Pairwise wave interactions in ideal polytropic gases

We consider the problem of resolving all pairwise interactions of shock waves, contact waves, and rarefaction waves in 1-dimensional flow of an ideal polytropic gas. Resolving an interaction means here to determine the types of the three outgoing (backward, contact, and forward) waves in the Riemann problem defined by the extreme left and right states of the two incoming waves, together with possible vacuum formation. This problem has been considered by several authors and turns out to be surprisingly involved. For each type of interaction (head-on, involving a contact, or overtaking) the outcome depends on the strengths of the incoming waves. In the case of overtaking waves the type of the reflected wave also depends on the value of the adiabatic constant. Our analysis provides a complete breakdown and gives the exact outcome of each interaction.

Entanglement dynamics of photon pairs emitted from quantum dot

We present a model to derive the state of the photon pairs generated by the biexciton cascade decay of a self-assembled quantum dot, which agrees well with the experimental result. Furthermore we calculate the concurrence and entanglement sudden death is found in this system with temperature increasing, which prevents quantum dot emits entangled photon pairs at a high temperature. The relationship between the fine structure splitting and the sudden death temperature is provided too.

Phase Compensation Enhancement of Photon Pair Entanglement Generated from Biexciton Decays in Quantum Dots

Exciton fine-structure splittings within quantum dots introduce phase differences between the two biexciton decay paths that greatly reduce the entanglement of photon pairs generated via biexciton recombination. We analyze this problem in the frequency domain and propose a practicable method to compensate the phase difference by inserting a spatial light modulator, which substantially improves the entanglement of the photon pairs without any loss.

Experimental demonstration of photonic entanglement collapse and revival

We demonstrate the collapse and revival features of the entanglement dynamics of different polarization-entangled photon states in a non-Markovian environment. Using an all-optical experimental setup, we show that entanglement can be revived even after it suffers from sudden death. A maximally revived state is shown to violate a Bell's inequality with 4.1 standard deviations which verifies its quantum nature. The revival phenomenon observed in this experiment provides an intriguing perspective on entanglement dynamics.

Measurement Induced Quantum Coherence Recovery

We show that measurement can recover the quantum coherence of a qubit in a non-Markovian environment. The experimental demonstration in an optical system is provided by comparing the visibilities (and fidelities) of the final states with and without measurement. This method can be extended to other two-level quantum systems and entangled states in a non-Markovian evolution environment. It may also be used to implement other quantum information processing.

Direct observation of excitonic polaron in InAs/GaAs quantum dots

Excitonic polaron is directly demonstrated for the first time in InAs/GaAs quantum dots with photoluminescence method. A new peak ($s'$) below the ground state of exciton ($s$) comes out as the temperature varies from 4.2 K to 285 K, and a huge anticrossing energy of 31 meV between $s'$ and $s$ is observed at 225 K, which can only be explained by the formation of excitonic polaron. The results also provide a strong evidence for the invalidity of Huang-Rhys formulism in dealing with carrier-longitudinal optical phonon interaction in quantum dot. Instead, we propose a simple two-band model, and it fits the experimental data quite well. The reason for the finding of the anticrossing is also discussed.
