The Supersymmetric CP problem in Orbifold Compactifications

The possibility of spontaneous breaking of CP symmetry by the expectation values of orbifold moduli is investigated with particular reference to $CP$ violating phases in soft supersymmetry breaking terms. The effect of different mechanisms for stabilizing the dilaton and the form of the non-perturbative superpotential on the existence and size of these phases is studied. Models with modular symmetries which are subgroups of $PSL(2,Z)$, as well as the single overall modulus $T$ case with the full $PSL(2,Z)$ modular symmetry, are discussed. Non-perturbative superpotentials involving the absolute modular invariant $j(T)$, such as may arise from F-theory compactifications, are considered.

Relic Abundances and Detection Rates of Neutralinos in String-Inpired Supergravity Models

We calculate ``relic abundances'' and ``detection rates'' of the neutralino (LSP) in string-inspired supergravity models with ``dilaton-moduli'' induced supersymmetry breaking. In particular we investigate ``universal'' scenarios for the soft-supersymmetry breaking terms from Calabi-Yau compactifications, as well as from the dilaton-dominated limit. ``Non-universal'' scenarios from orbifold string theory are also incorporated into the analysis. In all cases, in the cosmologically interesting region, we find $m_{LSP}\geq 50$ GeV and direct-detection rates in the range O($10^{-3}$ events/(Kg day)) - O($10^{-4}$ events/(Kg day)). ``Indirect-detection'' rates from LSPs captured in the Sun are also calculated.

The b--->sγ constraint in effective supergravities from string theory

We study the constraints from the $b{\rightarrow}sγ$ decay in the parameter space of effective supergravities from orbifold string theory and with minimal supesymmetric particle content. Both the general dilaton-dominated universal scenario as well as a non-universal scenario for the soft terms are investigated. It is found that the recently reported CLEO upper and lower bounds constrain the parameter space of the models under scrutiny. In particular we find constraints on the values of the parameter $\tanβ$ and the gluino masses. In this class of string scenarios the negative sign of the Higgs mixing parameter $μ$, is phenomenologically preferred.

The dilaton-dominated supersymmetry breaking scenario in the context of the non-minimal supersymmetric model

The phenomenological consequences of the dilaton-type soft supersymmetry breaking terms in the context of the next to minimal supersymmetric standard model are investigated. We always find a very low top quark mass. As a consequence such string vacua are excluded by recent experimental results. The viability of the solution of the $μ$ term through the introduction of a gauge singlet field is also briefly discussed.
