The $Λ_{b} \to Λ$ transition form factors in perturbative QCD approach

In this work, we investigate the $Λ_b \to Λ$ transition form factors in the perturbative QCD (PQCD) approach, incorporating higher-twist light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs). The resulted form factors show that higher-twist LCDAs are dominant numerically. By combining our PQCD predictions at low-$q^2$ with lattice QCD results at high-$q^2$, $z$-series expansion fits are performed to parametrize the form factors over the full kinematic range. We also provide the prediction for physical observables in the rare decay $Λ_b \to Λμ^+ μ^-$, including the differential branching fraction, dilepton longitudinal polarization fraction, and forward-backward asymmetries (lepton-side, hadron-side, and combined lepton-hadron). Our obtained form factors are consistent with those in other theoretical methods within the uncertainties.

Tomography of high-twist proton structure through $ep$ elastic scattering

We present the first high-twist study of the proton form factors $F_{1,2}(Q^2)$ in $ep$ elastic scattering based on the perturbative QCD $k_T$ factorization, $Q^2$ being momentum transfer squared. It is motivated by unexpectedly large higher-power contributions from subleading-twist light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs), which are attributed to the enhancement in endpoint regions of parton momentum fractions. We highlight that the endpoint enhancement, tamed by the $k_T$ resummation effect, is crucial for accommodating the approximate scaling behavior of the $Q^4F_1(Q^2)$ data at intermediate $Q^2\sim {\cal O}(10)$ GeV$^2$. The proton LCDAs up to twist 6 are then extracted, and verified by the charge-parity asymmetries observed in hadronic heavy baryon decays. Our work provides new insights into the proton three-dimensional structure and manifests the precision requirement for reliable perturbative analyses of baryonic exclusive processes.

$CP$ violation in two-body hadronic $Λ_b$ decays in the PQCD approach

We systematically investigate the $CP$-averaged branching ratios and $CP$ violations (CPVs) for the two-body hadronic decays $Λ_b\to ph$, where $h$ runs through the mesons $π^-$, $ρ^-$, $a_1^-(1260)$, $K^-$, $K^{\ast -}$, $K_1^-(1270)$ and $K_1^-(1400)$, in the perturbative QCD approach to order $α_s^2$ in the strong coupling. Various topological amplitudes are obtained by incorporating subleading-twist hadron distribution amplitudes, which exhibit reasonable hierarchical patterns, sizable strong phases, and non-negligible higher-power corrections. The predicted direct CPVs in $Λ_b\to pπ^-,pK^-$, different from those in similar $B$ meson decays, are as small as the current data. The low CPV in $Λ_b\to pπ^-$ results from the cancellation between the $S$- and $P$-wave CPVs, while the one in $Λ_b\to pK^-$ is determined by the tiny $S$-wave CPV. However, individual partial-wave CPVs can exceed $10\%$, consistent with direct CPVs in $B$ meson decays. The CPVs in the $Λ_b\to pK_1^-(1270),pK_1^-(1400)$ channels are relatively larger. In particular, CPVs above $20\%$ appear in the up-down asymmetries associated with the final-state angular distributions of $Λ_b\to pK_1^-(1270),pK_1^-(1400)$, followed by the secondary $K_1\to Kππ$ decays. These observables offer promising prospects for firmly establishing baryon CPVs. The decay asymmetry parameters of $Λ_b\to ph$ are also predicted for future experimental confrontations.

Establishing CP Violation in $b$-Baryon Decays

It is a long-standing puzzle why the {\it CP} violation (CPV) in the baryon system has not yet been definitively established as in the meson one. We demonstrate that individual partial-wave CPV in the $Λ_b\to pπ^-$ and $pK^-$ decays can exceed $10\%$, but the destruction between the partial waves (the suppression by the small partial-wave weight) results in a small net direct CPV in the former (the latter) as measured currently. Our finding highlights the different dynamics responsible for CPVs in baryon and meson decays. We propose to probe the CPV observables associated with the angular distributions of the $Λ_b\to pa_1(1260)$, $pK_1(1270)$ decay products, which are large enough for being identified experimentally.

