Thermodynamics of Black Holes in Rastall Gravity

A promising theory in modifying general relativity by violating the ordinary energy-momentum conservation law in curved spacetime is the Rastall theory of gravity. In this theory, geometry and matter fields are coupled to each other in a non-minimal way. Here, we study thermodynamic properties of some black hole solutions in this framework, and compare our results with those of general relativity. We demonstrate how the presence of these matter sources may amplify effects caused by the Rastall parameter in thermodynamic quantities. Our investigation also shows that black holes with radius smaller than a certain amount ($\equiv r_0$) have negative heat capacity in the Rastall framework. In fact, it is a lower bound for the possible values of horizon radius satisfied by stable black holes.

Generalized entropy formalism and a new holographic dark energy model

Recently, the Rényi and Tsallis generalized entropies have extensively been used in order to study various cosmological and gravitational setups. Here, using a special type of generalized entropy, a generalization of both the Rényi and Tsallis entropy, together with holographic principle, we build a new model for holographic dark energy. Thereinafter, considering a flat FRW universe, filled by a pressureless component and the new obtained dark energy model, the evolution of cosmos has been investigated showing satisfactory results and behavior. In our model, the Hubble horizon plays the role of IR cutoff, and there is no mutual interaction between the cosmos components. Our results indicate that the generalized entropy formalism may open a new window to become more familiar with the nature of spacetime and its properties.

Einstein and Rastall Theories of Gravitation in Comparison

We profit by a recent paper of Visser claiming that Rastall gravity is equivalent to Einstein gravity to compare the two gravitational theories in a general way. Our conclusions are different from Visser's ones. We indeed argue that these two theories are not equivalent. In fact, Rastall theory of gravity is an "open" theory when compared to Einstein general theory of relativity. Thus, it is ready to accept the challenges of observational cosmology and quantum gravity.

Accelerated cosmos in a non-extensive setup

Here, we consider a flat FRW universe whose its horizon entropy meets the Rényi entropy of non-extensive systems. In our model, the ordinary energy-momentum conservation law is not always valid. By applying the Clausius relation as well as the Cai-Kim temperature to the apparent horizon of a flat FRW universe, we obtain modified Friedmann equations. Fitting the model to the observational data on current accelerated universe, some values for the model parameters are also addressed. Our study shows that the current accelerating phase of universe expansion may be described by a geometrical fluid, originated from the non-extensive aspects of geometry, which models a varying dark energy source interacting with matter field in the Rastall way. Moreover, our results indicate that the probable non-extensive features of spacetime may also be used to model a varying dark energy source which does not interact with matter field, and is compatible with the current accelerated phase of universe.

Third gravitational wave polarization mode in Rastall theory and analogy with f(R) theories

The recent starting of the gravitational wave (GW) astronomy with the events GW150914, GW151226, GW170104, and the very recent GW170814 and GW170817 seems to be fundamental not only in order to obtain new intriguing astrophysical information from our surrounding Universe, but also in order to discriminate among Einstein's general theory of relativity (GTR) and alternative gravitational theories. At the present time, despite the cited events, and in particular the last ones, which are the events GW170814 and GW170817, have put very strong constraint on the GTR, extended theories of gravity have not been completely ruled out. Here we discuss, in our knowledge for the first time in the literature, GWs in the Rastall theory of gravity. In fact, the Rastall theory recently obtained a renovated interest in the literature. We show that there is a profound analogy between GWs in f(R) theories of gravity and GWs in the Rastall theory. This will permit us to linearize the Rastall field equations and to find the corresponding GWs. We will also study the motion of the test masses due to GWs in this theory which could help, in principle, to discriminate between the GTR, f(R) theories and the Rastall theory of gravity.

Static traversable wormholes in Lyra manifold

At first, considering the Einstein framework, we introduce some new static traversable wormholes, and study the effects of a dark energy-like source on them. Thereinafter, a brief review on Einstein field equations in Lyra manifold is presented, and we address some static traversable wormholes in the Lyra manifold which satisfy the energy-conditions. It is also shown that solutions introduced in the Einstein framework may also meet the energy conditions in the Lyra manifold. Finally, we focus on vacuum Lyra manifold and find some traversable asymptotically flat wormholes. In summary, our study shows that it is theoretically possible to find a Lyra displacement vector field in a manner in which traversable wormholes satisfy the energy conditions in a Lyra manifold.

