On Hirano inverses in rings

We introduce and study a new class of Drazin inverses. An element $a$ in a ring $R$ has Drazin inverse $b$ if $a^2-ab\in N(R)$, $ab=ba$ and $b=bab$. Every Hirano inverse of an element is its Drazin inverse. We drive several characterization for this generalized inverse.

Generalized Hirano inverses in rings

We introduce and study a new class of generalized inverse in rings. An element $a$ in a ring $R$ has generalized Hirano inverse if there exists some $b\in R$ such that $bab=b, b\in comm^2(a), a^2-ab \in R^{qnil}$

On Zhou nil-clean rings

A ring R is a Zhou nil-clean ring if every element in R is the sum of two tripotents and a nilpotent that commute. In this paper, Zhou nil-clean rings are further discussed with an emphasis on their relations with polynomials, idempotents and 2- idempotents. any a \in R, there exists e 2 Z[a] such that a-e \in R is nilpotent and e^5 = 5e^3 -4e, if and only if for any a 2 R, there exist idempotents e; f; g; h 2 Z[a] and a nilpotent w such that a = e+f +g+h+w, if and only if for any a 2 R, there exist 2-idempotents e; f 2 Z[a] and a nilpotent w 2 R such that a = e + f + w, if and only if for any a 2 R, there exists a 2-idempotent e 2 Z[a] and a nilpotent w 2 R such that a^2 = e+w, if and only if R is a Kosan exchange ring.

On Yaqub nil-clean ring

A ring R is Yaqub nil-clean if for any a\in R, a-a^3 or a+a^3 is nilpotent for all a\in R. We prove that a ring R is Yaqub nil-clean if and only if for any a\in R, there exists some e^3=e\in R, such that a-e or a+3e is nilpotent and ae=ea.

Matrices over Zhou nil-clean rings

A ring R is Zhou nil-clean if every element in R is the sum of two tripotents and a nilpotent that commute. Let R be a Zhou nil-clean ring. If R is 2-primal (of bounded index), we prove that every square matrix over R is the sum of two tripotents and a nilpotent. These provides a large class of rings over which every square matrix has such decompositions by tripotent and nilpotent matrices.

Periodicity and J-Clean-like Rings

A ring $R$ is periodic provided that for any $a\ in R$ there exist distinct elements $m,n \in {\Bbb N}$ such that $a^m=a^n$. We shall prove that periodicity is inherited by a type of generalized matrix rings. We define strongly periodic rings and determine completely the connections between these ones and periodic rings. Moreover, we characterize J-clean like rings and obtain the relations among these rings.

Elementary matrix reduction over Bezout duo rings

A ring $R$ is an elementary divisor ring if every matrix over $R$ admits a diagonal reduction. We further explore various stable like conditions on a bezout duo-domain under which it is an elementary divisor domain. Many known results are thereby generalized to much wider class of rings.

The strong $P$-cleanness over rings

An element of a ring $R$ is strongly $P$-clean provided that it can be written as the sum of an idempotent and a strongly nilpotent element that commute. A ring $R$ is strongly $P$-clean in case each of its elements is strongly $P$-clean. We investigate, in this article, the necessary and sufficient conditions under which a ring $R$ is strongly $P$-clean. Many characterizations of such rings are obtained. The criteria on strong $P$-cleanness of $2\times 2$ matrices over commutative local rings are also determined.

Elementary matrix reduction over locally stable rings

A commutative ring R is locally stable provided that for any $a,b\in R$ such that $aR+bR=R$, there exist some $y\in R$ such that $R/(a+by)R$ has stable range 1.For a Bezout ring $R$, we prove that $R$ is an elementary divisor ring if and only if $R$ is locally stable if and only if $R$ has neat range 1.

Elementary Matrix Reduction Over Certain Rings

We explore elementary matrix reduction over certain rings characterized by their localizations. Let $R$ be a locally stable ring, we prove that $R$ is an elementary divisor ring if and only if $R$ is a Bezout ring. Elementary matrix reduction over some related localizations are also studied. Many known results on domains are thereby extended to general commutative rings which may contain many zero divisors.

Elementary Matrix Reduction Over J-Stable Rings

A commutative ring $R$ is J-stable provided that for any $a\not\in J(R)$, $R/aR$ has stable range one. A ring $R$ is called an elementary divisor ring if every $m\times n$ matrix over $R$ admits diagonal reduction. We prove that a J-stabe ring $R$ is an elementary divisor ring if and only if it is a Bezout ring.

