Do neutrino flavor oscillations forbid large lepton asymmetry of the universe ?

It is shown that hypothetical neutrino-majoron coupling can suppress neutrino flavor oscillations in the early universe, in contrast to the usual weak interaction case. This reopens a window for a noticeable cosmological lepton asymmetry which is forbidden for the large mixing angle solution in the case of standard interactions of neutrinos.

Q-ball Metamorphosis

Flat directions in the minimal supersymmetric standard model are known to deform into non-topological solitons, Q-balls, which generally possess both baryon and lepton asymmetries. We investigate how Q-balls evolve if some of the constituent fields of the flat direction decay into light species. It is found that the Q-balls takes a new configuration whose energy per charge slightly increases due to the decay. Specifically, we show that all the stable Q-balls eventually transform into pure B-balls via the decay into neutrinos.

Baryogenesis in a flat direction with neither baryon nor lepton charge

We present a new mechanism of spontaneous baryogenesis. Usually such mechanisms require a derivative coupling between a scalar field and baryon current. In our model, the scalar field instead derivatively couples to a current associated with some global symmetry $U(1)_Q$. In this case, baryogenesis is still possible provided that an interaction exists, which violates the baryon and $U(1)_Q$ symmetries simultaneously. As a concrete example, we discuss baryogenesis in a flat direction with neither baryon nor lepton charge.

MSSM curvaton in the gauge-mediated SUSY breaking

We study the curvaton scenario using the MSSM flat directions in the gauge-mediated SUSY breaking model. We find that the fluctuations in the both radial and phase directions can be responsible for the density perturbations in the universe through the curvaton mechanism. Although it has been considered difficult to have a successful curvaton scenario with the use of those flat directions, it is overcome by taking account of the finite temperature effects, which induce a negative thermal logarithmic term in the effective potential of the flat direction.

Curvatons in Supersymmetric Models

We study the curvaton scenario in supersymmetric framework paying particular attention to the fact that scalar fields are inevitably complex in supersymmetric theories. If there are more than one scalar fields associated with the curvaton mechanism, isocurvature (entropy) fluctuations between those fields in general arise, which may significantly affect the properties of the cosmic density fluctuations. We examine several candidates for the curvaton in the supersymmetric framework, such as moduli fields, Affleck-Dine field, $F$- and $D$-flat directions, and right-handed sneutrino. We estimate how the isocurvature fluctuations generated in each case affect the cosmic microwave background angular power spectrum. With the use of the recent observational result of the WMAP, stringent constraints on the models are derived and, in particular, it is seen that large fraction of the parameter space is excluded if the Affleck-Dine field plays the role of the curvaton field. Natural and well-motivated candidates of the curvaton are also listed.

Inflation model with lower multipoles of the CMB suppressed

The recent observation of the cosmic microwave background anisotropy by the WMAP confirmed that the lower multipoles are considerably suppressed. From the standpoint of the cosmic variance, it is nothing but a statistical accident. Alternatively, one can attribute the deficit of fluctuation on the large scale to the cosmic history, which might be explained in the context of the inflationary physics. In this paper, we show that it is possible to explain the suppressed lower multipoles in the hybrid new inflation model.

Affleck-Dine mechanism with negative thermal logarithmic potential

We investigate whether the Affleck-Dine (AD) mechanism works when the contribution of the two-loop thermal correction to the potential is negative in the gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking models. The AD field is trapped far away from the origin by the negative thermal correction for a long time until the temperature of the universe becomes low enough. The most striking feature is that the Hubble parameter becomes much smaller than the mass scale of the radial component of the AD field, during the trap. Then, the amplitude of the AD field decreases so slowly that the baryon number is not fixed even after the onset of radial oscillation. The resultant baryon asymmetry crucially depends on whether the Hubble parameter, $H$, is larger than the mass scale of the phase component of the AD field, $M_θ$, at the beginning of oscillation. If $H < M_θ$ holds, the formation of Q balls plays an essential role to determine the baryon number, which is found to be washed out due to the nonlinear dynamics of Q-ball formation. On the other hand, if $H > M_θ$ holds, it is found that the dynamics of Q-ball formation does not affect the baryon asymmetry, and that it is possible to generate the right amount of the baryon asymmetry.

I-balls

We find that there exists a soliton-like solution ``I-ball'' in theories of a real scalar field if the scalar potential satisfies appropriate conditions. Although the I-ball does not have any topological or global U(1) charges, its stability is ensured by the adiabatic invariance for the oscillating field.

Large lepton asymmetry from Q-balls

We propose a scenario which can explain large lepton asymmetry and small baryon asymmetry simultaneously. Large lepton asymmetry is generated through Affleck-Dine (AD) mechanism and almost all the produced lepton numbers are absorbed into Q-balls (L-balls). If the lifetime of the L-balls is longer than the onset of electroweak phase transition but shorter than the epoch of big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN), the large lepton asymmetry in the L-balls is protected from sphaleron effects. On the other hand, small (negative) lepton numbers are evaporated from the L-balls due to thermal effects, which are converted into the observed small baryon asymmetry by virtue of sphaleron effects. Large and positive lepton asymmetry of electron type is often requested from BBN. In our scenario, choosing an appropriate flat direction in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), we can produce positive lepton asymmetry of electron type but totally negative lepton asymmetry.

On the Moduli Problem and Baryogenesis in Gauge-mediated SUSY Breaking Models

We investigate whether the Affleck-Dine mechanism can produce sufficient baryon number of the universe in the gauge-mediated SUSY breaking models, while evading the cosmological moduli problem by late-time entropy production. We find that the Q-ball formation renders the scenario very difficult to work, irrespective of the detail mechanism of the entropy production.

Adiabatic and isocurvature fluctuations of Affleck-Dine field in D-term inflation model

We reconsider fluctuations of Affleck-Dine (AD) field in a D-term inflation model. Contrary to the previous analysis, we find that the spectrum of the adiabatic fluctuations is almost scale invariant even if the AD field has a large initial value. Furthermore, we study the isocurvature fluctuations of the AD field and estimate the ratio of the isocurvature to adiabatic power spectrum. The dynamics of the inflaton and AD fields sets the upper bound for the value of the AD field, leading to a lower limit for isocurvature perturbation. It is shown that the recent Cosmic Microwave Background data give a constraint on the D-term inflation and the AD field.
