A Boundedness Criterion for Singular Integral Operators of convolution type on the Fock Space

We show that for an entire function $φ$ belonging to the Fock space ${\mathscr F}^2(\mathbb{C}^n)$ on the complex Euclidean space $\mathbb{C}^n$, the integral operator \begin{eqnarray*} S_φF(z)=\int_{\mathbb{C}^n} F(w) e^{z \cdot\bar{w}} φ(z- \bar{w})\,dλ(w), \ \ \ \ \ z\in \mathbb{C}^n, \end{eqnarray*} is bounded on ${\mathscr F}^2(\mathbb{C}^n)$ if and only if there exists a function $m\in L^{\infty}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ such that $$ φ(z)=\int_{\mathbb{R}^n} m(x)e^{-2\left(x-\frac{i}{2} z \right)\cdot \left(x-\frac{i}{2} z \right)} dx, \ \ \ \ \ \ z\in \mathbb{C}^n. $$ Here $dλ(w)= π^{-n}e^{-\left\vert w\right\vert^2}dw$ is the Gaussian measure on $\mathbb C^n$. With this characterization we are able to obtain some fundamental results including the normaility, the algebraic property, spectrum and compactness of this operator $S_φ$. Moreover, we obtain the reducing subspaces of $S_φ$. In particular, in the case $n=1$, we give a complete solution to an open problem proposed by K. Zhu for the Fock space ${\mathscr F}^2(\mathbb{C})$ on the complex plane ${\mathbb C}$ (Integr. Equ. Oper. Theory {\bf 81} (2015), 451--454).

Spectral stability of smooth solitary waves for the Degasperis-Procesi Equation

The Degasperis-Procesi equation is an approximating model of shallow-water wave propagating mainly in one direction to the Euler equations. Such a model equation is analogous to the Camassa-Holm approximation of the two-dimensional incompressible and irrotational Euler equations with the same asymptotic accuracy, and is integrable with the bi-Hamiltonian structure. In the present study, we establish existence and spectral stability results of localized smooth solitons to the Degasperis-Procesi equation on the real line. The stability proof relies essentially on refined spectral analysis of the linear operator corresponding to the second-order variational derivative of the Hamiltonian of the Degasperis-Procesi equation.

Conformal and CR mappings on Carnot groups

We consider a class of stratified groups with a CR structure and a compatible control distance. For these Lie groups we show that the space of conformal maps coincide with the space of CR and anti-CR diffeomorphisms. Furthermore, we prove that on products of such groups, all CR and anti-CR maps are product maps, up to a permutation isomorphism, and affine in each component.

Solving Phase Retrieval via Graph Projection Splitting

Phase retrieval with prior information can be cast as a nonsmooth and nonconvex optimization problem. We solve the problem by graph projection splitting (GPS), where the two proximity subproblems and the graph projection step can be solved efficiently. With slight modification, we also propose a robust graph projection splitting (RGPS) method to stabilize the iteration for noisy measurements. Contrary to intuition, RGPS outperforms GPS with fewer iterations to locate a satisfying solution even for noiseless case. Based on the connection between GPS and Douglas-Rachford iteration, under mild conditions on the sampling vectors, we analyze the fixed point sets and provide the local convergence of GPS and RGPS applied to noiseless phase retrieval without prior information. For noisy case, we provide the error bound of the reconstruction. Compared to other existing methods, thanks for the splitting approach, GPS and RGPS can efficiently solve phase retrieval with prior information regularization for general sampling vectors which are not necessarily isometric. For Gaussian phase retrieval, compared to existing gradient flow approaches, numerical results show that GPS and RGPS are much less sensitive to the initialization. Thus they markedly improve the phase transition in noiseless case and reconstruction in the presence of noise respectively. GPS shows sharpest phase transition among existing methods including RGPS, while it needs more iterations than RGPS when the number of measurement is large enough. RGPS outperforms GPS in terms of stability for noisy measurements. When applying RGPS to more general non-Gaussian measurements with prior information, such as support, sparsity and TV minimization, RGPS either outperforms state-of-the-art solvers or can be combined with state-of-the-art solvers to improve their reconstruction quality.

