Relativisitic mean field theory of surface pion condensation in finite nuclei

We study the possible occurrence of surface pion condensation in finite nuclei in the relativistic mean field (RMF) theory. We are led to this conjecture due to the essential role of pions in few-body systems and the recent (p,n) experiments performed at RCNP for spin-isospin excitations of medium and heavy nuclei. We calculate explicitly various N=Z closed shell nuclei with finite pion mean field in the RMF framework and demonstrate the actual occurrence of surface pion condensation.

The Separable Kernel of Nucleon-Nucleon Interaction in the Bethe-Salpeter Approach

The dispersion relations for nucleon-nucleon (NN) T-matrix in the framework of Bethe-Salpeter equation for two spin one-half particle system and with separable kernel of interaction are considered in the paper. The developed expressions are applied for construction of the separable kernel of interaction for S partial-waves in singlet and triplet channels. We calculate the low energy scattering parameters and the phase shifts and also the deuteron binding energy with the separable interaction. The approach can be easily extended to higher partial-waves for NN-scattering and other reactions (anti N N-, pi N-scattering).

Electromagnetic transitions of excited baryons in a deformed oscillator quark model

We study electromagnetic transitions of excited baryons in a deformed oscillator quark model, where baryon excited states are described as rotational bands of deformed intrinsic states. We describe all necessary tools to compute transition amplitudes in multipole basis, which are then related to the commonly used helicity amplitudes. We pay a special attention on the sign of the amplitudes as well as their absolute values by computing the photon and pion couplings simultaneously. We have found that the effect of deformation on the transition amplitudes is rather weak. The difficulty in reproducing the empirical amplitude of the Roper state is discussed.

Weyl Invariant Formulation of Flux-Tube Solution in the Dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory

The flux-tube solution in the dual Ginzburg-Landau (DGL) theory in the Bogomol'nyi limit is studied by using the manifestly Weyl invariant form of the DGL Lagrangian. The dual gauge symmetry is extended to $[U(1)]_m^3$, and accordingly, there appear three different types of the flux-tube. The string tension for each flux-tube is calculated analytically and is found to be the same owing to the Weyl symmetry. It is suggested that the flux-tube can be treated in quite a similar way with the Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen vortex in the U(1) Abelian Higgs theory except for various types of flux-tube.

Neutrino - nucleon reaction rates in the supernova core in the relativistic random phase approximation

In view of the application to supernova simulations, we calculate neutrino reaction rates with nucleons via the neutral and charged currents in the supernova core in the relativistic random phase approximation (RPA) and study their effects on the opacity of the supernova core. The formulation is based on the Lagrangian employed in the calculation of nuclear equation of state (EOS) in the relativistic mean field theory (RMF). The nonlinear meson terms are treated appropriately so that the consistency of the density correlation derived in RPA with the thermodynamic derivative obtained from EOS by RMF is satisfied in the static and long wave length limit. We employ pion and rho meson exchange interactions together with the phenomenological Landau-Migdal parameters for the isospin-dependent nuclear interactions. We find that both the charged and neutral current reaction rates are suppressed from the standard Bruenn's approximate formula considerably in the high density regime. In the low density regime, on the other hand, the vector current contribution to the neutrino-nucleon scattering rate is enhanced in the vicinity of the boundary of the liquid-gas phase transition, while the other contributions are moderately suppressed there also. In the high temperature regime or in the regime where electrons have a large chemical potential, the latter of which is important only for the electron capture process and its inverse process, the recoil of nucleons cannot be neglected and further reduces the reaction rates with respect to the standard approximate formula which discards any energy transfer in the processes. These issues could have a great impact on the neutrino heating mechanism of collapse-driven supernovae.

Quark recombination model for polarizations in inclusive hyperon productions at high energy

We investigate the transverse polarization of hyperons produced by the photon induced reactions using the quark recombination model. This model reproduces polarizations of hadrons produced by the hadron-hadron collisions and accounts for the origin of the empirical rule by DeGrand and Miettinen. We find significant polarizations in the hyperon photoproduction by applying this model to the $γN \ra \Lam $ $(Σ^{0}) + X$ reaction.

