Quantum speed limit for arbitrary initial states

We investigate the generic bound on the minimal evolution time of the open dynamical quantum system. This quantum speed limit time is applicable to both mixed and pure initial states. We then apply this result to the damped Jaynes-Cummings model and the Ohimc-like dephasing model starting from a general time-evolution state. The bound of this time-dependent state at any point in time can be found. For the damped Jaynes-Cummings model, the corresponding bound first decreases and then increases in the Markovian dynamics. While in the non-Markovian regime, the speed limit time shows an interesting periodic oscillatory behavior. For the case of Ohimc-like dephasing model, this bound would be gradually trapped to a fixed value. In addition, the roles of the relativistic effects on the speed limit time for the observer in non-inertial frames are discussed.

Single-photon quantum router with multiple output ports

We study the multi-channel quantum routing of the single photons in a waveguide-emitter system. The channels are composed by the waveguides and are connected by intermediate two-level emitters. By adjusting the intermediate emitters, the output channels of the input single photons can be controlled. This is demonstrated for the cases of one output channel, two output channels and the generic N output channels. The results show that the multi-channel quantum routing of single photons can be well achieved in present system. This sheds light on the experimental realization of quantum routing of single photons.

Measurement-based Quantum Computation Under Different Types of Noises

Measurement based quantum computation (MBQC) is an effective paradigm for universal quantum computation. In this scheme, the universal set of quantum gates are realized by only local measurements on the prior prepared cluster states. The inevitable decoherence is harmful to the realization of those quantum gates. Here, we investigate the performance of the quantum gates exposed to different type of noises. We find that some errors may not influence the success of the quantum gates, in contrast, some others may destroy their realization. We show that there is a controlling pattern that can protect quantum gates from certain types of noises and thus can improve the success probability of the gates implementation.

Finite-field calculation of the polarizabilities and hyperpolarizabilities of Al$^{+}$

In this study, accurate static dipole polarizability and hyperpolarizability are calculated for Al$^+$ ground state 3s$^{2}$ $^{1}$S$_{0}$ and excited state $3s3p$ $^{3}$P$_{J}$ with $J$=0, 1, 2. The finite-field computations use energies obtained with the relativistic configuration interaction approach and the relativistic coupled-cluster approach. Excellent agreement with previously recommended values is found for the dipole polarizability of Al$^{+}$ ground state 3s$^{2}$ $^{1}$S$_{0}$ and excited state $3s3p$ $^{3}$P$_{0}$ as well as the hyperpolarizability of the ground state 3s$^{2}$ $^{1}$S$_{0}$. The recommended values of the dipole polarizability of the Al$^{+}$ $3s3p$ $^{3}$P$_{1}$ and $^{3}$P$_{2}$ and the hyperpolarizability of Al$^{+}$ $3s3p$ $^{3}$P$_{0}$, $^{3}$P$_{1}$, and $^{3}$P$_{2}$ are also given. The impacts of the relativity and spin-orbit coupling are elucidated by analyzing the angular momentum dependence of the dipole polarizability and the hyperpolarizability and comparing the fully and scalar relativistic calculated data. It is shown that the impact of the relativity and spin-orbit coupling are small for the dipole polarizability but become significant for the hyperpolarizability. Finally, the black-body radiation shifts contributed by the dipole polarizability and hyperpolarizability respectively are evaluated for transitions of Al$^{+}$ 3s$^{2}$ $^{1}$S$_{0}$ to $3s3p$ $^{3}$P$_{J}$ with $J$=0, 1, 2.

A Double-Threshold Technique for Fast Time-Correspondence Imaging

We present a robust imaging method based on time-correspondence imaging and normalized ghost imaging (GI) that sets two thresholds to select the reference frame exposures for image reconstruction. This double-threshold time-correspondence imaging protocol always gives better quality and signal-to-noise ratio than previous GI schemes, and is insensitive to surrounding noise. Moreover, only simple add and minus operations are required while less data storage space and computing time are consumed, thus faster imaging speeds are attainable. The protocol offers a general approach applicable to all GI techniques, and marks a further step forward towards real-time practical applications of correlation imaging.

