Towards High-Precision Predictions for the MSSM Higgs Sector

The status of the evaluation of the MSSM Higgs sector is reviewed. The phenomenological impact of recently obtained corrections is discussed. In particular it is shown that the upper bound on m_h within the MSSM is shifted upwards. Consequently, lower limits on tan beta obtained by confronting the upper bound as function of tan beta with the lower bound on m_h from Higgs searches are significantly weakened. Furthermore, the region in the M_A-tan beta-plane where the coupling of the lightest Higgs boson to down-type fermions is suppressed is modified. The presently not calculated higher-order corrections to the Higgs-boson mass matrix are estimated to shift the mass of the lightest Higgs boson by up to 3 GeV.

MSSM Higgs-Boson Production at the Linear Collider: Dominant Corrections to the WW-Fusion Channel

In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) we calculate the corrections to neutral CP-even Higgs-boson production in the WW-fusion and Higgs-strahlung channel, e+e- -> \bar nu nu {h,H}, at a future Linear Collider, taking into account all O(alpha) corrections arising from loops of fermions and sfermions. For the production of the lightest MSSM Higgs boson, h, we find genuine loop corrections (beyond the universal Higgs propagator corrections) of up to -5%. For the heavy CP-even neutral Higgs boson, H, which shows decoupling behavior at tree level, we find non-negligible corrections that can enhance the cross section considerably in parts of the MSSM parameter space. At a center-of-mass energy of \sqrt{s} = 1000 GeV, heavy CP-even Higgs-boson masses of up to M_H <= 700 GeV are accessible at the Linear Collider in favorable regions of the MSSM parameter space.

The Higgs Boson Masses of the Complex MSSM: A Complete One-Loop Calculation

In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters (cMSSM) we perform a complete one-loop calculation for the Higgs boson masses (including the momentum dependence) and the mixing angles. These corrections are obtained in the Feynman-diagrammatic approach using the on-shell renormalization scheme. The impact of the newly evaluated corrections is analyzed numerically. The full one-loop result, supplemented by the leading two-loop contributions taken over from the real MSSM are implemented into the public Fortran code FeynHiggs2.0.

Very Heavy MSSM Higgs-Boson Production at the Linear Collider

In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) we present the corrections to the heavy neutral CP-even Higgs-boson production in the WW-fusion and Higgs-strahlung channel, e+e- -> \bar nu nu H, taking into account all O(α) corrections arising from loops of fermions and sfermions. While the H boson shows decoupling behavior at the tree-level, we find non-negligible loop corrections that can enhance the cross section considerably. At a center-of-mass energy of \sqrt{s} = 1000 GeV, masses of up to M_H <= 750 GeV are accessible at the LC in favorable regions of the MSSM parameter space.

Leading Electroweak Two-Loop Corrections to Precision Observables in the MSSM

The leading electroweak MSSM two-loop corrections to the electroweak precision observables are calculated. They are obtained by evaluating the two-loop O(α_t^2), O(α_t α_b), O(α_b^2) contributions to the quantity Δρin the limit of heavy scalar quarks, i.e. we consider the contributions of a Two-Higgs-Doublet model with MSSM restrictions. The full analytic result for arbitrary values of the lightest CP-even Higgs boson mass is presented. The numerical effects of the leading electroweak MSSM two-loop corrections on the precision observables M_W and sin^2(theta_eff) are analyzed. The electroweak two-loop contribution to M_W amounts up to -12 MeV and up to +6 10^-5 for sin^2(theta_eff). The corrections from the bottom quark loops can become important for large values of tan beta. They enter with a different sign than the O(α_t^2) corrections. We furthermore investigate the current sensitivity of the electroweak precision observables to the top Yukawa coupling in the SM and the MSSM. The prospects for indirectly determining this coupling at the next generation of colliders are discussed.

Physics Opportunities at mu+mu- Higgs Factories

We update theoretical studies of the physics opportunities presented by mu+mu- Higgs factories. Interesting measurements of the Standard Model Higgs decays into {\bar b}b, tau+tau- and WW* may be possible if the Higgs mass is less than about 160 GeV, as preferred by the precision electroweak data, the mass range being extended by varying appropriately the beam energy resolution. A suitable value of the beam energy resolution would also enable the uncertainty in the b-quark mass to be minimized, facilitating measurements of parameters in the MSSM at such a first mu+mu- Higgs factory. These measurements would be sensitive to radiative corrections to the Higgs-fermion-antifermion decay vertices, which may violate CP. Radiative corrections in the MSSM may also induce CP violation in Higgs-mass mixing, which can be probed via various asymmetries measurable using polarized mu+mu- beams. In addition, Higgs-chargino couplings may be probed at a second mu+mu- Higgs factory.

FeynHiggs1.2: Hybrid MSbar/on-shell Renormalization for the CP-even Higgs Boson Sector in the MSSM

An updated version is presented of the Fortran code FeynHiggs for the evaluation of the neutral CP-even Higgs sector masses and mixing angles. It differs from the previous version by a modification of the renormalization scheme concerning the treatment of subleading terms at the one-loop level; the two-loop corrections, for which the leading contributions of O(alpha_t alphas) and O(alpha_t^2) are implemented, are not affected by the modified renormalization prescription. Besides stabilizing the Higgs mass calculations and avoiding unphysically large threshold effects, the mass of the lightest MSSM Higgs boson, m_h, is increased by 1-2 GeV for most parts of the MSSM parameter space.

