$SL(2,R)$ symmetry and quasi-normal modes in the BTZ black hole

With the help of two new intrinsic tensor fields associated with the $SL(2,R)$ quadratic Casimir of Killing fields, we uncover the $SL(2,R)$ symmetry satisfied by the solutions to the equations of motion for various fields in the BTZ black hole in a uniform way by performing tensor and spinor analysis without resorting to any specific coordinate system. Then with the standard algebraic method developed recently, we determine the quasi-normal modes for various fields in the BTZ black hole. As a result, the quasi-normal modes are given by the infinite tower of descendants of the chiral highest weight mode, which is in good agreement with the previous analytic result obtained by exactly solving equations of motion instead.

Consistency Conditions on S-Matrix of Spin 1 Massless Particles

Motivated by new techniques in the computation of scattering amplitudes of massless particles in four dimensions, like BCFW recursion relations, the question of how much structure of the S-matrix can be determined from purely S-matrix arguments has received new attention. The BCFW recursion relations for massless particles of spin 1 and 2 imply that the whole tree-level S-matrix can be determined in terms of three-particle amplitudes (evaluated at complex momenta). However, the known proofs of the validity of the relations rely on the Lagrangian of the theory, either by using Feynman diagrams explicitly or by studying the effective theory at large complex momenta. This means that a purely S-matrix theoretic proof of the relations is still missing. The aim of this paper is to provide such a proof for spin 1 particles by extending the four-particle test introduced by P. Benincasa and F. Cachazo in arXiv:0705.4305[hep-th] to all particles. We show how n-particle tests imply that the rational function built from the BCFW recursion relations possesses all the correct factorization channels including holomorphic and anti-holomorphic collinear limits. This in turn implies that they give the correct S-matrix of the theory.

Refractive index in holographic superconductors

With the probe limit, we investigate the behavior of the electric permittivity and effective magnetic permeability and related optical properties in the s-wave holographic superconductors. In particular, our result shows that unlike the strong coupled systems which admit a gravity dual of charged black holes in the bulk, the electric permittivity and effective magnetic permeability are unable to conspire to bring about the negative Depine-Lakhtakia index at low frequencies, which implies that the negative phase velocity does not appear in the holographic superconductors under such a situation.

Note on the non-adjacent BCFW deformations

As the first part, we provide a proof of the consistency condition by Kleiss-Kuijf relation and the bonus relation by BCJ relation for the non-adjacent BCFW deformations. On the other hand, rather than appealing to field theory argument, we provide an alternative proof of bonus relation for the non-adjacent BCFW deformations by a purely S matrix analysis in the context of $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM theory.

On thermal force from holographic action

Applying the relation between Euclidean on-shell action in the bulk and free energy on the holographic screen to a test charged particle in the charged R-N black hole, we show that not only gravity but also electromagnetic force can be regarded as a sort of thermal force, which accomplishes the unification of gravity and electromagnetism to some extent. In addition, taking into account the fact that both the temperature and thermal force of the dual system are measured at infinity, we argue that the dual holographic screen may be located at infinity.

Time drift of subtended angles as a new cosmological probe

We here propose the time drift of subtended angles as a new possible cosmological probe. In particular, with the coming era of microarcsecond astrometry, our proposal can be used to measure the Hubble expansion rate of our universe in a direct way.

Helicity Entanglement of Moving Bodies

We investigate the Lorentz transformation of the reduced helicity density matrix for a pair of massive spin 1/2 particles. The corresponding Wootters concurrence shows no invariant meaning, which implies that we can generate helicity entanglement simply by the transformation from one reference frame to another. The difference between the helicity and spin case is also discussed.

Can the Copernican principle be tested by cosmic neutrino background?

The Copernican principle, stating that we do not occupy any special place in our universe, is usually taken for granted in modern cosmology. However recent observational data of supernova indicate that we may live in the under-dense center of our universe, which makes the Copernican principle challenged. It thus becomes urgent and important to test the Copernican principle via cosmological observations. Taking into account that unlike the cosmic photons, the cosmic neutrinos of different energies come from the different places to us along the different worldlines, we here propose cosmic neutrino background as a test of the Copernican principle. It is shown that from the theoretical perspective cosmic neutrino background can allow one to determine whether the Copernican principle is valid or not, but to implement such an observation the larger neutrino detectors are called for.

