Complete integrability from Poisson-Nijenhuis structures on compact hermitian symmetric spaces

We study a class of Poisson-Nijenhuis systems defined on compact hermitian symmetric spaces, where the Nijenhuis tensor is defined as the composition of Kirillov-Konstant-Souriau symplectic form with the so called Bruhat-Poisson structure. We determine its spectrum. In the case of Grassmannians the eigenvalues are the Gelfand-Tsetlin variables. We introduce the abelian algebra of collective hamiltonians defined by a chain of nested subalgebras and prove complete integrability. By construction, these models are integrable with respect to both Poisson structures. The eigenvalues of the Nijenhuis tensor are a choice of action variables. Our proof relies on an explicit formula for the contravariant connection defined on vector bundles that are Poisson with respect to the Bruhat-Poisson structure.

5D Super Yang-Mills on $Y^{p,q}$ Sasaki-Einstein manifolds

On any simply connected Sasaki-Einstein five dimensional manifold one can construct a super Yang-Mills theory which preserves at least two supersymmetries. We study the special case of toric Sasaki-Einstein manifolds known as $Y^{p,q}$ manifolds. We use the localisation technique to compute the full perturbative part of the partition function. The full equivariant result is expressed in terms of certain special function which appears to be a curious generalisation of the triple sine function. As an application of our general result we study the large $N$ behaviour for the case of single hypermultiplet in adjoint representation and we derive the $N^3$-behaviour in this case.

Gluing Nekrasov partition functions

In this paper we summarise the localisation calculation of 5D super Yang-Mills on simply connected toric Sasaki-Einstein (SE) manifolds. We show how various aspects of the computation, including the equivariant index, the asymptotic behaviour and the factorisation property are governed by the combinatorial data of the toric geometry. We prove that the full perturbative partition function on a simply connected SE manifold corresponding to an n-gon toric diagram factorises to n copies of perturbative Nekrasov partition function. This leads us to conjecture the full partition function as gluing n copies of full Nekrasov partition function. This work is a generalisation of some earlier computation carried out on $Y^{p,q}$ manifolds, whose moment map cone has a quadrangle and our result is valid for manifolds whose moment map cones have pentagon base, hexagon base, etc. The algorithm we used for dealing with general cones may also be of independent interest.

Factorization of 5D super Yang-Mills on $Y^{p,q}$ spaces

We continue our study on the partition function for 5D supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on toric Sasaki-Einstein $Y^{p,q}$ manifolds. Previously, using the localisation technique we have computed the perturbative part of the partition function. In this work we show how the perturbative part factorises into four pieces, each corresponding to the perturbative answer of the same theory on $\mathbb{R}^4 \times S^1$. This allows us to identify the equivariant parameters and to conjecture the full partition functions (including the instanton contributions) for $Y^{p,q}$ spaces. The conjectured partition function receives contributions only from singular contact instantons supported along the closed Reeb orbits. At the moment we are not able to prove this fact from the first principles.

On the infinity category of homotopy Leibniz algebras

We discuss various concepts of $\infty$-homotopies, as well as the relations between them (focussing on the Leibniz type). In particular $\infty$-$n$-homotopies appear as the $n$-simplices of the nerve of a complete Lie ${\infty}$-algebra. In the nilpotent case, this nerve is known to be a Kan complex \cite{Get09}. We argue that there is a quasi-category of $\infty$-algebras and show that for truncated $\infty$-algebras, i.e. categorified algebras, this $\infty$-categorical structure projects to a strict 2-categorical one. The paper contains a shortcut to $(\infty,1)$-categories, as well as a review of Getzler's proof of the Kan property. We make the latter concrete by applying it to the 2-term $\infty$-algebra case, thus recovering the concept of homotopy of \cite{BC04}, as well as the corresponding composition rule \cite{SS07}. We also answer a question of \cite{BS07} about composition of $\infty$-homotopies of $\infty$-algebras.

The perturbative partition function of supersymmetric 5D Yang-Mills theory with matter on the five-sphere

Based on the construction by Hosomichi, Seong and Terashima we consider N=1 supersymmetric 5D Yang-Mills theory with matter on a five-sphere with radius r. This theory can be thought of as a deformation of the theory in flat space with deformation parameter r and this deformation preserves 8 supercharges. We calculate the full perturbative partition function as a function of r/g^2, where g is the Yang-Mills coupling, and the answer is given in terms of a matrix model. We perform the calculation using localization techniques. We also argue that in the large N-limit of this deformed 5D Yang-Mills theory this matrix model provides the leading contribution to the partition function and the rest is exponentially suppressed.

Lecture Notes on Topological Field Theory

These notes are based on the lecture the author gave at the workshop 'Geometry of Strings and Fields' held at Nordita, Stockholm. In these notes, I shall cover some topics in both the perturbative and non-perturbative aspects of the topological Chern-Simons theory. The non-perturbative part will mostly be about the quantization of Chern-Simons theory and the use of surgery for computation, while the non-perturbative part will include brief discussions about framings, eta invariants, APS-index theorem, torsions and finite type knot invariants.

