Classification of quaternionic skew-Hermitian symmetric spaces

We provide a complete classification of quaternionic skew-Hermitian symmetric spaces, namely symmetric spaces that admit a torsion-free ${\rm SO}^{*}(2n){\rm Sp}(1)$-structure for arbitrary $n>1$. Moreover, we prove that any homogeneous quaternionic skew-Hermitian manifold is necessarily a symmetric space.

Submanifolds of almost quaternionic skew-Hermitian manifolds

We investigate several classes of submanifolds of almost quaternionic skew-Hermitian manifolds $(M^{4n}, Q, ω)$, including almost symplectic, almost complex, almost pseudo-Hermitian and almost quaternionic submanifolds. In the torsion-free case, we realize each type of submanifold considered in the theoretical part by constructing explicit examples of submanifolds of semisimple quaternionic skew-Hermitian symmetric spaces.

Irreducible Killing and conformal Killing tensors on homogeneous plane waves

This paper presents a classification of irreducible Killing and conformal Killing 2-tensors on homogeneous plane waves, a specific class of Lorentzian metrics on four-dimensional manifolds. Using the framework of BGG operators, we derive explicit formulae for these tensors and identify the conditions under which they exist.

Defining equations of $7$-dimensional model CR hypersurfaces

We study CR hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{C}^4$ that are Levi degenerate with constant rank Levi form, and moreover finitely nondegenerate. Each of these can be described as a deformation of a model CR hypersurface by adding terms of higher natural weighted order to the model's defining equation. We obtain a complete normal form for models of real analytic uniformly $2$-nondegenerate CR hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{C}^4$, and present a detailed study of their local invariants. The normal form illustrates that $2$-nondegenerate models in $\mathbb{C}^4$ comprise a moduli space parameterized by two univariate holomorphic functions, which is in sharp contrast to the well known Levi-nondegenerate setting and the more recently discovered behavior of $2$-nondegenerate structures in $\mathbb{C}^3$. In further contrast to these previously studied settings, we demonstrate that not all $2$-nondegenerate structures in $\mathbb{C}^4$ arise as perturbations of homogeneous models. We derive defining equations for the homogeneous $2$-nondegenerate models, a set of $9$ structures, and find explicit formulas for their infinitesimal symmetries.

Models of $2$-nondegenerate CR hypersurface in $\mathbb{C}^N$

We show that every point in a uniformly $2$-nondegenerate CR hypersurface is canonically associated with a model $2$-nondegenerate structure. The $2$-nondegenerate models are basic CR invariants playing the same fundamental role as quadrics do in the Levi nondegenerate case. We characterize all $2$-nondegenerate models and show that the moduli space of such hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{C}^N$ is infinite dimensional for each $N>3$. We derive a normal form for these models' defining equations that is unique up to an action of a finite dimensional Lie group. We generalize recently introduced CR invariants termed modified symbols, and show how to compute these intrinsically defined invariants from a model's defining equation. We show that these models automatically possess infinitesimal symmetries spanning a complement to their Levi kernel and derive explicit formulas for them.

Curvature of quaternionic skew-Hermitian manifolds and bundle constructions

This articles is devoted to a description of the second-order differential geometry of torsion-free almost quaternionic skew-Hermitian manifolds, that is, of quaternionic skew-Hermitian manifolds $(M, Q, ω)$. We provide a curvature characterization of such integrable geometric structures, based on the holonomy theory of symplectic connections and we study qualitative properties of the induced Ricci tensor. Then we proceed with bundle constructions over such a manifold $(M, Q, ω)$. In particular, we prove the existence of almost hypercomplex skew-Hermitian structures on the Swann bundle over $M$ and investigate their integrability.

