FeynHiggsFast: a program for a fast calculation of masses and mixing angles in the Higgs Sector of the MSSM

FeynHiggsFast is a Fortran code for the calculation of the masses and the mixing angle of the neutral CP-even Higgs bosons in the MSSM up to two-loop order. It is based on a compact analytical approximation formula of the complete diagrammatic one-loop and the dominant two-loop contributions. At the one-loop level a leading logarithmic result is used, taking into account all sectors of the MSSM. At the two-loop level at O(alpha alpha_s) the leading logarithmic and non-logarithmic contributions are taken into account. The approximation formula is valid for arbitrary choices of the parameters in the Higgs sector of the model. Comparing its quality to the full diagrammatic result, we find agreement better than 2 GeV for most parts of the MSSM parameter space.

Higher-order results in the Higgs sector of the MSSM

We analyze the impact of the recent Feynman-diagrammatic (FD) two-loop results for the mass of the lightest CP-even Higgs boson in the MSSM on the theoretical upper bound for mh as a function of tan(beta). The results are compared with previous results obtained by renormalization group (RG) methods. The incorporation of dominant FD two-loop corrections into the decay width Γ(h -> f \bar f) is also discussed.

Upper limit on mh in the MSSM and M-SUGRA vs. prospective reach of LEP

The upper limit on the lightest CP-even Higgs boson mass, mh, is analyzed within the MSSM as a function of tan(beta) for fixed mtop and Msusy. The impact of recent diagrammatic two-loop results on this limit is investigated. We compare the MSSM theoretical upper bound on mh with the lower bound obtained from experimental searches at LEP. We estimate that with the LEP data taken until the end of 1999, the region mh < 108.2 GeV can be excluded at the 95% confidence level. This corresponds to an excluded region 0.6 <= tan(beta) <= 1.9 within the MSSM for mtop = 174.3 GeV and Msusy <= 1 TeV. The final exclusion sensitivity after the end of LEP, in the year 2000, is also briefly discussed. Finally, we determine the upper limit on mh within the Minimal Supergravity (M-SUGRA) scenario up to the two-loop level, consistent with radiative electroweak symmetry breaking. We find an upper bound of mh \approx 127 GeV for mtop = 174.3 GeV in this scenario, which is slightly below the bound in the unconstrained MSSM.

Suggestions for Improved Benchmark Scenarios for Higgs-Boson Searches at LEP2

We suggest new benchmark scenarios for the Higgs-boson search at LEP2. Keeping m_t and M_SUSY fixed, we improve on the definition of the maximal mixing benchmark scenario defining precisely the values of all MSSM parameters such that the new m_h^max benchmark scenario yields the parameters which maximize the value of m_h for a given tan(beta). The corresponding scenario with vanishing mixing in the scalar top sector is also considered. We propose a further benchmark scenario with a relatively large value of |mu|, a moderate value of M_SUSY, and moderate mixing parameters in the scalar top sector. While the latter scenario yields m_h values that in principle allow to access the complete M_A-tan(beta)-plane at LEP2, on the other hand it contains parameter regions where the Higgs-boson detection can be difficult, because of a suppression of the branching ratio of its decay into bottom quarks.

Precise Calculations for the Neutral Higgs-Boson Masses in the MSSM

We review the comparison of the results for the neutral CP-even Higgs-boson masses recently obtained within the Feynman-diagrammatic approach with the previous results based on the renormalization group approach. We show that the results differ by new genuine two-loop contributions present in the Feynman-diagrammatic calculation. The numerical effect of these terms on the result for m_h is briefly discussed.

Implications of Results from Z- and WW-Threshold Running

One year of Z- and WW-Threshold running of TESLA can provide the possibility to measure electroweak precision observables to an extremely high accuracy. At the Z peak O(10^9) Z bosons and about 6 10^8 b quarks can be collected. We employ the expected uncertainties ΔMW = 6 MeV and Δsin(theta_W,eff) = 0.00001 and demonstrate in this way that very stringent consistency tests of the Standard Model and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model will be possible. The indirect determination of the Higgs-boson mass within the Standard Model can reach an accuracy of about 5 %. The 6 10^8 b quarks can be used to investigate various b physics topics.

Precision Analysis of the Masses of the Neutral Higgs Bosons in the MSSM

The masses of the neutral CP-even Higgs bosons in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) are predicted on the basis of explicit Feynman-diagrammatic calculations. The results, containing the complete diagrammatic one-loop corrections, the leading two-loop corrections of O(alpha alpha_s) and further improvements taking into account leading electroweak two-loop and higher-order QCD contributions, are discussed and compared with results obtained by renormalization group calculations. Good agreement is found in the case of vanishing mixing in the scalar top sector, while sizable deviations occur if scalar top mixing is taken into account. By means of a Taylor expansion a compact approximation formula for the mass of the lightest Higgs boson, m_h, is derived. The quality of the approximation in comparison with the full result is analyzed.