Covariant entropy conjecture and concordance cosmological models

Recently a covariant entropy conjecture has been proposed for dynamical horizons. We apply this conjecture to concordance cosmological models, namely, those cosmological models filled with perfect fluids, in the presence of a positive cosmological constant. As a result, we find this conjecture has a severe constraint power. Not only does this conjecture rule out those cosmological models disfavored by the anthropic principle, but also it imposes an upper bound $10^{-60}$ on the cosmological constant for our own universe, which thus provides an alternative macroscopic perspective for understanding the long-standing cosmological constant problem.

Note on the thermal history of decoupled massive particles

This note provides an alternative approach to the momentum decay and thermal evolution of decoupled massive particles. Although the ingredients in our results have been addressed in Ref.\cite{Weinberg}, the strategies employed here are simpler, and the results obtained here are more general.

A covariant entropy bound conjecture on the dynamical horizon

As a compelling pattern for the holographic principle, our covariant entropy bound conjecture is proposed for more general dynamical horizons. Then we apply our conjecture to $Λ$CDM cosmological models, where we find it imposes a novel upper bound $10^{-90}$ on the cosmological constant for our own universe by taking into account the dominant entropy contribution from super-massive black holes, which thus provides an alternative macroscopic perspective to understand the longstanding cosmological constant problem. As an intriguing implication of this conjecture, we also discuss the possible profound relation between the present cosmological constant, the origin of mass, and the anthropic principle.

Entanglement Entropy: Helicity versus Spin

For a massive spin 1/2 field, we present the reduced spin and helicity density matrix, respectively, for the same pure one particle state. Their relation has also been developed. Furthermore, we calculate and compare the corresponding entanglement entropy for spin and helicity within the same inertial reference frame. Due to the distinct dependence on momentum degree of freedom between spin and helicity states, the resultant helicity entropy is different from that of spin in general. In particular, we find that both helicity entanglement for a spin eigenstate and spin entanglement for a right handed or left handed helicity state do not vanish and their Von Neumann entropy has no dependence on the specific form of momentum distribution as long as it is isotropic.

Exploring holographic dark energy model with Sandage-Loeb test

Taking into account that Sandage-Loeb test is unique in its coverage of the redshift desert and available in the near future, we explore the cosmic time evolution behavior of the source redshift for holographic dark energy model, an important competing cosmological model. As a result, we find that Sandage-Loeb test can provide a extremely strong bound on $Ω^0_m$, while its constraint on another dimensionless parameter $λ$ is weak. In addition, it is proposed here for the first time that we can also constrain various cosmological model by measuring the value of $z_{max}$ at which the peak of redshift velocity occurs. Combining this new proposed method with the traditional Sandage-Loeb test, we should be able to provide a better constraint on $λ$, at least from the theoretical perspective.

A covariant entropy conjecture on cosmological dynamical horizon

We here propose a covariant entropy conjecture on cosmological dynamical horizon. After the formulation of our conjecture, we test its validity in adiabatically expanding universes with open, flat and closed spatial geometry, where our conjecture can also be viewed as a cosmological version of the generalized second law of thermodynamics in some sense.

Quantum Helicity Entropy of Moving Bodies

Lorentz transformation of the reduced helicity density matrix for a massive spin 1/2 particle is investigated in the framework of relativistic quantum information theory for the first time. The corresponding helicity entropy is calculated, which shows no invariant meaning as that of spin. The variation of the helicity entropy with the relative speed of motion of inertial observers, however, differs significantly from that of spin due to their distinct transformation behaviors under the action of Lorentz group. This novel and odd behavior unique to the helicity may be readily detected by high energy physics experiments. The underlying physical explanations are also discussed.

Quantum Entanglement of Electromagnetic Fields in Non-inertial Reference Frames

Recently relativistic quantum information has received considerable attention due to its theoretical importance and practical application. Especially, quantum entanglement in non-inertial reference frames has been studied for scalar and Dirac fields. As a further step along this line, we here shall investigate quantum entanglement of electromagnetic fields in non-inertial reference frames. In particular, the entanglement of photon helicity entangled state is extensively analyzed. Interestingly, the resultant logarithmic negativity and mutual information remain the same as those for inertial reference frames, which is completely different from that previously obtained for the particle number entangled state.

The Casimir effect for a massless spin-3/2 field in Minkowski spacetime

The Casimir effect has been studied for various quantum fields in both flat and curved spacetimes. As a further step along this line, we provide an explicit derivation of Casimir effect for massless spin-3/2 field with periodic boundary condition imposed in four-dimensional Minkowski spacetime. The corresponding results with Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions are also discussed.
