Global Embedding of Fibre Inflation in Perturbative LVS

We present a global embedding of the Fibre inflation model in perturbative large volume scenario (LVS) in which the inflationary potential is induced via a combination of string-loop corrections and higher derivative F$^4$-effects. The minimal Fibre inflation model developed in the standard LVS generically faces some strong bounds on the inflaton field range arising from the Kähler cone constraints, which subsequently creates a challenge for realising the cosmological observables while consistently respecting the underlying supergravity approximations. The main attractive feature of this proposal is to naturally alleviate this issue by embedding Fibre inflation in perturbative LVS.

Hybrid Inflation, Reheating and Dark Radiation in a IIB perturbative moduli stabilization scenario

We study the cosmological implications of an effective field theory model derived within a configuration of D7 brane stacks in the framework of type-IIB string theory. We consider a suitable geometric setup where the Kähler moduli fields are stabilized and the parametric space is constrained so that a de Sitter vacuum is ensured. In addition to the moduli fields we also take into account the usual Higgs and matter fields included in the effective field theory. In this background, we implement the standard hybrid inflation scenario with a singlet scalar field acting as the inflaton and the Higgs states serving as waterfall fields. Radiative corrections and soft supersymmetry breaking terms play an essential role in the realization of a successful inflationary scenario consistent with the present cosmological data. Small tensor-to-scalar ratio values are predicted, which can be probed in future planned experiments. Further constraints on the model's parameters are derived from bounds on dark radiation which is measured as a contribution to the effective number of neutrino species $N_{\rm eff}$. In particular, we find an excess of $ΔN_{\rm eff}\leq{0.95}$ at $2σ$ confidence level with natural values of the involved couplings.

Symplectic formulation of the type IIB scalar potential with U-dual fluxes

We present a symplectic formulation of the $N =1$ four-dimensional type IIB scalar potential arising from a flux superpotential which has four S-dual pairs of fluxes demanded by the U-dual completion arguments. Our symplectic formulation presents a very compact and concise way of expressing the generic scalar potential in just a few terms via using a set of symplectic identities along with the so-called "axionic-flux" combinations. We demonstrate the utility of our symplectic master-formula by considering an underlying four-dimensional type IIB supergravity model based on a ${\mathbb T}^6/({\mathbb Z}_2 \times {\mathbb Z}_2)$ orientifold, in which the scalar potential induced by the U-dual flux superpotential results in a total of 76276 terms involving 128 flux parameters. Given that our symplectic formulation does not need the information about the metric of the internal background, it is applicable to the models beyond the toroidal compactifications such as to those which use orientifolds of the Calabi-Yau threefolds.

On Formulating the Non-Geometric Scalar Potentials

In the context of four-dimensional type II supergravities, the successive application of various S/T-dualities leads to a generalized notion of fluxes, which includes certain (non-)geometric fluxes along with the standard RR and NS-NS p-form fluxes. These fluxes induce a diverse set of superpotential couplings leading to scalar potentials with a very rich structure, which may possibly result in a vast landscape of physical vacua. However such scalar potentials typically consist of a huge number of terms and in order to make any attempt for phenomenological model building with some analytic understanding/control it is necessary to formulate them in some compact and concise form. Along these lines we review various equivalent methods of deriving the same scalar potential through a set of master formulae, which may open up a new avenue for model building using non-geometric fluxes.

