See-Through Face Display: Enabling Gaze Communication for Any Face$\unicode{x2013}$Human or AI

We present See-Through Face Display, an eye-contact display system designed to enhance gaze awareness in both human-to-human and human-to-avatar communication. The system addresses the limitations of existing gaze correction methods by combining a transparent display with a strategically positioned camera. The display alternates rapidly between a visible and transparent state, thereby enabling the camera to capture clear images of the user's face from behind the display. This configuration allows for mutual gaze awareness among remote participants without the necessity of a large form factor or computationally resource-intensive image processing. In comparison to conventional methodologies, See-Through Face Display offers a number of practical advantages. The system requires minimal physical space, operates with low computational overhead, and avoids the visual artifacts typically associated with software-based gaze redirection. These features render the system suitable for a variety of applications, including multi-party teleconferencing and remote customer service. Furthermore, the alignment of the camera's field of view with the displayed face position facilitates more natural gaze-based interactions with AI avatars. This paper presents the implementation of See-Through Face Display and examines its potential applications, demonstrating how this compact eye-contact system can enhance gaze communication in both human-to-human and human-AI interactions.

See-Through Captions: Real-Time Captioning on Transparent Display for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing People

Real-time captioning is a useful technique for deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) people to talk to hearing people. With the improvement in device performance and the accuracy of automatic speech recognition (ASR), real-time captioning is becoming an important tool for helping DHH people in their daily lives. To realize higher-quality communication and overcome the limitations of mobile and augmented-reality devices, real-time captioning that can be used comfortably while maintaining nonverbal communication and preventing incorrect recognition is required. Therefore, we propose a real-time captioning system that uses a transparent display. In this system, the captions are presented on both sides of the display to address the problem of incorrect ASR, and the highly transparent display makes it possible to see both the body language and the captions.

Discussion of Intelligent Electric Wheelchairs for Caregivers and Care Recipients

In order to reduce the burden on caregivers, we developed an intelligent electric wheelchair. We held workshops with caregivers, asked then regarding the problems in caregiving, and developed problem-solving methods. In the workshop, caregivers' physical fitness and psychology of the older adults were found to be problems and a solution was proposed. We implemented a cooperative operation function for multiple electric wheelchairs based on the workshop and demonstrated it at a nursing home. By listening to older adults, we obtained feedback on the automatic driving electric wheelchair. From the results of this study, we discovered the issues and solutions to be applied to the intelligent electric wheelchair.

Macroscopic theorem of the portfolio optimization problem with a risk-free asset

The investment risk minimization problem with budget and return constraints has been the subject of research using replica analysis but there are shortcomings in the extant literature. With respect to Tobin's separation theorem and the capital asset pricing model, it is necessary to investigate the implications of a risk-free asset and examine its influence on the optimal portfolio. Accordingly, in this work, we explore the investment risk minimization problem in the presence of a risk-free asset with budget and return constraints. Moreover, we discuss opportunity loss, the Pythagorean theorem of the Sharpe ratio, and Tobin's separation theorem.

Transmission of spin waves in ordered FeRh epitaxial thin films

We report on B2-ordering dependence of magnetostatic surface spin waves in ferromagnetic FeRh at room temperature. Spin waves transmit over a distance longer than 21 μm in highly ordered FeRh alloys even with relatively large spin-orbit interaction. The long-range transmission likely arises from the induced Rh moments of the ordered FeRh due to ferromagnetic exchange interaction between Fe and Rh. The results indicate a potential of using FeRh in spintronic and magnonic applications by integrating with other fascinating magnetic characteristics of FeRh such as electric field induced magnetic phase transition.

Room temperature write-read operations in antiferromagnetic memory

B2-ordered FeRh has been known to exhibit antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic (AF-F) phase transitions in the vicinity of room temperature. Manipulation of the Néel order via AF-F phase transition and recent experimental observation of the anisotropic magnetoresistance in antiferromagnetic FeRh has proven that FeRh is a promising candidate for antiferromagnetic memory material. In this work, we demonstrate sequential write and read operations in antiferromagnetic memory resistors made of B2-orderd FeRh thin films by a magnetic field and electric current only. Our demonstration of writing and reading at ambient room temperature opens a realistic pathway towards operational antiferromagnetic memory devices.
