Anisotropic compact stars in higher-order curvature theory

In this paper, we shall consider spherically symmetric spacetime solutions describing the interior of stellar compact objects, in the context of higher-order curvature theory of the f(R) type. We shall derive the non--vacuum field equations of the higher-order curvature theory, without assuming any specific form of the $\mathrm{f(R)}$ theory, specifying the analysis for a spherically symmetric spacetime with two unknown functions. We obtain a system of highly non-linear differential equations, which consists of four differential equations with six unknown functions. To solve such a system, we assume a specific form of metric potentials, using the Krori-Barua ansatz. We successfully solve the system of differential equations, and we derive all the components of the energy-momentum tensor. Moreover, we derive the non-trivial general form of $\mathrm{f(R)}$ that may generate such solutions and calculate the dynamic Ricci scalar of the anisotropic star. Accordingly, we calculate the asymptotic form of the function $\mathrm{f(R)}$, which is a polynomial function. We match the derived interior solution with the exterior one, which was derived in \cite{Nashed:2019tuk}, with the latter also resulting in a non-trivial form of the Ricci scalar. Notably but rather expected, the exterior solution differs from the Schwarzschild one in the context of general relativity. The matching procedure will eventually relate two constants with the mass and radius of the compact stellar object. We list the necessary conditions that any compact anisotropic star must satisfy and explain in detail that our model bypasses all of these conditions for a special compact star $\textit {Her X--1 }$, which has an estimated mass and radius \textit {(mass = 0.85 $\pm 0.15M_{\circledcirc}$\,\, and\, \,radius $= 8.1 \pm 0.41$km)}.

Anisotropic compact stars in $f(R)$ gravity

We derive a new interior solution for stellar compact objects in $f\mathcal{(R)}$ gravity assuming a differential relation to constrain the Ricci curvature scalar. To this aim, we consider specific forms for the radial component of the metric and the first derivative of $f\mathcal{(R)}$. After, the time component of the metric potential and the form of $f(\mathcal R)$ function are derived. From these results, it is possible to obtain the radial and tangential components of pressure and the density. The resulting interior solution represents a physically motivated anisotropic neutron star model. It is possible to match it with a boundary exterior solution. From this matching, the components of metric potentials can be rewritten in terms of a compactness parameter $C$ which has to be $C=2GM/Rc^2 <<0.5$ for physical consistency. Other physical conditions for real stellar objects are taken into account according to the solution. We show that the model accurately bypasses conditions like the finiteness of radial and tangential pressures, and energy density at the center of the star, the positivity of these components through the stellar structure, and the negativity of the gradients. These conditions are satisfied if the energy-conditions hold. Moreover, we study the stability of the model by showing that Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation is at hydrostatic equilibrium. The solution is matched with observational data of millisecond pulsars with a withe dwarf companion and pulsars presenting thermonuclear bursts.

Quadratic and cubic spherically symmetric black holes in the modified teleparallel equivalent of general relativity: Energy and thermodynamics

In \cite{Bahamonde:2019zea}, a spherically symmetric black hole (BH) was derived from the quadratic form of $f(T)$. Here we derive the associated energy, invariants of curvature, and torsion of this BH and demonstrate that the higher-order contribution of torsion renders the singularity weaker compared with the Schwarzschild BH of general relativity (GR). Moreover, we calculate the thermodynamic quantities and reveal the effect of the higher--order contribution on these quantities. Therefore, we derive a new spherically symmetric BH from the cubic form of $f(T)=T+ε\Big[\frac{1}{2}αT^2+\frac{1}{3}βT^3\Big]$, where $ε<<1$, $α$, and $β$ are constants. The new BH is characterized by the two constants $α$ and $β$ in addition to $ε$. At $ε=0$ we return to GR. We study the physics of these new BH solutions via the same procedure that was applied for the quadratic BH. Moreover, we demonstrate that the contribution of the higher-order torsion, $\frac{1}{2}αT^2+\frac{1}{3}βT^3$, may afford an interesting physics.