Flipped SU(5): unification, proton decay, fermion masses and gravitational waves

We study supersymmetric (SUSY) flipped $SU(5)\times U(1)$ unification, focussing on its predictions for proton decay, fermion masses and gravitational waves. We performed a two-loop renormalisation group analysis and showed that the SUSY flipped $SU(5)$ model predicts a high GUT scale $M_{\rm GUT} > 10^{16}$ GeV. We also investigated the restrictions on the $M_{B-L}$ scale which is associated with the $U(1)_χ$ breaking scale. We found that the $M_{B-L}$ scale can vary in a broad region with negligible or little effect on the value of $M_{\rm GUT}$. Proton decay in this model is induced by dimension-6 operators only. The dimension-5 operator induced by SUSY contribution is suppressed due to the missing partner mechanism. We found that the partial decay width $p \to π^0 e^+$ is high suppressed, being at least one order of magnitude lower than the future Hyper-K sensitivity. We also studied fermion (including neutrino) masses and mixings which can also influence proton decay. We presented two scenarios of flavour textures to check the consistency of the results with fermion masses and mixing. The $B-L$ gauge breaking leads to the generation of cosmic strings. The $B-L$ scale here is not constrained by gauge coupling unification. If this scale is very close that of GUT breaking, strings can be unstable due to the decay to monopole-antimonople pair. Such metastable strings can be used to explain the NANOGrav signals of stochastic gravitational wave background, which may be interpreted here as resulting from the decay of metastable cosmic strings.

Taxonomy of scalar potential with U-dual fluxes

In the context of $N =1$ four-dimensional type IIB supergravity theories, the U-dual completion arguments suggest to include four S-dual pairs of fluxes in the holomorphic superpotential, namely the so-called $(F, \, H), \, (Q, \, P), \, (P^\prime, Q^\prime)$ and $(H^\prime, \, F^\prime)$. These can generically induce cubic polynomials for the complex-structure moduli as well as the Kähler-moduli in the flux superpotential. In this article, we explore the insights of the four-dimensional non-geometric scalar potential in the presence of such generalized U-dual fluxes by considering an explicit type IIB toroidal compactification model based on an orientifold of ${\mathbb T}^6/({\mathbb Z}_2 \times {\mathbb Z}_2)$ orbifold. First, we observe that the flux superpotential induces a huge scalar potential having a total of 76276 terms involving 128 flux parameters and 14 real scalars. Subsequently, we invoke a new set of (the so-called) ``axionic fluxes" comprising combinations of the standard fluxes and the RR axions, and it turns out that these axionic fluxes can be very useful in rewriting the scalar potential in a relatively compact form. In this regard, using the metric of the compactifying toroidal sixfold, we present a new formulation of the effective scalar potential, which might be useful for understanding the higher-dimensional origin of the various pieces via the so-called ``dimensional oxidation" process. We also discuss the generalized Bianchi identities and the tadpole cancellation conditions, which can be important while seeking the physical (AdS/dS) vacua in such models.

Seeking de-Sitter Vacua in the String Landscape

In this report, we present a concise review on the various moduli stabilisation schemes proposed in the context of type IIB superstring compactifications using Calabi-Yau orientifolds. We discuss the details of the known schemes by classifying them into two categories; the first one includes non-perturbative superpotential contributions leading to the well-known class of models like KKLT, Racetrack and LVS, while the second one includes only perturbative corrections arising from the series of $α^\prime$- and string-loop effects, leading to a new scheme - known as perturbative LVS. In addition, we motivate and briefly discuss about the global embedding requirements for all these moduli stabilisation schemes, and present some details for the perturbative LVS scheme by focusing on a concrete CY orientifold setting. In this context, the resulting 4D effective supergravity model indeed does not receive any non-pertubative superpotential effects due to the lack of necessary divisor topologies, and the Kähler moduli stabilisation is performed entirely by perturbative effects, leading to AdS minimum with exponentially large VEV for the overall volume of the internal CY manifold. It is further shown how this class of AdS solutions can be uplifted to de-Sitter solutions by using a couple of prescriptions such as $D$-term uplifting and the $T$-brane uplifting.

