Observation of an Altered $a_{0}(980)$ Line shape in $D^{+} \rightarrow \pi^{+}\eta\eta$

Using $20.3~{\rm fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the BESIII detector at $\sqrt{s}=3.773~{\rm GeV}$, we perform the first amplitude analysis of the decay $D^+\to\pi^+\eta\eta$. The intermediate process $D^+\to a_0(980)^+\eta$, $a_0(980)^+\to\pi^+\eta$, is observed as the only significant component in the amplitude analysis, and its branching fraction is measured to be $(3.67\pm0.12_{\rm stat}\pm0.06_{\rm syst})\times10^{-3}$. The $\pi^+\eta$ mass spectrum associated with $a_0(980)^+\eta$ production exhibits a line shape that differs substantially from those observed in $D_{(s)}\to a_0(980)\pi$ and $D^0\to a_0(980)^-e^+\nu_e$ decays. We examine several conventional descriptions of the $a_0(980)$ amplitude, including Flatt\'e, dispersively modified Flatt\'e, $T$-matrix, and $K$-matrix parameterizations. With reference $a_0(980)$ parameters, neither these models nor their extensions including additional small resonant or non-resonant amplitudes reproduce the observed line shape satisfactorily. When the $a_0(980)$ parameters are allowed to float, satisfactory fits can be obtained, but the pole mass is driven well above the $K\bar K$ threshold, inconsistent with the near-threshold character of the $a_0(980)$. The results reveal a tension between fit quality and the physical pole position in conventional direct-production amplitude models.

Study of $\bar{K}^*(892)^0 \eta$ and $K_S^0 a_0(980)^0$ in the $D^{0} \to K_{S}^{0}\pi^0\eta$ decay

We perform an amplitude analysis of the decay $D^0 \to K_S^0 \pi^0 \eta$ and measure its absolute branching fraction to be $(1.016 \pm 0.013_{\text {stat.}} \pm 0.014_{\text {syst.}})\%$. The analysis utilizes $20.3~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector. The branching fraction of the intermediate process $D^0 \rightarrow \bar{K}^*(892)^0 \eta$ is determined to be $(0.73 \pm 0.05_{\text {stat.}} \pm 0.03_{\text {syst.}}) \%$, which is $5 \sigma$ smaller than the result measured in $D^0 \to K^- \pi^+ \eta$ by the Belle experiment. As a result, the magnitudes of the $W$-exchange and QCD-penguin exchange amplitudes are found to be less than half of their current estimations. Furthermore, we determine $\mathcal{B}(D^0\to K_S^0a_0(980)^0, a_0(980)^0\to \pi^0\eta) = (9.88\pm 0.37_{\rm stat.}\pm 0.42_{\rm syst.})\times10^{-3}$, with a precision improved by a factor of 4.5 compared to the world average.

Evidence for the semileptonic decays $\Lambda_c^{+} \to \Sigma^{\pm} \pi^{\mp} e^+ \nu_e$

Using $4.5\, fb^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected by the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between $4.600$ and $4.699\,GeV$, we search for the semileptonic decays $\Lambda_c^{+} \to \Sigma^{+} \pi^{-} e^+ \nu_e$ and $\Lambda_c^{+} \to \Sigma^{-} \pi^{+} e^+ \nu_e$ for the first time. Assuming their branching fractions are equal under isospin symmetry, evidence for $\Lambda_c^{+} \to \Sigma^{\pm} \pi^{\mp} e^+ \nu_e$ is reported with a significance of $3.6\sigma$. The corresponding branching fraction is measured to be $\mathcal{B}(\Lambda_c^{+} \to \Sigma^\pm\pi^\mp e^+\nu_e) = (7.7^{+2.5}_{-2.3_{\rm stat.}}\pm1.3_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-4}$, which is consistent with quark model predictions within two standard deviations.

The hyperon weak radiative decay $\Xi^0\to\gamma\Sigma^0$ is measured via the process $J/\psi\to\Xi^0\bar\Xi^0$. The absolute branching fraction of $\Xi^0\to\gamma\Sigma^0$ is determined to be $(3.69\pm 0.21_{\text{stat}}\pm0.12_{\text{syst}})\times 10^{-3}$, based on $(10.087\pm 0.044)\times 10^{9}$ $J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The decay asymmetry parameter is measured, with a complete angular analysis of the cascade decay chain, to be $\alpha_{\gamma} = -0.807\pm 0.095_{\text{stat}}\pm 0.011_{\text{syst}}$.

Search for the lepton number violating decay $\eta\to \pi^+\pi^+e^-e^- + c.c.$ via $J/\psi\to\phi\eta$

Based on a sample of $ (10.087\pm 0.044)\times 10^{9} J/\psi$ events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we perform the first search for the lepton number violating decay $\eta \to \pi^+\pi^+ e^-e^- + \text{c.c.}$ No signal is found, and an upper limit on the branching fraction of $\eta \to \pi^+\pi^+ e^-e^- + c.c.$ is set to be $4.6 \times 10^{-6}$ at the 90\% confidence level.

