Finite Weyl groupoids of rank three

We continue our study of Cartan schemes and their Weyl groupoids. The results in this paper provide an algorithm to determine connected simply connected Cartan schemes of rank three, where the real roots form a finite irreducible root system. The algorithm terminates: Up to equivalence there are exactly 55 such Cartan schemes, and the number of corresponding real roots varies between 6 and 37. We identify those Weyl groupoids which appear in the classification of Nichols algebras of diagonal type.

Reflection groupoids of rank two and Cluster algebras of type $A$

We extend the classification of finite Weyl groupoids of rank two. Then we generalize these Weyl groupoids to `reflection groupoids' by admitting non-integral entries of the Cartan matrices. This leads to the unexpected observation that the spectrum of the cluster algebra of type $A_{n-3}$ completely describes the set of finite reflection groupoids of rank two with $2n$ objects.

Right coideal subalgebras of the Borel part of a quantized enveloping algebra

For the Borel part of a quantized enveloping algebra we classify all right coideal subalgebras for which the intersection with the coradical is a Hopf algebra. The result is expressed in terms of characters of the subalgebras $U^+[w]$ of the quantized enveloping algebra, introduced by de Concini, Kac, and Procesi for any Weyl group element $w$. We explicitly determine all characters of $U^+[w]$ building on recent work by Yakimov on prime ideals of $U^+[w]$ which are invariant under a torus action. Right coideal subalgebras of Nichols algebras and the Duflo order on the Weyl groupoid

We study graded right coideal subalgebras of Nichols algebras of semisimple Yetter-Drinfeld modules. Assuming that the Yetter-Drinfeld module admits all reflections and the Nichols algebra is decomposable, we construct an injective order preserving and order reflecting map between morphisms of the Weyl groupoid and graded right coideal subalgebras of the Nichols algebra. Here morphisms are ordered with respect to right Duflo order and right coideal subalgebras are ordered with respect to inclusion. If the Weyl groupoid is finite, then we prove that the Nichols algebra is decomposable and the above map is bijective. In the special case of the Borel part of quantized enveloping algebras our result implies a conjecture of Kharchenko. Key words: Hopf algebra, quantum group, root system, Weyl group

The Nichols algebra of a semisimple Yetter-Drinfeld module

We study the Nichols algebra of a semisimple Yetter-Drinfeld module and introduce new invariants such as real roots. The crucial ingredient is a `reflection' in the class of such Nichols algebras. We conclude the classifications of finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras over S_3, and of finite-dimensional Nichols algebras over S_4. The revised version contains an extended introduction with references to recent applications, and a simplified definition of the Weyl groupoid of a semisimple Yetter-Drinfeld module. Drinfel'd doubles and Shapovalov determinants

The Shapovalov determinant for a class of pointed Hopf algebras is calculated, including quantized enveloping algebras, Lusztig's small quantum groups, and quantized Lie superalgebras. Our main tools are root systems, Weyl groupoids, and Lusztig type isomorphisms. We elaborate powerful novel techniques for the algebras at roots of unity, and pass to the general case using a density argument. Lusztig isomorphisms for Drinfel'd doubles of bosonizations of Nichols algebras of diagonal type

In the structure theory of quantized enveloping algebras, the algebra isomorphisms determined by Lusztig led to the first general construction of PBW bases of these algebras. Also, they have important applications to the representation theory of these and related algebras. In the present paper the Drinfel'd double for a class of graded Hopf algebras is investigated. Various quantum algebras, including multiparameter quantizations of semisimple Lie algebras and of Lie superalgebras, are covered by the given definition. For these Drinfel'd doubles Lusztig maps are defined. It is shown that these maps induce isomorphisms between doubles of Nichols algebras of diagonal type. Further, the obtained isomorphisms satisfy Coxeter type relations in a generalized sense. As an application, the Lusztig isomorphisms are used to give a characterization of Nichols algebras of diagonal type with finite arithmetic root system. Root systems and Weyl groupoids for Nichols algebras

