Inverse design of nano-photonic wavelength demultiplexer with a deep neural network approach

In this paper, we propose a pre-trained-combined neural network (PTCN) as a comprehensive solution to the inverse design of an integrated photonic circuit. By utilizing both the initially pre-trained inverse and forward model with a joint training process, our PTCN model shows remarkable tolerance to the quantity and quality of the training data. As a proof of concept demonstration, the inverse design of a wavelength demultiplexer is used to verify the effectiveness of the PTCN model. The correlation coefficient of the prediction by the presented PTCN model remains greater than 0.974 even when the size of training data is decreased to 17%. The experimental results show a good agreement with predictions, and demonstrate a wavelength demultiplexer with an ultra-compact footprint, a high transmission efficiency with a transmission loss of -2dB, a low reflection of -10dB, and low crosstalk around -7dB simultaneously.

Color-Kinematics Duality for Sudakov Form Factor in Non-Supersymmetric Pure Yang-Mills Theory

We study the duality between color and kinematics for the Sudakov form factors of ${\rm tr}(F^2)$ in non-supersymmetric pure Yang-Mills theory. We construct the integrands that manifest the color-kinematics duality up to two loops. The resulting numerators are given in terms of Lorentz products of momenta and polarization vectors, which have the same powers of loop momenta as that from the Feynman rules. The integrands are checked by $d$-dimensional unitarity cuts and are valid in any dimension. We find that massless-bubble and tadpole topologies are needed at two loops to realize the color-kinematics duality. Interestingly, the two-loop solution contains a large number of free parameters suggesting the duality may hold at higher loop orders.

Bottomonium-like tetraquarks in a chiral quark model

The low-lying bottomonium-like tetraquarks $b\bar{b}q\bar{q}$ $(q=u,\,d,\,s)$ with spin-parity $J^P=0^+$, $1^+$ and $2^+$, and isospin $I=0,\,1$ or $\frac{1}{2}$, are systematically investigated within the theoretical framework of real- and complex-scaling range of a chiral quark model, which has already been successfully applied in analysis of several multiquark systems. A complete four-body $S$-wave function, which includes meson-meson, diquark-antidiquark and K-type arrangements of quarks, along with all possible color configurations are considered. In the $b\bar{b}q\bar{q}$ $(q=u,\,d)$ tetraquark system, we found resonance states of $B^{(*)} \bar{B}^{(*)}$, $Υω$, $Υρ$ and $η_b ρ$ nature with all possible $I(J^P)$ quantum numbers. Their masses are generally located in the energy range $11.0-11.3$ GeV and their widths are less than $10$ MeV. In addition, extremely narrow resonances, with two-meson strong decay widths less than $1.5$ MeV, are obtained in both $b\bar{b}u\bar{s}$ and $b\bar{b}s\bar{s}$ tetraquark systems. Particularly, four radial excitations of $ΥK^*$ and $η_b K^*$ are found at $\sim11.1$ GeV in $J^P=0^+$, $1^+$ and $2^+$ channels of $b\bar{b}u\bar{s}$ system. One $Υ(1S)ϕ(2S)$ resonance state is obtained at $11.28$ GeV in the $J^P=1^+$ sector.

Some multivariable Rado numbers

The Rado number of an equation is a Ramsey-theoretic quantity associated to the equation. Let $\mathcal{E}$ be a linear equation. Denote by $\operatorname{R}_r(\mathcal{E})$ the minimal integer, if it exists, such that any $r$-coloring of $[1,\operatorname{R}_r(\mathcal{E})]$ must admit a monochromatic solution to $\mathcal{E}$. In this paper, we give upper and lower bounds for the Rado number of $\sum_{i=1}^{m-2}x_i+kx_{m-1}=\ell x_{m}$, and some exact values are also given. Furthermore, we derive some results for the cases that $\ell=m=4$ and $m=5, \ell=k+i \ (1\leq i\leq 5)$. As a generalization, the \emph{$r$-color Rado numbers} for linear equations $\mathcal{E}_1,\mathcal{E}_2,...,\mathcal{E}_r$ is defined as the minimal integer, if it exists, such that any $r$-coloring of $[1,\operatorname{R}_r(\mathcal{E}_1,\mathcal{E}_2,...,\mathcal{E}_r)]$ must admit a monochromatic solution to some $\mathcal{E}_i$, where $1\leq i\leq r$. A lower bound for $\operatorname{R}_r(\mathcal{E}_1,\mathcal{E}_2,...,\mathcal{E}_r)$ and the exact values of $\operatorname{R}_2(x+y=z,\ell x=y)=5k$ and $\operatorname{R}_2(x+y=z, x+a=y)$ was given by Lovász Local Lemma.

