Integrability of two-component nonautonomous nonlinear Schrödinger equation

We investigate the integrability of generalized nonautonomous nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equations governing the dynamics of the single- and double-component Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs). The integrability conditions obtained indicate that the existence of the nonautonomous soliton is due to the balance between the different competition features: the kinetic energy (dispersion) versus the harmonic external potential applied and the dispersion versus the nonlinearity. In the double-component case, it includes all possible different combinations between the dispersion and nonlinearity involving intra- and inter-interactions. This result shows that the nonautonomous soliton has the same physical origin as the canonical one, which clarifies the nature of the nonautonomous soliton. Finally, we also discuss the dynamics of two-component BEC by controlling the relevant experimental parameters.

Transformation from the nonautonomous to standard NLS equations

In this paper we show a systematical method to obtain exact solutions of the nonautonomous nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation. An integrable condition is first obtained by the Painlevè analysis, which is shown to be consistent with that obtained by the Lax pair method. Under this condition, we present a general transformation, which can directly convert all allowed exact solutions of the standard NLS equation into the corresponding exact solutions of the nonautonomous NLS equation. The method is quite powerful since the standard NLS equation has been well studied in the past decades and its exact solutions are vast in the literature. The result provides an effective way to control the soliton dynamics. Finally, the fundamental bright and dark solitons are taken as examples to demonstrate its explicit applications.

Decoherence suppression of a dissipative qubit by the non-Markovian effect

We evaluate exactly the non-Markovian effect on the decoherence dynamics of a qubit interacting with a dissipative vacuum reservoir and find that the coherence of the qubit can be partially trapped in the steady state when the memory effect of the reservoir is considered. Our analysis shows that it is the formation of a bound state between the qubit and its reservoir that results in this residual coherence in the steady state under the non-Markovian dynamics. A physical condition for the decoherence suppression is given explicitly. Our results suggest a potential way to decoherence control by modifying the system-reservoir interaction and the spectrum of the reservoir to the non-Markovian regime in the scenario of reservoir engineering.

Mechanism of entanglement preservation

We study the entanglement preservation of two qubits locally interacting with their reservoirs. We show that the existence of a bound state of the qubit and its reservoir and the non-Markovian effect are two essential ingredients and their interplay plays a crucial role in preserving the entanglement in the steady state. When the non-Markovian effect is neglected, the entanglement sudden death (ESD) is reproduced. On the other hand, when the non-Markovian is significantly strong but the bound state is absent, the phenomenon of the ESD and its revival is recovered. Our formulation presents a unified picture about the entanglement preservation and provides a clear clue on how to preserve the entanglement in quantum information processing.

Non-Markovian effect on the geometric phase of a dissipative qubit

We study the geometric phase of a two-level atom coupled to an environment with Lorentzian spectral density. The non-Markovian effect on the geometric phase is explored analytically and numerically. In the weak coupling limit the lowest-order correction to the geometric phase is derived analytically and the general case is calculated numerically. It is found that the correction to the geometric phase is significantly large if the spectral width is small and in this case the non-Markovian dynamics has a significant impact to the geometric phase. When the spectral width increases, the correction to the geometric phase becomes negligible, which shows the robustness of the geometric phase to the environmental white noises. The result is significant to the quantum information processing based on the geometric phase.

Engineering the Kondo and Fano effects in double quantum dots

We demonstrate delicate control over the Kondo effect and its interplay with quantum interference in an Aharonov-Bohm interferometer containing one Kondo dot and one noninteracting dot. It is shown that the Kondo resonance undergoes a dramatic evolution as the interdot tunnel coupling progressively increases. A novel triple Kondo splitting occurs from the interference between constant and Lorentzian conduction bands that cooperate in forming the Kondo singlet. The device also manifests a highly controllable Fano-Kondo effect in coherent electronic transport, and can be tuned to a regime where the coupled dots behave as decoupled dots.