Motivated by work of Kac and Lusztig, we define a root system and a Weyl groupoid for a large class of semisimple Yetter-Drinfeld modules over an arbitrary Hopf algebra. The obtained combinatorial structure fits perfectly into an existing framework of generalized root systems associated to a family of Cartan matrices, and provides novel insight into Nichols algebras. We demonstrate the power of our construction with new results on Nichols algebras over finite non-abelian simple groups and symmetric groups. Weyl groupoids of rank two and continued fractions

A relationship between continued fractions and Weyl groupoids of Cartan schemes of rank two is found. This allows to decide easily if a given Cartan scheme of rank two admits a finite root system. We obtain obstructions and sharp bounds for the entries of the Cartan matrices. Key words: Cartan matrix, continued fraction, Nichols algebra, Weyl groupoid

Weyl groupoids with at most three objects

We adapt the generalization of root systems of the second author and H. Yamane to the terminology of category theory. We introduce Cartan schemes, associated root systems and Weyl groupoids. After some preliminary general results, we completely classify all finite Weyl groupoids with at most three objects. The classification yields that there exist infinitely many standard, but only 9 exceptional cases. Key words: Nichols algebra, reflection, root system, Weyl groupoid

A generalization of Coxeter groups, root systems, and Matsumoto's theorem

The root systems appearing in the theory of Lie superalgebras and Nichols algebras admit a large symmetry extending properly the one coming from the Weyl group. Based on this observation we set up a general framework in which the symmetry object is a groupoid. We prove that in our context the groupoid is generated by reflections and Coxeter relations. This answers a question of Serganova. Our weak version of the exchange condition allows us to prove Matsumoto's theorem. Therefore the word problem is solved for the groupoid.

On a factorization of graded Hopf algebras using Lyndon words

We find a generalization of the restricted PBW basis for pointed Hopf algebras over abelian groups constructed by Kharchenko. We obtain a factorization of the Hilbert series for a wide class of graded Hopf algebras. These factors are parametrized by Lyndon words, and they are the Hilbert series of certain graded Hopf algebras. Key words: graded Hopf algebra, Nichols algebra, Lyndon word

Classification of arithmetic root systems

Arithmetic root systems are invariants of Nichols algebras of diagonal type with a certain finiteness property. They can also be considered as generalizations of ordinary root systems with rich structure and many new examples. On the other hand, Nichols algebras are fundamental objects in the construction of quantized enveloping algebras, in the noncommutative differential geometry of quantum groups, and in the classification of pointed Hopf algebras by the lifting method of Andruskiewitsch and Schneider. In the present paper arithmetic root systems are classified in full generality. As a byproduct many new finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras are obtained. On the Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand resolution for Kac-Moody algebras and quantized enveloping algebras

A Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand resolution for arbitrary Kac-Moody algebras and arbitrary subsets of the set of simple roots is proven. Moreover, quantum group analogs of the Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand resolution for symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras are established. For quantized enveloping algebras with fixed complex nonzero deformation parameter q exactness is proven for all q which are not a root of unity.

Classification of arithmetic root systems of rank 3

The paper purposes to contribute to the classification of pointed Hopf algebras by the method of Andruskiewitsch and Schneider. The structure of arithmetic root systems is enlightened such that their relation to ordinary root systems associated to semi-simple Lie algebras becomes more astounding. As an application all arithmetic root systems of rank 3 are determined. The result gives in particular all finite dimensional rank 3 Nichols algebras of diagonal type over a field of characteristic zero. Key Words: Weyl groupoid, Hopf algebra, Nichols algebra

Rank 2 Nichols algebras with finite arithmetic root system

The concept of arithmetic root systems is introduced. It is shown that there is a one-to-one correspondence between arithmetic root systems and Nichols algebras of diagonal type having a finite set of (restricted) Poincare'-Birkhoff-Witt generators. This has strong consequences for both objects. As an application all rank 2 Nichols algebras of diagonal type having a finite set of (restricted) Poincare'-Birkhoff-Witt generators are determined.
