Static-Fluid Black Holes

We investigate black holes formed by static perfect fluid with $p=-ρ/3$. These represent the black holes in $S_3$ and $H_3$ spatial geometries. There are three classes of black-hole solutions, two $S_3$ types and one $H_3$ type. The interesting solution is the one of $S_3$ type which possesses two singularities. The one is at the north pole behind the horizon, and the other is naked at the south pole. The observers, however, are free from falling to the naked singularity. There are also nonstatic cosmological solutions in $S_3$ and $H_3$, and a singular static solution in $H_3$.

The M-sigma Relation of Super Massive Black Holes from the Scalar Field Dark Matter

We explain the M-sigma relation between the mass of super massive black holes in galaxies and the velocity dispersions of their bulges in the scalar field or the Bose-Einstein condensate dark matter model. The gravity of the central black holes changes boundary conditions of the scalar field at the galactic centers. Owing to the wave nature of the dark matter this significantly changes the galactic halo profiles even though the black holes are much lighter than the bulges. As a result the heavier the black holes are, the more compact the bulges are, and hence the larger the velocity dispersions are. This tendency is verified by a numerical study. The M-sigma relation is well reproduced with the dark matter particle mass $m\simeq 5\times 10^{-22} eV$.

Gravity as Quantum Entanglement Force

We conjecture that the total quantum entanglement of matter and vacuum in the universe tends to increase with time, like entropy, and that an effective force is associated with this tendency. We also suggest that gravity and dark energy are types of quantum entanglement forces, similar to Verlinde's entropic force, and give holographic dark energy with an equation of state comparable to current observational data. This connection between quantum entanglement and gravity could give some new insights into the origins of gravity, dark energy, and the arrow of time.

Inflationary Tensor Perturbation in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity

We investigate the tensor perturbation in the inflation model driven by a massive-scalar field in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity. For short wave-length modes, the perturbation feature is very similar to that of the usual chaotic inflation. For long wave-length modes, the perturbation exhibits a peculiar rise in the power spectrum which may leave a signature in the cosmic microwave background radiation.

Physics at the surface of a star in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity

We study phenomena happening at the surface of a star in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld (EiBI) gravity. The star is made of particles, which are effectively described by a polytropic fluid. The EiBI theory was known to have a pathology that singularities happen at a star surface. We suggest that the gravitational back-reaction on the particles cures the problem. Strong tidal forces near the (surface) singularity modify the effective equation of state of the particles or make the surface be unstable depending on its matter contents. The geodesic deviation equations take after the Hooke's law, where its frequency-squared is proportional to the scalar curvature at the surface. For a positive curvature, a particle collides with a probing wall more often and increases the pressure. With the increased pressure, the surface is no longer singular. For a negative curvature, the matters around the surface experience repulsions with infinite accelerations. Therefore, the EiBI gravity is saved from the pathology of surface singularity.

Origin of the universe: A hint from Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity

We study the `initial state' of an anisotropic universe in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity filled with a scalar field, whose potential has various forms. With this purpose, the evolution of a spatially-flat, homogeneous anisotropic Kasner universe is studied. We find an exact evolution of universe for each scalar potential by imposing a maximal pressure condition. The solution is shown to describe the initial state of the universe. The state is regular if the scalar potential increases not faster than the quadratic power for large field values. We also show that the anisotropy does not raise any defect in early universe contrary to the case of general relativity.

Precursor of Inflation

We investigate a nonsingular initial state of the Universe which leads to inflation naturally. The model is described by a scalar field with a quadratic potential in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity. The curvature of this initial state is given by the mass scale of the scalar field which is much smaller than the Planck scale. Therefore, in this model, quantum gravity is not necessary in understanding this pre-inflationary stage, no matter how large the energy density becomes. The initial state in this model evolves eventually to a long inflationary period which is similar to the usual chaotic inflation.