Kondo effect in carbon nanotube quantum dots with spin-orbit coupling

Motivated by recent experimental observation of spin-orbit coupling in carbon nanotube quantum dots [F. Kuemmeth \textsl{et al.}, Nature (London) {\bf 452}, 448 (2008)], we investigate in detail its influence on the Kondo effect. The spin-orbit coupling intrinsically lifts out the fourfold degeneracy of a single electron in the dot, thereby breaking the SU(4) symmetry and splitting the Kondo resonance even at zero magnetic field. When the field is applied, the Kondo resonance further splits and exhibits fine multipeak structures resulting from the interplay of spin-orbit coupling and Zeeman effect. A microscopic cotunneling process for each peak can be uniquely identified. Finally, a purely orbital Kondo effect in the two-electron regime is also obtained.

Dynamics and modulation of ring dark soliton in 2D Bose-Einstein condensates with tunable interaction

We investigate the dynamics and modulation of ring dark soliton in 2D Bose-Einstein condensates with tunable interaction both analytically and numerically. The analytic solutions of ring dark soliton are derived by using a new transformation method. For shallow ring dark soliton, it is stable when the ring is slightly distorted, while for large deformation of the ring, vortex pairs appear and they demonstrate novel dynamical behaviors: the vortex pairs will transform into dark lumplike solitons and revert to ring dark soliton periodically. Moreover, our results show that the dynamical evolution of the ring dark soliton can be dramatically affected by Feshbach resonance, and the lifetime of the ring dark soliton can be largely extended which offers a useful method for observing the ring dark soliton in future experiments.

Dissipative solitons stabilized by a quantum Zeno-like effect

An unstable particle in quantum mechanics can be stabilized by frequent measurements, known as the quantum Zeno effect. A soliton with dissipation behaves like an unstable particle. Similar to the quantum Zeno effect, here we show that the soliton can be stabilized by modulating periodically dispersion, nonlinearity, or the external harmonic potential available in BEC. This can be obtained by analyzing a Painleve integrability condition, which results from the rigorous Painleve analysis of the generalized nonautonomous nonlinear Schrodinger equation. The result has a profound implication to the optical soliton transmission and the matter-wave soliton dynamics.

Integrability of the Gross-Pitaevskii Equation with Feshbach Resonance management

In this paper we study the integrability of a class of Gross-Pitaevskii equations managed by Feshbach resonance in an expulsive parabolic external potential. By using WTC test, we find a condition under which the Gross-Pitaevskii equation is completely integrable. Under the present model, this integrability condition is completely consistent with that proposed by Serkin, Hasegawa, and Belyaeva [V. N. Serkin et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 98, 074102 (2007)]. Furthermore, this integrability can also be explicitly shown by a transformation, which can convert the Gross-Pitaevskii equation into the well-known standard nonlinear Schrödinger equation. By this transformation, each exact solution of the standard nonlinear Schrödinger equation can be converted into that of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation, which builds a systematical connection between the canonical solitons and the so-called nonautonomous ones. The finding of this transformation has a significant contribution to understanding the essential properties of the nonautonomous solitions and the dynamics of the Bose-Einstein condensates by using the Feshbach resonance technique.

Entanglement dynamics of qubits in a common environment

We use the quantum jump approach to study the entanglement dynamics of a quantum register, which is composed of two or three dipole-dipole coupled two-level atoms, interacting with a common environment. Our investigation of entanglement dynamics reflects that the environment has dual actions on the entanglement of the qubits in the model. While the environment destroys the entanglement induced by the coherent dipole-dipole interactions, it can produce stable entanglement between the qubits prepared initially in a separable state. The analysis shows that it is the entangled decoherence-free states contained as components in the initial state that contribute to the stable entanglement. Our study indicates how the environmental noise produces the entanglement and exposes the interplay of environmental noise and coherent interactions of qubits on the entanglement.

Entanglement production and decoherence-free subspace of two single-mode cavities embedded in a common environment

A system consisting of two identical single-mode cavities coupled to a common environment is investigated within the framework of algebraic dynamics. Based on the left and right representations of the Heisenberg-Weyl algebra, the algebraic structure of the master equation is explored and exact analytical solutions of this system are obtained. It is shown that for such a system, the environment can produce entanglement in contrast to its commonly believed role of destroying entanglement. In addition, the collective zero-mode eigen solutions of the system are found to be free of decoherence against the dissipation of the environment. These decoherence-free states may be useful in quantum information and quantum computation.

