Chiral Doubling of Heavy-Light Hadrons and the New Beauty--Strange $B_{s0}^*(5700)^0$ Candidate

The recent observation by the LHCb Collaboration of a new beauty--strange meson $B_{s0}^*(5700)^0$~\cite{LHCb:2026Bs0star}, under the conditional assignment $J^P=0^+$ provides an important new test of the chiral organization of heavy-light hadrons. More than three decades ago it was proposed that the coexistence of heavy-quark spin symmetry and spontaneously broken chiral symmetry implies that every heavy-light spin multiplet should possess an opposite-parity partner separated by a nearly universal mass gap determined primarily by the dynamics of the light degrees of freedom~\cite{Nowak:1993vc,Bardeen:1993ae}. This chiral doubling scenario was later developed into a quantitative heavy-hadron effective theory and extended to the complete charm and beauty spectra. In particular, the strange beauty sector was predicted to exhibit a parity splitting closely related to that of the strange charm sector, with only small $1/m_Q$ corrections. We briefly review the symmetry origin of chiral doubling, derive the universal parity splitting through the heavy-hadron chiral effective theory, and discuss the new LHCb observation in the context of the original theoretical predictions. Taken together with the established charm spectrum, if the new beauty-strange state is confirmed to have $J^P=0^+$, its mass is consistent with its interpretation as the chiral partner of the ground state $B_s^0$. Finally, we stress that the above confirmation of the spin and parity imposes in the chiral doubling scenario an existence of yet unobserved, very narrow beauty-strange meson with assignment $1^+$ at 5747 $\pm$ 2 MeV. This work is dedicated to the memory of our friend and collaborator Mannque Rho (1936--2026).

Faddeev description of baryons in two-dimensional QCD with $N_c=3$. I. Chiral spectrum, isospin, and strangeness

We develop a light-front Faddeev description of baryons in two-dimensional QCD at $N_c=3$, in which an exact coupled-channel representation identifies the quark--diquark picture as a single-channel truncation, and solve it variationally with exact matrix elements. In the chiral limit we find an exactly massless lightest baryon, in agreement with the classic valence solutions, DLCQ, and bosonization; the excitation tower reproduces Webber's spectrum state by state and sets the valence gap $1.371\,M^{\ast}_{\rm mes}$. The channel content distinguishes these states: the massless baryon is single-channel, the gapped states are genuinely multi-channel, and all baryon Regge trajectories are of the meson class. The calculation is anchored at both ends of the coupling range: the meson-to-baryon mass ratio agrees with strong-coupling bosonization to $0.3$--$4.3\%$, while the valence masses reproduce the full discretized light cone quantization (DLCQ) masses to $0.04\%$ (meson) and $0.15\%$ (baryon) at weak coupling. Extending to two degenerate flavors, we find the massless baryon to be the $\Delta$-like quartet, while the $N$-like doublet at $0.977\,M^{\ast}_{\rm mes}$ is an exact $50\!:\!50$ superposition of good- and bad-diquark channels. Adding a massive strange quark, we obtain, to our knowledge for the first time at the valence three-quark level, the hyperon spectroscopy of QCD$_2$: $\Sigma$-like states fall below $\Lambda$-like ones, inverting the four-dimensional ordering, the chiral thresholds count two kaon units per strange quark, and the Gell-Mann--Okubo relation is protected in mass squared. With all three quark masses non-degenerate, the proton-like state falls below the neutron-like one, $\Sigma^0$--$\Lambda$ mixing appears, and the Coleman--Glashow relation holds at the percent level.