Gravity from Quantum Information

It is suggested that the Einstein equation can be derived from Landauer's principle applied to an information erasing process at a local Rindler horizon and Jacobson's idea linking the Einstein equation with thermodynamics. When matter crosses the horizon, the information of the matter disappears and the horizon entanglement entropy increases to compensate the entropy reduction. The Einstein equation describes an information-energy relation during this process, which implies that entropic gravity is related to the quantum entanglement of the vacuum and has a quantum information theoretic origin.

A new variable in scalar cosmology with exponential potential

We present a new way describing the solution of the Einstein-scalar field theory with exponential potential $V\propto e^{\sqrt{6}βϕ/M_{Pl}}$ in spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker space-time. We introduced a new time variable, $L$, which may vary in $[-1,1]$. The new time represents the state of the universe clearly because the equation of state at a given time takes the simple form, $w= -1+ 2L^2$. The universe will inflate when $|L|<1/\sqrt{3}$. For $β\leq 1$, the universe ends with its evolution at $L=β$. This implies that the equation of state at the end of the universe is nothing but $w=-1+2β^2$. For $β\geq 1$, the universe ends at L=1, where the equation of state of the universe is one. On the other hand, the universe always begins with $w=1$ at $L=\pm 1$.

Inflation as an attractor in scalar cosmology

We study an inflation mechanism based on attractor properties in cosmological evolutions of a spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime based on the Einstein-scalar field theory. We find a new way to get the Hamilton-Jacobi equation solving the field equations. The equation relates a solution `generating function' with the scalar potential. We analyze its stability and find a later time attractor which describes a Universe approaching to an eternal-de Sitter inflation driven by the potential energy, $V_0>0$. The attractor exists when the potential is regular and does not have a linear and quadratic terms of the field. When the potential has a mass term, the attractor exists if the scalar field is in a symmetric phase and is weakly coupled, $λ<9V_0/16$. We also find that the attractor property is intact under small modifications of the potential. If the scalar field has a positive mass-squared or is strongly coupled, there exists a quasi-attractor. However, the quasi-attractor property disappears if the potential is modified. On the whole, the appearance of the eternal inflation is not rare in scalar cosmology in the presence of an attractor.

A new synthesis of matter and gravity: A nongravitating scalar field

We present a new manifestation of the nonlinearity of the gravity-matter interactions. We show explicitly that there exists a nongravitating dynamical scalar-field solution in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity. This kind of solution has not been found in previous literatures based on general relativity, or other modified-gravity theories. The nongravitating solution obtained in this work is unstable to perturbations.

Revisiting the spectrum of a scalar field in an anisotropic universe

We revisit the issue on signatures of pre-inflationary background anisotropy by considering the quantization of a massless and minimally coupled scalar field in an axially symmetric Kasner background, mimicking cosmological perturbations. We show that the power spectrum of the scalar field fluctuation has a negligible difference from the standard inflation in the non-planar directions, but it has a sharp peak around the symmetry plane. For the non-planar high-momentum modes, we use the WKB approximation for the first period and the asymptotic approximation based on the de Sitter solution for the next period. At the boundary, two mode functions have the same accuracy with error of $O({H_{i}}/k)$. We calculate the approximation up to the order of $({H_{i}}/k)^6$ and show that the power spectrum of the scalar field fails to get corrections until we execute the approximation up to $6^{\rm th}$ order.

Causality Problem in a Holographic Dark Energy Model

In the model of holographic dark energy, there is a notorious problem of circular reasoning between the introduction of future event horizon and the accelerating expansion of the universe. We examine the problem after dividing into two parts, the causality problem of the equation of motion and the circular logic on the use of the future event horizon. We specify and isolate the root of the problem from causal equation of motion as a boundary condition, which can be determined from the initial data of the universe. We show that there is no violation of causality if it is defined appropriately and the circular logic problem can be reduced to an initial value problem.