Higher dimensional rotating black hole solutions in quadratic $f(R)$ gravitational theory and the conserved quantities

We explore the quadratic form of the $f(R)=R+bR^2$ gravitational theory to derive rotating $N$-dimensions black hole solutions with $a_i, i\geq 1$ rotation parameters. Here, $R$ is the Ricci scalar, and $b$ is the dimensional parameter. We assumed that the $N$-dimensional spacetime is static and has flat horizons with a zero curvature boundary. We investigated the physics of black holes by calculating the relations of physical quantities such as the horizon radius and mass. We also demonstrate that in the four-dimensional case, the higher-order curvature does not contribute to the black hole,i.e., black hole does not depend on the dimensional parameter $b$ whereas in the case of $N>4$, it depends on parameter $b$ owing to the contribution of the correction $R^2$ term. We analyze the conserved quantities, energy, and angular-momentum, of black hole solutions by applying the relocalization method. Additionally, we calculate the thermodynamic quantities such as temperature and entropy and examine the stability of black hole solutions locally and show that they have thermodynamic stability. Moreover, the calculations of entropy put a constraint on the parameter $b$ to be $b<\frac{1}{16Λ}$ to obtain a positive entropy.

New rotating AdS/dS black holes in $\mathrm{f(R)}$ gravity

It is known that general relativity (GR) theory is not consistent with the latest observations. The modified gravity of GR known as $\mathrm{f(R)}$ where $\mathrm{R}$ is the Ricci scalar, is considered to be a good candidate for dealing with the anomalies present in classical GR. In this context, we study static rotating uncharged anti-de Sitter and de Sitter (AdS and dS) black holes (BHs) using $\mathrm{f(R)}$ theory without assuming any constraints on the Ricci scalar or on $\mathrm{f(R)}$. We derive BH solutions depend on the convolution function and deviate from the AdS/dS Schwarzschild BH solution of GR. Although the field equations have no dependence on the cosmological constant, the BHs are characterized by an effective cosmological constant that depends on the convolution function. The asymptotic form of this BH solution depends on the gravitational mass of the system and on extra terms that lead to BHs being different from GR BHs but to correspond to GR BHs under certain conditions. We also investigate how these extra terms are responsible for making the singularities of the invariants milder than those of the GR BHs. We study some physical properties of the BHs from the point of view of thermodynamics and show that there is an outer event horizon in addition to the inner Cauchy horizons. Among other things, we show that our BH solutions satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. To check the stability of these BHs we use the geodesic deviations and derive the stability conditions. Finally, using the odd-type mode it is shown that all the derived BHs are stable and have a radial speed equal to one.

Uniqueness of non-trivial spherically symmetric black hole solution in special classes of F(R) gravitational theory

We show, in detail, that the only non-trivial black hole (BH) solutions for a neutral as well as a charged spherically symmetric space-times, using the class ${\textit F(R)}={\textit R}\pm{\textit F_1 (R)} $, must-have metric potentials in the form $h(r)=\frac{1}{2}-\frac{2M}{r}$ and $h(r)=\frac{1}{2}-\frac{2M}{r}+\frac{q^2}{r^2}$. These BHs have a non-trivial form of Ricci scalar, i.e., $R=\frac{1}{r^2}$ and the form of ${\textit F_1 (R)}=\mp\frac{\sqrt{\textit R}} {3M} $. We repeat the same procedure for (Anti-)de Sitter, (A)dS, space-time and got the metric potentials of neutral as well as charged in the form $h(r)=\frac{1}{2}-\frac{2M}{r}-\frac{2Λr^2} {3} $ and $h(r)=\frac{1}{2}-\frac{2M}{r}+\frac{q^2}{r^2}-\frac{2Λr^2} {3} $, respectively. The Ricci scalar of the (A)dS space-times has the form ${\textit R}=\frac{1+8r^2Λ}{r^2}$ and the form of ${\textit F_1(R)}=\mp\frac{\textit 2\sqrt{R-8Λ}}{3M}$. We calculate the thermodynamical quantities, Hawking temperature, entropy, quasi-local energy, and Gibbs-free energy for all the derived BHs, that behaves asymptotically as flat and (A)dS, and show that they give acceptable physical thermodynamical quantities consistent with the literature. Finally, we prove the validity of the first law of thermodynamics for those BHs.

