A Gaudin-like determinant for overlaps of Néel and XXZ Bethe states

We derive a determinant expression for overlaps of Bethe states of the XXZ spin chain with the N{é}el state, the ground state of the system in the antiferromagnetic Ising limit. Our formula, of determinant form, is valid for generic system size. Interestingly, it is remarkably similar to the well-known Gaudin formula for the norm of Bethe states, and to another recently-derived overlap formula appearing in the Lieb-Liniger model.

Solution for an interaction quench in the Lieb-Liniger Bose gas

We study a quench protocol where the ground state of a free many-particle bosonic theory in one dimension is let unitarily evolve in time under the integrable Lieb-Liniger Hamiltonian of $δ$-interacting repulsive bosons. By using a recently-proposed variational method, we here obtain the exact non-thermal steady-state of the system in the thermodynamic limit, and discuss some of its main physical properties. Besides being a rare case of a thermodynamically exact solution to a truly interacting quench situation, this interestingly represents an example where a naive implementation of the generalized Gibbs ensemble fails.

Finite temperature correlations in the Lieb-Liniger 1D Bose gas

We address the problem of calculating finite-temperature response functions of an experimentally relevant low-dimensional strongly-correlated system: the integrable 1D Bose gas with repulsive δ-function interaction (Lieb-Liniger model). Focusing on the observable dynamical density-density function, we present a Bethe Ansatz-based method allowing for its accurate evaluation over a broad range of momenta, frequencies, temperatures and interaction parameters, in finite but large systems. We show how thermal fluctuations smoothen the zero temperature critical behavior and present explicit quantitative results in experimentally accessible regimes.

Computation of dynamical correlation functions of the spin-1 Babujan-Takhtajan chain

The dynamical structure factor of the Babujan-Takhtajan antiferromagnetic spin-1 chain is computed numerically at zero temperature and zero magnetic field, using the higher-spin generalization of an Algebraic Bethe Ansatz-based method previously used for spin-1/2 integrable chains. This method, which consists in the explicit construction of eigenstates and the summation of the Lehmann representation of the correlator, is here particularly challenging to implement in view of the presence of strongly deviated string solutions to the Bethe equations. We show that a careful treatment of these deviations makes it possible to obtain perfect saturation of sum rules for small system sizes, and extremely good saturation for large system sizes where the dynamical structure factor is computed by including all two-spinon and four-spinon contributions. The real-space spin-spin correlation, obtained by Fourier transforming our results, displays asymptotics fitting predictions from conformal field theory.

Constructing the generalized Gibbs ensemble after a quantum quench

Using a numerical renormalization group based on exploiting an underlying exactly solvable non- relativistic theory, we study the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of a 1D Bose gas (as described by the Lieb-Liniger model) released from a parabolic trap. Our method allows us to track the post-quench dynamics of the gas all the way to infinite time. We also exhibit a general construction, applicable to all integrable models, of the thermodynamic ensemble that has been suggested to govern this dynamics, the generalized Gibbs ensemble. We compare the predictions of equilibration from this ensemble against the long time dynamics observed using our method.

Metastable criticality and the super Tonks-Girardeau gas

We consider a 1D Bose gas with attractive interactions in an out-of-equilibrium highly excited state containing no bound states. We show that relaxation processes in the gas are suppressed, making the system metastable on long timescales. We compute dynamical correlation functions, revealing the structure of excitations, an enhancement of umklapp correlations and new branches due to intermediate bound states. These features give a clear indication of the attractive regime and can be probed experimentally. We observe that, despite its out-of-equilibrium nature, the system displays critical behaviour: correlation functions are characterised by asymptotic power-law decay described by the Luttinger liquid framework.

Exact time evolution of space- and time-dependent correlation functions after an interaction quench in the 1D Bose gas

We consider the non-equilibrium dynamics of the interacting Lieb-Liniger gas after instantaneously switching the interactions off. The subsequent time evolution of the space- and time-dependent correlation functions is computed exactly. Different relaxation behavior is observed for different correlation functions. The long time average is compared with the predictions of several statistical ensembles. The generalized Gibbs ensemble restricted to a fixed number of particles is shown to give correct results at large times for all length scales.

Generalized TBA and generalized Gibbs

We consider the extension of the thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA) to cases in which additional terms involving higher conserved charges are added to the Hamiltonian, or in which a distinction is made between the Hamiltonian used for time evolution and that used for defining the density matrix. Writing down equations describing the saddle-point (pseudo-equilibrium) state of the infinite system, we prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions for Lieb-Liniger provided simple requirements are met. We show how a knowledge of the saddle-point rapidity distribution is equivalent to that of all generalized chemical potentials, and how the standard equilibrium equations for e.g. excitations are simply generalized.

