Orbital to charge current conversion in copper oxide heterostructures

We investigate the orbital-to-charge current conversion in CoFeB|CuO bilayers as a function of CuO thickness, employing orbital pumping via ferromagnetic resonance. The dynamic injection of orbital angular momentum into the CuO layer generates a transverse voltage through the Inverse Orbital Hall Effect (IOHE). By systematically varying the CuO thickness from 2 nm to 30 nm, we observe a pronounced dependence of the IOHE-induced voltage on the CuO layer thickness, indicating efficient orbital-to-charge conversion. These results highlight the key role of the orbital degree of freedom in orbitronics and provide insights into the potential of transition-metal oxides for next-generation orbitronic devices.

Snowmass2021 Cosmic Frontier: The landscape of low-threshold dark matter direct detection in the next decade

The search for particle-like dark matter with meV-to-GeV masses has developed rapidly in the past few years. We summarize the science case for these searches, the recent progress, and the exciting upcoming opportunities. Funding for Research and Development and a portfolio of small dark matter projects will allow the community to capitalize on the substantial recent advances in theory and experiment and probe vast regions of unexplored dark-matter parameter space in the coming decade.

Latin American HECAP Physics Briefing Book

For the first time the scientific community in Latin America working at the forefront of research in high energy, cosmology and astroparticle physics (HECAP) have come together to discuss and provide scientific input towards the development of a regional strategy. The present document, the Latin American HECAP Physics Briefing Book, is the result of this ambitious bottom-up effort. This report contains the work performed by the Preparatory Group to synthesize the main contributions and discussions for each of the topical working groups. This briefing book discusses the relevant emerging projects developing in the region and considers potentially impactful future initiatives and participation of the Latin American HECAP community in international flagship projects to provide the essential input for the creation of a long-term HECAP strategy in the region.

ACORDE a Cosmic Ray Detector for ALICE

ACORDE is one of the ALICE detectors, presently under construction at CERN. It consists of an array of plastic scintillator counters placed on the three upper faces of the ALICE magnet. It will act as a cosmic ray trigger, and, together with other ALICE sub-detectors, will provide precise information on cosmic rays with primary energies around $10^{15} ÷10^{-17}$ eV. Here we describe the design review of ACORDE along with the present status and integration into ALICE.

Longitudinal $\bar Λ_0$ polarization in heavy ion collisions as a probe for QGP formation

We present an analysis of the longitudinal $\bar Λ_0$ polarization in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The polarization of $\bar Λ_0$'s coming from the decay chain $\barΞ\to \barΛ_0+π$ exhibits a very well differentiated behavior depending on the production region of the primordial $\bar Ξ$'s. This effect reflects the different values of the $N_{\bar Ξ}/N_{\bar Λ_0}$ ratio in the QGP region, where nucleon-nucleon interactions take place in a hot and dense environment, and the peripherical region, in which ordinary nucleon-nucleon interactions occur. An increase in the longitudinal $\bar Λ_0$ polarization signals a strangeness enhancement which is thought as a property of the QGP phase.

Dalitz plot slope parameters for $K \to πππ$ decays and two particle interference

We study the possible distortion of phase-space in the decays $K \to πππ$, which may result from final state interference among the decay products. Such distortion may influence the values of slope parameters extracted from the Dalitz plot distribution of these decays. We comment on the consequences on the magnitude of violation of the $\mid ΔI \mid = 1/2$ rule in these decays.

On the intrinsic charm and the recombination mechanisms in charm hadron production

We study $Λ_c^\pm$ production in $pN$ and $π^-N$ interactions. Recent experimental data from the SELEX and E791 Collaborations at FNAL provide important information on the production mechanism of charm hadrons. In particular, the production of the $Λ_c$ baryon provides a good test of the intrinsic charm and the recombination mechanisms, which have been proposed to explain the so called leading particle effects.