Sterile neutrinos, $0νββ$ decay and the W-boson mass anomaly in a Flipped $SU(5)$ from F-theory

We investigate the low energy properties of an effective local model with flipped $SU(5)\times U(1)_χ$ gauge group, constructed within the framework of F-theory. Its origin is traced back to the $SO(10)$ symmetry -- associated with a geometric singularity of the compactification manifold -- broken by an internal flux which is turned on along the seven-brane in the $U(1)_χ$ direction. Topological properties and the choice of flux parameters determine the massless spectrum of the model to be that of the minimal flipped $SU(5)$ supplemented with an extra right-handed electron-type state and its complex conjugate, $E^c+\bar E^c$, as well as neutral singlet fields. The subsequent symmetry breaking to the $SU(3)\times SU(2)\times U(1)_Y$ gauge group occurs with a Higgs pair in $10+\overline{10}$ representations of $SU(5)$. Next we proceed to the phenomenological analysis of the resulting effective model and the salient outcomes are: The $E^c+\bar E^c$ pair acquires a mass of few TeV and as such could solve the $g_μ-2$ discrepancy. Neutrino couplings to extra neutral singlets lead to an inverse seesaw mechanism where an extra light state could be a suitable dark matter candidate. The predictions of the model for the ${0ν}ββ$ decay rate could be tested in near future experiments. There are non-unitarity deviations from lepton mixing matrix ($U_{PMNS}$), which could in principle explain the new precision measurement of the W-boson mass recently reported by CDF II collaboration.

Smooth Hybrid Inflation with Low Reheat Temperature and Observable Gravity Waves in $SU(5) \times U(1)_χ$ Super-GUT

We realize smooth hybrid inflation in the framework of supersymmetric $SU(5) \times U(1)_χ\subset SO(10)$ model which provides a natural solution to the monopole problem appearing in the spontaneous symmetry breaking of $SU(5)$. The breaking of $U(1)_χ$ symmetry leaves a residual discrete $Z_2$ symmetry, that serves as the MSSM matter parity, realizing the possibility of the lightest supersymmetric particle as a cold dark matter candidate. The $d = 5$ proton lifetime for the decay $p \rightarrow K^+ \barν$, mediated by color-triplet Higgsinos is found to satisfy current experimental bounds if split-high scale SUSY scenario is employed. We show that with minimal Kähler potential, the soft supersymmetry breaking terms play a vital rôle in bringing the scalar spectral index $n_s$ within the Planck's latest bounds. In a minimal Kähler potential setup, small values of tensor-to-scalar ratio $r \lesssim 3.5 \times 10^{-7}$ are obtained, whereas the gravitino mass turns out to be in the range that favors PeV scale SUSY but is not sufficiently high to avoid the $d = 5$ proton decay. A non-minimal Kähler potential including higher-order corrections is required to realize successful inflation with central value of scalar spectral index $n_s = 0.9655$, large tensor modes $r \lesssim 0.056$ and a low reheat temperature $(3\times 10^{6} \lesssim T_r \lesssim 6.5 \times 10^7 )$ GeV consistent with leptogenesis and baryogenesis.

Stabilising all Kähler moduli in perturbative LVS

In this work we investigate the moduli stabilisation problem and the requirements for de Sitter vacua within the framework of type IIB string theory. Using perturbative effects arising from the various sources such as $α^\prime$ corrections, logarithmic as well as KK and winding-type string-loop corrections along with the higher derivative $F^4$-contributions, we present a moduli stabilisation scheme in which the overall volume is realised at exponentially large values such that $\langle {\cal V} \rangle \simeq e^{a/g_s^2}$ in the weak coupling regime, where $a$ is a parameter given as $a = \frac{ζ[3]}{2 ζ[2]} \simeq 0.365381$. We also present a concrete global construction using a $K3$-fibred CY threefold with $h^{1,1} =3$ which shares many of its properties with those of the standard toroidal case, and subsequently generates the appropriate corrections needed to fix all the three Kähler moduli at the perturbative level. We further discuss whether de Sitter vacua can be ensured through appropriate contributions of uplifting terms in the effective potential.