Adjacent Spin Operator Dynamical Structure Factor of the S=1/2 Heisenberg Chain

Considering the adjacent spin operators $S^z_jS^z_{j+1}$ and $S^-_jS^-_{j+1}$ in the S=1/2 Heisenberg chain, we give a determinant representation of their form factors. The dynamical structure factors of the respective operators are computed over the whole Brillouin zone in several magnetic fields and the resulting signal is analyzed in terms of excitation types. Among other results, we find that the $S^z_jS^z_{j+1}$ dynamical structure factor carries a large weight of the 4-spinon excitations which are distinguishable from the 2-spinon signal because they are located outside the 2-spinon spectrum.

Exact prefactors in static and dynamic correlation functions of 1D quantum integrable models: applications to the Calogero-Sutherland, Lieb-Liniger and XXZ models

In this article we demonstrate a recently developed technique which addresses the problem of obtaining non-universal prefactors of the correlation functions of 1D systems at zero temperature. Our approach combines the effective field theory description of generic 1D quantum liquids with the finite size scaling of form factors (matrix elements) which are obtained using microscopic techniques developed in the context of integrable models. We thus establish exact analytic forms for the prefactors of the long-distance behavior of equal time correlation functions as well as prefactors of singularities of dynamic response functions. In this article our focus is on three specific integrable models: the Calogero-Sutherland, Lieb-Liniger, and XXZ models.

Nonuniversal prefactors in correlation functions of 1D quantum liquids

We develop a general approach to calculating "nonuniversal" prefactors in static and dynamic correlation functions of 1D quantum liquids at zero temperature, by relating them to the finite size scaling of certain matrix elements (form factors). This represents a new, powerful tool for extracting data valid in the thermodynamic limit from finite-size effects. As the main application, we consider weakly interacting spinless fermions with an arbitrary pair interaction potential, for which we perturbatively calculate certain prefactors in static and dynamic correlation functions. We also non-perturbatively evaluate prefactors of the long-distance behavior of correlation functions for the exactly solvable Lieb-Liniger model of 1D bosons.

Equilibrium thermodynamic properties of interacting two-component bosons in one dimension

The interplay of quantum statistics, interactions and temperature is studied within the framework of the bosonic two-component theory with repulsive delta-function interaction in one dimension. We numerically solve the thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz and obtain the equation of state as a function of temperature and of the interaction strength, the relative chemical potential and either the total chemical potential or a fixed number of particles, allowing to quantify the full crossover behaviour of the system between its low-temperature ferromagnetic and high-temperature unpolarized regime, and from the low coupling decoherent regime to the fermionization regime at high interaction.

Geometric quenches in quantum integrable systems

We consider the generic problem of suddenly changing the geometry of an integrable, one-dimensional many-body quantum system. We show how the physics of an initial quantum state released into a bigger system can be completely described within the framework of the Algebraic Bethe Ansatz, by providing an exact decomposition of the initial state into the eigenstate basis of the system after such a geometric quench. Our results, applicable to a large class of models including the Lieb-Liniger gas and Heisenberg spin chains, thus offer a reliable framework for the calculation of time-dependent expectation values and correlations in this nonequilibrium situation.

Relaxation dynamics in the gapped XXZ spin-1/2 chain

We study the dynamics of a quench-prepared domain wall state released into a system whose unitary time evolution is dictated by the Hamiltonian of the Heisenberg spin-1/2 gapped antiferromagnetic chain. Using exact wavefunctions and their overlaps with the domain wall state allows us to describe the release dynamics to high accuracy, up to the long-time limit, for finite as well as infinite systems. The results for the infinite system allow us to rigorously prove that the system in the gapped regime ($Δ>1$) cannot thermalize in the strict sense.

Bethe Ansatz approach to quench dynamics in the Richardson model

By instantaneously changing a global parameter in an extended quantum system, an initially equilibrated state will afterwards undergo a complex non-equilibrium unitary evolution whose description is extremely challenging. A non-perturbative method giving a controlled error in the long time limit remained highly desirable to understand general features of the quench induced quantum dynamics. In this paper we show how integrability (via the algebraic Bethe ansatz) gives one numerical access, in a nearly exact manner, to the dynamics resulting from a global interaction quench of an ensemble of fermions with pairing interactions (Richardson's model). This possibility is deeply linked to the specific structure of this particular integrable model which gives simple expressions for the scalar product of eigenstates of two different Hamiltonians. We show how, despite the fact that a sudden quench can create excitations at any frequency, a drastic truncation of the Hilbert space can be carried out therefore allowing access to large systems. The small truncation error which results does not change with time and consequently the method grants access to a controlled description of the long time behavior which is a hard to reach limit with other numerical approaches.

How to calculate correlation functions of Heisenberg chains

We describe a method for calculating dynamical spin-spin correlation functions in the finite isotropic and anisotropic antiferromagnetic Heisenberg models. Our method is able to produce results with high accuracy over the full parameter space.