Monopole Clustering and Color Confinement in the Multi-Instanton System

We study color confinement properties of the multi-instanton system, which seems to carry an essence of the nonperturbative QCD vacuum. Here we assume that the multi-instanton system is characterized by the infrared suppression of instantons as $f(ρ)\sim ρ^{-5}$ for large size $ρ$. We first investigate a monopole-clustering appearing in the maximally abelian (MA) gauge by considering the correspondence between instantons and monopoles. In order to clarify the infrared monopole properties, we make the ``block-spin'' transformation for monopole currents. The feature of monopole trajectories changes drastically with the instanton density. At a high instanton density, there appears one very long and highly complicated monopole loop covering the entire physical vacuum. Such a global network of long-monopole loops resembles the lattice QCD result in the MA gauge. Second, we observe that the SU(2) Wilson loop obeys an area law and the static quark potential is approximately proportional to the distance $R$ between quark and anti-quark in the multi-instanton system using the SU(2) lattice with a total volume of $V=(10 fm)^4$ and a lattice spacing of $a=0.05 fm$. We extract the string tension from the $5 \times 10^{6}$ measurements of Wilson loops. With an instanton density of $(N/V)=(1/fm)^4$ and a average instanton size of $\barρ=0.4 fm$, the multi-instanton system provides the string tension of about $0.4 GeV/fm$.

Flux-Tube Ring and Glueball Properties in the Dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory

An intuitive approach to the glueball using the flux-tube ring solution in the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory is presented. The description of the flux-tube ring as the relativistic closed string with the effective string tension enables us to write the hamiltonian of the flux-tube ring using the Nambu-Goto action. Analyzing the Schrödinger equation, we discuss the mass spectrum and the wave function of the glueball. The lowest glueball state is found to have the mass $M_G \sim 1.6 GeV$ and the size $R_G \sim 0.5 fm$.

Hadronic flux-tubes in the Dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory

We study the flux-tube solution in the dual Ginzburg-Landau (DGL) theory and apply it to the understanding of quark-gluon-plasma (QGP) formation in the ultra-relativistic heavy ion collision as the multi-flux-tube system. It is concluded that the annihilation process of two flux-tubes can contribute to the QGP formation with the energy deposition $\sim 4 GeV/fm^3$. Furthermore, we study the glueball as the flux-tube ring by combining the DGL theory with the string theory, and find the mass and the size as $\sim 1.2 GeV$ and $\sim 0.22 fm$, respectively.

Behavior of monopole trajectories in the instanton and anti-instanton system at finite temperature

We study the connection between monopoles and instantons in the Polyakov-like gauge, and the behavior of the monopole trajectories generated by instantons at finite temperature. The monopole trajectories become long and complicated at the zero-temperature which can be regarded as monopole condensation. On the other hand, they tend to become simple at finite temperature. It is suggested that such a change is related to the confinement-deconfinement phase transition.

Confinement Properties in the Multi-Instanton System

We investigate the confinement properties in the multi-instanton system, where the size distribution is assumed to be $ ρ^{-5} $ for the large instanton size $ ρ$. We find that the instanton vacuum gives the area law behavior of the Wilson loop, which indicates existence of the linear confining potential. In the multi-instanton system, the string tension increases monotonously with the instanton density, and takes the standard value $ σ\simeq 1 GeV/fm $ for the density $ (N/V)^{1/4} = 200 MeV $. Thus, instantons directly relate to color confinement properties.