New rotating black holes in non-linear Maxwell $f({\cal R})$ gravity

We investigate static and rotating charged spherically symmetric solutions in the framework of $f({\cal R})$ gravity, allowing additionally the electromagnetic sector to depart from linearity. Applying a convenient, dual description for the electromagnetic Lagrangian, and using as an example the square-root $f({\cal R})$ correction, we solve analytically the involved field equations. The obtained solutions belong to two branches, one that contains the Kerr-Newman solution of general relativity as a particular limit and one that arises purely from the gravitational modification. The novel black hole solution has a true central singularity which is hidden behind a horizon, however for particular parameter regions it becomes a naked one. Furthermore, we investigate the thermodynamical properties of the solutions, such as the temperature, energy, entropy, heat capacity and Gibbs free energy. We extract the entropy and quasilocal energy positivity conditions, we show that negative-temperature, ultracold, black holes are possible, and we show that the obtained solutions are thermodynamically stable for suitable model parameter regions.

Non-trivial black hole solutions in $\mathit{f(R)}$ gravitational theory

Recent observation shows that general relativity (GR) is not valid in the strong regime. $\mathit{f(R)}$ gravity where $\mathit{R}$ is the Ricci scalar, is regarded to be one of good candidates able to cure the anomalies appeared in the conventional general relativity. In this realm, we apply the equation of motions of $\mathit{f(R)}$ gravity to a spherically symmetric spacetime with two unknown functions and derive original black hole (BH) solutions without any constrains on the Ricci scalar as well as on the form of $\mathit{f(R)}$ gravity. Those solutions depend on a convolution function and are deviating from the Schwarzschild solution of the Einstein GR. These solutions are characterized by the gravitational mass of the system and the convolution function that in the asymptotic form gives extra terms that are responsible to make such BHs different from GR. Also, we show that these extra terms make the singularities of the invariants much weaker than those of the GR BH. We analyze such BHs using the trend of thermodynamics and show their consistency with the well known quantities in thermodynamics like the Hawking radiation, entropy and quasi-local energy. We also show that our BH solutions satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. Moreover, we study the stability analysis using the odd-type mode and shows that all the derived BHs are stable and have radial speed equal to one. Finally, using the geodesic deviations we derive the stability conditions of these BHs.

Charged (A)dS black hole solutions in conformal teleparallel equivalent of general relativity

We continue our study in 4-dimension to derive non-charged and charged (Anti)-de Sitter black hole solutions in conformal teleparallel equivalent of general relativity. The non-charged and charged equations of motion are applied to a spherically symmetric tetrad and the non-linear differential equations are derived. It is shown that the output solutions of the two cases are identical to those obtained in teleparallel equivalent theory to general relativity. As a result, it is found that in the conformal teleparallel equivalent theory to general relativity, the scalar field cannot influence on the manifold of spherical symmetry, i.e. the scalar field must equal 1 in order to have a well known asymptote spacetime.

Charged spherically symmetric Taub-NUT black hole solutions in $f(R)$ gravity

$f(R)$ theory is a modification of Einstein general relativity which has many interesting results in cosmology and astrophysics. To derive black hole solution in this theory is difficult due to the fact that it is fourth order differential equations. In this study, we use the first reliable deviation from general relativity which is given by the quadratic form of $f(R)=R+βR^2$, where $β$ is a dimensional parameter. We calculate the energy conditions of the charged black holes and show that all of them are satisfied for the Taub-NUT spacetime. Finally, we study some thermodynamic quantities such as entropy, temperature, specific heat and Gibbs free energy. The calculations of heat capacity and free energy show that the charged Taub-NUT black hole have positive values which means that it has thermal stability.