First Observation of $\Lambda$ Hyperon Transverse Polarization in $\psi(3686)\to\Lambda\bar\Lambda$

Based on $(448.1\pm2.9)\times10^{6}$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we present the first observation of spin transverse polarization of $\Lambda$ and $\bar\Lambda$ hyperons produced coherently in the decay $\psi(3686)\to\Lambda(\to p\pi^-)\bar\Lambda(\to\bar p\pi^+)$. The relative phase between the electric and magnetic hadronic form factors is measured to be $\Delta\Phi=(21.0\pm3.7_{\rm stat.}\pm0.8_{\rm syst.})^{\circ}$. The angular distribution parameter $\alpha_{\psi}=0.83\pm0.02_{\rm stat.}\pm0.01_{\rm syst.}$ is determined with a precision improved by a factor of 3.7 compared to the previous measurement. The relative phase between the $S$- and $D$-wave amplitudes for $\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ is observed, and the effective interaction radius is determined to be $0.0450\pm0.0026_{\rm stat.}\pm0.0012_{\rm syst.}$ fm. These results provide new insights into the strong interaction mechanisms and the internal structure of baryons.

Observation of $\psi(3686)\to \gamma \eta(1405)$ via $\eta(1405)\to f_0(980)\pi^0$

The decay $\psi(3686)\to\gamma\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$ is studied using a sample of $(2712.4\pm14.3)\times10^6$ $\psi(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector. The decay $\eta(1405)\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$ is observed for the first time in $\psi(3686)$ decays via the intermediate state $f_0(980)$ and the product branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686)\to\gamma\eta(1405))\times\mathcal{B}(\eta(1405)\to f_0(980)\pi^0)\times \mathcal{B}(f_0(980)\to\pi^+\pi^-)$ is determined to be $(3.77\pm0.43\pm0.29)\times10^{-7}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The isospin-violating decay of $\psi(3686)\to\gamma f_1(1285)\to\gamma f_0(980)\pi^0\to\gamma\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$ has been observed with signal significance of $2.9\sigma$. And the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686)\to\gamma f_1(1285)\to\gamma f_0(980)\pi^0\to\gamma\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0)$ is determined to be $ (7.36\pm2.25\pm2.26)\times 10^{-8}$. Since no $\eta_c$ signal is evident in either the $\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$ or $f_0(980)\pi^0$ mass spectrum, upper limits are set to be $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686)\to\gamma\eta_c)\times\mathcal{B}(\eta_c\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0)<3.09\times10^{-7}$ and $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686)\to\gamma\eta_c)\times\mathcal{B}(\eta_c\to f_0(980)\pi^0)\times\mathcal{B}(f_0(980)\to\pi^+\pi^-)<7.97\times10^{-8}$ at 90\% confidence level, respectively.

No significant signal is observed, and an upper limit of $\mathcal{B}(\chi_{c1}\to\pi^+\pi^-\eta_c)$ is determined to be $3.1 times 10^{-4}$~at 90\% confidence level, which is one order of magnitude more stringent than the previous measurement.

Measurement of Born Cross Sections and Effective Form Factors of $e^+e^-\to \Omega^{-}\bar{\Omega}^{+}$ from$\sqrt{s}$ = 3.7 to 4.7 GeV

Using $e^+e^-$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 22.7 fb$^{-1}$, collected at center-of-mass energies between 3.7 and 4.7 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, we measure the energy-dependent Born cross sections of $e^+e^-\to \Omega^{-}\bar{\Omega}^+$ and the effective form factors of the $\Omega^-$ baryon. The analysis employs a single baryon tagging method, and the results are consistent with theoretical predictions, providing critical constraints on the electromagnetic structure of the $\Omega^-$ hyperon. No significant signal of charmonium or charmonium-like states decaying to $\Omega^{-}\bar{\Omega}^+$ is observed in the investigated energy range.