Commutators of Cauchy--Szegő type integrals for domains in $\mathbb C^n$ with minimal smoothness

In this paper we study the commutator of Cauchy type integrals $\EuScript C$ on a bounded strongly pseudoconvex domain $D$ in $\mathbb C^n$ with boundary $bD$ satisfying the minimum regularity condition $C^{2}$ as in the recent result of Lanzani--Stein. We point out that in this setting the Cauchy type integrals $\EuScript C$ is the sum of the essential part $\EuScript C^\sharp$ which is a Calderón--Zygmund operator and a remainder $\EuScript R$ which is no longer a Calderón--Zygmund operator. We show that the commutator $[b, \EuScript C]$ is bounded on $L^p(bD)$ ($1<p<\infty$) if {\color{black}and only if}\ $b$ is in the BMO space on $bD$. Moreover, the commutator $[b, \EuScript C]$ is compact on $L^p(bD)$ ($1<p<\infty$) if {\color{black}and only if}\ $b$ is in the VMO space on $bD$. Our method can also be applied to the commutator of Cauchy--Leray integral in a bounded, strongly $\mathbb C$-linearly convex domain $D$ in $\mathbb C^n$ with the boundary $bD$ satisfying the minimum regularity $C^{1,1}$. Such a Cauchy--Leray integral is a Calderón--Zygmund operator as proved in the recent result of Lanzani--Stein. We also point out that our method provides another proof of the boundedness and compactness of commutator of Cauchy--Szeg\H o operator on a bounded strongly pseudoconvex domain $D$ in $\mathbb C^n$ with smooth boundary (first established by Krantz--Li).

Commutators of Hilbert transforms along monomial curves

The Hilbert transforms associated with monomial curves have a natural non-isotropic structure. We study the commutator of such Hilbert transforms and a symbol $b$ and prove the upper bound of this commutator when $b$ is in the corresponding non-isotropic BMO space by using the Cauchy integral trick. We also consider the lower bound of this commutator by introducing a new testing BMO space associated with the given monomial curve, which shows that the classical non-isotropic BMO space is contained in the testing BMO space. We also show that the non-zero curvature of such monomial curves are important, since when considering Hilbert transforms associated with lines, the parallel version of non-isotropic BMO space and testing BMO space have overlaps but do not have containment.

An explicit formula of Cauchy--Szegö kernel for quaternionic Siegel upper half space and applications

In this paper we obtain an explicit formula of Cauchy--Szegö kernel for quaternionic Siegel upper half space, and then based on this, we prove that the Cauchy--Szegö projection on quaternionic Heisenberg group is a Calderón--Zygmund operator via verifying the size and regularity conditions for the kernel. Next, we also obtain a suitable version of pointwise lower bound for the kernel, which further implies the characterisations of the boundedness and compactness of commutator of the Cauchy--Szegö operator via the BMO and VMO spaces on quaternionic Heisenberg group, respectively.

BMO spaces associated to operators with generalised Poisson bounds on non-doubling manifolds with ends

Consider a non-doubling manifold with ends $M = \mathfrak{R}^{n}\sharp\, {\mathbb R}^{m}$ where $\mathfrak{R}^n=\mathbb{R}^n\times \mathbb{S}^{m-n}$ for $m> n \ge 3$. We say that an operator $L$ has a generalised Poisson kernel if $\sqrt{ L}$ generates a semigroup $e^{-t\sqrt{L}}$ whose kernel $p_t(x,y)$ has an upper bound similar to the kernel of $e^{-t\sqrtΔ}$ where $Δ$ is the Laplace-Beltrami operator on $M$. An example for operators with generalised Gaussian bounds is the Schrödinger operator $L = Δ+ V$ where $V$ is an arbitrary non-negative locally integrable potential. In this paper, our aim is to introduce the BMO space ${\rm BMO}_L(M)$ associated to operators with generalised Poisson bounds which serves as an appropriate setting for certain singular integrals with rough kernels to be bounded from $L^{\infty}(M)$ into this new ${\rm BMO}_L(M)$. On our ${\rm BMO}_L(M)$ spaces, we show that the John--Nirenberg inequality holds and we show an interpolation theorem for a holomorphic family of operators which interpolates between $L^q(M)$ and ${\rm BMO}_L(M)$. As an application, we show that the holomorphic functional calculus $m(\sqrt{L})$ is bounded from $L^{\infty}(M)$ into ${\rm BMO}_L(M)$, and bounded on $L^p(M)$ for $1 < p < \infty$.

