Emergence of Time from a Twisted Spectral Triple in Almost-Commutative Geometry

This proceeding presents a synthesis of recent results on the emergence of pseudo-Riemannian structures from twisted spectral triples within the almostcommutative framework. It provides a unified algebraic mechanism for addressing the Lorentzian signature problem, demonstrating how the almost-commutative structure underlying the noncommutative Standard Model of particle physics may give rise to Lorentzian spectral triple from a purely Riemannian setting. This notably offers an alternative to Wick rotation, provided by a notion of morphism connecting twisted and pseudo-Riemannian spectral triples.

Signature change by a morphism of spectral triples

We present a connection between twisted spectral triples and pseudo-Riemannian spectral triples, rooted in the fundamental interplay between twists and Krein products. A concept of morphism of spectral triples is introduced, transforming one spectral triple into its dual. In the case of even-dimensional manifolds, we demonstrate how this construction implements a local signature change via the parity operator induced by the twist. Consequently, the signature change transformation is governed solely by the unitary operator that implements the twist. This unitary is a central element of our approach, as it is directly linked to the Krein product, the twist, and the parity operator that implements the signature change.

Emergence of Lorentz symmetry from an almost-commutative twisted spectral triple

This article demonstrates how the transition from a (Riemannian) twisted spectral triple to a pseudo-Riemannian spectral triple arises within an almost-commutative spectral triple. This opens a new perspective on the Lorentzian signature problem, showing that the almost-commutative structure at the heart of the noncommutative standard model of particle physics could be the origin of the emergence of a Lorentzian spectral triple, starting from self-adjoint Dirac operators and conventional inner product structures, in the framework of twisted spectral triples. We present an alternative to Wick rotation, acting on the metric and the Christoffel symbols in a way that does not introduce any complex numbers.

Torsion and Lorentz symmetry from Twisted Spectral Triples

By twisting the spectral triple of a riemannian spin manifold, we show how to generate an orthogonal and geodesic preserving torsion from a torsionless Dirac operator. We identify the group of twisted unitaries as the generator of torsion with co-exact three form. Through the fermionic action, the torsion term identifies with a Lorentzian energy-momentum 4-vector. The Lorentz group turns out to be a normal subgroup of the twisted unitaries. We also investigate the spectral action related to this model.

Noncommutative Geometry and Gauge theories on AF algebras

Non-commutative geometry (NCG) is a mathematical discipline developed in the 1990s by Alain Connes. It is presented as a new generalization of usual geometry, both encompassing and going beyond the Riemannian framework, within a purely algebraic formalism. Like Riemannian geometry, NCG also has links with physics. Indeed, NCG provided a powerful framework for the reformulation of the Standard Model of Particle Physics (SMPP), taking into account General Relativity, in a single "geometric" representation, based on Non-Commutative Gauge Theories (NCGFT). Moreover, this accomplishment provides a convenient framework to study various possibilities to go beyond the SMPP, such as Grand Unified Theories (GUTs). This thesis intends to show an elegant method recently developed by Thierry Masson and myself, which proposes a general scheme to elaborate GUTs in the framework of NCGFTs. This concerns the study of NCGFTs based on approximately finite $C^*$-algebras (AF-algebras), using either derivations of the algebra or spectral triples to build up the underlying differential structure of the Gauge Theory. The inductive sequence defining the AF-algebra is used to allow the construction of a sequence of NCGFTs of Yang-Mills Higgs types, so that the rank $n+1$ can represent a grand unified theory of the rank $n$. The main advantage of this framework is that it controls, using appropriate conditions, the interaction of the degrees of freedom along the inductive sequence on the AF algebra. This suggests a way to obtain GUT-like models while offering many directions of theoretical investigation to go beyond the SMPP.

Lifting Bratteli Diagrams between Krajewski Diagrams: Spectral Triples, Spectral Actions, and $AF$ algebras

In this paper, we present a framework to construct sequences of spectral triples on top of an inductive sequence defining an $AF$-algebra. One aim of this paper is to lift arrows of a Bratteli diagram to arrows between Krajewski diagrams. The spectral actions defining Non-commutative Gauge Field Theories associated to two spectral triples related by these arrows are compared (tensored by a commutative spectral triple to put us in the context of Almost Commutative manifolds). This paper is a follow up of a previous one in which this program was defined and physically illustrated in the framework of the derivation-based differential calculus, but the present paper focuses more on the mathematical structure without trying to study the physical implications.

Derivation-based Noncommutative Field Theories on $AF$ algebras

In this paper, we start the investigation of a new natural approach to "unifying" noncommutative gauge field theories (NCGFT) based on approximately finite-dimensional ($AF$) $C^*$-algebras. The defining inductive sequence of an $AF$ $C^*$-algebra is lifted to enable the construction of a sequence of NCGFT of Yang-Mills-Higgs types. The present paper focus on derivation-based noncommutative field theories. A mathematical study of the ingredients involved in the construction of a NCGFT is given in the framework of $AF$ $C^*$-algebras: derivation-based differential calculus, modules, connections, metrics and Hodge $\star$-operators, Lagrangians... Some physical applications concerning mass spectra generated by Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking Mechanisms (SSBM) are proposed using numerical computations for specific situations.