Neutral compact spherically symmetric stars in teleparallel gravity

We present novel neutral and uncharged solutions that describe the cluster of Einstein in the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity (TEGR). To this end, we use a tetrad field with non-diagonal spherical symmetry which gives the vanishing of the off-diagonal components for the gravitational field equations in the TEGR theory. The clusters are calculated by using an anisotropic energy-momentum tensor. We solve the field equations of TEGR theory, using two assumptions: the first one is by using an equation of state that relates density with tangential pressure while the second postulate is to assume a specific form of one of the two unknown functions that appear in the non-diagonal tetrad field. Among many things presented in this study, we investigate the static stability specification. We also study the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation of these solutions in addition to the conditions of energy. The causality constraints with the adiabatic index in terms of the limit of stability are discussed.

Spherically symmetric black holes with electric and magnetic charge in extended gravity: Physical properties, causal structure, and stability analysis in Einstein's and Jordan's frames

Novel static black hole solutions with electric and magnetic charges are derived for the class of modified gravities: $f({\cal R})={\cal R}+2β\sqrt{\cal R}$, with or without a cosmological constant. The new black holes behave asymptotically as flat or (A)dS space-times with a dynamical value of the Ricci scalar given by $R=\frac{1}{r^2}$ and $R=\frac{8r^2Λ+1}{r^2}$, respectively. They are characterized by three parameters, namely their mass and electric and magnetic charges, and constitute black hole solutions different from those in Einstein's general relativity. Their singularities are studied by obtaining the Kretschmann scalar and Ricci tensor, which shows a dependence on the parameter $β$ that is not permitted to be zero. A conformal transformation is used to display the black holes in Einstein's frame and check if its physical behavior is changed w.r.t. the Jordan one. The thermal stability of the solutions is discussed by using thermodynamical quantities, in particular the entropy, the Hawking temperature, the quasi-local energy, and the Gibbs free energy. Also, the casual structure of the new black holes is studied, and a stability analysis is performed in both frames using the odd perturbations technique and the study of the geodesic deviation. It is concluded that, generically, there is coincidence of the physical properties of the novel black holes in both frames, although this turns not to be the case for the Hawking temperature.

Thermodynamical correspondence of $f(R)$ gravity in Jordan and Einstein frames

We study the thermodynamical aspects of $f(R)$ gravity in the Jordan and the Einstein frame, and we investigate the corresponding equivalence of the thermodynamical quantities in the two frames. We examine static spherically symmetric black hole solutions with constant Ricci scalar curvature $R$, and as we demonstrate, the thermodynamical quantities in the two frames are equivalent. However, for the case of black holes with non-constant scalar curvature $R$, the thermodynamical equivalence of the two frames is no longer valid. In addition, we examine cosmological solutions with non-trivial curvatures and as we demonstrate the thermodynamical quantities in both frames are not equivalent. In conclusion, although $f(R)$ gravity and its corresponding scalar-tensor theory are mathematically equivalent, at least for conformal invariant quantities, the two frames are not thermodynamically equivalent at a quantitative level, in terms of several physical quantities.

Phenomenological Reconstruction of $f(T)$ Teleparallel Gravity

We present a novel reconstruction method of $f(T)$ teleparallel gravity from phenomenological parameterizations of the deceleration parameter or other alternatives. This can be used as a toolkit to produce viable modified gravity scenarios directly related to cosmological observations. We test two parameterizations of the deceleration parameter considered in recent literatures in addition to one parametrization of the effective (total) equation of state (EoS) of the universe. We use the asymptotic behaviour of the matter density parameter as an extra constraint to identify the viable range of the model parameters. One of the tested models shows how tiny modification can produce viable cosmic scenarios quantitatively similar to $Λ$CDM but qualitatively different whereas the dark energy (DE) sector becomes dynamical and fully explained by modified gravity not by a cosmological constant.

