Pl\"ucker Coordinates and the Rosenfeld Planes

The exceptional compact hermitian symmetric space EIII is the quotient $E_6/Spin(10)\times_{\mathbb{Z}_4}U(1)$. We introduce the Pl\"ucker coordinates which give an embedding of EIII into $\mathbb{C}P^{26}$ as a projective subvariety. The subvariety is cut out by 27 Pl\"ucker relations. We show that, using Clifford algebra, one can solve this over-determined system of relations, giving local coordinate charts to the space. Our motivation is to understand EIII as the complex projective octonion plane $(\mathbb{C}\otimes\mathbb{O})P^2$, whose construction is somewhat scattered across the literature. We will see that the EIII has an atlas whose transition functions have clear octonion interpretations, apart from those covering a sub-variety $X_{\infty}$ of dimension 10. This subvariety is itself a hermitian symmetric space known as DIII, with no apparent octonion interpretation. We give detailed analysis of the geometry in the neighbourhood of $X_{\infty}$. We further decompose $X={\rm EIII}$ into $F_4$-orbits: $X=Y_0\cup Y_{\infty}$, where $Y_0\sim(\mathbb{O}P^2)_{\mathbb{C}}$ is an open $F_4$-orbit and is the complexification of $\mathbb{O}P^2$, whereas $Y_{\infty}$ has co-dimension 1, thus EIII could be more appropriately denoted as $\overline{(\mathbb{O}P^2)_{\mathbb{C}}}$. This decomposition appears in the classification of equivariant completion of homogeneous algebraic varieties by Ahiezer \cite{Ahiezer}.

Quantisation via Branes and Minimal Resolution

The `brane quantisation' is a quantisation procedure developed by Gukov and Witten \cite{Gukov:2008ve}. We implement this idea by combining it with the tilting theory and the minimal resolutions. This way, we can realistically compute the deformation quantisation on the space of observables acting on the Hilbert space. We apply this procedure to certain quantisation problems in the context of generalised K\"ahler structure on $\mathbb{P}^2$. Our approach differs from and complements that of Bischoff and Gualtieri \cite{Bischoff:2021ixy}. We also benefitted from an important technical tool: a combinatorial criterion for the Maurer-Cartan equation, developed in \cite{BarmeierWang} by Barmeier and Wang.

Carbon Monitor-Power: near-real-time monitoring of global power generation on hourly to daily scales

We constructed a frequently updated, near-real-time global power generation dataset: Carbon Monitor-Power since January, 2016 at national levels with near-global coverage and hourly-to-daily time resolution. The data presented here are collected from 37 countries across all continents for eight source groups, including three types of fossil sources (coal, gas, and oil), nuclear energy and four groups of renewable energy sources (solar energy, wind energy, hydro energy and other renewables including biomass, geothermal, etc.). The global near-real-time power dataset shows the dynamics of the global power system, including its hourly, daily, weekly and seasonal patterns as influenced by daily periodical activities, weekends, seasonal cycles, regular and irregular events (i.e., holidays) and extreme events (i.e., the COVID-19 pandemic). The Carbon Monitor-Power dataset reveals that the COVID-19 pandemic caused strong disruptions in some countries (i.e., China and India), leading to a temporary or long-lasting shift to low carbon intensity, while it had only little impact in some other countries (i.e., Australia). This dataset offers a large range of opportunities for power-related scientific research and policy-making.

Nijenhuis tensor and invariant polynomials

We discuss the diagonalization problem of the Nijenhuis tensor in a class of Poisson-Nijenhuis structures defined on compact hermitian symmetric spaces. We study its action on the ring of invariant polynomials of a Thimm chain of subalgebras. The existence of $ϕ$-minimal representations defines a suitable basis of invariant polynomials that completely solves the diagonalization problem. We prove that such representations exist in the classical cases AIII, BDI, DIII and CI, and do not exist in the exceptional cases EIII and EVII. We discuss a second general construction that in these two cases computes partially the spectrum and hints at a different behavior with respect to the classical cases.

