Statistical properties of physical-like measures

In this paper we consider the semi-continuity of the physical-like measures for diffeomorphisms with dominated splittings. We prove that any weak-* limit of physical-like measures along a sequence of $C^1$ diffeomorphisms $\{f_n\}$ must be a Gibbs $F$-state for the limiting map $f$. As a consequence, we establish the statistical stability for the $C^1$ perturbation of the time-one map of three-dimensional Lorenz attractors, and the continuity of the physical measure for the diffeomorphisms constructed by Bonatti and Viana.

Entropy theory for sectional hyperbolic flows

We use entropy theory as a new tool to study sectional hyperbolic flows in any dimension. We show that for $C^1$ flows, every sectional hyperbolic set $Λ$ is entropy expansive, and the topological entropy varies continuously with the flow. Furthermore, if $Λ$ is Lyapunov stable, then it has positive entropy; in addition, if $Λ$ is a chain recurrent class, then it contains a periodic orbit. As a corollary, we prove that for $C^1$ generic flows, every Lorenz-like class is an attractor.

Classifying expanding attractors on figure eight knot complement space and non-transitive Anosov flows on Franks-Williams manifold

The path closure of figure eight knot complement space, $N_0$, supports a natural DA (derived from Anosov) expanding attractor. Using this attractor, Franks-Williams constructed the first example of non-transitive Anosov flow on the manifold $M_0$ obtained by gluing two copies of $N_0$ through identity map along their boundaries, named by Franks-Williams manifold. In this paper, our main goal is to classify expanding attractors on $N_0$ and non-transitive Anosov flows on $M_0$. We prove that, up to orbit-equivalence, the DA expanding attractor is the unique expanding attractor supported by $N_0$, and the non-transitive Anosov flow constructed by Franks and Williams is the unique non-transitive Anosov flow admitted by $M_0$. Moreover, more general cases are also discussed. In particular, we completely classify non-transitive Anosov flows on a family of infinitely many toroidal $3$-manifolds with two hyperbolic pieces, obtained by gluing two copies of $N_0$ through any gluing homeomorphism.

Partially volume expanding diffeomorphisms

We call a partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism \emph{partially volume expanding} if the Jacobian restricted to any hyperplane that contains the unstable bundle $E^u$ is larger than $1$. This is a $C^1$ open property. We show that any $C^{1+}$ partially volume expanding diffeomorphisms admits finitely many physical measures, the union of whose basins has full volume.

Geometrical and measure-theoretic structures of maps with mostly expanding center

In this paper we study physical measures for $\C^{1+α}$ partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with mostly expanding center. We show that every diffeomorphism with mostly expanding center direction exhibits a geometrical-combinatorial structure, which we call skeleton, that determines the number, basins and supports of the physical measures. Furthermore, the skeleton allows us to describe how physical measures bifurcate as the diffeomorphism changes under $C^1$ topology. Moreover, for each diffeomorphism with mostly expanding center, there exists a $C^1$ neighborhood, such that diffeomorphism among a $C^1$ residual subset of this neighborhood admits finitely many physical measures, whose basins have full volume. We also show that the physical measures for diffeomorphisms with mostly expanding center satisfy exponentially decay of correlation for any Hölder observes.

Maximal entropy measures of diffeomorphisms of circle fiber bundles

We characterize the maximal entropy measures of partially hyperbolic C^2 diffeomorphisms whose center foliations form circle bundles, by means of suitable finite sets of saddle points, that we call skeletons. In the special case of 3-dimensional nilmanifolds other than the torus, this entails the following dichotomy: either the diffeomorphism is a rotation extension of an Anosov diffeomorphism -- in which case there is a unique maximal measure, with full support and zero center Lyapunov exponents -- or there exist exactly two ergodic maximal measures, both hyperbolic and whose center Lyapunov exponents have opposite signs. Moreover, the set of maximal measures varies continuously with the diffeomorphism.

A countable partition for singular flows, and its application on the entropy theory

In this paper, we construct a countable partition $\mathscr{A}$ for flows with hyperbolic singularities by introducing a new cross section at each singularity. Such partition forms a Kakutani tower in a neighborhood of the singularity, and turns out to have finite metric entropy for every invariant probability measure. Moreover, each element of $\mathscr{A}^\infty$ will stay in a scaled tubular neighborhood for arbitrarily long time. This new construction enables us to study entropy theory for singular flows away from homoclinic tangencies, and show that the entropy function is upper semi-continuous with respect to both invariant measures and the flows.

Lyapunov exponents and rigidity of Anosov automorphisms and skew products

In this paper we obtain local rigidity results for linear Anosov diffeomorphisms in terms of Lyapunov exponents. More specifically, we show that given an irreducible linear hyperbolic automorphism $L$ with simple real eigenvalues with distinct absolute values, any small perturbation preserving the volume and with the same Lyapunov exponents is smoothly conjugate to $L$. We also obtain rigidity results for skew products over Anosov diffeomorphisms. Given a volume preserving partially hyperbolic skew product diffeomorphism $f_0$ over an Anosov automorphism of the 2-torus, we show that for any volume preserving perturbation $f$ of $f_0$ with the same average stable and unstable Lyapunov exponents, the center foliation is smooth.