The gap phenomenon for conformally related Einstein metrics

We determine the submaximal dimensions of the spaces of almost Einstein scales and normal conformal Killing fields for connected conformal manifolds. The results depend on the signature and dimension $n$ of the conformally nonflat conformal manifold. In the Riemannian case, these two dimensions are at most $n-3$ and $\frac{(n-4)(n-3)}{2}$, respectively. In the Lorentzian case, these two dimensions are at most $n-2$ and $\frac{(n-3)(n-2)}{2}$, respectively. In the remaining signatures, these two dimensions are at most $n-1$ and $\frac{(n-2)(n-1)}{2}$, respectively. This upper bound is sharp and to realize examples of submaximal dimensions, we first provide them directly in dimension 4. In higher dimensions, we construct the submaximal examples as the (warped) product of the (pseudo)-Euclidean base of dimension $n-4$ with one of the 4-dimensional submaximal examples.

Differential geometry of ${\mathsf{SO}}^{\ast}(2n)$-type structures -- Integrability

We study almost hypercomplex skew-Hermitian structures and almost quaternionic skew-Hermitian structures, as the geometric structures underlying $\mathsf{SO}^\ast(2n)$- and $\mathsf{SO}^\ast(2n)\mathsf{Sp}(1)$-structures, respectively. The corresponding intrinsic torsions were computed in the previous article in this series, and the algebraic types of the geometries were derived, together with the minimal adapted connections (with respect to certain normalizations conditions). Here we use these results to present the related first-order integrability conditions in terms of the algebraic types and other constructions. In particular, we use distinguished connections to provide a more geometric interpretation of the presented integrability conditions and highlight some features of certain classes. The second main contribution of this note is the illustration of several specific types of such geometries via a variety of examples. We use the bundle of Weyl structures and describe examples of $\mathsf{SO}^\ast(2n)\mathsf{Sp}(1)$-structures in terms of functorial constructions in the context of parabolic geometries.

First BGG operators on homogeneous conformal geometries

We study first BGG operators and their solutions on homogeneous conformal geometries. We focus on conformal Killing tensors, conformal Killing--Yano forms and twistor spinors in particular. We develop an invariant calculus that allows us to find solutions explicitly using only algebraic computations. We also discuss applications to holonomy reductions and conserved quantities of conformal circles. We demonstrate our result on examples of homogeneous conformal geometries coming mostly from general relativity.

Differential geometry of $\mathsf{SO}^\ast(2n)$-type structures

We study $4n$-dimensional smooth manifolds admitting a $\mathsf{SO}^*(2n)$- or a $\mathsf{SO}^*(2n)\mathsf{Sp}(1)$-structure, where $\mathsf{SO}^*(2n)$ is the quaternionic real form of $\mathsf{SO}(2n, \mathbb{C})$. We show that such $G$-structures, called almost hypercomplex/quaternionic skew-Hermitian structures, form the symplectic analogue of the better known almost hypercomplex/quaternionic-Hermitian structures (hH/qH for short). We present several equivalent definitions of $\mathsf{SO}^*(2n)$- and $\mathsf{SO}^*(2n)\mathsf{Sp}(1)$-structures in terms of almost symplectic forms compatible with an almost hypercomplex/quaternionic structure, a quaternionic skew-Hermitian form, or a symmetric 4-tensor, the latter establishing the counterpart of the fundamental 4-form in almost hH/qH geometries. The intrinsic torsion of such structures is presented in terms of Salamon's $\mathsf{E}\mathsf{H}$-formalism, and the algebraic types of the corresponding geometries are classified. We construct explicit adapted connections to our $G$-structures and specify certain normalization conditions, under which these connections become minimal. Finally, we present the classification of symmetric spaces $K/L$ with $K$ semisimple admitting an invariant torsion-free $\mathsf{SO}^*(2n)\mathsf{Sp}(1)$-structure. This paper is the first in a series aiming at the description of the differential geometry of $\mathsf{SO}^*(2n)$- and $\mathsf{SO}^*(2n)\mathsf{Sp}(1)$-structures.

First BGG operators via homogeneous examples

We review the theory of first BGG operators and study how to approach them and find their solution on homogeneous geometries. We provide many new examples of parabolic geometries that admit solutions of first BGG operators with many interesting properties and interpretations.