Experimental access to the gluonic origin of the proton mass

Most of the proton mass originates not from the Higgs mechanism but from the quantum structure of the QCD vacuum. The dominant contribution arises from the gluonic trace anomaly associated with the breaking of conformal symmetry in quantum chromodynamics. We show that this anomaly contribution is experimentally accessible through scalar gravitational form factors. The key observable is the scalar gluonic trace form factor of the proton, which can be reconstructed from three measurable quantities: the quark scalar gravitational form factor accessible in deeply virtual Compton scattering, the gluon scalar gravitational form factor measurable in near-threshold heavy quarkonium production, and the nucleon sigma-term form factor. We also show that the scalar gluonic form factor extracted from the trace anomaly is quantitatively consistent with lattice QCD and the instanton liquid model over hadronic distance scales. These results provide a direct experimental path to probing the gluonic origin of visible mass.

Gluon GTMD at strong coupling: fixed-spin saddle factorization and Reggeization

Generalized transverse-momentum-dependent parton distributions (GTMDs) are the most complete two-parton correlation functions in QCD, encoding the joint spatial and momentum structure of hadrons. Through appropriate projections and limits they yield generalized parton distributions (GPDs), transverse-momentum-dependent distributions (TMDs), parton distribution functions (PDFs), and phase-space (Wigner) distributions. We construct conformal moments of unpolarized gluon GTMDs at strong coupling using gauge/string duality. For fixed even conformal spin $j$, we distinguish the local boundary limit at $b_T=0$ from the finite-separation regime $b_T>0$, where the planar semiclassical amplitude is governed by a minimal worldsheet. There the GTMD moment factorizes into a universal staple-worldsheet soft factor and a stripped spin-$j$ Witten amplitude carrying target dependence. The cusp of the renormalized minimal area generates the rapidity-logarithmic Collins-Soper structure. We derive universal ultraviolet and infrared endpoint reductions. As $b_T\to0^+$, the finite-separation sector matches onto the local conformal moment through a universal overlap kernel. At large $b_T$, after cusp/perimeter subtraction, it factorizes into target projections and infrared transfer kernels. The ultraviolet endpoint is universal within the leading saddle, whereas the infrared tail depends on the holographic completion: soft-wall, gap-matched hard-wall, and repulsive-wall backgrounds generate algebraic, exponential, and Gaussian falloffs, respectively. Analytic continuation in $j$ yields the low-$x$ Regge regime governed by the holographic Pomeron spectral curve. The framework describes hadron tomography, transverse structure, rapidity evolution, and Reggeization for GTMD moments and provides a unified starting point for holographic studies of observables relevant to the Electron-Ion Collider.

Anomalies, Topology, and Hadron Structure in QCD

Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) provides a remarkable realization of how quantum effects reshape the symmetries of a classical field theory. The axial anomaly links chirality to gauge-field topology and underlies the resolution of the $U(1)_A$ problem, while the trace anomaly generates the intrinsic QCD scale through dimensional transmutation and accounts for most of the mass of hadrons and hence visible matter. Together, these quantum effects reveal the central role of gluonic dynamics and vacuum structure in strong-interaction physics. In this review, we discuss the theoretical foundations and physical consequences of anomalous symmetry breaking in QCD. We examine anomalous Ward identities, the topological structure of gauge fields, instantons, topological susceptibility, and the realization of chiral and scale symmetries in the QCD vacuum. We review their role in the generation of hadron masses, the $\eta'$ mass, and the resolution of the $U(1)_A$ problem, and discuss their manifestations in polarized deep inelastic scattering, nucleon spin structure, and modern studies of hadron structure. Particular emphasis is placed on recent developments connecting vacuum topology, the flavor-singlet axial charge, topological screening, and the proton spin problem. Our aim is to provide a unified perspective on how quantum anomalies connect vacuum structure, hadron properties, and partonic observables, bridging nonperturbative dynamics and perturbative QCD.