Entropy rigidity for three dimensional volume preserving Anosov flows

The original proof has a gap, and need extra hypothesis that the strong stable and strong unstable filiation both to be $C^1$. The argument is like the following: with the regularity, one can show that the weak-stable and weak-unstable foliation both to be $C^{1+Lip}$, and then following the same argument as in the paper one can conclude the proof. But this extra hypothesis seems implying that the flow has a contact structure. Then it will be only a result which improves the Foulon's proof on contract structure for $C^\infty$ regularity to $C^2$, not so interest.

Entropy along expanding foliations

The (measure-theoretical) entropy of a diffeomorphism along an expanding invariant foliation is the rate of complexity generated by the diffeomorphism along the leaves of the foliation. We prove that this number varies upper semi-continuously with the diffeomorphism ($\C^1$ topology), the invariant measure (weak* topology) and the foliation itself in a suitable sense. This has several important consequences. For one thing, it implies that the set of Gibbs $u$-states of $\C^{1+}$ partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms is an upper semi-continuous function of the map in the $\C^1$ topology. Another consequence is that the sets of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with mostly contracting or mostly expanding center are $\C^1$ open. New examples of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with mostly expanding center are provided, and the existence of physical measures for $C^1$ residual subset of diffeomorphisms are discussed. We also provide a new class of robustly transitive diffeomorphisms: every $C^2$ volume preserving, accessible partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism with one dimensional center and non-vanishing center exponent is $C^1$ robustly transitive (among neighborhood of diffeomorphisms which are not necessarily volume preserving).

New criterion of physical measures for partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms

We show that for any $C^1$ partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism, there is a full volume subset, such that any Cesaro limit of any point in this subset satisfies the Pesin formula for partial entropy. This result has several important applications. First we show that for any $C^{1+}$ partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism with one dimensional center, there is a full volume subset, such that every point in this set belongs to either the basin of a physical measure with non-vanishing center exponent, or the center exponent of any limit of the sequence $\frac1n\sum_{i=0}^{n-1}δ_{f^i(x)}$ is vanishing. We also prove that for any diffeomorphism with mostly contracting center, it admits a $C^1$ neighborhood such that every diffeomorphism in a $C^1$ residual subset of this open set admits finitely many physical measure, whose basins have full volume.

$C^1$-openness of non-uniform hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with bounded $C^2$ norm

We study the $C^1$-topological properties of the subset of non-uniform hyperbolic diffeomorphisms in a certain class of $C^2$ partially hyperbolic symplectic systems which have bounded $C^2$ distance to the identity. In this set, we prove the stability of non-uniform hyperbolicity as a function of the diffeomorphism and the measure, and the existence of an open and dense subset of continuity points for the center Lyapunov exponents. These results are generalized to the volume-preserving context.

Entropy of partially hyperbolic flows with center dimension two

In this article we study the regularity of the topological and metric entropy of partially hyperbolic flows with two-dimensional center direction. We show that the topological entropy is upper semicontinuous with respect to the flow, and we give an example where the lower semicontinuity fails. We also show that if such a flow has no fixed points, then it is entropy expansive, and consequently the metric entropy function is upper semicontinuous, there exist equilibrium states (and measures of maximal entropy), and principal symbolic extensions.

Physical measures for the geodesic flow tangent to a transversally conformal foliation

We consider a transversally conformal foliation $\mathcal{F}$ of a closed manifold $M$ endowed with a smooth Riemannian metric whose restriction to each leaf is negatively curved. We prove that it satisfies the following dichotomy. Either there is a transverse holonomy-invariant measure for $\mathcal{F}$, or the foliated geodesic flow admits a finite number of physical measures, which have negative transverse Lyapunov exponents and whose basin cover a set full for the Lebesgue measure. We also give necessary and sufficient conditions for the foliated geodesic flow to be partially hyperbolic in the case where the foliation is transverse to a projective circle bundle over a closed hyperbolic surface.

Lyapunov exponents of partially hyperbolic volume-preserving maps with 2-dimensional center bundle

We consider the set of partially hyperbolic symplectic diffeomorphisms which are accessible, have 2-dimensional center bundle and satisfy some pinching and bunching conditions. In this set, we prove that the non-uniformly hyperbolic maps are $C^r$ open and there exists a $C^r$ open and dense subset of continuity points for the center Lyapunov exponents. We also generalize these results to volume-preserving systems.

Decay of correlations for maximal measure of maps derived from Anosov

It was proven by Ures that $C^1$ diffeomorphism on three dimensional torus that is derived from Anosov admits a unique maximal measure. Here we show that the maximal measure has exponential decay of correlations for Hölder observables, assuming the middle eigenvalue of the linear Anosov model is contracting.

Invariance principle and rigidity of high entropy measures

A deep analysis of the Lyapunov exponents, for stationary sequence of matrices going back to Furstenberg, for more general linear cocycles by Ledrappier and generalized to the context of non-linear cocycles by Avila and Viana, gives an invariance principle for invariant measures with vanishing central exponents. In this paper, we give a new criterium formulated in terms of entropy for the invariance principle and in particular, obtain a simpler proof for some of the known invariance principle results. As a byproduct, we study ergodic measures of partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms whose center foliation is 1-dimensional and forms a circle bundle. We show that for any such C2 diffeomorphism which is accessible, weak hyperbolicity of ergodic measures of high entropy implies that the system itself is of rotation type.
