A kT-dependent sea-quark density for the CASCADE Monte Carlo event generator

Parton-shower event generators that go beyond the collinear-ordering approximation at small x have so far included only gluon and valence quark channels at transverse momentum dependent level. We describe results of recent work to include effects of the sea-quark distribution with explicit dependence on the transverse quark-momentum.This sea-quark density is then applied to the description of forward Z -production. The qq*->Z matrix element (with one off-shell quark) is calculated in an explicit gauge invariant way, making use of high energy factorization. The kT-factorized result has been implemented into the CCFM Monte-Carlo CASCADE and a numerical comparison with the qg*->Zq matrix element has been carried out.

TMD PDFs: a Monte Carlo implementation for the sea quark distribution

This article gives an introduction to transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions and their use in shower Monte Carlo event generators for high-energy hadron collisions, and describes recent progress in the treatment of sea quark effects within a TMD parton-shower framework.

Forward Jets and Energy Flow in Hadronic Collisions

We observe that at the Large Hadron Collider, using forward + central detectors, it becomes possible for the first time to carry out calorimetric measurements of the transverse energy flow due to "minijets" accompanying production of two jets separated by a large rapidity interval. We present parton-shower calculations of energy flow observables in a high-energy factorized Monte Carlo framework, designed to take into account QCD logarithmic corrections both in the large rapidity interval and in the hard transverse momentum. Considering events with a forward and a central jet, we examine the energy flow in the interjet region and in the region away from the jets. We discuss the role of these observables to analyze multiple parton collision effects.

Unintegrated gluon distribution and soft pp collisions at LHC

We found the parameterization of the unintegrated gluon distribution from the best description of the LHC data on the inclusive spectra of hadrons produced in $pp$ collisions at the mid-rapidity region and small transverse momenta. It is different from the one obtained within perturbative QCD only at low intrinsic transverse momenta $k_t$. The application of this distribution to analysis of the $e-p$ DIS allows us to get the results which do not contradict the H1 and ZEUS data on the structure functions at low $x$. So, the connection between the soft processes at LHC and low-$x$ physics at HERA is found.

Transverse Energy Flow with Forward and Central Jets at the LHC

At the LHC, using forward + central detectors, it becomes possible for the first time to carry out measurements of the transverse energy flow due to ``minijets" accompanying production of two jets separated by a large rapidity interval. We discuss parton-shower calculations of energy flow observables in a high-energy factorized Monte Carlo framework, and comment on the role of these observables to study high parton multiplicity effects.

Investigation of beauty production and parton shower effects at LHC

We present hadron-level predictions from the Monte Carlo generator Cascade and parton level calculations of open b quark, b-flavored hadron and inclusive b-jet production in the framework of the kt-factorization QCD approach for the LHC energies. The unintegrated gluon densities in a proton are determined using the CCFM evolution equation and the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin (KMR) prescription. Our predictions are compared with the first data taken by the CMS and LHCb collaborations at 7 TeV. We study the theoretical uncertainties of our calculations and investigate the effects coming from parton showers in initial and final states. The special role of initial gluon transverse momenta in description of the data is pointed out.

Our predictions are compared with the recent data taken by the CMS collaboration.

Forward-Central Jet Correlations at the Large Hadron Collider

For high-pT forward processes at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), QCD logarithmic corrections in the hard transverse momentum and in the large rapidity interval may both be quantitatively significant. The theoretical framework to resum consistently both kinds of logarithmic corrections to higher orders in perturbation theory is based on QCD high-energy factorization. We present numerical Monte Carlo applications of this method to final-state observables associated with production of one forward and one central jet. By computing jet correlations in rapidity and azimuth, we analyze the role of corrections to the parton-showering chain from large-angle gluon radiation, and discuss this in relationship with Monte Carlo results modeling interactions due to multiple parton chains.