$Λ_b\to p$ transition form factors in perturbative QCD

We reanalyze the $Λ_b\to p$ transition form factors in the perturbative QCD (PQCD) approach by including higher-twist light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs) of a $Λ_b$ baryon and a proton. The previous PQCD evaluation performed decades ago with only the leading-twist $Λ_b$ baryon and proton LCDAs gave the form factors, which are two orders of magnitude smaller than indicated by experimental data. We find that the twist-4 $Λ_b$ baryon LCDAs and the twist-4 and -5 proton LCDAs contribute dominantly, and the enhanced form factors become consistent with those from lattice QCD and other nonperturbative methods. The estimated branching ratios of the semileptonic decays $Λ_b\to p\ell\barν_\ell$ and the hadronic decay $Λ_b\to pπ$ are also close to the data. It implies that the $b$ quark mass is not really heavy enough, and higher-power contributions play a crucial role, similar to the observation made in analyses of $B$ meson transition form factors. With the formalism established in this work, we are ready to study various exclusive heavy baryon decays systematically in the PQCD approach.

Weak decays of bottom-charm baryons: $\mathcal{B}_{bc}\to\mathcal{B}_bP$

After the discovery of the double-charm baryon $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ by LHCb, one of the most important topics is to search for the bottom-charm baryons which contain a $b$ quark, a $c$ quark and a light quark. In this work, we study the two-body non-leptonic weak decays of a bottom-charm baryon into a spin-$1/2$ bottomed baryon and a light pseudoscalar meson with the short-distance contributions calculated under the factorization hypothesis and the long-distance contributions considering the final-state-interaction effects. The branching fractions of all fifty-seven decay channels are estimated. The results indicate that $Ξ_{bc}^+\toΞ_b^0π^+$, $Ξ_{bc}^{0}\toΞ_{b}^{-}π^+$ and $Ω_{bc}^0\toΩ_b^-π^+$ decay modes have relatively large decay rates and thus could be used to experimentally search for the bottom-charm baryons. The topological diagrams and the SU(3) symmetry of bottom-charm baryon decays are discussed.

Rescattering mechanism of weak decays of double-charm baryons

The doubly charmed baryon $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ was recently observed by LHCb via the decay processes of $Ξ_{cc}^{++}\to Λ_c^+ K^-π^+π^+$ and $Ξ_c^+π^+$. These discovery channels were successfully predicted in the framework that the short-distance contributions are calculated under the factorization hypothesis and the long-distance contributions are estimated using the rescattering mechanism for the final-state-interaction effects. In this paper, we illustrate the above framework in details by systematic studies on the two-body baryonic decays $\mathcal{B}_{cc}\to\mathcal{B}_{c}P$ involving the doubly charmed baryons $\mathcal{B}_{cc}=(Ξ_{cc}^{++} , Ξ_{cc}^+,Ω_{cc}^+)$, the singly charmed baryons $\mathcal{B}_{c}=(\mathcal{B}_{\bar{3}}, \mathcal{B}_{6})$ and the light pseudoscalar mesons $P=(π,K,η_{1,8})$.

Branching fractions of $B^-\to D^-X_{0,1}(2900)$ and their implications

The exotic states $X_{0,1}(2900)$ with the quark flavor of $cs\bar{u}\bar{d}$ are recently observed in the mass spectrum of $D^+K^-$ in $B^-\to D^-D^+K^-$ by the LHCb collaboration. To explore the nature of $X_{0,1}(2900)$, except for analyzing their masses and decay widths as usually did in literatures, the study of their production mechanism in $B$-meson weak decays would provide another important information. The amplitude of $B^-\to D^- X_{0,1}$ is non-factorizable. We consider the final-state-interaction effects and calculate them via the rescattering mechanism. The measured branching fractions of $B^-\to D^- X_{0,1}$ are revealed. It is manifested by ${B}^-\to Λ_c^-Ξ_c^{(\prime)0}$ and $Λ_b^0\to P_c^+K^-$ that the rescattering mechanism can result in the relatively large branching fractions. The similar processes of $B^-\to π^-X_{0,1}$ are also analyzed. The isospins of $X_{0,1}$ can be investigated by $B\to DX_{0,1}^{\pm,0}$ decays.
