deposition, driven by interfacial dative bond formation. The lattice of Cr5Te8, with a lateral dimension of a few ten microns, is fully commensurate with that of WSe2 via 3 x 3 (Cr5Te8)-7 x 7 (WSe2) supercell matching, forming a single crystalline moire superlattice. Our work has established a conceptually distinct paradigm of thin film epitaxy termed dative epitaxy, which takes full advantage of covalent epitaxy with chemical bonding for fixing the atomic registry and crystal orientation, while circumventing its stringent lattice matching and processing compatibility requirements; conversely, it ensures the full flexibility of vdW epitaxy, while avoiding its poor orientation control. Cr5Te8 2D crystals grown by dative epitaxy exhibit square magnetic hysteresis, suggesting minimized interfacial defects that can serve as pinning sites.