Rotating charged AdS solutions in quadratic $f(T)$ gravity

We present a class of asymptotically anti-de Sitter charged rotating black hole solutions in $f(T)$ gravity in $N$-dimensions, where $f(T)=T+αT^{2}$. These solutions are nontrivial extensions of the solutions presented in \cite{Lemos:1994xp} and \cite{Awad:2002cz} in the context of general relativity. They are characterized by cylindrical, toroidal or flat horizons, depending on global identifications. The static charged black hole configurations obtained in \cite{Awad:2017tyz} are recovered as special cases when the rotation parameters vanish. Similar to \cite{Awad:2017tyz} the static black holes solutions have two different electric multipole terms in the potential with related moments. Furthermore, these solutions have milder singularities compared to their general relativity counterparts. Using the conserved charges expressions obtained in \cite{Ulhoa:2013gca} and \cite{Maluf:2008ug} we calculate the total mass/energy and the angular momentum of these solutions.

Rotating AdS black holes in Maxwell-$f(T)$ gravity

The investigation on higher-dimensional AdS black holes is of great importance under the light of AdS/CFT correspondence. In this work we study static and rotating, uncharged and charged, AdS black holes in higher-dimensional $f(T)$ gravity, focusing on the power-law ansatz which is the most viable according to observations. We extract AdS solutions characterized by an effective cosmological constant that depends on the parameters of the $f(T)$ modification, as well as on the electric charge, even if the explicit cosmological constant is absent. These solutions do not have a general relativity or an uncharged limit, hence they correspond to a novel solution class, whose features arise solely from the torsional modification alongside the Maxwell sector incorporation. We examine the singularities of the solutions, calculating the values of various curvature and torsion invariants, finding that they do possess the central singularity, which however is softer comparing to standard general relativity case due to the $f(T)$ effect. Additionally, we investigate the horizons structure, showing that the solutions possess an inner Cauchy horizon as well as an outer event one, nevertheless for suitably large electric charge and small mass we obtain the appearance of a naked singularity. Finally, we calculate the energy of the obtained solutions, showing that the $f(T)$ modification affects the mass term.

Charged rotating black holes coupled with nonlinear electrodynamics Maxwell field in the mimetic gravity

In mimetic gravity, we derive $D$-dimension charged black hole solutions having flat or cylindrical horizons with zero curvature boundary. The asymptotic behaviours of these black holes behave as (A)dS. We study both linear and nonlinear forms of the Maxwell field equations in two separate contexts. For the nonlinear case, we derive a new solution having a metric with monopole, dipole and quadrupole terms. The most interesting feature of this black hole is that its dipole and quadruple terms are related by a constant. However, the solution reduces to the linear case of the Maxwell field equations when this constant acquires a null value. Also, we apply a coordinate transformation and derive rotating black hole solutions (for both linear and nonlinear cases). We show that the nonlinear black hole has stronger curvature singularities than the corresponding known black hole solutions in general relativity. We show that the obtained solutions could have at most two horizons. We determine the critical mass of the degenerate horizon at which the two horizons coincide. We study the thermodynamical stability of the solutions. We note that the nonlinear electrodynamics contributes to process a second-order phase transition whereas the heat capacity has an infinite discontinuity.

Spherically symmetric charged black hole in conformal teleparallel equivalent of general relativity

We study 4-dimensional non-charged and charged spherically symmetric spacetimes in conformal teleparallel equivalent of general relativity. We apply the gravitational field equations in non-charged and charged spacetimes to the diagonal and non-diagonal vierbeins and derive their sets of the non-linear differential equations. It is demonstrated that the Schwarzschild, for the non-charged case, and the Reissner-Nordström, for the charged case, are the only black hole solutions for the spherically symmetric case in the framework of the conformal teleparallel equivalent of general relativity theory. As a result, it is found that in the conformal teleparallel equivalent of general relativity theory, the scalar field cannot have any effect for the spherically symmetric manifold.
