Evidence for +-s-wave pairing symmetry in LiFeAs: specific heat study

We report specific heat capacity measurements on a LiFeAs single crystal at temperatures down to 400 mK and magnetic fields up to 9 Tesla. A small specific heat jump at Tc and finite residual density of states at T=0 K in the superconducting (SC) state indicate that there are strong unitary scatterers that lead to states within the SC gap. A sub-linear magnetic field dependence of the Sommerfeld coefficient γ(H) at T=0 K is equally well fitted by both a nodal d-wave gap as well as a sign changing multiband \pm s-wave gap. When impurity effects are taken into account, however, the linear temperature dependence of the electronic specific heat C_{el}/T at low temperatures argues against a nodal d-wave superconducting gap. We conclude that the SC state of LiFeAs is most compatible with the multiband \pm s-wave SC state with the gap values Δ_{small}=0.46 Δ_{large}.

Electronic Structure Studies of Detwinned BaFe$_2$As$_2$ by Photoemission

We performed angle resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) studies on mechanically detwinned BaFe2As2. We observe clear band dispersions and the shapes and characters of the Fermi surfaces are identified. Shapes of the two hole pockets around the Γ-point are found to be consistent with the Fermi surface topology predicted in the orbital ordered states. Dirac-cone like band dispersions near the Γ-point are clearly identified as theoretically predicted. At the X-point, split bands remain intact in spite of detwinning, barring twinning origin of the bands. The observed band dispersions are compared with calculated band structures. With a magnetic moment of 0.2 ?B per iron atom, there is a good agreement between the calculation and experiment.

Calorimetric Evidence for Nodes in the Overdoped Ba(Fe$_{0.9}$Co$_{0.1}$)$_{2}$As$_{2}$

We present low-temperature specific heat of the electron-doped Ba(Fe$_{0.9}$Co$_{0.1}$)$_{2}$As$_{2}$, which does not show any indication of an upturn down to 400 mK, the lowest measuring temperature. The lack of a Schottky-like feature at low temperatures or in magnetic fields up to 9 Tesla enables us to identify enhanced low-temperature quasiparticle excitations and to study anisotropy in the linear term of the specific heat. Our results can not be explained by a single or multiple isotropic superconducting gap, but are consistent with multi-gap superconductivity with nodes on at least one Fermi surface sheet.

Crystalline electric field effects in Ce 3$d$ core-level spectra of heavy-fermion systems: Hard X-ray photoemission spectroscopy on CeNi$_{1-x}$Co$_x$Ge$_2$

High-resolution hard X-ray photoemission measurements have been performed to clarify the electronic structure originating from the strong correlation between electrons in bulk Ce 3$d$ core-level spectra of CeNi$_{1-x}$Co$_x$Ge$_2$ (0 $\leq$ $x$ $\leq$ 1). In the Ce 3$d_{5/2}$ core-level spectra, the variation of satellite structures ($f^2$ peaks) shows that the hybridization strength between Ce 4$f$- and conduction electrons gradually increases with Co concentration in good agreement with the results of Ce 3$d-4f$ and 4$d-4f$ resonant photoemission spectroscopies. Particularly, in Ce 3$d_{3/2}$ core-level spectra, the multiplet structures of $f^1$ peaks systematically change with the degeneracy of $f$-states which originates from crystalline electric field effects.