Suggestions for Benchmark Scenarios for MSSM Higgs Boson Searches at Hadron Colliders

The Higgs boson search has shifted from LEP2 to the Tevatron and will subsequently move to the LHC. Due to the different initial states, the Higgs production and decay channels relevant for Higgs boson searches were different at LEP2 to what they are at hadron colliders. We suggest new benchmark scenarios for the MSSM Higgs boson search at hadron colliders that exemplify the phenomenology of different parts of the MSSM parameter space. Besides the m_h^max scenario and the no-mixing scenario used in the LEP2 Higgs boson searches, we propose two new scenarios. In one the main production channel at the LHC, gg -> h, is suppressed. In the other, important Higgs decay channels at the Tevatron and at the LHC, h -> b \bar b and h -> tau^+ tau^-, are suppressed. All scenarios evade the LEP2 constraints for nearly the whole M_A-tan beta-plane.

Present and Future Electroweak Precision Measurements and the Indirect Determination of the Mass of the Higgs Boson

We discuss the experimental and theoretical uncertainties on precision electroweak observables and their relationship to the indirect constraints on the Higgs-boson mass, $\MH$, in the Standard Model (SM). The critical experimental measurements ($\MW$, $\sweff$, $\mt$, ...) are evaluated in terms of their present uncertainties and their prospects for improved precision at future colliders, and their contribution to the constraints on $\MH$. In addition, the current uncertainties of the theoretical predictions for $\MW$ and $\sweff$ due to missing higher order corrections are estimated and expectations and necessary theoretical improvements for future colliders are explored. The constraints from rare B decays are also discussed. Analysis of the present experimental and theoretical precisions yield a current upper bound on $\MH$ of $\sim 200$ GeV. Including anticipated improvements corresponding to the prospective situation at future colliders (Tevatron Run II, LHC, LC/GigaZ), we find a relative precision of about 25% to 8% (or better) is achievable in the indirect determination of $\MH$.

Implications of the Higgs Boson Searches on Different Soft SUSY-breaking Scenarios

We investigate the Higgs boson sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) in the framework of the three most prominent soft SUSY-breaking scenarios, mSUGRA, MGMSB and mAMSB. For each scenario, we determine the parameters at the electroweak scale from the set of input variables at higher energy scales (depending on the specific scenario) and evaluate the Higgs boson properties. The latter are based on results obtained within the Feynman-diagrammatic approach by taking into account the complete one-loop and the dominant two-loop contributions. The maximum value of the mass of the lightest neutral CP-even MSSM Higgs boson, m_h, is determined in the three scenarios, and the behavior of the Higgs couplings to fermions and gauge bosons is investigated. Restrictions on tan beta and on the set of higher-energy scale parameters are derived from the lower limits arising from the Higgs search at LEP2. We furthermore discuss the regions of parameter space in the three scenarios compatible with interpreting the excess observed at LEP2 as a Higgs signal, with m_h = (115.0 + 1.3 - 0.9) GeV. The case where the events observed at LEP2 could originate from the production of the heavier neutral CP-even Higgs boson is also considered. The implications of a possible Higgs signal at 115 GeV for SUSY searches at future colliders are briefly discussed for each of the three scenarios.

Positron polarisation and low energy running at a Linear Collider

The physics potential of an e+e- linear collider can be significantly enhanced if both the electron and positron beams are polarised. Low energy running at the Z-resonance or close to the W-pair threshold is particularly attractive with polarised positrons. This note discusses the experimental aspects and physics opportunities of both low energy running and positron polarisation.

Theoretical and Experimental Status of the Indirect Higgs Boson Mass Determination in the Standard Model

The impact of theoretical and experimental uncertainties on the indirect determination of the Higgs boson mass, MH, in the Standard Model (SM) is discussed. Special emphasis is put on the electroweak precision observables MW (the W boson mass) and sin^2(theta_eff) (the effective leptonic mixing angle). The current uncertainties of the theoretical predictions for MW and sin^2(theta_eff) due to missing higher order corrections are conservatively estimated to delta MW \approx 7 MeV and delta sin^2(theta_eff) \approx 7 x 10^-5 . Expectations and necessary theoretical improvements for future colliders are explored. Results for the indirect MH determination are presented based on the present experimental and theoretical precisions as well as on improvements corresponding to the prospective situation at future colliders. The treatment of the different future colliders is done in a uniform way in order to allow for a direct comparison of the accuracies that can be reached. Taking all experimental, theoretical, and parametric uncertainties into account, a current upper bound on MH of \sim 200 GeV is obtained. Furthermore we find in a conservative approach that a Linear Collider with GigaZ capabilities can achieve a relative precision of about 8% (or better) in the indirect determination of MH.

Feynman-diagram evaluation in the electroweak theory with computer algebra

The evaluation of quantum corrections in the theory of the electroweak and strong interactions via higher-order Feynman diagrams requires complicated and laborious calculations, which however can be structured in a strictly algorithmic way. These calculations are ideally suited for the application of computer algebra systems, and computer algebra has proven to be a very valuable tool in this field already over several decades. It is sketched how computer algebra is presently applied in evaluating the predictions of the electroweak theory with high precision, and some recent results obtained in this way are summarized.

Theoretical implications of the possible observation of Higgs bosons at LEP

Theoretical implications of the possible observation of a Higgs boson with a mass of about 115 GeV at LEP are discussed. Within the Standard Model a Higgs boson in this mass range agrees well with the indirect constraints from electroweak precision data. However, it would nevertheless point towards physics beyond the Standard Model, in particular to Supersymmetric extensions. The interpretation of the LEP excess as production of the light or the heavy CP-even Higgs boson is discussed within the unconstrained MSSM and the mSUGRA, GMSB and AMSB scenarios. Prospects for Higgs physics at future colliders are briefly summarized.