Universe Driven by Perfect Fluid in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld Gravity

We investigate the evolution of the Universe filled with barotropic perfect fluid in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity. We consider both the isotropic and the anisotropic universe. At the early stage when the energy density is high, the evolution is modified considerably compared with that in general relativity. For the equation-of-state parameter $w>0$, the initial singularity is not accompanied as it was discovered for radiation in earlier work. More interestingly, for pressureless dust ($w=0$), the initial state approaches a de Sitter state. This fact opens a new possibility of singularity-free nature of the theory. The anisotropy is mild, and does not develop curvature singularities in spacetime contrary to general relativity.

Evolution of cosmological event horizons in anisotropic universes

We study the evolution of cosmological event horizons in anisotropic Kasner universes in the presence of a positive cosmological constant by analyzing null geodesics. At later times, the asymptotic form of cosmological horizons is the same spherical surface as the de Sitter horizon. At the early times, however, it has non-spherical shape with its eccentricity decreases with time. The horizon area increases with time respecting the second law of thermodynamics. The initial shape of the cosmological horizon takes the form of a needle or pancake surface depending on the nature of the background spacetimes. We also discuss that the presence of the holographic dark energy will modify significantly the initial evolution of the anisotropic universes.

String or branelike solutions in four-dimensional Einstein gravity in the presence of cosmological constant

We investigate string or branelike solutions for four-dimensional vacuum Einstein equations in the presence of cosmological constant. For the case of negative cosmological constant, the Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli black string is the only warped stringlike solution. The general solutions for nonwarped branelike configurations are found and they are characterized by the Arnowitt-Deser-Misner mass density and two tensions. Interestingly, the sum of these tensions is equal to the minus of the mass density. Other than the well-known black string and soliton spacetimes, all the static solutions possess naked singularities. The time-dependent solutions can be regarded as the anti-de Sitter extension of the well-known Kasner solutions. The speciality of those static regular solutions and the implication of singular solutions are also discussed in the context of cylindrical matter collapse. For the case of positive cosmological constant, the Kasner-de Sitter spacetime appears as time-dependent solutions and all static solutions are found to be naked singular.

An analytic approach to perturbations from an initially anisotropic universe

We present the analytic forms for the spectra of the cosmological perturbations from an initially anisotropic universe for the high momentum modes in the context of WKB approximations, as the continuation of the work [29]. We consider the Einstein gravity coupled to a light scalar field. We then assume that the scalar field has the zero velocity initially and then slowly rolls down on the potential toward the origin. In the slow-roll approximations, the Kasner-de Sitter universe with a planar symmetry is a good approximation as the background evolution. Quantization of the perturbations in the adiabatic vacuum, which we call the anisotropic vacuum, is carried out. For non-planar high momentum modes whose comoving momentum component orthogonal to the plane is bigger than the Hubble parameter at the inflationary phase, the WKB approximation is valid for the whole stage of the isotropization. On the other hand, the planar modes whose comoving momentum component orthogonal to the plane is comparable to the Hubble parameter, is amplified during the process of the anisotropic expansion. In the final gravitational wave spectra, we find that there is an asymmetry between the two polarizations of the gravitational wave because the initial mode mixing does not vanish.

Classification of Hypercylindrical Spacetimes with Momentum Flow

For the five-dimensional spacetimes whose four-dimensional sections are static, spherically symmetric ($SO(3)$) and flat asymptotically, we study the behavior of Arnowitt-Deser-Misner mass, tension and momentum densities characterizing such asymptotically hypercylindrical metrics under boosts along the cylindrical axis. For such stringlike metrics two boost-invariant quantities are found, which are a sort of "string rest mass-squared" and the sum of mass and tension densities. Analogous to the case of a moving point particle, we show that the asymptotically hypercylindrical geometries can be classified into three types depending on the value of the "string rest mass-squared", namely, "ordinary string", "null string" and "tachyonlike string" geometries. This asymptotic analysis shows that the extraordinary metrics reported recently by some of the authors belong to the tachyonlike string. Consequently, it is likely that such extraordinary solutions are the final states of tachyonic matter collapse. We also report two new vacuum solutions which belong to the null string and the tachyonlike string, respectively.