Full-color three-loop three-point form factors in N=4 SYM

We present the detailed computation of full-color three-loop three-point form factors of both the stress-tensor supermultiplet and a length-three BPS operator in N=4 SYM. The integrands are constructed based on the color-kinematics (CK) duality and generalized unitarity method. An interesting observation is that the CK-dual integrands contain a large number of free parameters. We discuss the origin of these free parameters in detail and check that they cancel in the simplified integrands. We further perform the numerical evaluation of the integrals at a special kinematics point using public packages FIESTA and pySecDec based on the sector-decomposition approach. We find that the numerical computation can be significantly simplified by expressing the integrals in terms of uniformly transcendental basis, although the final three-loop computations still require large computational resources. Having the full-color numerical results, we verify that the non-planar infrared divergences reproduce the non-dipole structures, which firstly appear at three loops. As for the finite remainder functions, we check that the numerical planar remainder for the stress-tensor supermultiplet is consistent with the known result of the bootstrap computation. We also obtain for the first time the numerical results of the three-loop non-planar remainder for the stress-tensor supermultiplet as well as the three-loop remainder for the length-three operator.

Highly accelerated MR parametric mapping by undersampling the k-space and reducing the contrast number simultaneously with deep learning

Purpose: To propose a novel deep learning-based method called RG-Net (reconstruction and generation network) for highly accelerated MR parametric mapping by undersampling k-space and reducing the acquired contrast number simultaneously. Methods: The proposed framework consists of a reconstruction module and a generative module. The reconstruction module reconstructs MR images from the acquired few undersampled k-space data with the help of a data prior. The generative module then synthesizes the remaining multi-contrast images from the reconstructed images, where the exponential model is implicitly incorporated into the image generation through the supervision of fully sampled labels. The RG-Net was evaluated on the T1\r{ho} mapping data of knee and brain at different acceleration rates. Regional T1\r{ho} analysis for cartilage and the brain was performed to access the performance of RG-Net. Results: RG-Net yields a high-quality T1\r{ho} map at a high acceleration rate of 17. Compared with the competing methods that only undersample k-space, our framework achieves better performance in T1\r{ho} value analysis. Our method also improves quality of T1\r{ho} maps on patient with glioma. Conclusion: The proposed RG-Net that adopted a new strategy by undersampling k-space and reducing the contrast number simultaneously for fast MR parametric mapping, can achieve a high acceleration rate while maintaining good reconstruction quality. The generative module of our framework can also be used as an insert module in other fast MR parametric mapping methods. Keywords: Deep learning, convolutional neural network, fast MR parametric mapping

Three-loop color-kinematics duality: A 24-dimensional solution space induced by new generalized gauge transformations

We obtain full-color three-loop three-point form factors of the stress-tensor supermultiplet and also of a length-3 half-BPS operator in N=4 SYM based on the color-kinematics duality and on-shell unitarity. The integrand results are verified by all planar and non-planar unitarity cuts, and they satisfy the minimal power-counting of loop momenta and diagrammatic symmetries. Interestingly, these three-loop solutions, while manifesting all dual Jacobi relations, contain a large number of free parameters; in particular, there are 24 free parameters for the form factor of stress-tensor supermultiplet. Such degrees of freedom are due to a new type of generalized gauge transformation associated with the operator insertion for form factors. We also perform numerical integration and obtain consistent full-color infrared divergences and the known planar remainder. The form factors we obtain can be understood as the N=4 SYM counterparts of three-loop Higgs plus three-gluon amplitudes in QCD and are expected to provide the maximally transcendental parts of the latter.