Leveraging Table Content for Zero-shot Text-to-SQL with Meta-Learning

Single-table text-to-SQL aims to transform a natural language question into a SQL query according to one single table. Recent work has made promising progress on this task by pre-trained language models and a multi-submodule framework. However, zero-shot table, that is, the invisible table in the training set, is currently the most critical bottleneck restricting the application of existing approaches to real-world scenarios. Although some work has utilized auxiliary tasks to help handle zero-shot tables, expensive extra manual annotation limits their practicality. In this paper, we propose a new approach for the zero-shot text-to-SQL task which does not rely on any additional manual annotations. Our approach consists of two parts. First, we propose a new model that leverages the abundant information of table content to help establish the mapping between questions and zero-shot tables. Further, we propose a simple but efficient meta-learning strategy to train our model. The strategy utilizes the two-step gradient update to force the model to learn a generalization ability towards zero-shot tables. We conduct extensive experiments on a public open-domain text-to-SQL dataset WikiSQL and a domain-specific dataset ESQL. Compared to existing approaches using the same pre-trained model, our approach achieves significant improvements on both datasets. Compared to the larger pre-trained model and the tabular-specific pre-trained model, our approach is still competitive. More importantly, on the zero-shot subsets of both the datasets, our approach further increases the improvements.

Rozansky-Witten theory, Localised then Tilted

The paper has two parts, in the first part, we apply the localisation technique to the Rozansky-Witten theory on compact HyperKähler targets. We do so via first reformulating the theory as some supersymmetric sigma-model. We obtain the exact formula for the partition function with Wilson loops on $S^1\timesΣ_g$ and the lens spaces, the results match with earlier computations using Feynman diagrams on K3. The second part is motivated by a very curious preprint \cite{Gukov:2020lqm}, where the equivariant index formula for the dimension of the Hilbert space the theory is interpreted as a kind of Verlinde formula. In this interpretation, the fixed points of the target HyperKähler geometry correspond to certain 'states'. In the second half of the paper we extend the formalism of part one to incorporate equivariance on the target geometry. For certain non-compact hyperKähler geometry, we can apply the tilting theory to the derived category of coherent sheaves, whose objects label the Wilson loops, allowing us to pick a 'basis' for the latter. We can then compute the fusion products in this basis and we show that the objects that have diagonal fusion rules are intimately related to the fixed points of the geometry. Using these objects as basis to compute the dimension of the Hilbert space leads back to the Verlinde formula, thus answering the question that motivated the paper.

Transversally Elliptic Complex and Cohomological Field Theory

This work is a continuation of our previous paper arXiv:1812.06473 where we have constructed ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on 4D manifolds with a Killing vector field with isolated fixed points. In this work we expand on the mathematical aspects of the theory, with a particular focus on its nature as a cohomological field theory. The well-known Donaldson-Witten theory is a twisted version of ${\cal N}=2$ SYM and can also be constructed using the Atiyah-Jeffrey construction. This theory is concerned with the moduli space of anti-self-dual gauge connections, with a deformation theory controlled by an elliptic complex. More generally, supersymmetry requires considering configurations that look like either instantons or anti-instantons around fixed points, which we call flipping instantons. The flipping instantons of our 4D ${\cal N}=2$ theory are derived from the 5D contact instantons. The novelty is that their deformation theory is controlled by a transversally elliptic complex, which we demonstrate here. We repeat the Atiyah-Jeffrey construction in the equivariant setting and arrive at the Lagrangian (an equivariant Euler class in the relevant field space) that was also obtained from our previous work arXiv:1812.06473. We show that the transversal ellipticity of the deformation complex is crucial for the non-degeneracy of the Lagrangian and the calculability of the theory. Our construction is valid on a large class of quasi toric 4 manifolds.

Equivariant Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism

We study an equivariant extension of the Batalin-Vilkovisky formalism for quantizing gauge theories. Namely, we introduce a general framework to encompass failures of the quantum master equation, and we apply it to the natural equivariant extension of AKSZ solutions of the classical master equation (CME). As examples of the construction, we recover the equivariant extension of supersymmetric Yang-Mills in 2d and of Donaldson-Witten theory.

Twisting with a Flip (the Art of Pestunization)

We construct ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on 4D manifolds with a Killing vector field with isolated fixed points. It turns out that for every fixed point one can allocate either instanton or anti-instanton contributions to the partition function, and that this is compatible with supersymmetry. The equivariant Donaldson-Witten theory is a special case of our construction. We present a unified treatment of Pestun's calculation on $S^4$ and equivariant Donaldson-Witten theory by generalizing the notion of self-duality on manifolds with a vector field. We conjecture the full partition function for a ${\cal N}=2$ theory on any 4D manifold with a Killing vector. Using this new notion of self-duality to localize a supersymmetric theory is what we call "Pestunization".