Measurement of the $\eta$ transition form factor through $\eta' \rightarrow \pi^+\pi^-\eta$ decay

Based on a sample of $(1.0087\pm0.0044)\times10^{10}$ $J/\psi$ events collected at BESIII, the transition form factor of the $\eta$ meson is extracted by analyzing $J/\psi\to\gamma\eta',~\eta'\to\pi^+\pi^-\eta,~\eta\to\gamma l^+l^-$ ($l$=$e$, $\mu$) events. The measured slope of the transition form factor is $\Lambda^{-2}=1.645\pm0.093_{\rm stat.}\pm {0.024_{\rm sys.}}$ (GeV/$c^2$)$^{-2}$ for the di-electron channel and $\Lambda^{-2}=1.645\pm0.343_{\rm stat.}\pm0.017_{\rm sys.}$ (GeV/$c^2$)$^{-2}$ for the di-muon channel. The branching fractions for $\eta\rightarrow\gamma e^+e^-$ and $\eta\rightarrow\gamma\mu^+\mu^-$ are measured to be $\mathcal{B}(\eta\to\gamma e^+e^-)=(6.79\pm0.04_{\rm stat.}\pm0.36_{\rm sys.})\times 10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(\eta\to\gamma\mu^+\mu^-)=(2.97\pm0.11_{\rm stat.}\pm0.07_{\rm sys.})\times 10^{-4}$. By combining with the results based on the $J/\psi\to\gamma\eta,~\eta\to\gamma e^+e^-$ events from the previous BESIII measurement, we determine $\Lambda^{-2}=1.707\pm0.076_{\rm stat.}\pm0.029_{\rm sys.}$ (GeV/$c^2$)$^{-2}$ and $\mathcal{B}(\eta\to\gamma e^+e^-)=(6.93\pm0.28_{\rm tot.})\times 10^{-3}$. In addition, we search for the dark photon ($A'$) using the combined events. No significant signal is observed, and the upper limits on $\mathcal{B}(\eta\to\gamma A',~A'\to e^+e^-)$ are set at 90\% confidence level for different $A'$ mass hypotheses.

Observation of $D^+\to K^0_S\pi^0\mu^+\nu_\mu$, Test of Lepton Flavor Universality and First Angular Analysis of $D^+\to \bar{K}^\ast(892)^0\ell^+\nu_\ell$

We report a study of the semileptonic decays $D^+\to K_S^0\pi^0\ell^+\nu_\ell$ ($\ell = e, \mu$) based on $20.3\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector. The $D^+\to K_S^0\pi^0\mu^+\nu_\mu$ decay is observed for the first time, with a branching fraction of $(0.896\pm0.017_{\rm stat}\pm0.008_{\rm syst})\%$, and the branching fraction of $D^+\to K_S^0\pi^0e^+\nu_e$ is determined with the improved precision as $(0.943\pm0.012_{\rm stat}\pm0.010_{\rm syst})\%$. From the analysis of the dynamics, we observe that the dominant $\bar{K}^\ast(892)^0$ component is accompanied by an $S$-wave contribution, which accounts for $(7.10 \pm 0.68_{\rm stat} \pm 0.41_{\rm syst})\%$ of the total decay rate of the $\mu^+$ channel and $(6.39 \pm 0.17_{\rm stat} \pm 0.14_{\rm syst})\%$ of the $e^+$ channel. Assuming a single-pole dominance parameterization, the hadronic form factor ratios are extracted to be $r_V=V(0)/A_1(0)=1.42 \pm\, 0.03_{\rm stat} \pm\, 0.02_{\rm syst}$ and $r_2=A_2(0)/A_1(0)=0.75 \pm\, 0.03_{\rm stat} \pm\, 0.01_{\rm syst}$. Based on the first comprehensive angular and the decay-rate $CP$ asymmetry analysis, the full set of averaged angular and $CP$ asymmetry observables are measured as a function of the momentum-transfer squared; they are consistent with expectations from the Standard Model. No evidence for violation of $\mu-e$ lepton-flavor universality is observed in either the full range or the five chosen bins of momentum-transfer squared.

Study of $f_1(1420)$ and $\eta(1405)$ in the decay $J/\psi \to \gamma \pi^{0}\pi^{0}\pi^{0}$

A partial-wave analysis is performed on the decay $J/\psi\to\gamma\pi^{0}\pi^{0}\pi^{0}$ within the $\pi^{0}\pi^{0}\pi^{0}$ invariant-mass region below 1.6 GeV$/c^{2}$, using $(10.09~\pm~0.04)\times10^{9} ~J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector. Significant isospin-violating decays of $\eta(1405)$ and $f_1(1420)$ into $f_0(980)\pi^{0}$ are observed. For the first time, three axial-vectors, $f_1(1285)$, $f_1(1420)$ and $f_1(1510)$, are observed to decay into $\pi^{0}\pi^{0}\pi^{0}$. The product branching fractions of these resonances are reported.