Chiral Structure and Selection Rules in Light-Front Nucleon-Pentaquark Mixing

We present a light-front Hamiltonian analysis of nucleon-pentaquark mixing induced by $\sigma$- and $\pi$-type transition operators in a fully Pauli-consistent five-quark basis. The pentaquark configurations are constructed using a systematic permutation-group classification of orbital, spin-flavor, and color degrees of freedom, and the hyperfine interaction is diagonalized to obtain orthonormal eigenchannels with definite quantum numbers. We compute the mixing coefficients for all 27 positive-parity $P$-wave pentastates and find a highly sparse structure: only 6 channels contribute to the nucleon wave function, while the remaining 21 vanish due to symmetry selection rules. The nonzero contributions are concentrated in a small set of hyperfine eigenchannels, demonstrating a strong dominance pattern. The $\sigma$- and $\pi$-induced amplitudes populate the same subset of states and are related by a fixed phase, reflecting their common chiral structure, which eliminates interference in the normalization. As a result, their contributions add incoherently, yielding a total five-quark probability of about $29\%$, with the remaining $71\%$ residing in the three-quark core. These results show that nucleon-pentaquark mixing is governed primarily by symmetry selection rules and chiral structure, and that the five-quark content is dominated by a small number of dynamically selected channels.

Hybrid hadrons at rest and on the light front

We present a unified description of heavy hybrid hadrons based on a constituent-gluon picture embedded in the Born-Oppenheimer (BO) framework. In this approach, the gluonic excitation is treated as a dynamical quasiparticle with a mass generated by instanton-induced interactions. We propose a simple variational derivation of the BO potentials. The main focus of the paper is the derivation of light-front wave functions for hybrid systems, specifically for the $ccg$ and $qqqg$ cases. We employ both variational methods and numerical solutions of the Schr\"odinger equation in momentum representation. Using the resulting wave functions, we compute the gluon PDFs for these systems.

Glueballs, Constituent Gluons and Instantons

We present a constituent two-gluon description of the lowest-lying glueball states in pure Yang--Mills theory, calibrated against quenched lattice results. The framework incorporates an instanton-induced dynamical gluon mass, Casimir-scaled adjoint confinement, the short-distance adjoint Coulomb interaction, and instanton-induced central and tensor forces. The scalar $0^{++}$ glueball is found to be exceptionally compact, with a radius of order the instanton size, $\rho \sim \frac 13\,\mathrm{fm}$, consistent with lattice indications. By contrast, the tensor $2^{++}$ state remains spatially extended due to the centrifugal barrier. We also discuss the role of $S$-$D$ mixing. A semiclassical analysis further supports Regge behavior for excited states, in agreement with lattice results.

The Hadron-Parton Bridge, From the QCD Vacuum to Partons

Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) exhibits complementary descriptions of hadrons: a rest-frame picture based on confinement, chiral symmetry breaking and interquark forces, and a high-energy light-front picture expressed through parton distributions (PDFs,TMDs,GPDs) and form factors. This review develops a unified framework that connects these two domains. It is based mostly on multiple studies by the authors in the past few years. Using the Instanton Liquid Model (ILM) to capture essential nonperturbative features of the QCD vacuum, we derive effective interactions for mesons, baryons, and multiquark states, construct their wave functions in hyperspherical coordinates, and boost them to the light front. The resulting light-front Hamiltonians, incorporating both perturbative and instanton-induced dynamics in the Wilsonian spirit, provide realistic nonperturbative inputs for computing PDFs, DAs, GPDs, quasi-distributions, and gravitational form factors at a well-defined low scale. The connection to perturbative QCD is then established by matching gradient-flow-renormalized operators and LF wave functions to the standard $\overline{\rm MS}$ scheme. Perturbative DGLAP and ERBL evolution then connects these predictions to experimentally accessible regimes. % This approach is applied to quarkonia, glueballs, light mesons, baryons, tetraquarks, pentaquarks, and higher multiquark hadrons, yielding consistent descriptions of both their spectra and partonic structure. Special emphasis is placed on the energy-momentum tensor and the mechanical properties of hadrons, which emerge naturally from the same dynamical ingredients. Overall, the framework demonstrates a clear continuity between hadronic spectroscopy and partonic observables, offering a coherent multiscale picture of hadron structure rooted in the underlying dynamics of QCD.

