Z(3) metastable states in Polyakov Quark Meson model

We study the existence of Z(3) metastable states in the presence of the dynamical quarks within the ambit of Polyakov quark meson (PQM) model. Within the parameters of the model, it is seen that for temperatures $T_m$ greater than the chiral transition temperature $T_c$, Z(3) metastable states exist ( $T_{m} \sim 310$ MeV at zero chemical potential). At finite chemical potential $T_m$ is larger than the same at vanishing chemical potential. We also observe a shift of ($\sim 5^\circ$) in the phase of the metastable vacua at zero chemical potential. The energy density difference between true and Z(3) metastable vacua is very large in this model. This indicates a strong explicit symmetry breaking effect due to quarks in PQM model. We compare this explicit symmetry breaking in PQM model with small explicit symmetry breaking as a linear term in Polyakov loop added to the Polyakov loop potential. We also study about the possibility of domain growth in a quenched transition to QGP in relativistic heavy ion collisions.

Heavy quarkonium moving in hot and dense deconfined nuclear matter

We study the behavior of the complex potential between a heavy quark and its antiquark, which are in relative motion with respect to a hot and dense medium. The heavy quark-antiquark complex potential is obtained by correcting both the Coulombic and the linear terms in the Cornell potential through a dielectric function estimated within the real-time formalism using the hard thermal loop approximation. We show the variation of both the real and the imaginary parts of the potential for different values of velocities when the bound state ($ Q\bar{Q}$ pair) is aligned in the direction parallel as well as perpendicular to the relative velocity of the $ Q\bar{Q}$ pair with the thermal medium. With an increase of the relative velocity the screening of the real part of the potential becomes weaker at short distances and stronger at large distances for the parallel case. However, for the perpendicular case the potential decreases with an increase of the velocity at all distances which results in the larger screening of the potential. In addition, the inclusion of the string term makes the screening of the potential weaker as compared to the Coulombic term alone for both cases. Therefore, by combining all these effects we expect a stronger binding of a $ Q\bar{Q} $ pair in a moving medium in the presence of the string term as compared to the Coulombic term alone. The imaginary part decreases (in magnitude) with an increase of the relative velocity, leading to a decrease of the width of the quarkonium state at higher velocities. The inclusion of the string term increases the magnitude of the imaginary part, which results in an increase of the width of the quarkonium states. All of these effects lead to the modification in the dissolution of quarkonium states.

Estimating transport coefficients in hot and dense quark matter

We compute the transport coefficients, namely, the coefficients of shear and bulk viscosity as well as thermal conductivity for hot and dense quark matter. The calculations are performed within the Nambu- Jona Lasinio (NJL) model. The estimation of the transport coefficients is made using a quasiparticle approach of solving the Boltzmann kinetic equation within the relaxation time approximation. The transition rates are calculated in a manifestly covariant manner to estimate the thermal-averaged cross sections for quark-quark and quark-antiquark scattering. The calculations are performed for finite chemical potential also. Within the parameters of the model, the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density has a minimum at the Mott transition temperature. At vanishing chemical potential, the ratio of bulk viscosity to entropy density, on the other hand, decreases with temperature with a sharp decrease near the critical temperature, and vanishes beyond it. At finite chemical potential, however, it increases slowly with temperature beyond the Mott temperature. The coefficient of thermal conductivity also shows a minimum at the critical temperature.

Medium modification of hadron masses and the thermodynamics of hadron resonance gas model

We study the effect of temperature (T) and baryon density (μ) dependent hadron masses on the thermodynamics of hadronic matter. We use linear scaling rule in terms of constituent quark masses for all hadrons except for light mesons. T and μ dependent constituent quark masses and the light mesons masses are computed using 2+1 flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. We compute the thermodynamical quantities of hadronic matter within excluded volume hadron resonance gas model (EHRG) with these T and μ dependent hadron masses. We confront the thermodynamical quantities with the lattice quantum chromodynamics (LQCD) at μ = 0 GeV. Further, we comment on the effect of T and μ dependent hadron masses on the transport properties near the transition temperature.

Dissipative properties of hot and dense hadronic matter in excluded volume hadron resonance gas model

We estimate dissipative properties viz: shear and bulk viscosities of hadronic matter using relativistic Boltzmann equation in relaxation time approximation within ambit of excluded volume hadron resonance gas (EHRG) model. We find that at zero baryon chemical potential the shear viscosity to entropy ratio ($η/s$) decreases with temperature while at finite baryon chemical potential this ratio shows same behavior as a function of temperature but reaches close to Kovtun-Son-Starinets (KSS) bound. Further along chemical freezout curve, ratio $η/s$ is almost constant apart from small initial monotonic rise. This observation may have some relevance to the experimental finding that the differential elliptic flow of charged hadrons does not change considerably at lower center of mass energy. We further find that bulk viscosity to entropy density ($ζ/s$) decreases with temperature while this ratio has higher value at finite baryon chemical potential at higher temperature. Along freezout curve $ζ/s$ decreases monotonically at lower center of mass energy and then saturates.

CP violation and chiral symmetry breaking in hot and dense quark matter in presence of magnetic field

We investigate chiral symmetry breaking and strong CP violation effects on the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter in presence of a constant magnetic field. The effect of magnetic field and strong CP violating term on the phase structure at finite temperature and density is studied within a three flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model including the Kobayashi-Maskawa-t'Hooft (KMT) determinant term. This is investigated using an explicit variational ansatz for ground state with quark anti-quark pairs leading to condensates both in scalar and pseudoscalar channels. Magnetic field enhances the condensate in both the channels. Inverse magnetic catalysis for CP transition at finite chemical potential is seen for zero temperature and for small magnetic fields.