Rings involving idempotents, units and nilpotent elements

We define the concepts of weakly precious and precious rings which generalize the notions of weakly clean and nil-clean rings. We obtain some fundamental properties of these rings. We also obtain certain subclasses of such rings and then offer new kinds of weakly clean rings and nil-clean rings.

Extensions of square stable range one

An ideal $I$ of a ring $R$ is square stable if $aR+bR=R$ with $a\in I$ and $b\in R$ implies that $a^2+by$ is invertible in $I$ for some $y\in I$. We prove that an exchange ideal $I$ of a ring $R$ is square stable if and only if for any $a\in I$, $a^2\ in J(R)$ implies that $a\in J(R)$, if and only if every regular element in $I$ is strongly regular.

Separative exchange rings in which 2 is invertible

An exchange ring $R$ is separative provided that for all finitely generated projective right $R$-modules $A$ and $B$, $A\oplus A\cong A\oplus B\cong B\oplus B\Longrightarrow A\cong B$. Let $R$ be a separative exchange ring in which $2$ is invertible, and let $a-a^3\in R$ be regular. We prove, in this note, that $a\in R$ is unit-regular if $R(1-a^2)R=Rr(a)={\ell}(a)$. An element $a$ in a ring $R$ is special clean if there exists an idempotent $e\in R$ such that $a-e\in R$ is a unit and $aR\bigcap eR=0$. Furthermore, we prove that $a\in R$ is special clean if $aR/ar(a^2), R/\big(aR+r(a)\big)$ are projective, and $R(a-a^3)R=Rar(a^2)=\ell (a^2)aR$. These also extend the corresponding results in separative regular rings.

Internal Cancellation over SSP Rings

A ring is SSP if the sum of two direct summands is a direct summand. A ring has internal cancellation if every its (von Neumann) regular elements are unit-regular. We show that in an SSP ring having internal cancellation, any regular element is special clean. Our main results also imply that for any SSP ring internal cancellation and idempotent stable range $1$ coincide with each other. Internal cancellation over SSP was then characterized by special clean elements.

Matrix nil-clean factorizations over abelian rings

A ring $R$ is nil-clean if every element in $R$ is the sum of an idempotent and a nilpotent. A ring $R$ is abelian if every idempotent is central. We prove that if $R$ is abelian then $M_n(R)$ is nil-clean if and only if $R/J(R)$ is Boolean and $M_n(J(R))$ is nil. This extend the main results of Breaz et al. ~\cite{BGDT} and that of Koşan et al.~\cite{KLZ}.

On uniquely $π$-clean rings

An element of a ring is unique clean if it can be uniquely written as the sum of an idempotent and a unit. A ring $R$ is uniquely $π$-clean if some power of every element in $R$ is uniquely clean. In this article, we prove that a ring $R$ is uniquely $π$-clean if and only if for any $a\in R$, there exists an $m\in {\Bbb N}$ and a central idempotent $e\in R$ such that $a^m-e\in J(R)$, if and only if $R$ is abelian; every idempotent lifts modulo $J(R)$; and $R/P$ is torsion for all prime ideals $P$ containing the Jacobson radical $J(R)$. Further, we prove that a ring $R$ is uniquely $π$-clean and $J(R)$ is nil if and only if $R$ is an abelian periodic ring, if and only if for any $a\in R$, there exists some $m\in {\Bbb N}$ and a unique idempotent $e\in R$ such that $a^m-e\in P(R)$, where $P(R)$ is the prime radical of $R$.

Strongly Nil-*-Clean Rings

A *-ring $R$ is called a strongly nil-*-clean ring if every element of $R$ is the sum of a projection and a nilpotent element that commute with each other. In this article, we show that $R$ is a strongly nil-*-clean ring if and only if every idempotent in $R$ is a projection, $R$ is periodic, and $R/J(R)$ is Boolean. For any commutative *-ring $R$, we prove that the algebraic extension $R[i]$ where $i^2=μi+η$ for some $μ,η\in R$ is strongly nil-*-clean if and only if $R$ is strongly nil-*-clean and $μη$ is nilpotent. The relationships between Boolean *-rings and strongly nil-*-clean rings are also obtained.