Weak type $(1,1)$ bounds for Schrödinger groups

Let $L$ be a non-negative self-adjoint operator acting on $L^2(X)$ where $X$ is a space of homogeneous type with a dimension $n$. Suppose that the heat kernel of $L$ satisfies a Gaussian upper bound. It is known that the operator $(I+L)^{-s } e^{itL}$ is bounded on $L^p(X)$ for $s> n|{1/ 2}-{1/p}| $ and $ p\in (1, \infty)$ (see for example, \cite{CCO, H, Sj}). The index $s= n|{1/ 2}-{1/p}|$ was only obtained recently in \cite{CDLY, CDLY2}, and this range of $s$ is sharp since it is precisely the range known in the case when $L$ is the Laplace operator $Δ$ on $X=\mathbb R^n$ (\cite{Mi1}). In this paper we establish that for $p=1,$ the operator $(1+L)^{-n/2}e^{itL}$ is of weak type $(1, 1)$, that is, there is a constant $C$, independent of $t$ and $f$ so that \begin{eqnarray*} μ\Big(\Big\{x: \big|(I+L)^{-n/2 }e^{itL} f(x)\big|>λ\Big\}\Big) \leq Cλ^{-1}(1+|t|)^{n/2} {\|f\|_{L^1(X)} }, \ \ \ t\in{\mathbb R} \end{eqnarray*} (for $λ> 0$ when $μ(X) = \infty$ and $λ>μ(X)^{-1}\|f\|_{L^1(X)}$ when $μ(X) < \infty$). Moreover, we also show the index $n/2$ is sharp when $L$ is the Laplacian on ${\mathbb R^n}$ by providing an example. Our results are applicable to Schrödinger group for large classes of operators including elliptic operators on compact manifolds, Schrödinger operators with non-negative potentials and Laplace operators acting on Lie groups of polynomial growth or irregular non-doubling domains of Euclidean spaces.

Scalable Incremental Nonconvex Optimization Approach for Phase Retrieval

We aim to find a solution $\bm{x}\in\mathbb{C}^n$ to a system of quadratic equations of the form $b_i=\lvert\bm{a}_i^*\bm{x}\rvert^2$, $i=1,2,\ldots,m$, e.g., the well-known NP-hard phase retrieval problem. As opposed to recently proposed state-of-the-art nonconvex methods, we revert to the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) PhaseLift convex formulation and propose a successive and incremental nonconvex optimization algorithm, termed as \texttt{IncrePR}, to indirectly minimize the resulting convex problem on the cone of positive semidefinite matrices. Our proposed method overcomes the excessive computational cost of typical SDP solvers as well as the need of a good initialization for typical nonconvex methods. For Gaussian measurements, which is usually needed for provable convergence of nonconvex methods, \texttt{IncrePR} with restart strategy outperforms state-of-the-art nonconvex solvers with a sharper phase transition of perfect recovery and typical convex solvers in terms of computational cost and storage. For more challenging structured (non-Gaussian) measurements often occurred in real applications, such as transmission matrix and oversampling Fourier transform, \texttt{IncrePR} with several restarts can be used to find a good initial guess. With further refinement by local nonconvex solvers, one can achieve a better solution than that obtained by applying nonconvex solvers directly when the number of measurements is relatively small. Extensive numerical tests are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Frame decomposition and radial maximal semigroup characterization of Hardy spaces associated to operators

Let $L$ be the generator of an analytic semigroup whose kernels satisfy Gaussian upper bounds and Hölder's continuity. Also assume that $L$ has a bounded holomorphic functional calculus on $L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$. In this paper, we construct a frame decomposition for the functions belonging to the Hardy space $H_{L}^{1}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ associated to $L$, and for functions in the Lebesgue spaces $L^p$, $1<p<\infty$. We then show that the corresponding $H_{L}^{1}(\mathbb{R}^n)$-norm (resp. $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$-norm) of a function $f$ in terms of the frame coefficients is equivalent to the $H_{L}^{1}(\mathbb{R}^n)$-norm (resp. $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$-norm) of $f$. As an application of the frame decomposition, we establish the radial maximal semigroup characterization of the Hardy space $H_{L}^{1}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ under the extra condition of Gaussian upper bounds on the gradient of the heat kernels of $L$.