Tensor network simulations of quasi-GPDs in the massive Schwinger model

Generalized Parton Distribution functions (GPDs) are off-diagonal light-cone matrix elements that encode the internal structure of hadrons in terms of quark and gluon degrees of freedom. In this work, we present the first nonperturbative study of quasi-GPDs in the massive Schwinger model, quantum electrodynamics in 1+1 dimensions (QED2), within the Hamiltonian formulation of lattice field theory. Quasi-distributions are spatial correlation functions of boosted states, which approach the relevant light-cone distributions in the luminal limit. Using tensor networks, we prepare the first excited state in the strongly coupled regime and boost it to close to the light-cone on lattices of up to 400 lattice sites. We compute both quasi-parton distribution functions and, for the first time, quasi-GPDs, and study their convergence for increasingly boosted states. In addition, we perform analytic calculations of GPDs in the two-particle Fock-space approximation and in the Reggeized limit, providing qualitative benchmarks for the tensor network results. Our analysis establishes computational benchmarks for accessing partonic observables in low-dimensional gauge theories, offering a starting point for future extensions to higher dimensions, non-Abelian theories, and quantum simulations.

The color force acting on a quark in the pion and nucleon

In the Operator Product Expansion (OPE) of hard scattering amplitudes, the twist-3 operators describe local colored Lorentz forces acting on a quark, thereby providing a measure of the strength of the gluon fields. Its value is directly accessible from the nucleon twist-3 polarized $g_2$-parton distribution function. In the semiclassical (instanton-based) QCD vacuum models, the leading non-perturbative contribution stems from correlated instanton-anti-instanton pairs, or molecules. We analyze the magnitude of the color force on a struck quark in light hadrons (pion and nucleon), in the context of the instanton liquid model (ILM). We derive explicitly the pertinent form factors associated with the color Lorentz force and show that they are intimately related to the pertinent hadronic gravitational and transversity form factors. Using the ILM enhanced by molecules, we detail the ensuing colored force distribution in the transverse plane for the luminal pions and nucleons. The results for the nucleons are in good agreement with those recently reported from a lattice collaboration.

Pentaquarks on the light front, and their mixture with baryons

In previous papers we developed the light front formulation for Hamiltonians and wave functions (WFs) for mesons and baryons, with both confinement and chiral symmetry breaking. For baryons limited to the lowest Fock component with three quarks, the longitudinal WF is valued in an equilateral triangle with momentum fractions $x_i,i=1,2,3$. The WF was developed both numerically and using a basis function that diagonalizes the Laplacian with Dirichlet boundary conditions. In this paper we extend this analysis to $n$ quark states, and specialize to pentaquarks ($n=5$). We determine their masses and WFs, and address the mixing between baryons and pentaquarks, the issue central to understanding the observed antiquark sea of baryons.

Light S-wave pentaquarks on the light front

We construct an explicit basis set for pentaquark states on a regular 4-simplex, that diagonalizes the Hamiltonian for light pentaquarks with confinement on the light front (LF). The ensuing eigenstates are free of the center of mass motion and satisfy exact Dirichlet boundary conditions. Hyperfine interactions in the form of color-spin or flavor-spin are shown to lift the degeneracy of the 16 pentastates, with a spectrum that compares fairly with some of the empirical nucleon excited states. The quark PDF for the light pentastates is discussed.