Introduction to Graded Geometry, Batalin-Vilkovisky Formalism and their Applications

These notes are intended to provide a self-contained introduction to the basic ideas of finite dimensional Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) formalism and its applications. A brief exposition of super- and graded geometries is also given. The BV-formalism is introduced through an odd Fourier transform and the algebraic aspects of integration theory are stressed. As a main application we consider the perturbation theory for certain finite dimensional integrals within BV-formalism. As an illustration we present a proof of the isomorphism between the graph complex and the Chevalley-Eilenberg complex of formal Hamiltonian vectors fields. We briefly discuss how these ideas can be extended to the infinite dimensional setting. These notes should be accessible to both physicists and mathematicians.

Wilson Lines from Representations of NQ-Manifolds

An NQ-manifold is a non-negatively graded supermanifold with a degree 1 homological vector field. The focus of this paper is to define the Wilson loops/lines in the context of NQ-manifolds and to study their properties. The Wilson loops/lines, which give the holonomy or parallel transport, are familiar objects in usual differential geometry, we analyze the subtleties in the generalization to the NQ-setting and we also sketch some possible applications of our construction.

Knot Invariants and New Weight Systems from General 3D TFTs

We introduce and study the Wilson loops in a general 3D topological field theories (TFTs), and show that the expectation value of Wilson loops also gives knot invariants as in Chern-Simons theory. We study the TFTs within the Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) and Alexandrov-Kontsevich-Schwarz-Zaboronsky (AKSZ) framework, and the Ward identities of these theories imply that the expectation value of the Wilson loop is a pairing of two dual constructions of (co)cycles of certain extended graph complex (extended from Kontsevich's graph complex to accommodate the Wilson loop). We also prove that there is an isomorphism between the same complex and certain extended Chevalley-Eilenberg complex of Hamiltonian vector fields. This isomorphism allows us to generalize the Lie algebra weight system for knots to weight systems associated with any homological vector field and its representations. As an example we construct knot invariants using holomorphic vector bundle over hyperKahler manifolds.

Equivariant Rozansky-Witten classes and TFTs

We first construct the Rozansky-Witten model coupled to BF theory and Chern-Simons theory using the Alexandrov-Kontsevich-Schwarz-Zaboronsky (AKSZ) method. Then we apply the machinery developed in some earlier papers about AKSZ theories and characteristic classes to these concrete models: the BF-Rozansky-Witten model and the Chern-Simons-Rozansky-Witten model. In the former case, we obtain characteristic classes on the target hyperKahler manifold equipped with a group action as a generalization of the original Rozansky-Witten classes. We also give the prescription for similar classes associated with a holomorphic symplectic manifold and demonstrate the invariance of such classes explicitly.

Odd Chern-Simons Theory, Lie Algebra Cohomology and Characteristic Classes

We investigate the generic 3D topological field theory within AKSZ-BV framework. We use the Batalin-Vilkovisky (BV) formalism to construct explicitly cocycles of the Lie algebra of formal Hamiltonian vector fields and we argue that the perturbative partition function gives rise to secondary characteristic classes. We investigate a toy model which is an odd analogue of Chern-Simons theory, and we give some explicit computation of two point functions and show that its perturbation theory is identical to the Chern-Simons theory. We give concrete example of the homomorphism taking Lie algebra cocycles to Q-characteristic classes, and we reinterpreted the Rozansky-Witten model in this light.

2D and 3D topological field theories for generalized complex geometry

Using the AKSZ prescription we construct 2D and 3D topological field theories associated to generalized complex manifolds. These models can be thought of as 2D and 3D generalizations of A- and B-models. Within the BV framework we show that the 3D model on a two-manifold cross an interval can be reduced to the 2D model.

On the AKSZ formulation of the Rozansky-Witten theory and beyond

Using the AKSZ formalism, we construct the Batalin-Vilkovisky master action for the Rozansky-Witten model, which can be defined for any complex manifold with a closed (2,0)-form. We also construct the holomorphic version of Rozansky-Witten theory defined over Calabi-Yau 3-fold.

Dimensional Regularization and Dimensional Reduction in the Light Cone

We calculate all the 2 to 2 scattering process in Yang-Mills theory in the Light Cone gauge, with the dimensional regulator as the UV regulator. The IR is regulated with a cutoff in $q^+$. It supplements our earlier work, where a Lorentz non-covariant regulator was used and the final results bear some problems in gauge fixing. Supersymmetry relations among various amplitudes are checked using the light cone superfields.

Metric learning pairwise kernel for graph inference

Much recent work in bioinformatics has focused on the inference of various types of biological networks, representing gene regulation, metabolic processes, protein-protein interactions, etc. A common setting involves inferring network edges in a supervised fashion from a set of high-confidence edges, possibly characterized by multiple, heterogeneous data sets (protein sequence, gene expression, etc.). Here, we distinguish between two modes of inference in this setting: direct inference based upon similarities between nodes joined by an edge, and indirect inference based upon similarities between one pair of nodes and another pair of nodes. We propose a supervised approach for the direct case by translating it into a distance metric learning problem. A relaxation of the resulting convex optimization problem leads to the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm with a particular kernel for pairs, which we call the metric learning pairwise kernel (MLPK). We demonstrate, using several real biological networks, that this direct approach often improves upon the state-of-the-art SVM for indirect inference with the tensor product pairwise kernel.