Hybrid inflation and waterfall field in string theory from D7-branes

We present an explicit string realisation of a cosmological inflationary scenario we proposed recently within the framework of type IIB flux compactifications in the presence of three magnetised D7-brane stacks. Inflation takes place around a metastable de Sitter vacuum. The inflaton is identified with the volume modulus and has a potential with a very shallow minimum near the maximum. Inflation ends due to the presence of "waterfall" fields that drive the evolution of the Universe from a nearby saddle point towards a global minimum with tuneable vacuum energy describing the present state of our Universe.

Flipped SU(5) with modular $A_4$ symmetry

We study Flipped $SU(5)\times U(1)$ Grand Unified Theories (GUTs) with $Γ_3\simeq A_4$ modular symmetry. We propose two models with different modular weights assignments, where the fermion mass hierarchy can arise from weighton fields. In order to relax the constraint on the Dirac neutrino Yukawa matrix we appeal to mechanisms which allow incomplete GUT representations, allowing a good fit to quark and charged lepton masses and quark mixing for a single modulus field $τ$, with the neutrino masses and lepton mixing well determined by the type I seesaw mechanism, at the expense of some tuning. We also discuss the double seesaw possibility allowed by the extra singlets generically predicted in such string inspired theories.

Remarks on the effects of quantum corrections on moduli stabilization and de Sitter vacua in type IIB string theory

The rôle of string loop corrections on the existence of de Sitter vacua and the moduli stabilization problem is examined in type IIB effective theories. The fundamental building blocks are a minimum of three intersecting D7 brane stacks, three Kähler moduli, and a novel Einstein-Hilbert term associated with higher derivative terms of the 10-dimensional effective action. It was shown in previous works that loop corrections appear which induce novel logarithmic volume-dependent terms in the effective potential. When D-term contributions are considered, all Kähler moduli are stabilized and de Sitter vacua are achieved. In the present work, a comprehensive study of multiple non-perturbative terms in the superpotential is undertaken. The combined effects of the logarithmic loop corrections and two non-perturbative superpotential Kähler moduli dependent terms have been investigated. It is shown that a variety of fluxes exist for large as well as moderate volume compactifications which define a de Sitter space and stabilize the moduli fields. For large volumes, a generic simple form of the potential is achieved. The so obtained effective potential appears to be promising for cosmological applications.

Gravitino Dark matter, Non Thermal Leptogenesis and Low reheating temperature in No-scale Higgs Inflation

We revisit Higgs inflation in the framework of a minimal extension of the Standard Model gauge symmetry by a $U(1)_{B-L}$ factor. Various aspects are taken into account with particular focus on the role of the supersymmetry breaking (SUSY) scale and the cosmological constraints associated with the gravitino. The scalar potential of the model is considered in the context of no-scale supergravity consisting of the F-part constructed from the Kähler function, the D-terms and soft SUSY contributions. We investigate several limiting cases and by varying the SUSY scale from a few TeV up to intermediate energies, for a spectral index around $n_s\sim 0.9655$ and reheating temperature $T_r\le 10^{9}$ GeV we find that the value of the tensor-to-scalar ratio ranges from $r\approx 10^{-3}$ to $10^{-2}$. Furthermore, it is shown that for certain regions of the parameter space the gravitino can live sufficiently long and as such is a potential candidate for a dark matter component. In general, the inflationary scenario is naturally implemented and it is consistent with non-thermal leptogenesis whereas the dominant decay channel of the inflaton yields right-handed neutrinos. Other aspects of cosmology and particle physics phenomenology are briefly discussed. Finally, we investigate the case where the inflaton is initially relaxed in a false minimum and estimate its probability to decay to the true vacuum.