Production asymmetry of D mesons in $γp$ collisions

We study the production asymmetry of charm versus anticharm mesons in photon-proton interactions. We consider photon gluon fusion plus higher order corrections in which light quarks through vector meson-proton interactions contribute to the cross section. Non perturbative effects are included in terms of a recombination mechanism which gives rise to a production asymmetry.

Charge Asymmetries in charm photoproduction

Charm quarks are expected to be produced mainly by the photon-gluon fusion mechanism in photon-Nucleon interactions. However, a small part of the total charm cross section originates in similar processes to those appearing in charm hadroproduction through the resolved (hadronic) component of the photon. Although the contribution of the resolved part of the photon is small at fixed target energies, it can help to understand the small but sizeable charge asymmetries measured in charm hadron photoproduction experiments.

Effect of residual Bose-Einstein correlations on the Dalitz plot of hadronic charm meson decay

We show that the presence of residual Bose-Einstein correlations may affect the resonant contribution of hadronic charm decays where two identical pions appear in the final state. The distortion of the phase space of the reaction would be visible in the dalitz plot. The decay D+ --> K- pi+ pi+ is discussed but results can be generalized to any decay with identical bosons.

Lambda_c/Lambda_c-bar production asymmetries in pp and pi^- p collisions

We study Lambda_c/Lambda}_c-bar production asymmetries in pp and pi- p collisions using a recently proposed two component model. The model includes heavy baryon production by the usual mechanism of parton fusion and fragmentation plus recombination of valence and sea quarks from the beam and target hadrons. We compare our results with experimental data on asymmetries measured recently.

D+- and D0 (anti D0) production asymetries in pion-proton collisions

We use a two-component model to describe the production mechanism of D mesons in pi-p collisions. The model combines the usual QCD processes plus fragmentation and recombination of charm that has been produced by nonperturbative QCD mechanisms. A hard charm component in the pion must be responsible of the particle anti-particle production asymmetries observed.

Production and polarization of $Λ_c^+$ and the charm of the proton

We propose a two-component model involving the parton fusion mechanism and recombination of a $ud$ valence diquark with a sea $c$-quark of the incident proton to describe $Λ_c^+$ inclusive production in $pp$ collisions. We also study the polarization of the produced $Λ_c^+$ in the framework of the Thomas Precession Model for polarization. We show that a measurement of the $Λ_c$ polarization is a sensitive test of its production mechanism. In particular the intrinsic charm model predicts a positive polarization for the $Λ_c$ within the framework of the Thomas Precession Model, while according to the model presented here the $Λ_c$ polarization should be negative. The measurement of the $Λ_c$ polarization provides a close examination of intrinsic charm Fock states in the proton and give interesting information about the hadroproduction of charm.

The Charm of the Proton and the $Λ_c^{+}$ Production

We propose a two component model for charmed baryon production in $pp$ collisions consisting of the conventional parton fusion mechanism and fragmentation plus quarks recombination in which a $ud$ valence diquark from the proton recombines with a $c$-sea quark to produce a $Λ_c^+$. Our two-component model is compared with the intrinsic charm two-component model and experimental data.

The $Λ_0$ Polarization and the Recombination Mechanism

We use the recombination and the Thomas Precession Model to obtain a prediction for the $Λ_0$ polarization in the $p+p \to Λ_0+X$ reaction. We study the effect of the recombination function on the $Λ_0$ polarization.

Asymmetries between the production of D+ and D- mesons from 500 GeV/c pi- nucleon interactions as a function of xF and pt**2

We present asymmetries between the production of D+ and D- mesons in Fermilab experiment E791 as a function of xF and pt**2. The data used here consist of 74,000 fully-reconstructed charmed mesons produced by a 500 GeV/c pi- beam on C and Pt foils. The measurements are compared to results of models which predict differences between the production of heavy-quark mesons that have a light quark in common with the beam (leading particles) and those that do not (non-leading particles). While the default models do not agree with our data, we can reach agreement with one of them, PYTHIA, by making a limited number of changes to parameters used.