Bootstrapping a Two-Loop Four-Point Form Factor

We compute the two-loop four-point form factor of a length-3 half-BPS operator in planar N=4 SYM, which belongs to the class of two-loop five-point scattering observables with one off-shell color-singlet leg. A new bootstrapping strategy is developed to obtain this result by starting with an ansatz expanded in terms of master integrals and then solving the master coefficients via various physical constraints. We find that consistency conditions of infrared divergences and collinear limits, together with the cancellation of spurious poles, can fix a significant part of the ansatz. The remaining degrees of freedom can be fixed by one simple type of two-double unitarity cut. Full analytic results in terms of both symbol and Goncharov polylogarithms are provided.

Hidden-charm tetraquarks with strangeness in the chiral quark model

The hidden-charm tetraquarks with strangeness, $c\bar{c}s\bar{q}$ $(q=u,\,d)$, in $J^P=0^+$, $1^+$ and $2^+$ are systematically investigated in the framework of real- and complex-scaling range of a chiral quark model, whose parameters have been fixed in advance describing hadron, hadron-hadron and multiquark phenomenology. Each tetraquark configuration, compatible with the quantum numbers studied, is taken into account; this includes meson-meson, diquark-antidiquark and K-type arrangements of quarks with all possible color wave functions in four-body sector. Among the different numerical techniques to solve the Schrödinger-like 4-body bound state equation, we use a variational method in which the trial wave function is expanded in complex-range Gaussian basis functions, which is characterized by its simplicity and flexibility. This theoretical framework has already been used to study different kinds of multiquark systems, such as the hidden-charm pentaquarks, $P^+_c$, and doubly-charmed tetraquarks, $T^+_{cc}$. The recently reported $Z_{cs}$ states by the BESIII and LHCb collaborations are generally compatible with either compact tetraquark or hadronic molecular resonance configurations in our investigation. Moreover, several additional exotic resonances are found in the mass range between 3.8 GeV and 4.6 GeV.

Unfolding Taylor's Approximations for Image Restoration

Deep learning provides a new avenue for image restoration, which demands a delicate balance between fine-grained details and high-level contextualized information during recovering the latent clear image. In practice, however, existing methods empirically construct encapsulated end-to-end mapping networks without deepening into the rationality, and neglect the intrinsic prior knowledge of restoration task. To solve the above problems, inspired by Taylor's Approximations, we unfold Taylor's Formula to construct a novel framework for image restoration. We find the main part and the derivative part of Taylor's Approximations take the same effect as the two competing goals of high-level contextualized information and spatial details of image restoration respectively. Specifically, our framework consists of two steps, correspondingly responsible for the mapping and derivative functions. The former first learns the high-level contextualized information and the later combines it with the degraded input to progressively recover local high-order spatial details. Our proposed framework is orthogonal to existing methods and thus can be easily integrated with them for further improvement, and extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness and scalability of our proposed framework.

Potential model prediction of fully-heavy tetraquarks $QQ\bar{Q}\bar{Q}$ ($Q=c, b$)

The fully-heavy tetraquark states $QQ\bar{Q}\bar{Q}$ ($Q=c, b$) are systematically investigated by means of a nonrelativistic potential model. The model is based on the lattice QCD study of the two-body $Q\bar{Q}$ interaction, which exhibits a spin-independent Cornell potential along with a spin-spin interaction. The four-body problem is implemented with a highly accurate computational approach, the Gaussian expansion method. The complex scaling method is also employed so that the bound, resonance, and scattering states can be treated on the same footing. Complete set of the four-body configurations, including meson-meson, diquark-antidiquark, and K-type configurations, as well as their couplings, are considered for spin-parity quantum numbers $J^{PC}=0^{++}$, $1^{+-}$, and $2^{++}$ in the $S$-wave channel. No $S$-wave bound state is found either in the fully-charm tetraquark system or in the fully-bottom one. However, several narrow resonances, with widths less than 10 MeV in two-meson strong decay, are found in both of these two systems. For the fully-charm case, the recently reported resonance structures between 6.2 and 7.2 GeV in the di-$J/ψ$ invariant spectrum by the LHCb collaboration, can be well identified in our calculation. For the fully-bottom case, resonances with masses between 18.9 and 19.6 GeV are found. The predicted resonances can be further examined in future experiments.