Tunable Band Topology Reflected by Fractional Quantum Hall States in Two-Dimensional Lattices

Two-dimensional lattice models subjected to an external effective magnetic field can form nontrivial band topologies characterized by nonzero integer band Chern numbers. In this Letter, we investigate such a lattice model originating from the Hofstadter model and demonstrate that the band topology transitions can be realized by simply introducing tunable longer-range hopping. The rich phase diagram of band Chern numbers is obtained for the simple rational flux density and a classification of phases is presented. In the presence of interactions, the existence of fractional quantum Hall states in both |C|=1 and |C|>1 bands is confirmed, which can reflect the band topologies in different phases. In contrast, when our model reduces to a one-dimensional lattice, the ground states are crucially different from fractional quantum Hall states. Our results may provide insights into the study of new fractional quantum Hall states and experimental realizations of various topological phases in optical lattices.

Super-quantum correlation and geometry for Bell-diagonal states with weak measurements

We propose "super one-way deficit" by weak measurement as the generalization of one-way deficit defined for standard projective measurement. The super one-way deficit for Werner state is obtained analytically. We find that super one-way deficit is smaller than the standard one-way deficit, which contrasts with a straightforward expectation based on the known fact that super-quantum discord by weak measurement is always larger than the quantum discord defined by projective measurement. On the other hand, by tuning the weak measurement continuously to the projective measurement, both super one-way deficit and super-quantum discord converge to the same value, which is either the one-way deficit or the quantum discord both quantifying quantum correlation. In this sense, weak measurement does not necessarily capture more quantumness of correlations. We also give the geometry of super- quantum discord of the Bell-diagonal states with explicit geometrical figures. As an application, the dynamic behavior of super- quantum correlation including super-quantum discord and super one-way deficit under decoherence is investigated. We find that the order relation of the super-quantum correlation and the quantum correlation keep unchanged under the phase flipping channel for the Bell-diagonal states and the Werner states.

Entropic uncertainty relations under the relativistic motion

The uncertainty principle bounds our ability to simultaneously predict two incompatible observables of a quantum particle. Assisted by a quantum memory to store the particle, this uncertainty could be reduced and quantified by a new Entropic Uncertainty Relation (EUR). In this Letter, we explore how the relativistic motion of the system would affect the EUR in two sample scenarios. First, we show that the Unruh effect of an accelerating particle would surely increase the uncertainty if the system and particle entangled initially. On the other hand, the entanglement could be generated from nonuniform motion once the Unruh decoherence is prevented by utilizing the cavity. We show that, in a uncertainty game between an inertial cavity and a nonuniformly accelerated one, the uncertainty evolves periodically with respect to the duration of acceleration segment. Therefore, with properly chosen cavity parameters, the uncertainty bound could be protected. Implications of our results for gravitation are also discussed.

Local characterization of 1d topologically ordered states

We consider 1d Hamiltonian systems whose ground states display symmetry protected topological order. We show that ground states within the topological phase cannot be connected with each other through LOCC between a bipartition of the system. Our claim is demonstrated by analyzing the entanglement spectrum and Renyi entropies of different physical systems providing examples for symmetry protected topological phases. Specifically, we consider spin-1/2 Cluster-Ising model and a class of spin-1 models undergoing quantum phase transitions to the Haldane phase. Our results provide a probe for simmetry-protected topological order, that holds true even at the system's local scale. Therefore our analysis can serve as as local experimental test for topological order.

The witness of sudden change of geometric quantum correlation

In this paper, we give a sufficient and necessary condition (witness) for the sudden change of geometric quantum discord by considering mathematical definition of the discontinuity of a function. Based on the witness, we can find out various sudden changes of quan- tum correlation by considering both the Markovian and the non-Markovian cases. In particular, we can accurately find out critical points of the sudden changes even though they are not quite obvious in the graphical representation. In addition, one can also find that sudden change of quantum correlation, like the frozen quantum correlation, strongly depends on the choice of the quantum correlation measure.

Tunable single-photon frequency conversion in a Sagnac interferometer

We study the single-photon frequency conversion of a five-level emitter coupled to a Sagnac interferometer. We show that the unity conversion efficiency can be achieved either in resonance or off-resonance case under the ideal condition. In particular, the frequency of the output photon can be controlled by the frequencies and Rabi frequencies of the external driving fields.