The Mass of the Lightest MSSM Higgs Boson: A Compact Analytical Expression at the Two-Loop Level

A compact approximation formula for the mass of the lightest neutral CP-even Higgs boson, m_h, in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is derived from the diagrammatic two-loop result for m_h up to O(alpha alpha_s). By analytically expanding the diagrammatic result the leading logarithmic and non-logarithmic as well as the dominant subleading contributions are obtained. The approximation formula is valid for general mixing in the scalar top sector and arbitrary choices of the parameters in the Higgs sector of the model. Its quality is analyzed by comparing it with the full diagrammatic result. We find agreement with the full result better than 2 GeV for most parts of the MSSM parameter space.

Test of the Heavy Top Expansion in the Evaluation of MW and sin^2theta_eff

In order to test the accuracy of the Heavy Top-mass Expansion (HTE) employed in recent two-loop calculations of MW and sin^2theta_eff, we consider their contributions to subtracted quantities of the form MW_sub=MW(mh)-MW(mh0), where mh0 is a reference point. The results are compared with those obtained by a precise numerical evaluation of all the two-loop contributions involving both the Higgs boson and a fermion loop. For the choice mh0=65 GeV, and over the large range 65 GeV <mh< 1TeV, we find very small differences between the precise and HTE calculations, amounting to |deltaMW|<0.8 MeV and |delta s^2_eff|<1.2 x 10^-5. Although corrections involving light fermions are necessary for the consistency and test of existent calculations, we also discuss the separate contributions from the top-bottom isodoublet. In this case, the differences are larger, although still small, namely |deltaMW|<1.9 MeV and |delta s^2_eff|< 4.5 x 10^-5.

Higher-order Results for Precision Observables in the Standard Model and the MSSM

Recent higher-order results for precision observables in the Standard Model (SM) and the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and for the neutral CP-even Higgs-boson masses of the MSSM are summarized. Furthermore a brief discussion of the technical aspects of evaluating higher-order corrections in the electroweak theory is given. In the SM, results for the Higgs-mass dependence of the precision observables are analyzed. The exact two-loop results for the Higgs-mass dependence of the fermionic contributions are compared with the results of an expansion in the top-quark mass up to next-to-leading order. In the MSSM, results for the leading two-loop contributions to the precision observables and to the masses of the neutral CP-even Higgs bosons are discussed. The latter are compared with results obtained by renormalization group calculations.

The Masses of the Neutral CP-even Higgs Bosons in the MSSM: Accurate Analysis at the Two-Loop Level

We present detailed results of a diagrammatic calculation of the leading two-loop QCD corrections to the masses of the neutral CP-even Higgs bosons in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The two-loop corrections are incorporated into the full diagrammatic one-loop result and supplemented with refinement terms that take into account leading electroweak two-loop and higher-order QCD contributions. The dependence of the results for the Higgs-boson masses on the various MSSM parameters is analyzed in detail, with a particular focus on the part of the parameter space accessible at LEP2 and the upgraded Tevatron. For the mass of the lightest Higgs boson, m_h, a parameter scan has been performed, yielding an upper limit on m_h which depends only on tan(beta). The results for the Higgs-boson masses are compared with results obtained by renormalization group methods. Good agreement is found in the case of vanishing mixing in the scalar quark sector, while sizable deviations occur if squark mixing is taken into account.

FeynHiggs is a Fortran code for the calculation of the masses of the neutral CP-even Higgs bosons in the MSSM up to two-loop order. It is based on the complete diagrammatic on-shell results at the one-loop level, the leading diagrammatic two-loop QCD contributions and further improvements taking into account leading electroweak two-loop and leading higher-order QCD corrections. QCD Corrections to the Masses of the neutral CP-even Higgs Bosons in the MSSM

We perform a diagrammatic calculation of the leading two-loop QCD corrections to the masses of the neutral CP-even Higgs bosons in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The results are valid for arbitrary values of the parameters of the Higgs and scalar top sector of the MSSM. The two-loop corrections are found to reduce the mass of the lightest Higgs boson considerably compared to its one-loop value. The numerical results are analyzed in the GUT favored regions of small and large \tan β. Their impact on a precise prediction for the mass of the lightest Higgs boson is briefly discussed.

Results for Precision Observables in the Electroweak Standard Model at Two-Loop Order and Beyond

Higher-order contributions to the precision observables Δr, \sin^2θ_eff and Γ_l are discussed. The Higgs-mass dependence of the observables is investigated at the two-loop level, and exact results are derived for the Higgs-dependent two-loop corrections associated with fermions. The top-quark corrections are compared with the results obtained by an expansion in the top-quark mass up to next-to-leading order. For the pure fermion-loop contributions to Δr results up to four-loop order are derived. They allow to investigate the validity of the commonly used resummation of the leading fermionic contributions to Δr.

Sensitivity of Two-Loop Corrections to Muon Decay to the Higgs-Boson Mass

The Higgs-mass dependence of the two-loop contributions to muon decay is analyzed at the two-loop level. Exact results are given for the Higgs-dependent two-loop corrections associated with the fermions, i.e. no expansion in the top-quark and the Higgs-boson mass is made. The remaining theoretical uncertainties in the Higgs-mass dependence of $Δr$ are discussed.