The Two-Weight Inequality for the Poisson Operator in the Bessel Setting

Fix $λ>0$. Consider the Bessel operator $Δ_λ:=-\frac{d^2}{dx^2}-\frac{2λ}{x}\frac d{dx}$ on $\mathbb{R}_+:=(0,\infty)$ and the harmonic conjugacy introduced by Muckenhoupt and Stein. We provide the two-weight inequality for the Poisson operator $\mathsf{P}^{[λ]}_t=e^{-t\sqrt{Δ_λ}}$ in this Bessel setting. In particular, we prove that for a measure $μ$ on $\mathbb{R}^2_{+,+}:=(0,\infty)\times (0,\infty)$ and $σ$ on $\mathbb{R}_+$: $$ \|\mathsf{P}^{[λ]}_σ(f)\|_{L^2(\mathbb{R}^2_{+,+};μ)} \lesssim \|f\|_{L^2(\mathbb{R}_+;σ)}, $$ if and only if testing conditions hold for the the Poisson operator and its adjoint. Further, the norm of the operator is shown to be equivalent to the best constant in the testing conditions.

A note on weak factorization of Meyer-type Hardy space via Cauchy integral operator

This paper provides a weak factorization for the Meyer-type Hardy space $H^1_b(\mathbb{R})$, and characterizations of its dual ${\rm BMO}_b(\mathbb{R})$ and its predual ${\rm VMO}_b(\mathbb{R})$ via boundedness and compactness of a suitable commutator with the Cauchy integral $\mathscr{C}_Γ$, respectively. Here $b(x)=1+iA'(x)$ where $A'\in L^{\infty}(\mathbb{R})$, and the Cauchy integral $\mathscr{C}_Γ$ is associated to the Lipschitz curve $Γ=\{x+iA(x)\, : \, x\in \mathbb{R}\}$.

Variation of Calderón--Zygmund Operators with Matrix Weight

Let $p\in(1,\infty)$, $ρ\in (2, \infty)$ and $W$ be a matrix $A_p$ weight. In this article, we introduce a version of variation $\mathcal{V}_ρ({\mathcal T_n}_{\,,\,\ast})$ for matrix Calderón--Zygmund operators with modulus of continuity satisfying the Dini condition. We then obtain the $L^p(W)$-boundedness of $\mathcal{V}_ρ({\mathcal T_n}_{\,,\,\ast})$ with norm \begin{align*} \|\mathcal{V}_ρ({\mathcal T_n}_{\,,\,\ast})\|_{L^p(W)\to L^p(W)}\leq C[W]_{A_p}^{1+{1\over p-1} -{1\over p}} \end{align*} by first proving a sparse domination of the variation of the scalar Calderón--Zygmund operator, and then providing a convex body sparse domination of the variation of the matrix Calderón--Zygmund operator. The key step here is a weak type estimate of a local grand maximal truncated operator with respect to the scalar Calderón--Zygmund operator.

Functional calculus of operators with heat kernel bounds on non-doubling manifolds with ends

Let $Δ$ be the Laplace--Beltrami operator acting on a non-doubling manifold with two ends $\mathbb R^m \sharp \mathcal R^n$ with $m > n \ge 3$. Let $\frak{h}_t(x,y)$ be the kernels of the semigroup $e^{-tΔ}$ generated by $Δ$. We say that a non-negative self-adjoint operator $L$ on $L^2(\mathbb R^m \sharp \mathcal R^n)$ has a heat kernel with upper bound of Gaussian type if the kernel $h_t(x,y)$ of the semigroup $e^{-tL}$ satisfies $ h_t(x,y) \le C \frak{h}_{αt}(x,y)$ for some constants $C$ and $α$. This class of operators includes the Schrödinger operator $L = Δ+ V$ where $V$ is an arbitrary non-negative potential. We then obtain upper bounds of the Poisson semigroup kernel of $L$ together with its time derivatives and use them to show the weak type $(1,1)$ estimate for the holomorphic functional calculus $\frak{M}(\sqrt{L})$ where $\frak{M}(z)$ is a function of Laplace transform type. Our result covers the purely imaginary powers $L^{is}, s \in \mathbb R$, as a special case and serves as a model case for weak type $(1,1)$ estimates of singular integrals with non-smooth kernels on non-doubling spaces.