Upper bound and shareability of quantum discord based on entropic uncertainty relations

By using the quantum-memory-assisted entropic uncertainty relation (EUR), we derive a computable tight upper bound for quantum discord, which applies to an arbitrary bipartite state. Detailed examples show that this upper bound is tighter than other known bounds in a wide regime. Furthermore, we show that for any tripartite pure state, the quantum-memory-assisted EUR imposes a constraint on the shareability of quantum correlations among the constituent parties. This conclusion amends the well accepted result that quantum discord is not monogamous.

The Euler Number of Bloch States Manifold and the Quantum Phases in Gapped Fermionic Systems

We propose a topological Euler number to characterize nontrivial topological phases of gapped fermionic systems, which originates from the Gauss-Bonnet theorem on the Riemannian structure of Bloch states established by the real part of the quantum geometric tensor in momentum space. Meanwhile, the imaginary part of the geometric tensor corresponds to the Berry curvature which leads to the Chern number characterization. We discuss the topological numbers induced by the geometric tensor analytically in a general two-band model. As an example, we show that the zero-temperature phase diagram of a transverse field XY spin chain can be distinguished by the Euler characteristic number of the Bloch states manifold in a (1+1)-dimensional Bloch momentum space.

Super-additivity of quantum-correlating power

We prove that, when two local quantum channels are used paralleled, the quantum-correlating power (QCP) of the composed channel is no less than the sum of QCP of the two channels. For local channels with zero QCP, the super-activation of QCP is a fairly common effect, and proved to exist except for the trivial case where both of the channels are completely decohering channels or unitary operators. For general quantum channels, we show that the (not-so-common) additivity of QCP can be observed for the situation where a measuring-and-preparing channel is used together with a completely decohering channel.

Direct Measure of Quantum Correlation

The quantumness of the correlation known as quantum correlation is usually measured by quantum discord. So far various quantum discords can be roughly understood as indirect measure by some special discrepancy of two quantities. We present a direct measure of quantum correlation by revealing the difference between the structures of classically and quantum correlated states. Our measure explicitly includes the contributions of the inseparability and local non-orthogonality of the eigenvectors of a density. Besides its relatively easy computability, our measure can provide a unified understanding of quantum correlation of all the present versions.

The Dual Roles of Quantum Discord in a Non-demolition Probing Task

We present a non-demolition quantum information processing task of probing the information of a class of quantum state. In this task, the information is extracted by some unitary evolution with the introduced probing qubit assisted, but the probed quantum state (density matrix) is undisturbed at any time and independent of the choice of the initial probing state. We give a sufficient and necessary condition on the Hamiltonian that can lead to the successful realization of such a task. We prove that, for any feasible scheme, the probed plus probing system will always stay at a disentangled state with one side quantum discord absent and the other side one inevitably produced in the probing process. An explicit example is given for the demonstration, whilst the example shows that the ratio of quantum discord to the total correlation will have to reduce to zero for the maximal accessible information. In this sense, we say that quantum discord plays the dual roles in this case.

Entangling Power in the Deterministic Quantum Computation with One Qubit

The deterministic quantum computing with one qubit (DQC1) is a mixed-state quantum computation algorithm that evaluates the normalized trace of a unitary matrix and is more powerful than the classical counterpart. We find that the normalized trace of the unitary matrix can be directly described by the entangling power of the quantum circuit of the DQC1, so the nontrivial DQC1 is always accompanied with the non-vanishing entangling power. In addition, it is shown that the entangling power also determines the intrinsic complexity of this quantum computation algorithm, i.e., the larger entangling power corresponds to higher complexity. Besides, it is also shown that the non-vanishing entangling power does always exist in other similar tasks of DQC1.

Constructing positive maps from block matrices

Positive maps are useful for detecting entanglement in quantum information theory. Any entangled state can be detected by some positive map. In this paper, the relation between positive block matrices and completely positive trace-preserving maps is characterized. Consequently, a new method for constructing decomposable maps from positive block matrices is derived. In addition, a method for constructing positive but not completely positive maps from Hermitian block matrices is also obtained.