Improved Measurements of $D^+ \to \eta e^+\nu_e$ and $D^+ \to \eta \mu^+\nu_\mu$

Using 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fractions of $D^+\to \eta e^+\nu_e$ and $D^+\to \eta\mu^+\nu_\mu$ to be $(9.75\pm0.29\pm0.28)\times10^{-4}$ and $(9.08\pm0.35\pm0.23)\times10^{-4}$, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. From a simultaneous fit to their partial decay rates, we determine the product of the hadronic form factor $f^\eta_+(0)$ and the modulus of the $c\to d$ Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cd}|$ to be $f^\eta_+(0)|V_{cd}|=0.078\pm0.002\pm0.001$. Taking the $|V_{cd}|$ value from the Standard Model global fit as input, we obtain $f^\eta_+(0)=0.345\pm0.008\pm0.003$. The ratio between the measured branching fractions of $D^+\to\eta^+\mu^+\nu_{\mu}$ and $D^+\to\eta e^+\nu_e$, is determined to be $0.93\pm0.05_{\rm stat.}\pm0.02_{\rm syst.}$, indicating no violation of lepton flavor universality.

Measurement of the branching fractions of the Cabibbo-favored decays $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Lambda K_{S}^{0}K^{+}$ and $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Xi^{0}K_{S}^{0}\pi^{+}$ and search for $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Sigma^{0} K_{S}^{0}K^{+}$

Based on $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 4.5 fb$^{-1}$ collected at center-of-mass energies between 4599.53 MeV and 4698.82 MeV with the BESIII detector, the absolute branching fraction of the Cabibbo-favored decay $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Lambda K_{S}^{0}K^{+}$ is measured to be $(3.12\pm0.46\pm0.15)\times10^{-3}$. Combined with a previous measurement from the BESIII Collaboration, the branching fraction of the decay $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Lambda K_{S}^{0}K^{+}$ is calculated to be $(3.07\pm0.26\pm0.13)\times10^{-3}$. The decay $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Xi^{0}K_{S}^{0}\pi^{+}$ is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of $6.6\sigma$, and its branching fraction is determined to be $(3.70\pm0.60\pm0.21)\times10^{-3}$. In addition, a search for the decay $\Lambda_{c}^{+}\to\Sigma^{0} K_{S}^{0}K^{+}$ is performed and its branching fraction is determined to be $(0.80^{+0.28}_{-0.24}\pm0.16)\times10^{-3}$, corresponding to an upper limit of $1.28\times10^{-3}$ at $90\%$ confidence level. These measurements provide new information that can be used to distinguish between theoretical models.

First measurement of $\Sigma^{+}n\rightarrow\Lambda p$ and $\Sigma^{+}n\rightarrow\Sigma^{0}p$ cross sections via $\Sigma^+$-nucleus scattering at an electron-positron collider

Using $(1.0087\pm0.0044)\times10^{10}$ $J/\psi$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, the reactions $\Sigma^{+}n\rightarrow\Lambda p$ and $\Sigma^{+}n\rightarrow\Sigma^{0}p$ are studied, where the $\Sigma^{+}$ baryon is produced in the process $J/\psi\rightarrow\Sigma^{+}\bar{\Sigma}^-$ and the neutron is a component of the $^9\rm{Be}$, $^{12}\rm{C}$ and $^{197}\rm{Au}$ nuclei in the beam pipe. Clear signals of these two reactions are observed for the first time. Their cross sections are measured to be $\sigma(\Sigma^{+}+{^9\rm{Be}}\rightarrow\Lambda+p+X)=(45.2\pm12.1_{\rm{stat}}\pm7.2_{\rm{sys}})$ mb and $\sigma(\Sigma^{+}+{^9\rm{Be}}\rightarrow\Sigma^{0}+p+X)=(29.8\pm9.7_{\rm{stat}}\pm6.9_{\rm{sys}})$ mb for a $\Sigma^{+}$ average momentum of $0.992$ GeV/$c$, within a range of $\pm0.015$ GeV/$c$, where $X$ represents the residual nucleus. Measurement of branching fractions of $\Lambda_{c}^{+}$ decays to $\Sigma^{+} \eta$ and $\Sigma^{+} \eta'$

Test of local realism via entangled $\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ system

The non-locality of quantum correlations is a fundamental feature of quantum theory. The Bell inequality serves as a benchmark for distinguishing between predictions made by quantum theory and local hidden variable theory (LHVT). Recent advancements in photon-entanglement experiments have addressed potential loopholes and have observed significant violations of variants of Bell inequality. However, examples of Bell inequalities violation in high energy physics are scarce. In this study, we utilize $(10.087\pm0.044)\times10^{9}$ $J/\psi$ events collected with the BES-III detector at the BEPCII collider, performing non-local correlation tests using the entangled hyperon pairs. The massive-entangled $\Lambda\bar\Lambda$ systems are formed and decay through strong and weak interactions, respectively. Through measurements of the angular distribution of $p\bar{p}$ in $J/\psi\to \gamma\eta_c$ and subsequent $\eta_c\to\Lambda(p\pi^-)\bar\Lambda(\bar{p}\pi^{+})$ cascade decays, a significant violation of LHVT predictions is observed. The exclusion of LHVT is found to be statistically significant at a level exceeding $5.2\sigma$ in the testing of three Bell-like inequalities.