Atomic decomposition of product Hardy spaces via wavelet bases on spaces of homogeneous type

We provide an atomic decomposition of the product Hardy spaces $H^p(\widetilde{X})$ which were recently developed by Han, Li, and Ward in the setting of product spaces of homogeneous type $\widetilde{X} = X_1 \times X_2$. Here each factor $(X_i,d_i,μ_i)$, for $i = 1$, $2$, is a space of homogeneous type in the sense of Coifman and Weiss. These Hardy spaces make use of the orthogonal wavelet bases of Auscher and Hytönen and their underlying reference dyadic grids. However, no additional assumptions on the quasi-metric or on the doubling measure for each factor space are made. To carry out this program, we introduce product $(p,q)$-atoms on $\widetilde{X}$ and product atomic Hardy spaces $H^{p,q}_{\rm at}(\widetilde{X})$. As consequences of the atomic decomposition of $H^p(\widetilde{X})$, we show that for all $q > 1$ the product atomic Hardy spaces coincide with the product Hardy spaces, and we show that the product Hardy spaces are independent of the particular choices of both the wavelet bases and the reference dyadic grids. Likewise, the product Carleson measure spaces ${\rm CMO}^p(\widetilde{X})$, the bounded mean oscillation space ${\rm BMO}(\widetilde{X})$, and the vanishing mean oscillation space ${\rm VMO}(\widetilde{X})$, as defined by Han, Li, and Ward, are also independent of the particular choices of both wavelets and reference dyadic grids.

$A_p$ weights and Quantitative Estimates in the Schrödinger Setting

Suppose $L=-Δ+V$ is a Schrödinger operator on $\mathbb{R}^n$ with a potential $V$ belonging to certain reverse Hölder class $RH_σ$ with $σ\geq n/2$. The aim of this paper is to study the $A_p$ weights associated to $L$, denoted by $A_p^L$, which is a larger class than the classical Muckenhoupt $A_p$ weights. We first establish the "exp--log" link between $A_p^L$ and $BMO_L$ (the BMO space associated with $L$), which is the first extension of the classical result to a setting beyond the Laplace operator. Second, we prove the quantitative $A_p^L$ bound for the maximal function and the maximal heat semigroup associated to $L$. Then we further provide the quantitative $A_{p,q}^L$ bound for the fractional integral operator associated to $L$. We point out that all these quantitative bounds are known before in terms of the classical $A_{p,q}$ constant. However, since $A_{p,q}\subset A_{p,q}^L$, the $A_{p,q}^L$ constants are smaller than $A_{p,q}$ constant. Hence, our results here provide a better quantitative constant for maximal functions and fractional integral operators associated to $L$.

Two weight commutators on spaces of homogeneous type and applications

In this paper, we establish the two weight commutator of Calderón--Zygmund operators in the sense of Coifman--Weiss on spaces of homogeneous type, by studying the weighted Hardy and BMO space for $A_2$ weight and by proving the sparse operator domination of commutators. The main tool here is the Haar basis and the adjacent dyadic systems on spaces of homogeneous type, and the construction of a suitable version of a sparse operator on spaces of homogeneous type. As applications, we provide a two weight commutator theorem (including the high order commutator) for the following Calderón--Zygmund operators: Cauchy integral operator on $\mathbb R$, Cauchy--Szegö projection operator on Heisenberg groups, Szegö projection operators on a family of unbounded weakly pseudoconvex domains, Riesz transform associated with the sub-Laplacian on stratified Lie groups, as well as the Bessel Riesz transforms (one-dimension and high dimension).