Multiparton interactions in ep scattering at HERA

Measurements of jet production in the photoproduction region at HERA are presented, which are sensitive to the underlying event structure. It is argued that in the photoproduction region a significant amount of multi-parton interactions in the collinear factorisation ansatz are needed to describe the measurement. A different approach for higher order parton radiation (CCFM parton showers) can also describe the measurement.

Heavy Flavour Production at Tevatron and Parton Shower Effects

We present hadron-level predictions from the Monte Carlo generator Cascade and numerical calculations of charm and beauty production at the Fermilab Tevatron within the framework of the $k_T$-factorization QCD approach. Our consideration is based on the CCFM-evolved unintegrated gluon densities in a proton. The performed analysis covers the total and differential cross sections of open charm and beauty quarks, $B$ and $D$ mesons (or rather muons from their semileptonic decays) and the total and differential cross sections of $b \bar b$ di-jet hadroproduction. We study the theoretical uncertainties of our calculations and investigate the effects coming from parton showers in initial and final states. Our predictions are compared with the recent experimental data taken by the D0 and CDF collaborations. Special attention is put on the specific angular correlations between the final-state particles. We demonstrate that the final state parton shower plays a crucial role in the description of such observables. The decorrelated part of angular separations can be fully described, if the process $gg^*\rightarrow gg$ is included.

The CCFM Monte Carlo generator CASCADE 2.2.0

CASCADE is a full hadron level Monte Carlo event generator for ep, γp and p\bar{p} and pp processes, which uses the CCFM evolution equation for the initial state cascade in a backward evolution approach supplemented with off - shell matrix elements for the hard scattering. A detailed program description is given, with emphasis on parameters the user wants to change and variables which completely specify the generated events.

Parton showering effects in central heavy-boson hadroproduction

If large-angle multigluon radiation contributes significantly to parton showers associated with heavy boson production at the LHC, appropriate parton branching methods are required for realistic Monte Carlo simulations of final states. We report on a study illustrating such effects in the case of central scalar-boson production. We comment on the possible impact of such studies on the modeling of multi-parton interactions.

Proceedings of the First International Workshop on Multiple Partonic Interactions at the LHC (MPI08)

The objective of this first workshop on Multiple Partonic Interactions (MPI) at the LHC is to raise the profile of MPI studies, summarizing the legacy from the older phenomenology at hadronic colliders and favouring further specific contacts between the theory and experimental communities. The MPI are experiencing a growing popularity and are currently widely invoked to account for observations that would not be explained otherwise: the activity of the Underlying Event, the cross sections for multiple heavy flavour production, the survival probability of large rapidity gaps in hard diffraction, etc. At the same time, the implementation of the MPI effects in the Monte Carlo models is quickly proceeding through an increasing level of sophistication and complexity that in perspective achieves deep general implications for the LHC physics. The ultimate ambition of this workshop is to promote the MPI as unification concept between seemingly heterogeneous research lines and to profit of the complete experimental picture in order to constrain their implementation in the models, evaluating the spin offs on the LHC physics program.

Forward Jet Production at the Large Hadron Collider

At the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) it will become possible for the first time to investigate experimentally the forward region in hadron-hadron collisions via high-$p_T$ processes. In the LHC forward kinematics QCD logarithmic corrections in the hard transverse momentum and in the large rapidity interval may both be quantitatively significant. We analyze the hadroproduction of forward jets in the framework of QCD high-energy factorization, which allows one to resum consistently both kinds of corrections to higher orders in QCD perturbation theory. We compute the short-distance matrix elements needed to evaluate the factorization formula at fully exclusive level. We discuss numerically dynamical features of multi-gluon emission at large angle encoded in the factorizing high-energy amplitudes.

In this region QCD logarithmic corrections in the hard transverse momentum and in the large rapidity interval may both be quantitatively significant. We describe results of using high-energy factorization techniques, which allow one to take into account both kinds of corrections to higher orders in QCD.