Exotic resonances of fully-heavy tetraquarks in a lattice-QCD insipired quark model

Fully-heavy tetraquark states, i.e. $cc\bar{c}\bar{c}$, $bb\bar{b}\bar{b}$, $bb\bar{c}\bar{c}$ ($cc\bar{b}\bar{b}$), $cb\bar{c}\bar{c}$, $cb\bar{b}\bar{b}$, and $cb\bar{c}\bar{b}$, are systematically investigated by means of a non-relativistic quark model based on lattice-QCD studies of the two-body $Q\bar{Q}$ interaction, which exhibits a spin-independent Cornell potential along with a spin-spin term. The four-body problem is solved using the Gaussian expansion method; additionally, the so-called complex scaling technique is employed so that bound, resonance, and scattering states can be treated on the same footing. Moreover, a complete set of four-body configurations, including meson-meson, diquark-antidiquark, and K-type configurations, as well as their couplings, are considered for spin-parity quantum numbers $J^{P(C)}=0^{+(+)}$, $1^{+(\pm)}$, and $2^{+(+)}$ in the $S$-wave channel. Several narrow resonances, with two-meson strong decay widths less than 30 MeV, are found in all of the tetraquark systems studied. Particularly, the fully-charm resonances recently reported by the LHCb Collaboration, at the energy range between 6.2 and 7.2 GeV in the di-$J/ψ$ invariant spectrum, can be well identified in our calculation. Focusing on the fully-bottom tetraquark spectrum, resonances with masses between 18.9 and 19.6 GeV are found. For the remaining charm-bottom cases, the masses are obtained within a energy region from 9.8 GeV to 16.4 GeV. All these predicted resonances can be further examined in future experiments.

Unsupervised Domain Expansion for Visual Categorization

Expanding visual categorization into a novel domain without the need of extra annotation has been a long-term interest for multimedia intelligence. Previously, this challenge has been approached by unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA). Given labeled data from a source domain and unlabeled data from a target domain, UDA seeks for a deep representation that is both discriminative and domain-invariant. While UDA focuses on the target domain, we argue that the performance on both source and target domains matters, as in practice which domain a test example comes from is unknown. In this paper we extend UDA by proposing a new task called unsupervised domain expansion (UDE), which aims to adapt a deep model for the target domain with its unlabeled data, meanwhile maintaining the model's performance on the source domain. We propose Knowledge Distillation Domain Expansion (KDDE) as a general method for the UDE task. Its domain-adaptation module can be instantiated with any existing model. We develop a knowledge distillation based learning mechanism, enabling KDDE to optimize a single objective wherein the source and target domains are equally treated. Extensive experiments on two major benchmarks, i.e., Office-Home and DomainNet, show that KDDE compares favorably against four competitive baselines, i.e., DDC, DANN, DAAN, and CDAN, for both UDA and UDE tasks. Our study also reveals that the current UDA models improve their performance on the target domain at the cost of noticeable performance loss on the source domain.

Dual Encoding for Video Retrieval by Text

This paper attacks the challenging problem of video retrieval by text. In such a retrieval paradigm, an end user searches for unlabeled videos by ad-hoc queries described exclusively in the form of a natural-language sentence, with no visual example provided. Given videos as sequences of frames and queries as sequences of words, an effective sequence-to-sequence cross-modal matching is crucial. To that end, the two modalities need to be first encoded into real-valued vectors and then projected into a common space. In this paper we achieve this by proposing a dual deep encoding network that encodes videos and queries into powerful dense representations of their own. Our novelty is two-fold. First, different from prior art that resorts to a specific single-level encoder, the proposed network performs multi-level encoding that represents the rich content of both modalities in a coarse-to-fine fashion. Second, different from a conventional common space learning algorithm which is either concept based or latent space based, we introduce hybrid space learning which combines the high performance of the latent space and the good interpretability of the concept space. Dual encoding is conceptually simple, practically effective and end-to-end trained with hybrid space learning. Extensive experiments on four challenging video datasets show the viability of the new method.