String-based axial and helicity-flip GPDs: a comparison to lattice QCD

We construct an analytic, string based representation of the nucleon's axial and helicity flip conformal moments of generalized parton distributions that holds for any skewness and for both the quark and gluon channels. The starting point is the Mellin Barnes resummation of the conformal partial wave expansion, where the moments are parametrized by open (Reggeon) and closed string (Pomeron) trajectories with slopes determined by experimental form factors and meson/glueball spectroscopy. The forward limits are fixed by the empirical unpolarized and polarized parton distributions. Polynomiality, crossing symmetry and support are satisfied by construction. After NLO DGLAP ERBL evolution to $\mu=2$ GeV our analytic framework (i) reproduces some of the currently available lattice moments of $\mathbb{E}$ and $\widetilde{\mathbb{H}}$ in the non singlet sector, (ii) predicts sea quark and gluon polarized moments that will be testable by forthcoming simulations and experiments at Jefferson Lab and the future EIC, and (iii) yields axial and helicity flip GPDs in $x$ space in reasonable agreement with lattice QCD.

Polarization of the $\phi$ meson in the hadronic phase with nucleon scatterings and a viscous hydrodynamic background

We extend our previous work on the spin alignment of the $\phi$ vector meson in the hadronic phase of the Quark Gluon Plasma, by including effects of nucleon scatterings. The emission rates are calculated in a realistic hydrodynamic background simulated with the code Fluid$u$m, for different beam energies. We find that all the effects taken into account cannot explain the out-of-plane spin alignment of the $\phi$ meson observed experimentally.

Rapidity-Dependent Spin Decomposition of the Nucleon

We show that the two-dimensional Fourier transform of the generalized parton distributions (GPDs) has two distinct interpretations: at zero skewness ($\eta=0$) it yields the familiar impact-parameter density, while at finite skewness ($\eta \neq 0$) it encodes a genuine parton-nucleon correlation whose norm decreases predictably with the rapidity gap $\Delta y = 2\mathrm{artanh} \eta$. This rapidity dependence produces universal rapidity-modified Ji identities linking helicity, orbital, and total angular momenta analytically. Using linear open- and closed string Regge trajectories constrained by empirical PDFs, spectroscopy and form factor data, we obtain the leading twist GPDs $H,E,\widetilde{H}$ across the full $(x,\eta,t)$ range. Numerical Mellin Barnes inversion agrees with existing lattice data and yields rapidity resolved predictions for Jefferson Lab 12 GeV, the Electron Ion Collider, and forthcoming lattice studies.

Pentaquarks made of light quarks and their admixture to baryons

This paper is a continuation of our studies of multiquark hadrons. The anti-symmetrization of their wavefunctions required by Fermi statistics is nontivial, as it mixes orbital, color, spin and flavor structures. In our previous papers we developed a method to find them based on the representations of the permutation group, and derived the explicit wave functions for baryons excited to the first and second shells $(L=1,2)$, tetraquarks $qq\bar q\bar q$ and hexaquarks ($6q$). Now we apply it to light pentaquarks ($qqqq\bar q$), in the S- and P-shells ($L=0,1$). Using Jacobi coordinates, one can use the hyperdistance approximation in 12-dimensional space. We further address the issue of ``unquenching" of baryons, by considering their mixing with pentaquarks, via two channels, through the addition of $\sigma$-like or $\pi$-like $\bar q q$ pairs. This mixing is central for understanding of the observed flavor asymmetry of the antiquark sea, the amount of orbital motion issue as well as other nucleon properties.

D-shell mixing in light baryons and its effect on the orbital motion

The standard description of the nucleon in the non-relativistic quark model is an $1S,L=0$ state without orbital motion. Yet, there are several indications from phenomenology that an admixture of states with nonzero orbital motion maybe substantial. In this paper we focus on the ``second shell" of the nucleon excitations (D-shell), for which we give a modern description of the wave functions. We follow it by investigating what we call a ``maximal mixing" scenario, assuming a hypothetical long-range tensor force. We give the explicit wave functions for all states, before and after mixing, and re-assess many predictions such as the magnetic moments, the standard and transitional form-factors from the nucleon to $N^*$. Unexpectedly, in this scenario we can reproduce the long-puzzling features of the Roper resonance $N^*( 1440)$. But even in this extreme case, the admixture of the $1D,L=2$ state to a nucleon remains significantly smaller than expected from phenomenology.