Relativistic Bose--Einstein condensates thin-shell wormholes

We construct traversable thin-shell wormholes which are asymptotically Ads/dS applying the cut and paste procedure for the case of an acoustic metric created by a relativistic Bose-Einstein condensate. We examine several definitions of the flare-out condition along with the violation or not of the energy conditions for such relativistic geometries. Under reasonable assumptions about the equation of state of the matter located at the shell, we concentrate on the mechanical stability of wormholes under radial perturbation preserving the original spherical symmetry. To do so, we consider linearized perturbations around static solutions. We obtain that dS acoustic wormholes remain stable under radial perturbations as long as they have small radius, such wormholes with finite radius do not violate the strong/null energy condition. Besides, we show that stable Ads wormhole satisfy some of the energy conditions whereas unstable Ads wormhole with large radii violate them.

The commutator algebra of covariant derivative as general framework for extended gravity. The Rastall theory case and the role of the torsion

In this short review, we discuss the approach of the commutator algebra of covariant derivative to analyse the gravitational theories, starting from the standard Einstein's general theory of relativity and focusing on the Rastall theory. After that, we discuss the important role of the torsion in this mathematical framework. In the Appendix of the paper we analyse the importance of the nascent gravitational wave astronomy as a tool to discriminate among the general theory of relativity and alternative theories of gravity.

Thermodynamic analysis of gravitational field equations in Lyra manifold

Considering the Einstein field equations in Lyra manifold, and applying the unified first law of thermodynamics as well as the Clausius relation to the apparent horizon of FRW universe, we find the entropy of apparent horizon in Lyra manifold. In addition, the validity of second law of thermodynamics and its generalized form are also studied. Finally, we use the first law of thermodynamics in order to find the horizon entropy of static spherically symmetric spacetimes. Some results of considering (anti)de-Sitter and Schwarzschild metrics have also been addressed.

Revisiting Holographic Dark Energy in Cyclic Cosmology

Considering the holographic dark energy (HDE) with two different Infrared (IR) cutoffs, we study the evolution of a cyclic universe which avoids the Big-Rip singularity. Our results show that, even in the absence of a mutual interaction between the cosmos sectors, the HDE model with the Hubble radius as IR cutoff can mimics a cosmological constant in the framework of a cyclic cosmology. In addition, we find that both the interacting and non-interacting universes may enter into a cycle of sequential contraction and expansion, if the Granda-Oliveros (GO) cutoff is chosen as the IR cutoff in the energy density of the HDE.

Traversable asymptotically flat wormholes in Rastall gravity

There are some gravitational theories in which the ordinary energy-momentum conservation law is not valid in the curved spacetime. Rastall gravity is one of the known theories in this regard which includes a non-minimal coupling between geometry and matter fields. Equipped with the basis of such theory, we study the properties of traversable wormholes with flat asymptotes. We investigate the possibility of exact solutions by a source with the baryonic matter state parameter. Our survey indicates that Rastall theory has considerable effects on the wormhole characteristics. In addition, we study various case studies and show that the weak energy condition may be met for some solutions. We also give a discussion regarding to traversability of such wormhole geometry with phantom sources.

A Generalization to the Rastall Theory and Cosmic Eras

A generalized version for the Rastall theory is proposed showing the agreement with the cosmic accelerating expansion. In this regard, a coupling between geometry and the pressureless matter fields is derived which may play the role of dark energy responsible for the current accelerating expansion phase. Moreover, our study also shows that the radiation field may not be coupled to the geometry in a non-minimal way which represents that the ordinary energy-momentum conservation law is respected by the radiation source. It is also shown that the primary inflationary era may be justified by the ability of the geometry to couple to the energy-momentum source in an empty flat FRW universe. In fact, this ability is independent of the existence of the energy-momentum source and may compel the empty flat FRW universe to expand exponentially. Finally, we consider a flat FRW universe field by a spatially homogeneous scalar field evolving in potential $\mathcal{V}(ϕ)$, and study the results of applying the slow-roll approximation to the system which may lead to an inflationary phase for the universe expansion.