The $\mathbf{sQ\bar{q}\bar{q}}$ $\mathbf{(q=u,\,d;\, Q=c,\,b)}$ tetraquarks in the chiral quark model

The low-lying $sQ\bar{q}\bar{q}$ $(q=u,\,d,\, Q=c,\,b)$ tetraquark states with $J^P=0^+$, $1^+$ and $2^+$, and in the isoscalar and isovector sectors, are systematically investigated in the framework of real- and complex-scaling range of a chiral quark model, whose parameters have been fixed in advance describing hadron, hadron-hadron and multiquark phenomenology, and thus all results presented here are pure predictions. Each tetraquark configuration, compatible with the quantum numbers studied, is taken into account; this includes meson-meson, diquark-antidiquark and K-type arrangements of quarks with all possible color wave functions in four-body sector. Among the different numerical techniques to solve the Schrödinger-like 4-body bound state equation, we use a variational method in which the trial wave function is expanded in complex-range Gaussian basis functions, because its simplicity and flexibility. Several compact bound states and narrow resonances are found in both charm-strange $cs\bar{q}\bar{q}$ and bottom-strange $bs\bar{q}\bar{q}$ tetraquark sectors, most of them as a product of the strong coupling between the different channels. The so-called $X_{0,1}(2900)$ signals, recently found by the LHCb collaboration, are unstable in our formalism with several candidates in the single-channel computations.

Two-Loop anomalous dimensions of QCD operators up to dimension-sixteen and Higgs EFT amplitudes

We consider two-loop renormalization of high-dimensional Lorentz scalar operators in the gluonic sector of QCD. These operators appear also in the Higgs effective theory obtained by integrating out the top quark loop in the gluon fusion process. We first discuss the classification of operators and how to construct a good set of basis using both off-shell field theory method and on-shell form factor formalism. To study loop corrections, we apply efficient unitarity-IBP strategy and compute the two-loop minimal form factors of length-3 operators up to dimension sixteen. From the UV divergences of form factor results, we extract the renormalization matrices and analyze the operator mixing behavior in detail. The form factors we compute are also equivalent to Higgs plus three-gluon amplitudes that capture high-order top mass corrections in Higgs EFT. We obtain the analytic finite remainder functions which exhibit several universal transcendentality structures.

Non-planar form factors of generic local operators via on-shell unitarity and color-kinematics duality

Form factors, as quantities involving both local operators and asymptotic particle states, contain information of both the spectrum of operators and the on-shell amplitudes. So far the studies of form factors have been mostly focused on the large Nc planar limit, with a few exceptions of Sudakov form factors. In this paper, we discuss the systematical construction of full color dependent form factors with generic local operators. We study the color decomposition for form factors and discuss the general strategy of using on-shell unitarity cut method. As concrete applications, we compute the full two-loop non-planar minimal form factors for both half-BPS operators and non-BPS operators in SU(2) sector in N=4 SYM. Another important aspect is to investigate the color-kinematics (CK) duality for form factors with high-length operators. Explicit CK dual representation is found for the two-loop half-BPS minimal form factors with arbitrary number of external legs. The full-color two-loop form factor results provide an independent check of the infrared dipole formula for two-loop n-point amplitudes. By extracting the UV divergence, we also reproduce the known two-loop non-planar SU(2) dilatation operator. As for the finite remainder function, interestingly, the non-planar part is found to contain a new maximally transcendental part beyond the known planar result.

SEA: Sentence Encoder Assembly for Video Retrieval by Textual Queries

Retrieving unlabeled videos by textual queries, known as Ad-hoc Video Search (AVS), is a core theme in multimedia data management and retrieval. The success of AVS counts on cross-modal representation learning that encodes both query sentences and videos into common spaces for semantic similarity computation. Inspired by the initial success of previously few works in combining multiple sentence encoders, this paper takes a step forward by developing a new and general method for effectively exploiting diverse sentence encoders. The novelty of the proposed method, which we term Sentence Encoder Assembly (SEA), is two-fold. First, different from prior art that use only a single common space, SEA supports text-video matching in multiple encoder-specific common spaces. Such a property prevents the matching from being dominated by a specific encoder that produces an encoding vector much longer than other encoders. Second, in order to explore complementarities among the individual common spaces, we propose multi-space multi-loss learning. As extensive experiments on four benchmarks (MSR-VTT, TRECVID AVS 2016-2019, TGIF and MSVD) show, SEA surpasses the state-of-the-art. In addition, SEA is extremely ease to implement. All this makes SEA an appealing solution for AVS and promising for continuously advancing the task by harvesting new sentence encoders.