Production of squeezed state of single mode cavity field by the coupling of squeezed vacuum field reservoir in nonautonomous case

The dissipative and decoherence properties as well as the asymptotic behavior of the single mode electromagnetic field interacting with the time-dependent squeezed vacuum field reservoir are investigated in detail by using the algebraic dynamical method. With the help of the left and right representations of the relevant $hw(4)$ algebra, the dynamical symmetry of the nonautonomous master equation of the system is found to be $su(1,1)$. The unique equilibrium steady solution is found to be the squeezed state and any initial state of the system is proved to approach the unique squeezed state asymptotically. Thus the squeezed vacuum field reservoir is found to play the role of a squeezing mold of the cavity field.

Dynamical symmetry and analytical solutions of the non-autonomous quantum master equation of the dissipative two-level system: decoherence of quantum register

Based on the non-autonomous quantum master equation, we investigate the dissipative and decoherence properties of the two-level atom system interacting with the environment of thermal quantum radiation fields. For this system, by a novel algebraic dynamic method, the dynamical symmetry of the system is found, the quantum master equation is converted into a Schrödinger-like equation and the non-Hermitian rate (quantum Liouville) operator of the master equation is expressed as a linear function of the dynamical u(2) generators. Furthermore, the integrability of the non-autonomous master equation has been proved for the first time. Based on the time-dependent analytical solutions, the asymptotic behavior of the solution has been examined and the approach to the equilibrium state has been proved. Finally, we have studied the decoherence property of the multiple two-level atom system coupled to the thermal radiation fields, which are related to the quantum register.

A two-level atom coupled to a controllable squeezed vacuum field reservoir

The dissipative and decoherence properties of the two-level atom interacting with the squeezed vacuum field reservoir are investigated based on the nonautonomous master equation of the atomic density matrix in the framework of algebraic dynamics. The nonautonomous master equation is converted into a Schrödinger-like equations and its dynamical symmetry is found based on the left and right representations of the relevant algebra. The time-dependent solution and the steady solution are obtained analytically. The asymptotic behavior of the solution is examined and the approach to the equilibrium state is proved. Based on the analytic solution the response of the system to the squeezed vacuum field reservoir is studied numerically.

Damping of Collective Nuclear Motion and Thermodynamic Properties of Nuclei beyond Mean Field

The dynamical description of correlated nuclear motion is based on a set of coupled equations of motion for the one-body density matrix $ρ(11';t)$ and the two-body correlation function $c_2(12,1'2';t)$, which is obtained from the density-matrix hierarchy beyond conventional mean-field approaches by truncating 3-body correlations. The resulting equations nonperturbatively describe particle-particle collisions (short-range correlations) as well as particle-hole interactions (long-range correlations). Within a basis of time-dependent Hartree-Fock states these equations of motion are solved for collective vibrations of $^{40}Ca$ at several finite thermal excitation energies corresponding to temperatures $T=0-6$ MeV. Transport coefficients for friction and diffusion are extracted from the explicit solutions in comparison to the solutions of the associated TDHF, VUU, Vlasov or damped quantum oscillator equations of motion. We find that the actual magnitude of the transport coefficients is strongly influenced by partlicle-hole correlations at low temperature which generate large fluctuations in the nuclear shape degrees of freedom. Thermodynamically, the specific heat and the entropy of the system as a function of temperature does not differ much from the mean-field limit except for a bump in the specific heat around $T\simeq 4$ MeV which we attribute to the melting of shell effects in the correlated system.

Equation of motion approach to the solution of Anderson model

Based on an equation of motion approach the single impurity Anderson model(SIAM) is reexamined. Using the cluster expansions the equations of motion of Green functions are transformed into the corresponding equations of motion of connected Green functions, which provides a natural and uniform truncation scheme. A factor of two missing in the Lacroix's approximation for the Kondo temperature is gained in the next higher order truncation beyond Lacroix's. A quantitative improvement in the density of states at the Fermi level is also obtained.