Ghost dark energy with sign-changeable interaction term

Regarding the Veneziano ghost of QCD and its generalized form, we consider a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe filled by a pressureless matter and a dark energy component interacting with each other through a mutual sign-changeable interaction of positive coupling constant. Our study shows that, at the late time, for the deceleration parameter we have $q\rightarrow-1$, while the equation of state parameter of the interacting ghost dark energy (GDE) does not cross the phantom line, namely $ω_D\geq-1$. We also extend our study to the generalized ghost dark energy (GGDE) model and show that, at late time, the equation of state parameter of the interacting GGDE also respects the phantom line in both flat and non-flat universes. Moreover, we find out that, unlike the non-flat universe, we have $q\rightarrow-1$ at late time for flat FRW universe. In order to make the behavior of the underlying models more clear, the deceleration parameter $q$ as well as the equation of state parameter $w_D$ for flat and closed universes have been plotted against the redshift parameter, $z$. All of the studied cases admit a transition in the expansion history of universe from a deceleration phase to an accelerated one around $z\approx 0.6$

Thermodynamics of flat FLRW universe in Rastall Theory

In this paper, after referring to the Rastall theory, we address some of its cosmological consequences. Moreover, bearing the Clausius relation in mind, using Friedman equations in Rastall theory and the Cai-Kim temperature, we obtain a relation for the apparent horizon entropy of a flat FLRW universe. In addition, we impose the entropy positivity condition on the obtained relation for the horizon entropy, to find some constraints on the Rastall parameters. Moreover, we investigate the second and generalized second laws of thermodynamics. The results of considering a dominated prefect fluid with constant state parameter are also addressed helping us familiarize with the Rastall theory.

Holographic dark energy with the sign-changeable interaction term

We use three IR cutoffs, including the future event horizon, the Hubble and Granda-Oliveros (GO) cutoffs, to construct three holographic models of dark energy. Additionally, we consider a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe filled by a dark matter (DM) and a dark energy that interact with each other through a mutual sign-changeable interaction. Thereinafter, we address the evolution of the some cosmological parameters, such as the equation of state and dimensionless density parameters of dark energy as well as the deceleration parameter, during the cosmic evolution from the matter dominated era until the late time acceleration. We observe that a holographic dark energy (HDE) model with Hubble cutoff interacting with DM may be in line with the current universe. Our study shows that models with the future event horizon as the IR cutoff or the GO cutoff are in good agreement with the observational data. In fact, we find out that these obtained models can predict the universe transition from a deceleration phase to the acceleration one in a compatible way with observations. The three obtained models may also allow the equation of state parameter to cross the phantom line, a result which depends on the values of the system's constants such as the value of the interaction coupling constant.

Black Hole Solutions in Rastall Theory

The Reissner-Nordström black hole solution in a generic cosmological constant background in the the context of Rastall gravity is obtained. It is shown that the cosmological constant arises naturally from the consistency of the non-vacuum field equations of the Rastall theory for a spherical symmetric spacetime, rather than its {\it ad-hoc} introduction in the usual Einstein and Einstein-Maxwell field equations. The usual Reissner-Nordström, Schwarzschild and Schwarzschild-(anti)de Sitter black hole solutions in the framework of this theory are also addressed as the special independent subclasses of the obtained general solution.

A note on the relations between thermodynamics, energy definitions and Friedmann equations

In what follows, we investigate the relation between the Friedmann and thermodynamic pressure equations, through solving the Friedmann and thermodynamic pressure equations simultaneously. Our investigation shows that a perfect fluid, as a suitable solution for the Friedmann equations leading to the standard modelling of the universe expansion history, cannot simultaneously satisfy the thermodynamic pressure equation and those of Friedmann. Moreover, we consider various energy definitions, such as the Komar mass, and solve the Friedmann and thermodynamic pressure equations simultaneously to get some models for dark energy. The cosmological consequences of obtained solutions are also addressed. Our results indicate that some of obtained solutions may unify the dominated fluid in both the primary inflationary and current accelerating eras into one model. In addition, by taking into account a cosmic fluid of a known equation of state, and combining it with the Friedmann and thermodynamic pressure equations, we obtain the corresponding energy of these cosmic fluids and face their limitations. Finally, we point out the cosmological features of this cosmic fluid and also study its observational constraints.

Thermodynamical description of modified generalized Chaplygin gas model of dark energy

We consider a universe filled by a modified generalized Chaplygin gas together with a pressureless dark matter component. We get a thermodynamical interpretation for the modified generalized Chaplygin gas confined to the apparent horizon of FRW universe, whiles dark sectors do not interact with each other. Thereinafter, by taking into account a mutual interaction between the dark sectors of the cosmos, we find a thermodynamical interpretation for interacting modified generalized Chaplygin gas. Additionally, probable relation between the thermal fluctuations of the system and the assumed mutual interaction is investigated. Finally, we show that if one wants to solve the coincidence problem by using this mutual interaction, then the coupling constants of the interaction will be constrained. The corresponding constraint is also addressed. Moreover, the thermodynamic interpretation of using either a generalized Chaplygin gas or a Chaplygin gas to describe dark energy is also addressed throughout the paper.