7D supersymmetric Yang-Mills on hypertoric 3-Sasakian manifolds

We study 7D maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on 3-Sasakian manifolds. For manifolds whose hyper-Kähler cones are hypertoric we derive the perturbative part of the partition function. The answer involves a special function that counts integer lattice points in a rational convex polyhedral cone determined by hypertoric data. This also gives a more geometric structure to previous enumeration results of holomorphic functions in the literature. Based on physics intuition, we provide a factorisation result for such functions. The full proof of this factorisation using index calculations will be detailed in a forthcoming paper.

Generalised Kähler Structure on $\mathbb{C}P^2$ and Elliptic Functions

We construct a toric generalised Kähler structure on $\mathbb{C}P^2$ and show that the various structures such as the complex structure, metric etc are expressed in terms of certain elliptic functions. We also compute the generalised Kähler potential in terms of integrals of elliptic functions.

Observing zero-field spin dynamics with spin noise in a pi-pulse modulated field

Spin noise spectroscopic study of spin dynamics in a zero magnetic field is commonly frustrated by the dominating 1/f noise. We show that in a pi-pulse modulated magnetic field, spin noise spectrum centered one-half of the field modulation frequency reveals spin dynamics in zero-fields, free of any low-frequency noises.

N=2 supersymmetric gauge theory on connected sums of $S^2\times S^2$

We construct 4D $\mathcal{N}=2$ theories on an infinite family of 4D toric manifolds with the topology of connected sums of $S^2 \times S^2$. These theories are constructed through the dimensional reduction along a non-trivial $U(1)$-fiber of 5D theories on toric Sasaki-Einstein manifolds. We discuss the conditions under which such reductions can be carried out and give a partial classification result of the resulting 4D manifolds. We calculate the partition functions of these 4D theories and they involve both instanton and anti-instanton contributions, thus generalizing Pestun's famous result on $S^4$.

Review of localization for 5d supersymmetric gauge theories

We give a pedagogical review of the localization of supersymmetric gauge theory on 5d toric Sasaki-Einstein manifolds. We construct the cohomological complex resulting from supersymmetry and consider its natural toric deformations with all equivariant parameters turned on. We also give detailed discussion on how the Sasaki-Einstein geometry permeates every aspect of the calculation, from Killing spinor, vanishing theorems to the index theorems.

Modular properties of full 5D SYM partition function

We study properties of the full partition function for the $U(1)$ 5D $\mathcal{N}=2^*$ gauge theory with adjoint hypermultiplet of mass $M$. This theory is ultimately related to abelian 6D (2,0) theory. We construct the full non-perturbative partition function on toric Sasaki-Einstein manifolds by gluing flat copies of the Nekrasov partition function and we express the full partition function in terms of the generalized double elliptic gamma function $G_2^C$ associated with a certain moment map cone $C$. The answer exhibits a curious $SL(4,\mathbb{Z})$ modular property. Finally, we propose a set of rules to construct the partition function that resembles the calculation of 5D supersymmetric partition function with the insertion of defects of various co-dimensions.

Knot Weight Systems from Graded Symplectic Geometry

We show that from an even degree symplectic NQ-manifold, whose homological vector field Q preserves the symplectic form, one can construct a weight system for tri-valent graphs with values in the Q-cohomology ring, satisfying the IHX relation. Likewise, given a representation of the homological vector field, one can construct a weight system for the chord diagrams, satisfying the IHX and STU relations. Moreover we show that the use of the 'Gronthendieck connection' in the construction is essential in making the weight system dependent only on the choice of the NQ-manifold and its representation.

On twisted N=2 5D super Yang-Mills theory

On a five dimensional simply connected Sasaki-Einstein manifold, one can construct Yang-Mills theories coupled to matter with at least two supersymmetries. The partition function of these theories localises on the contact instantons, however the contact instanton equations are not elliptic. It turns out that these equations can be embedded into the Haydys-Witten equations (which are elliptic) in the same way the 4D anti-self-dual instanton equations are embedded in the Vafa-Witten equations. We show that under some favourable circumstances, the latter equations will reduce to the former by proving some vanishing theorems. It was also known that the Haydys-Witten equations on product manifolds $M_5=M_4\times \mathbb{R}$ arise in the context of twisting the 5D maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. In this paper, we present the construction of twisted $N=2$ Yang-Mills theory on Sasaki-Einstein manifolds, and more generally on $K$-contact manifolds. The localisation locus of this new theory thus provides a covariant version of the Haydys-Witten equation.