Low Scale String Theory Benchmarks for Hidden Photon Dark Matter Interpretations of the XENON1T Anomaly

An excess of low-energy electronic recoil events over known backgrounds was recently observed in the XENON1T detector, where $285$ events are observed compared to an expected $232 \pm 15$ events from the background-only fit to the data in the energy range 1-7 keV. This could be due to the beta decay of an unexpected tritium component, or possibly to new physics. One plausible new physics explanation for the excess is absorption of hidden photon dark matter relics with mass around $2.8$ keV and kinetic mixing of about $10^{-15}$, which can also explain cooling excesses in horizontal-branch (HB) stars. Such small gauge boson masses and couplings can naturally arise from type-IIB low scale string theory. We provide a fit of the XENON1T excess in terms of a minimal low scale type-IIB string theory parameter space and present some benchmark points which provide a good fit to the data. It is also demonstrated how the required transformation properties of the massless spectrum are obtained in intersecting D-brane models.

Inflation near a metastable de Sitter vacuum from moduli stabilisation

We study the cosmological properties of a metastable de Sitter vacuum obtained recently in the framework of type IIB flux compactifications in the presence of three D7-brane stacks, based on perturbative quantum corrections at both world-sheet and string loop level that are dominant at large volume and weak coupling. In the simplest case, the model has one effective parameter controlling the shape of the potential of the inflaton which is identified with the volume modulus. The model provides a phenomenological successful small-field inflation for a value of the parameter that makes the minimum very shallow and near the maximum. The horizon exit is close to the inflection point while most of the required e-folds of the Universe expansion are generated near the minimum, with a prediction for the ratio of tensor-to-scalar primordial fluctuations $r \sim 4 \times 10^{-4}$. Despite its shallowness, the minimum turns out to be practically stable. We show that it can decay only through the Hawking-Moss instanton leading to an extremely long decay rate. Obviously, in order to end inflation and obtain a realistic model, new low-energy physics is needed around the minimum, at intermediate energy scales of order $10^{12}$ GeV. An attractive possibility is by introducing a "waterfall"' field within the framework of hybrid inflation.

Note on de Sitter vacua from perturbative and non-perturbative dynamics in type IIB/F-theory compactifications

The properties of the effective scalar potential are studied in the framework of type IIB string theory, taking into account perturbative and non-perturbative corrections. The former modify the Kähler potential and include $α'$ and logarithmic corrections generated when intersecting D7 branes are part of the internal geometric configuration. The latter add exponentially suppressed Kähler moduli dependent terms to the fluxed superpotential. The possibility of partial elimination of such terms which may happen for particular choices of world fluxes is also taken into account. That being the case, a simple set up of three Kähler moduli is considered in the large volume regime, where only one of them is assumed to induce non-perturbative corrections. It is found that the shape of the F-term potential crucially depends on the parametric space associated with the perturbative sector and the volume modulus. De Sitter vacua can be obtained by implementing one of the standard mechanisms, i.e., either relying on D-terms related to $U(1)$ symmetries associated with the $D7$ branes, or introducing $\overline{D3}$ branes. In general it is observed that the combined effects of non-perturbative dynamics and the recently introduced logarithmic corrections lead to an effective scalar potential displaying interesting cosmological and phenomenological properties.

Logarithmic loop corrections, moduli stabilisation and de Sitter vacua in string theory

We study string loop corrections to the gravity kinetic terms in type IIB compactifications on Calabi-Yau threefolds or their orbifold limits, in the presence of $D7$-branes and orientifold planes. We show that they exhibit in general a logarithmic behaviour in the large volume limit transverse to the $D7$-branes, induced by a localised four-dimensional Einstein-Hilbert action that appears at a lower order in the closed string sector, found in the past. Here, we compute the coefficient of the logarithmic corrections and use them to provide an explicit realisation of a mechanism for Kähler moduli stabilisation that we have proposed recently, which does not rely on non-perturbative effects and lead to de Sitter vacua. Our result avoids no-go theorems of perturbative stabilisation due to runaway potentials, in a way similar to the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism, and provides a counter example to one of the swampland conjectures concerning de Sitter vacua in quantum gravity, once string loop effects are taken into account; it thus paves the way for embedding the Standard Model of particle physics and cosmology in string theory.