Bulk and shear viscosities of hot and dense hadron gas

We estimate bulk and shear viscosity at finite temperature and baryon densities of hadronic matter within hadron resonance gas model. For bulk viscosity we use low energy theorems of QCD for the energy momentum tensor correlators. For shear viscosity coefficient, we estimate the same using molecular kinetic theory to relate the shear viscosity coefficient to average momentum of the hadrons in the hot and dense hadron gas. The bulk viscosity to entropy ratio increases with chemical potential and is related to the reduction of velocity of sound at nonzero chemical potential. The shear viscosity to entropy ratio on the other hand, shows a nontrivial behavior with the ratio decreasing with chemical potential for small temperatures but increasing with chemical potential at high temperatures and is related to decrease of entropy density with chemical potential at high temperature due to finite volume of the hadrons.

Kinetics of Phase Transitions in Quark Matter

We study the kinetics of chiral transitions in quark matter using a phenomenological framework (Ginzburg-Landau model). We focus on the effect of inertial terms on the coarsening dynamics subsequent to a quench from the massless quark phase to the massive quark phase. The domain growth process shows a crossover from a fast inertial regime [with $L(t) \sim t (\ln t)^{1/2}$] to a diffusive Cahn-Allen regime [with $L(t)\sim t^{1/2}$].

Domain Growth in Chiral Phase Transitions: Inertial Dynamics

We investigate the kinetics of phase transitions for chiral symmetry breaking in heavy-ion collisions. We use a Langevin description for order-parameter kinetics in the chiral transition. The Langevin equation of motion includes {\it dissipation} and an {\it inertial term}. We study the ordering dynamics subsequent to a quench from the massless quark phase to the massive quark phase, and discuss the effect of inertia on the growth kinetics.

Warm natural inflation

In warm inflation models there is the requirement of generating large dissipative couplings of the inflaton with radiation, while at the same time, not de-stabilising the flatness of the inflaton potential due to radiative corrections. One way to achieve this without fine tuning unrelated couplings is by supersymmetry. In this paper we show that if the inflaton and other light fields are Pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone Bosons then the radiative corrections to the potential are suppressed and the thermal corrections are small as long as the temperature is below the symmetry breaking scale. In such models it is possible to fulfill the contrary requirements of an inflaton potential which is stable under radiative corrections and the generation of a large dissipative coupling of the inflaton field with other light fields. We construct a warm inflation model which gives the observed CMB-anisotropy amplitude and spectral index where the symmetry breaking is at the GUT scale.

Strong CP violation and chiral symmetry breaking in hot and dense quark matter

We investigate chiral symmetry breaking and strong CP violation effects in the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter. We demonstrate the effect of strong CP violating terms on the phase structure at finite temperature and densities in a 3-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model including the Kobayashi-Maskawa-t'Hooft (KMT) determinant term. This is investigated using an explicit structure for the ground state in terms of quark-antiquark condensates for both in the scalar and the pseudoscalar channels. CP restoring transition with temperature at zero baryon density is found to be a second order transition at $θ= π$ while the same at finite chemical potential and small temperature turns out to be a first order transition. Within the model, the tri-critical point turns out to be $(T_c,μ_c)\simeq(273,94)$ MeV at $θ= π$ for such a transition.

Shear viscosity, cavitation and hydrodynamics at LHC

We study evolution of quark-gluon matter in the ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions within the frame work of relativistic second-order viscous hydrodynamics. In particular, by using the various prescriptions of a temperature-dependent shear viscosity to the entropy ratio, we show that the hydrodynamic description of the relativistic fluid become invalid due to the phenomenon of cavitation. For most of the initial conditions relevant for LHC, the cavitation sets in very early during the evolution of the hydrodynamics in time $\lesssim 2 $fm/c. The cavitation in this case is entirely driven by the large values of shear viscosity. Moreover we also demonstrate that the conformal term used in equations of the relativistic dissipative hydrodynamic can influence the cavitation time.

Domain Growth in Chiral Phase Transitions

We investigate the kinetics of chiral phase transitions in quark matter. We discuss the phase diagram of this system in both a microscopic framework (using the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model) and a phenomenological framework (using a Landau free energy). Then, we study the far-from-equilibrium coarsening dynamics subsequent to a quench from the chirally-symmetric phase to the massive quark phase. Depending on the nature of the quench, the system evolves via either {\it spinodal decomposition} or {\it nucleation and growth}. The morphology of the ordering system is characterized using the order-parameter correlation function, structure factor, domain growth laws, etc.

The mass gap equations are solved self consistently and are used to compute the thermodynamic potential. We also derive the equation of state for strange quark matter in the presence of strong magnetic fields which could be relevant for proto-neutron stars. ~

Effect of magnetic field on chiral symmetry breaking in a 3-flavor Nambu Jona Lasinio (NJL) model at finite temperature and densities is considered here using an explicit structure of ground state in terms of quark and antiquark condensates. While at zero chemical potential and finite temperature, magnetic field enhances the condensates, at zero temperature, the critical chemical potential decreases with increasing magnetic field.

Cavitation and thermal dilepton production in QGP

We study the \textit{non-ideal} effects arising due to viscosity (both bulk and shear), equation of state ($ε\neq 3P$) and cavitation on thermal dilepton production from QGP at RHIC energies. We calculate the first order corrections to the dilepton production rates due to shear and bulk viscosities. Ignoring the cavitation can lead to a wrong estimation of dilepton spectra. We show that the shear viscosity can enhance the thermal dilepton spectra whereas the bulk viscosity can suppress it. We present the combined effect of bulk and shear viscosities on the dilepton spectra.
