Measures of critical exponents in the four dimensional site percolation

Using finite-size scaling methods we measure the thermal and magnetic exponents of the site percolation in four dimensions, obtaining a value for the anomalous dimension very different from the results found in the literature. We also obtain the leading corrections-to-scaling exponent and, with great accuracy, the critical density.

Fluctuations in a Spin Glass model with 1RSB

We discuss Gaussian fluctuations in a spin glass model with one replica symmetry breaking. We show how non-perturbative fluctuations of the break-point parameter can be included in the longitudinal propagator within linear response theory.

On infrared divergences in spin glasses

By studying the structure of infrared divergences in a toy propagator in the replica approach to the Ising spin glass below $T_c$, we suggest a possible cancellation mechanism which could decrease the degree of singularity in the loop expansion.

Closure of the Monte Carlo dynamical equations in the spherical Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model

We study the analytical solution of the Monte Carlo dynamics in the spherical Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model using the technique of the generating function. Explicit solutions for one-time observables (like the energy) and two-time observables (like the correlation and response function) are obtained. We show that the crucial quantity which governs the dynamics is the acceptance rate. At zero temperature, an adiabatic approximation reveals that the relaxational behavior of the model corresponds to that of a single harmonic oscillator with an effective renormalized mass.

Glue Ball Masses and the Chameleon Gauge

We introduce a new numerical technique to compute mass spectra, based on difference method and on a new gauge fixing procedure. We show that the method is very effective by test runs on a $SU(2)$ lattice gauge theory.

Closing probabilities in the Kauffman model: an annealed computation

We define a probabilistic scheme to compute the distributions of periods, transients and weigths of attraction basins in Kauffman networks. These quantities are obtained in the framework of the annealed approximation, first introduced by Derrida and Pomeau. Numerical results are in good agreement with the computed values of the exponents of average periods, but show also some interesting features which can not be explained whithin the annealed approximation.

Analytical solution of the Monte Carlo dynamics of a simple spin-glass model

In this note we present an exact solution of the Monte Carlo dynamics of the spherical Sherrington-Kirkpatrick spin-glass model. We obtain the dynamical equations for a generalized set of moments which can be exactly closed. Only in a certain particular limit the dynamical equation of the energy coincides with that of the Langevin dynamics.

Series Expansion of the Off-Equilibrium Mode Coupling Equations

We show that computing the coefficients of the Taylor expansion of the solution of the off-equilibrium dynamical equations characterizing models with quenched disorder is a very effective way to understand the long time asymptotic behavior. We study the $p=3$ spherical spin glass model, and we compute the asymptotic energy (in the critical region and down to $T=0$) and the coefficients of the time decay of the energy.

Recipes for metastable states in Spin Glasses

In this paper we develop a method introduced by one of us to study metastable states in spin glasses. We consider a `potential function' defined as the free energy of a system at a given temperature $T$ constrained to have a fixed overlap with a reference configuration of equilibrium at temperature $T'$. We apply the method to the spherical p-spin glass and to some generalization of this model in the range of temperatures between the dynamic and the static transition. The analysis suggests a correspondence among local minima of the potential and metastable states. This correspondence is confirmed studying the relaxation dynamics at temperature $T$ of a system starting from an initial configuration equilibrated at a different temperature $T'$.

SCALING AND INTERMITTENCY IN BURGERS' TURBULENCE

We use the mapping between Burgers' equation and the problem of a directed polymer in a random medium in order to study the fully developped turbulence in the $N$ dimensional forced Burgers' equation. The stirring force corresponds to a quenched (spatio temporal) random potential for the polymer. The properties of the inertial regime are deduced from a study of the directed polymer on length scales smaller than the correlation length of the potential. From this study we propose an Ansatz for the velocity field in the large Reynolds number limit of the forced Burgers' equation in $N$ dimensions. This Ansatz allows us to compute exactly the full probability distribution of the velocity difference $u(r)$ between points separated by a distance $r$ much smaller than the correlation length of the forcing. We find that the moments $ $ scale as $r^{ζ(q)}$ with $ζ(q) \equiv 1$ for all $q \geq 1$. This strong `intermittency' is related to the large scale singularities of the velocity field, which is concentrated on a $N-1$ dimensional froth-like structure.

On the out of equilibrium order parameters in long-range spin-glases

We show that the dynamical order parameters can be reexpressed in terms of the distribution of the staggered auto-correlation and response functions. We calculate these distributions for the out of equilibrium dynamics of the Sherrington-Kirpatrick model at long times. The results suggest that the landscape this model visits at different long times in an out of equilibrium relaxation process is, in a sense, self-similar. Furthermore, there is a similarity between the landscape seen out of equilibrium at long times and the equilibrium landscape. The calculation is greatly simplified by making use of the superspace notation in the dynamical approach. This notation also highlights the rather mysterious formal connection between the dynamical and replica approaches.

Matrix models as solvable glass models

We present a family of solvable models of interacting particles in high dimensionalities without quenched disorder. We show that the models have a glassy regime with aging effects. The interaction is controlled by a parameter $p$. For $p=2$ we obtain matrix models and for $p>2$ `tensor' models. We concentrate on the cases $p=2$ which we study analytically and numerically.

Off equilibrium dynamics and aging in unfrustrated systems

We analyse the Langevin dynamics of the random walk, the scalar field, the X-Y model and the spinoidal decomposition. We study the deviations from the equilibrium dynamics theorems (FDT and homogeneity), the asymptotic behaviour of the systems and the aging phenomena. We compare the results with the dynamical behaviour of (random) spin-glass mean-field models.

Replica Field Theory for Deterministic Models: Binary Sequences with Low Autocorrelation

We study systems without quenched disorder with a complex landscape, and we use replica symmetry theory to describe them. We discuss the Golay-Bernasconi-Derrida approximation of the low autocorrelation model, and we reconstruct it by using replica calculations. Then we consider the full model, its low $T$ properties (with the help of number theory) and a Hartree-Fock resummation of the high-temperature series. We show that replica theory allows to solve the model in the high $T$ phase. Our solution is based on one-link integral techniques, and is based on substituting a Fourier transform with a generic unitary transformation. We discuss this approach as a powerful tool to describe systems with a complex landscape in the absence of quenched disorder.

Interfaces and Lower Critical Dimension in a Spin Glass Model

In this paper we try to estimate the lower critical dimension for replica symmetry breaking in spin glasses through the calculation of the additional free-energy required to create a domain wall between two different phases. This mechanism alone would say that replica symmetry would be restored at the lower critical dimension $D_c =2.5$.

On the 3d Ising Spin Glass

We study the $3d$ Ising spin glass with $\pm 1$ couplings. We introduce a modified local action. We use finite size scaling techniques and very large lattice simulations. We find that our data are compatible both with a finite $T$ transition and with a $T=0$ singularity of an unusual type.

Maximal Mean Field Solutions in the Random Field Ising Model: the Pattern of the Symmetry Breaking

In this note we study the mean field equations for the $3d$ Random Field Ising Model. We discuss the phase diagram of the model, and we address the problem of finding if such equations admit more than one solution. We find two different critical values of $β$: one where the magnetization takes a non-zero expectation value, and one where we start to have more than one solution to the mean field equation. We find that, inside a given solution, there are no divergent correlation lengths.
