Flat-band excitonic states in Kagome lattice on semiconductor surface

Excitonic properties in the Kagome lattice system, which is produced by quantum wires on semiconductor surfaces, are investigated by using the exact diagonalization of a tight binding model. It is shown that due to the existence of flat bands the binding energy of exciton becomes remarkably large in the two-dimensional Kagome lattice compared to that in one-dimensional lattice, and the exciton Bohr radius is quite small as large as a lattice constant. We also discuss the magnetic field effects on the exciton binding energy and the stability of exciton against the creation of charged exciton and biexciton.

Parity-sensitive measurements based on ferromagnet/superconductor tunneling junctions

A method to identify the parity of unconventional superconductors is proposed based on tunneling spectroscopy. For a model of calculation, we adopt a ferromagnet/superconductor (F/S) junction of which tunneling current is spin polarized. The tunneling conductance spectra are shown to be quite sensitive to the direction of the magnetization axis in the ferromagnet only when the superconductor has odd parity. Therefore, it is possible to distinguish the parity of the superconductor by measuring the tunneling spectroscopy in F/S junctions.

Interface effects on the shot noise in normal metal- d-wave superconductor Junctions

The current fluctuation in normal metal / d-wave superconductor junctions are studied for various orientation of the crystal by taking account of the spatial variation of the pair potentials. Not only the zero-energy Andreev bound states (ZES) but also the non-zero energy Andreev bound states influence on the properties of differential shot noise. At the tunneling limit, the noise power to current ratio at zero voltage becomes 0, once the ZES are formed at the interface. Under the presence of a subdominant s-wave component at the interface which breaks time-reversal symmetry, the ratio becomes 4e

Dicke-superradiance in electronic systems coupled to reservoirs

We present theoretical results for superradiance, i.e. the collective coherent decay of a radiating system, in semiconductor structures. An optically active region can become superradiant if a strong magnetic field is applied. Pumping of electrons and holes at a rate T through coupling to external `reservoirs' leads to a novel kind of oscillations with frequency $\sim \sqrt{T}$.}

Non-equilibrium spin accumulation in ferromagnetic single-electron transistors

We study transport in ferromagnetic single-electron transistors. The non- equilibrium spin accumulation on the island caused by a finite current through the system is described by a generalized theory of the Coulomb blockade. It enhances the tunnel magnetoresistance and has a drastic effect on the time- dependent transport properties. A transient decay of the spin accumulation may reverse the electric current on time scales of the order of the spin-flip relaxation time. This can be used as an experimental signature of the non- equilibrium spin accumulation.

Spin-accumulation in small ferromagnetic double barrier junctions

The non-equilibrium spin accumulation in ferromagnetic double barrier junctions is shown to govern the transport in small structures. Transport properties of such systems are described by a generalization of the theory of the Coulomb blockade. The spin accumulation enhances the magnetoresistance. The transient non-linear transport properties are predicted to provide a unique experimental evidence of the spin-accumulation in the form of a reversed current on time scales of the order of the spin-flip relaxation time.

Electronic and magnetic states in doped LaCoO_3

The electronic and magnetic states in doped perovskite cobaltites, (La, Sr)CoO_3, are studied in the numerically exact diagonalization method on Co_2O_{11} clusters. For realistic parameter values, it is shown that a high spin state and an intermediate spin state coexist in one-hole doped clusters due to strong p-d mixing. The magnetic states in the doped cobaltites obtained in the calculation explain various experimental results.

Oscillatory behavior of a superradiating system coupled to electron reservoirs

We investigate a superradiating system coupled to external reservoirs. Under conditions where electrons tunneling at a rate $T$ act like an electron pump, we predict a novel phenomenon in the form of oscillations with a frequency $ω\simeq \sqrt{2ΓT}$ that appear in the (photon) emission intensity, where $Γ$ is the spontaneous decay rate of a single two-level system. The effect, together with a strong enhancement of the superradiant peak, should be observable in semiconductor quantum wells in strong magnetic fields, or in quantum dot arrays.