Construction of counterexamples to the $2-$jet determination Chern-Moser Theorem in higher codimension

We first construct a counterexample of a generic quadratic submanifold of codimension $5$ in $\Bbb C^9$ which admits a real analytic infinitesimal CR automorphism with homogeneous polynomial coefficients of degree $4.$ This example also resolves a question in the Tanaka prolongation theory that was open for more than 50 years. Then we give sufficient conditions to generate more counterexamples to the $2-$jet determination Chern-Moser Theorem in higher codimension. In particular, we construct examples of generic quadratic submanifolds with jet determination of arbitrarily high order.

Fundamental invariants of 2--nondegenerate CR geometries with simple models

This article studies the fundamental invariants of 2--nondegenerate CR geometries with simple models. We show that there are two sources of these invariants. The first source is the harmonic curvature of the parabolic geometry that appears (locally) on the leaf space of the Levi kernel. The second source is the difference between the complex structure on the complex tangent space of the CR geometry and the complex structure on the correspondence space to the underlying parabolic geometry. We show that the later fundamental invariants appear only when the model is generic and if they vanish, then the solution of the local equivalence problem of 2--nondegenerate CR geometries with simple models is provided by the Cartan connection of the underlying parabolic geometry. We show that nontrivial examples of CR geometries with the later fundamental invariants can be obtained as deformations of the models.

On equivalence problem for 2--nondegenerate CR geometries with simple models

In this article, we solve the equivalence problem for 2--nondegenerate CR geometries that have (at every point) a homogeneous space $G/H$ as a maximally symmetric model for $G$ simple real Lie group of CR automorphisms. This completes the classification of real submanifolds in complex space that are maximally symmetric models with a real simple CR automorphism group. In particular, we construct (local) embeddings of these models into complex space.

On symmetric CR geometries of hypersurface type

We study non-degenerate CR geometries of hypersurface type that are symmetric in the sense that, at each point, there is a CR transformation reversing the CR distribution at that point. We show that such geometries are either flat or homogeneous. We show that non-flat non-degenerate symmetric CR geometries of hypersurface type are covered by CR geometries with a compatible pseudo-Riemannian metric preserved by all symmetries. We construct examples of simply connected flat non-degenerate symmetric CR geometries of hypersurface type that do not carry a pseudo-Riemannian metric compatible with the symmetries.

Almost conformally almost Fedosov structures

We study the relations between the projective and the almost conformally symplectic structures on a smooth even dimensional manifold. We describe these relations by a single almost conformally symplectic connection with totally trace--free torsion sharing the geodesics (up to parametrization) with the projective class. This connection generalizes a (conformally) Fedosov structure depending on the remaining torsion of this distinguished connection. In fact, we see these structures as the almost symplectic analogy of the conformal Riemannian structures, because there is an analogy of the class of Weyl connections on the conformal Riemannian structure. Moreover, such a class encodes the variability of the connections in a projective class. The distinguished connection trivializes such a class of Weyl connection. There is a description these geometric structures as Cartan geometries that generalizes the description of projective and conformal Riemannian structures as parabolic geometries. This makes possible to construct an analogy of the so--called Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand sequences and Bernstein-Gelfand-Gelfand complexes.

Local Generalized Symmetries and Locally Symmetric Parabolic Geometries

We investigate (local) automorphisms of parabolic geometries that generalize geodesic symmetries. We show that many types of parabolic geometries admit at most one generalized geodesic symmetry at a point with non-zero harmonic curvature. Moreover, we show that if there is exactly one symmetry at each point, then the parabolic geometry is a generalization of an affine (locally) symmetric space.

Geometric properties of homogeneous parabolic geometries with generalized symmetries

We investigate geometric properties of homogeneous parabolic geometries with generalized symmetries. We show that they can be reduced to a simpler geometric structures and interpret them explicitly. For specific types of parabolic geometries, we prove that the reductions correspond to known generalizations of symmetric spaces. In addition, we illustrate our results on an explicit example and provide a complete classification of possible non--trivial cases.