Finite Temperature SD Equation for Chiral Symmetry Restoration in Dual Ginzburg-Landau Theory

We study the chiral phase transition at $T\neq 0$ in the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory using the Schwinger-Dyson (SD) equation. In order to solve the SD equation at $T\neq 0$, we provide a new ansatz for the quark self-energy in the imaginary-time formalism. The recovery of the chiral symmetry is found at $T_{_{C}}\sim 100 MeV$ with realistic parameters, which are set by reproducing the values of the string tension $\sqrtσ\simeq 0.44 GeV$ and the chiral condensate $< {\bar q}q > \simeq -(250 MeV}^{3}$ at $T=0$.

Distribution of Instanton and Monopole Clustering

We study the relation between the instanton distribution and the monopole loop length in the SU(2) gauge theory with the abelian gauge fixing. We measure the monopole current from the multi-instanton ensemble on the $16^4$ lattice using the maximally abelian gauge. When the instanton density is dilute, there appear only small monopole loops. On the other hand, in the dense case, there appears one very long monopole loop, which is responsible for the confinement property, in each gauge configuration. We find a clear monopole clustering in the histogram of the monopole loop length from 240 gauge configurations.

Instanton, Monopole and Confinement

We study the correlation between instantons and QCD-monopoles both in the lattice gauge theory and in the multi-instanton system using the maximally abelian gauge. First, we find the existence of an almost linear correlation between the total length of monopole trajectories and the total number of pseudoparticles (instantons and anti-instantons) in the $16^{3}\times4$ SU(2) lattice. Second, we study the features of QCD-monopole in the SU(2) multi-instanton vacuum on the $16^{4}$ lattice as a random ensemble of pseudoparticles. A signal of monopole condensation is found as the clustering of monopole trajectories, when the topological pseudoparticles is sufficiently dense.

Clustering of Monopoles in the Instanton Vacuum

We generate a random instanton vacuum with various densities and size distributions. We perform numerically the maximally abelian gauge fixing of these configurations in order to find monopole trajectories induced by instantons. We find that instanton-induced monopole loops form enormous clusters occupying the whole physical volume, provided instantons are sufficiently dense. It indicates that confinement might be caused by instantons.

Dual Higgs Mechanism and Nonperturbative QCD

We study the dual Higgs mechanism for the nonperturbative QCD. We point out two kind of the ``see-saw'' relations between electric and magnetic sectors. Owing to the Dirac condition $eg=4π$, the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory has the asymptotic freedom nature on the gauge coupling constant $e$, where the ``walking coupling constant'' is predicted for $e$ in the infrared region. We study also QCD-monopoles and instantons, which are two relevant topological objects in QCD. Strong correlations between the QCD-monopole trajectory and the topological charge are found both in the continuum theory and in the lattice gauge theory.

Recent Progress in Nonperturbative QCD Theory and Insight on Cosmological Phase Transition

The QCD phase transition at finite temperature is studied with the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory, which is the QCD effective theory based on the dual Higgs mechanism by QCD-monopole condensation. At high temperature, the confinement force is largely reduced by thermal effects, which leads to the swelling of hadrons. Simple formulae for the surface tension and the thickness of the phase boundary are derived from the shape of the effective potential at the critical temperature. We investigate also the process of the hadron-bubble formation in the early Universe.

Role of Dual Higgs Mechanism in Chiral Phase Transition at Finite Temperature

The chiral phase transition at finite temperature is studied by using the Schwinger-Dyson equation in the dual Ginzburg-Landau theory, in which the dual Higgs mechanism plays an essential role on both the color confinement and the spontaneous chiral-symmetry breaking. At zero temperature, the quark condensate is strongly correlated with the string tension, which is generated by QCD-monopole condensation, as $\langle {\bar q}q \rangle^{1/3} \stackrel{\propto}{\scriptstyle \sim} \sqrtσ$. In order to solve the finite-temperature Schwinger-Dyson equation numerically, we provide a new ansatz for the quark self-energy in the imaginary-time formalism. The recovery of the chiral symmetry is found at high temperature; $T_{_{C}}\sim 100{\rm MeV}$ with realistic parameters. We find also a strong correlation between the critical temperature $T_{_{C}}$ of the chiral symmetry restoration and the strength of the string tension.
